UPDATEs for 11-20-2016

1. We will start collecting toys and gift cards on Saturday December 10th. If you can’t make it to the Christmas party then either give to the Q/Site Q/or someone attending the Christmas Party from 12-10 to 12/17.

2. Chicken Hawk has an anonymous donor that will match gift card donations up to $1500. See item 3 in the original pre-blast for what kind of gift cards are needed.

As many of you know, our good friend Olive lost his precious 8 year old daughter Christina (2.0 name Sweet Tooth) this past May. To honor her memory, Olive created a charity named Operation Sweet Tooth. You can read more about it here:

http://f3nation.com/2016/10/09/operation-sweet-tooth-update-october-9th-2016/

So what does that mean for us as part of F3 – The Fort and F3 – The Rock?

1. In Support of Operation Sweet Tooth, we will be collecting items for both the Childrens Attention Home and Levines Childrens Hospital.

2. We will be partnering with FIA to collect items through the F3 Christmas Party on December 17th. All gifts will be donated between then and Christmas.

3. Suggested Donations for Childrens Attention Home include: action figures, baby dolls, art kits. board games, and gift cards to box stores and restaurants (for the older kids).

4. List of Donations for Levines is here: https://www.carolinashealthcare.org/documents/lch/donation-wish-list.pdf

5. If you can’t make the Christmas Party then we will find a way to get your donation. More info to come on this later.

6. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me or Stang, Big Papi, or Italian Job.

7. Olive has the Q at The Fort (WEP) this Saturday November 12th. Hopefully he will have some time to share with us his message. Lets give him the support he needs.

Time to be a #HIM

“You Lake Wylie boys can stay there!” – Joe Dirt

Tuesday morning was day #2 in a row on Q. Doesn’t it always seem to work out that way? I can go months without Qing and really get the itch to lead, and then have 3 in one week! Either way, it’s always an honor to be out there with men of F3. I arrived at Trinity in York about 7 minutes before launch, and was happy to see how many PAX were already there. Some familiar faces, but I was informed we had a few FNGs and some guys that haven’t been able to post for a while. By the time we were ready to roll, 19 men were there. With FNGs I gave the long disclaimer. And we were off.

Mosey for a quarter mile, ended up in the grass over by the Hotbox
COP
25 SSHs – 20 IWs – 10 Windmills – 10 Merkins – 20 Plank Jacks – 20 LS Squats – 25 MNCs – 20 Mountain Climbers

Mosey to the parking area we call the Hotbox, I asked the PAX to remember where two signs were at the top of the hill so they know where to run to.

First Pain
Dora 1-2-3
Partner up – partner 1 does the exercise; partner 2 run up the hill to the signs and back down to partner 1. Cumulative reps.
100 Burpees
200 Carolina Dry Docks
300 Flutter Kicks

Sounds easy on paper, right? Man this one hurt. Guys were gassed, but the best line came from Joe Dirt, since Witch Hunt and I come down to York from Lake Wylie…”You Lake Wylie boys can stay up that way!” I loved it, tells me I’ve made the PAX work hard. I’m sure he loved it too…around noon…

For our 10 count, I shared a little piece around our new 3rd F theme of the month “Margin”. This one really hits home for me. When I read the theme document (read your newsletter!) I defined it to the PAX (thanks again theme docs).

I could think of 100 ways I am selfish and not using the margin of time left to me for glorifying God or spending it being a better father and husband. If you don’t think you are, ask your wife or significant other their opinion about you. I used the easy example of my football Sunday. Don’t ask me to do anything while the Packers are playing! But what’s truly more important, building memories with my family or seeing my team score a touchdown? OK OK, I’m not saying give up football… but my time surfing the web on my iPad or reading to my daughter? That I can change… be intentional with your time. Make it count! You have to ask yourself, “How can I consume LESS to give MORE?”

