Slow Burn is always a favorite AO of mine because it is a Friday, consistently well attended and mostly moderate. With this being the 3rd Q in 3 days, I had decided earlier in the week I would go without weinkes for the boot camp workouts. Having a plan in mind and being able to adjust on the fly if necessary. As we were standing in the parking lot, cars kept streaming in and this was going to be a larger crowd than usual for me on Q, 34 Pax. Plan B started rolling on the fly…be louder than normal, keep everyone engaged (always a lot of mumble chatter at slow burn) and how do I keep everyone together. With 1 FNG in the crowd a better disclaimer was given and off to a short mosey to the parking lot in front of Empire Pizza. Warm up of SSH, hillbilly walker, windmill, Peter Parker, plank jax, merkins.
Mosey to railing behind Lowe’s. Drill was 2 exercises for a total of 12 count. 11 dips lung walk across lot and 1 merkin. Mosey back and 10/2 until 1 dip and 11 merkins. Mosey to side of Lowes with wall sits and bomb jacks for 2 rounds. With the number of pax still in mind I decided to mosey to parking lot at the end of Baxter Playhouse and do 4 corners. One exercise each corner with 2 rounds each exercise. 1st round 20 count, 2nd 30 count. Pax split up and picked a corner.
2 rotations each exercise after 2nd round change exercise with 2 more rounds
- Squats
- lunges
- calf raises
- monkey humpers
2nd Group of exercises
- MNC
- dips
- merkins (10/15 count)
- overhead clap
With 1 minute remaining mosey with all you got back to COT.
The word of the month is Faith and I challenged the Pax on what are they placing their faith in. We all have Faith in something…job, money, family, material possessions and/or Heavenly Father. Are you placing your faith in something that is everlasting or something that can easily be taken away? With the tragic news of Cheech losing his life, we discussed how easily life can change in a blink. We have our Heavenly Father to turn to and the strong relationships we have formed to turn to in times of need. We all take for granted our health, life and relationships and we can see that we need to be intentional in life to make time spent with family, friends, serving others and God count. As Dabo would say, Be All In!!! Be present with friends, family, associates and make your time here on earth count. Most of us had never met Cheech, but we know the man he is through the relationships he built and lives he touched. He is a great example for us and this unfortunate event is a wake up call to me to not take opportunities to serve or time spent with family and friends for granted, we don’t know when life can change.
COT – announcements of convergence and July 4th convergence were discussed. Prayers were lifted for family, marriages, healing, Cheech’s family and the driver in the accident.
Thanks to Barry Manilow for the opportunity to lead.