Back to Work, time to Mosey to the building Wall on Main Street
People’s Chair while 1 PAX bear crawls across to the other side. Keeping sitting until all PAX have bear crawled.
BTTW
People’s Chair with Overhead Press. Started with 25. recover. Sit with 50 presses. Recover. Sit with 75 presses. Recover

Halloween Fun @ Guns-n-Moses

  • QIC: Royale
  • When: 10/31/2016
  • Pax: Redwood, High Pockets, Dollywood, Drifter, Royale
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

5 PAX showed up bright and early (maybe not early High Pockets) for a fun Halloween themed workout. Full disclosure, I’m not original with themes, so I totally stole this from Witch Hunt and his Q at the Deep on Saturday. But it was too good to pass up.

The Thang

Quick jogging lap to COP
SSHs IWs Merkins CDDS – your get it – the usualy stuff to get warm!

The next 35 minutes we spent going “trick or treating”. It went like this:

Split into two groups. Dollywood and me – High Pockets, Drifter and Redwood the other
There were three Halloween buckets spread about 35 yards from the center bucket.

In the center we would pick or “Trick” or “Treat” as the mode of transportation to the other bucket 35 yards away.
Those modes consisted of:
Crab Walk
Jog 2x
Lunge Walk 2x
Inch Worm
Karaoke
Broad jump
Bear Crawl 2x
“Frankenstein” Walk (aka Toy Soldiers)
Lt Danger’s!
Lt Dans
Side Shuffle

At one bucket was the number of reps we would complete of the unknown exercise. It ranged from 1 to 25 in intervals of 5. Several of the middle numbers repeated like 10 & 15.

The other bucket had the exercise which included:
Bombjacks
Hand release Merkins
Flutter Kicks
LBCs
Freddy Mercurys
Dragon Walk Merkins
SSHs
Diamond Merkins
Squat Jumps
CDDs
Partner Plank Derkins
a 10 count!
Burpees
Ranger Merkins

There were 14 rounds of this configuration. The only one I recall that everyone cheered for was 1 burpee. (I made up for that on Tuesday)

Great to see the York PAX again, it’s been too long since making the trip to the south of Lake Wylie!

Happy Halloween!

The next step in building Empathy

  • Posted In: Uncategorized

October 28th was about starting the conversation and Saturday, November 12th from 0600 – 0700 at Eternal Church is about rolling up our sleeves and stepping into the fire.  This is not a convergence. This is a call to the #HIM that left the convergence and have a desire to do something to influence change, the #HIM that has the passion and desire to step into the fight to figure out how to change the trajectory of this social issue that plagues our culture. If you can make it or even if you can’t and you have a perspective please share it with me and I will bring it to the conversation (brianbrenner09@gmail.com).

Pre-work for this session to think about before joining the discussion:

  • Define what we are trying to accomplish coming out of the convergence?

o   Build empathy through relationships?

o   Build relationships through invitation of more black men to F3?

o   How do we effectively invite?

  • Should we put a Q in charge of building a plan and driving our activities to reach within the community to attract people that don’t look like us?

o   What would this Qs objectives be?

  • How do we create more experiences for the men to grow in empathy toward the black community?
  • Do we need a new AO or do we already have AOs co-located to the black community that we invite them too?

o   Which part of the black community are we trying to connect to? Paradise or     middle/professional/ working middle class?

  • Define what obstacles we have in reaching the black community?

o   What are the opportunities for overcoming the obstacles?

  • How do we reach the black community to invite them into F3?

o   Military connection?

o   Churches?

o   Community events?

it’s Colombia not Columbia with CSPAN SEPT 2016

If you had asked me a year ago where I would be in September of 2016, I could have answered pretty confidently. I would have told you that I would be living in Fort Mill, SC with my wife Amy and youngest daughter Kip. I would have told you that I would be participating in my morning F3 workouts. I would have told you that I would be continuing to work as a DC manager at Kellogg’s. I would have described to you how most of my weeks or months look, not that I am predictable or that my life is mundane, yet I do seem to follow a schedule of sorts. I would not have anticipated that in September 2016, God would push me in ways that I had never imagined. It was not my plan to go to Colombia, South America on a mission trip but it was God’s plan so I went. When first approached about going on a short term mission trip, I did not immediately think it was for me. However, I quickly learned that God does not just call the equipped but He equips the called. After over a month of reflection, I feel ready to share with you all the details and learnings from my trip. I pray that this inspires at least one of you to try a short term mission trip for yourself.

To really understand my mission trip, we must unpack a few other items, and I must thank a few people who got me interested, and have encouraged me to get involved with a short term mission trip. My first thanks always goes to God, His hand guided me throughout this entire process. The second thank you is always to my M (Amy) who has been helping me figure things out for the last 29 wonderful years. My children have helped me understand a global perspective with their own mission and humanitarian work at home and abroad. I must acknowledge the men of F3 and Forest Hill Church in Fort Mill that have helped me understand a very simple motto of Know/Grow/Go for God. I must thank all of F3 because anyone who will talk to me knows for about the last 3.5 years my mission field is at 0515 each morning (except Sunday) and revolves around the men of F3. It has been fun work, and I have been recharged as a Christian man. I have so many F3 men I need to thank, but I am going to “call out” two specifically. Maximus who about 3 years ago meet with me to discuss a trip to Colombia, and I shut him down because my heart was just not ready. The other man is Funhouse who at a recent #F3Chicken&Wisdom spoke very frankly about how short term mission works, the good and the “real” detail that only men truly trying to be a #HIM (High Impact Man) understand that no nonsense style of communication. As you read the rest of this, we use a term in F3 called #BLUF (bottom line up front), and my #BLUF recommendation is to get involved in your Church, grow in your faith, and go grow God’s Kingdom. Here is how my story unfolded.

My team consisted of Matt (non-F3 & LifeGroup Director Forest Hill Church, Fort Mill, SC), Shane (non-F3 and a Navy Vet), my beautiful wife and I. The mission was simple- to teach the Church in Santa Marta, Colombia about LifeGroups/Small Groups. The details went so easy and I attribute that to Matt’s leadership and a group of people who truly believe that small groups will make a positive impact on most Christians lives. The idea that all people want to belong somewhere, and be able to call on friends in any situation, and that is where LifeGroups provide you with that Christian family.

God’s hand was obviously at work when the worries that would have kept Amy and I from fully focusing on our mission were easily sorted out. @F3ChuckWagon and Bailey (oldest daughter) volunteered to take care of Kip and Flea (The Dog). Matt built a great agenda with Jon Howard (who knows we are still “not there yet”, but still said he would try F3 #ABH) and Pastor Julio (who I never applied the F3 EH to) with a good mix of activities: speaking, service, fellowship, and even F3 in the mornings.

This trip is an answer to my daughter’s prayers. Kip (our youngest daughter, and not named after Napoleon Dynamite character) has prayed that Amy and I would find our way to Colombia for nearly two years now. The last two summers, Kip has had 2 very impactful trips to Colombia. She has seen God at work through short term mission work there. Kip has also developed the personal relationships that you only can build with repeated visits, and with the connection of today’s social media society. The Howard’s and Pinzon’s have stayed in constant contact with Kip over the last few years. Her heart has grown so big for Columbia that Amy and I could not resist the chance to check it out.

So let’s review our trip:

Day #1 Thursday= we left our house at 0350, meet up at Matt’s house and departed for the airport. Flights were easy and smooth- Charlotte to Miami and Miami to Barranquilla. The Howards, Rueben, and Eve met us at the airport. Rueben drove a shuttle van style taxi to get us to Santa Marta (about 2 hours in somewhat crazy traffic) lots of #mumblechatter along the way. This was first exposure to extreme poverty of Colombia. We arrived in Santa Marta which felt like a mix of Charleston and a city in transition with all the construction going on. I liked it, and we got introduced to everyone there. We attended a prayer meeting, and I shared my testimony and how Kip was correct in saying that “I need to see it” and we got to do a #BOM (Ball of Man) style prayer on #HIM (High Impact Man) Pastor Julio. The Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers, I love when the Broncos win, but hate it when @F3Skywalker misses a kick. This also gave me material to tease Jon about all week. GO BRONCOS!

Day #2 Friday= We had the opportunity to attend the Elders Meeting for The Church to align our goals for the workshop on Saturday. That evening we attended the Church’s Couples Fellowship Night at The Church and shared our testimony of LifeGroups and our personal experiences. It was a fun night and they grilled out meat and we had great fellowship, and Felipe (Pastor Julio’s 2nd oldest son) made a pact that he would be my translator for the remainder of the trip. Felipe made a huge impact this trip on The Team, but especially Amy and I. Felipe is a #HIM in the making, and has an amazing pastoral gift.

Day #3 Saturday= The day was focused on our LifeGroups workshop. Each person of our team did their part of the presentation to perfection. The Holy Spirit was at work through us. The training went very well and it was obvious that The Church was excited to get some small group activities started. Lunch was huge success with the workshop participants and Colombian’s eat huge portions for lunch and will eat hot soup even when it is extremely hot outside. What they describe as spicy is really not that hot. Our Team really supported each other throughout the presentations and we were exhausted when the night closed out.

Day#4 Sunday= Matt preached Sunday morning and did a wonderful job. He took The Great Commission and combined it with his love of LifeGroups and did a nice outline of next steps for the Church. We spent the evening doing 2 house visits. Our first stop, Pablo’s house is a perfect location for a LifeGroup and his wife has the gift of hospitality. She saw that we brought a car full of people and put together some delicious pizza. The second house was Eddie and his wife who are already doing evangelism out of their house, but have become exhausted supporting their community and will need a LifeGroup to share the burdens of supporting an area in need.

Day #5 Monday= Amy got to share her testimony with the Ladies Group of the Church. She did great and it has awesome to see my wife gain confidence in her public speaking, sharing her faith, and having fellowship with a group of woman who share the same struggles as women in the US. The ladies all wanted me to know how well she did, and how they appreciated her speaking at their meeting. Matt, Shane, Felipe, and I did a walking tour of Santa Marta. The highlight for me was twofold. The first being it rained in buckets (crazy amount of rain)… and as a coastal city the streets and sidewalks were just a rushing river to the ocean. The second was we got to attend the free “English as a Second Language Classes” (ESL) and play games and just had a great time (see video of me dancing on Facebook). It was great to see the classes sing Christian songs to learn English, and I made them all laugh with “hello, my name is David” jokes. I still have zero Spanish speaking skills, but people could figure out what I meant (I think?).

Day #6 Tuesday= This was our schedule “light” day. We spent the morning touring the city. The afternoon at The University Ministry called “Impacto”. The student ministry is just starting up, and my team enjoyed the fellowship and encouragement when we broke out into small groups. Our Team is going to try and help support this ministry with a small gift from our unused funds. Just like a university in the US, so many chances to serve young people while they are first away from their parents. Odd how when the students shared their testimonies they sounded just like US college students. Felipe, Pastor Julio, and I watched my beloved Celtic Team (yes, That Glasgow Soccer Team) play horrible against a very skilled Barcelona Squad…it was bad, so my only response is GO BRONCOS!

Day #7 Wednesday= Travel home and it did feel so good to be back

NM Moleskine:
• So I have to be clear, I personally never felt prepared to do this type of short term mission work, but like Kip told me “you have to see it for yourself” and now I feel that way about everyone who has any desire to go global. The first trip is always going to be the “scariest” but I encourage you to pray for The Lord to lead you where you are needed.
• Matt reminded Amy and I, that God “does not call the equipped, but equips the called” and now we can reference our trip as proof. While Amy and I both felt unworthy, we both felt very prepared to share our testimony, and how LifeGroups had made an impact on our lives.
• I was not prepared for public speaking and using a translator. The Lord knows my weakness and my desire to use more words when I get excited. I definitely appreciate having Felipe translate, and how encouraging the people of Colombia were to me. Still do not think my humor or sarcasm translated well, but I think scripture balanced everything out.
• This verse has been bouncing around in my head for weeks = 1 Peter 4:10 (ESV) “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” And really changed my heart how Amy, Matt, Shane, and I used our gifts for the good of HIS Kingdom.
• It was beautiful to see God working in the lives of my wife and my team. The opportunity to glorify God in Santa Marta, Colombia and it was fun to teach a subject that each of us had such a passion for because LifeGroups had made such in our lives. Amy and I sharing that we were saved through a LifeGroup after marriage was a very translatable story about evangelism.
• Poverty looks different than I expected. I think it makes me see that in United States we are actually poorer in the “important” stuff like marriage, family, parenting, and hospitality. We are weak because our culture equates “stuff” to success. Success looks very different in a place where you need less “junk” to be happy.
• Short-term missionaries need to tell the story of long-term missionaries. I was amazed to see the work that Pastor Julio and Jon have done in Santa Marta. They were both very diligent in introducing all of the other long-term missionaries, and their works to my team. It took me a few days being home to realize, and that we have an opportunity to enhance those missionaries through our prayers and support. Each one of them had a great story to tell.
• Serving others in a different country feels great to my heart. #TAP #ThatSOMEBODY #IamTHIRD
• Kip was right, we can build beautiful Christian friendships with people who the only thing we have in common is our LOVE of The Lord. Kip’s #VAPE (Vision, Articulation, Persuasion, and Exhortation) were present on our trip, even though she was not. She is already working our success story on our other children.
• #T-Claps to Matt for having #VISION and assembling a team that tried their very best to serve.
• #T-Claps to Forest Hill Fort Mill and South American Missions for supporting our trip.

Felipe would translate this for me “Thanks for reading this and taking the time to listen”
AYE!

A beautiful morning accompanied the official launch of the newest Lake Wylie AO, The Poopdeck. Obviously a name like the Poopdeck needs some explanation.

For everyone’s education, a ‘Poopdeck’ is a deck that forms the roof of a cabin built in the rear part of the ship. It originated from the French word for stern, la poupe. In sailing ships, with the helmsman at the stern, an elevated position was ideal for both navigation and observation of the crew and sails. On modern warships, the functions previously performed on the Poopdeck have been moved to the bridge.

Therefore the Poopdeck was a very important and integral part of the ship, allowing its officers in charge to not only navigate but observe and protect the crew. Since leaders of ships used the Poopdeck to navigate the rough seas and observe their crews, it seems a very appropriate name for our new AO.

Now with all the said, I knew none of that when I threw out the name. I knew it was fun to say and stuck with the aquatic theme we have in Lake Wylie. All the other AOs in Lake Wylie (‘The Deep’, ‘The Abyss’) are very serious and I thought we could use one to lighten things up. Lucky for me the names origin fits.

As I rolled into the parking lot, I see Wild Thing fresh, off the IR, ready and waiting. After a few minutes the rest of the Pax started to roll in, including a visit from Cha Ching and Olaf. The best part is our EH from last week showed so T-Claps to Dark Helmet for closing the deal.

With 8 of the Pax ready and waiting at 5:15, we quickly realized we were “Q-less” about who was leading. But it was time to start so an Impromptu Q it is. After a detailed disclaimer with the FNG present we set off on a lap around the shopping center so I could get my head around what the workout would be.

Once back in the parking lot we got started with the warm-up.

In between light posts we did high knees, butt kickers, karoake (L & R). Then circled up and performed the warm up excersise followed by 5 burpees:

SSH IC x30
IW IC x10
Windmill IC x10
Merkins IC x10
Peter Parkers X10

The Thang

Mosey to the lake access parking lot and partnered up for some 1-2-3 Dora (always a crowd please and a great way to introduce the FNG to what a F3 workout is all about)

100 Merkins
200 Squats
300 American Hammers (Olaf was was very clear you have to touch the ground for it to count)

About half way through the merkins a mysterious figure appears out of the lake fog, it was the one and only Dark Helmet. He apologized for being late, but no apology necessary. We pick each other up when necessary.

After two quick 10 counts, we moseyed to the side of the paint store and found some wall for the following:

People’s Chair w/ 25 overhead press
5 Burpees
People’s Chair w/ 50 overhead press
5 Burpess
People’s Chair w/ 75 overhead press
5 Burpees
People’s Chair w/ 100 overhead press
5 Burpees

With only a couple minutes left we moseyed to COT and finished with 2 minutes of the protractor.

6 Pax showed up to our 2nd recon of this high-potential AO. We made sure to have two headlamps with us this time to avoid any more curb snipers. With great weather and great attitudes we set off to see what else this AO had to offer.

(T-CLaps to Royale for tagging all the cars in the YMCA parking lot with F3 cards prior to starting the workout.)

Dark Helmet started us with a short mosey to “The CURB” which he handled much more delicately this morning than last. Then a quick hello to the Cat Lady and we circled up behind the liquor store for our warm up.

Wind Mills IC
Cherry Pickers (or whatever they are called) IC
Mountain Climbers IC
SSH IC
Merkins IC

(Sorry dont remember the counts)

A quick mosey to the front parking lot to show off to the YMCA crowd. We did the following across the parking lot and then slow mosey back:

  • Bunny Hops
  • Broad Jumps
  • 50% Run
  • AYG Run

Then he handed it over to me for some punishment. I wanted to see as much of the AO as possible so running was on the agenda.

We started with a 1/2 mile loop through the back neighborhood of Reverse Indian Runs (Thx Pusher) with 10 merkins. We finished in the boat drop-in parking lot.

There we did some line work. One Pax would run the parking lot loop (much larger than I thought) while the rest of the Pax did the following exercises:

  • Line Hops (Forward and Back)
  • Plank Walk the line back and forth
  • Line Hops (Side to Side)
  • Side Shuffle the Line
  • Ladder (In and Out)
  • Line Hops (Forward and Back)

After two quick 10 counts we were off to see the next thing. I let the Pax decide between running the bridge or some wall exercises. To my surprise it was a near unanimous vote for the bridge (Sorry DH, majority rules). So we set off across the bridge which accounts for around a mile loop.

Once we were done with the bridge it was time to head for COT. On the way to COT we pass someone out running. T-CLaps to Dark Helmet for the EH on this one, ended up getting all his information and a HC for next Thursday.

Thanks to all the Pax for all the effort today and helping support this new AO.

Romans 5:3-6, 8
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭3-6, 8‬ ESV)
Talked about how suffering is part of our Christian walk and how Christ suffered the ultimate pain on the cross for all of our sins so that we might be justified and forgiven of our sins.

Suffering happens in three categories:
1. Due to God’s discipline because of sin in our life
2. Due to persecution for standing up for God’s statutes and standards.
3. For no apparent reason (this is where the workout falls)
Remember that sufferings produces endurance that produces character, which allows God to utilize our experiences of suffering to help others through suffering when it comes into their lives.

Reminder that even though suffering was involved in the workout, that was temporary and we needed to focus on eternal things.
How do you get better at suffering?
Let go and LET GOD TAKE OVER. Submit to God and let Him handle it in His strength.
It was an honor leading these 12 strong men today and seeing all push their limits. Great job men!!! Aye!!

On a side note, as I was speaking during some of the warm up about how aweful it would be today, my words came out wrong. I was trying to convey that it wasn’t going to be fun and inadvertently said, “you have the privilege of being here today.” My words should have been “misfortune,” not privilege. I don’t ever want to convey arrogance in any way as I truly have nothing to brag about in light of who I am before Almighty God. I feel that even though I might have gotten “tongue tied” and said words that I didn’t intend to say, it really speaks to the sinful nature within my heart. It is something we all have to keep in check daily, and this morning did not come across that way. For that, I humbly ask for the apologies of all who were there today.

Thanks again for pushing through today men!! It was a honor to be able to participate in the Site Q swap with Mayhem!!

The 5th Annual Joe Davis Run for Recovery 5k/10k Run/Walk, benefiting Keystone Substance Abuse Services, is scheduled for Saturday January 7, 2017 at 8:00 AM at Walter Elisha Park in Fort Mill, SC.

This family-focused/family-friendly event has special meaning to my family because it is in memory of my brother Joe, who died in 2009, at the young age of 28 from an accidental drug overdose. This event was established to capture the hope that Joe always held onto, even when he struggled most. He was often quoted as saying, “Hope…never lose this.”

First, on behalf of my family, please allow me to thank everyone from both F3 and FiA for both past participation and for considering participating again this year as we stand together to fight the awful sickness and disease that is Addiction. This event would only have a fraction of the #IMPACT that it has had if it were not for you!

In 4 Years, the race has raised over $95K for the Keystone Substance Abuse Center! Total participation has grown from 400 in 2013 to 700+ in 2016, including almost 200 F3 and FiA participants. This year’s goal is to expand to 1000 runners, including 250+ F3 and FiA participants! This is achievable if everyone just invites one person! #1KSTRONG

The course is up and down by design. It represents the ups and downs that an addict’s life experiences.
#HILLS4HOPE

We need you, your spouses, your 2.0’s, your family, and your friends to please sign-up and join us in this fight! What a way to start the year!

We will make it fun and will track participation and speed for bragging rights!

If you can do a bootcamp, you can do a 5k! And there are plenty of running workouts and willing PAX to help you get ready!

Here is the link to sign-up now, while prices are lowest!

Please share on Twitter and/or Facebook, when you sign up, and use the hashtags #1KSTRONG and #HILLS4HOPE.

THE WHY

Unfortunately, the odds are that each of us will be affected by Addiction in some way in our lifetimes, whether it be personally, a family member or a friend.

Every day in life, we talk about the “What.” In this case, a running race. But, the “What” matters only because of the “Why,” right?

The “Why” is to spread awareness that there is help available for those struggling; hope that our family wish we had known about. Help and support saves lives.

For our family, we hold tight to Romans 8:28, which reads,

“We know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose”

It is so difficult to lose a member of your family or a dear friend and, unfortunately, there are many within our group who have experienced this. However, we all have a choice to make when faced with that reality. Our family has chosen to do our best to make an #IMPACT because we believe God saves lives through earthly resources when we align with Him. We believe this race is God’s purpose for us and we want Joe’s life to continue counting for good. So many times, when we are out at a restaurant, or in a race, or anywhere, someone recognizes us and tells us that they suffer from addiction or know someone who does, and that the race has impacted their life in a positive way. Those times serve as confirmation that the race is making a difference!

It will be tough, but isn’t it a great reminder of how tough it must be to get free of Addiction?

I hope you will join us as we celebrate Joe’s life on January 7th!

In Him and on behalf of the Davis-Boyd Family,
Rock Thrill (Chris Davis)

1. Proceeds raised from registration fees and donations go to support Keystone Substance Abuse Services, whose mission is promoting health, offering hope, and restoring healing to those impacted by substance abuse and addiction.

2. This is a great event to kickoff your 2017 fitness and commitment goals! Each year we have SEVERAL guys run their first 5K if not for the VERY FIRST TIME… at least in a long while! The PAX always step-up and provide great support for all runners… young, old, fast, not-so-fast, first-time, long-time… it is just a great event for getting 2017 started in the right direction!

3. Finally, by your participation, you encourage others in MANY ways… some ways you may never know…. You encourage neighbors with abusive addictions… You encourage your M’s, 2.0’s, friends and family to also participate… You encourage your PAX to push themselves to achieve something they might not thought was possible 6 months ago… You encourage a community to see what F3 and FiA are all about!!

There will be more information as we get closer and Event Q’s are named… the main thing now is to get signed-up!!

What’s the difference between mercy and grace?

Mercy is God not punishing us as we deserve.Grace is our undeserved favor from God. An illustration of the difference between these terms is as follows:

  • Mercy is like God forgiving your financial debt.
  • Grace of God is like filling up an empty bank account.

Know that we deserve God’s wrath and judgement but He is merciful. #Proverbs 28:13

Mercy is counter to today’s culture but it leads to a more abundant life. Share His mercy by forgiving and praying for others who have trespassed against you.

Peace,

Deacon
