  • Pax: Spiderman, Cerrano, Bolt, Change Order, McGruff, Decibel, Longshanks

At the last Black Diamond, it was only Jekyll (who was the Q) and myself, so by default the clock was ticking on my turn to lead the PAX in a Black Diamond Beat Down (B2D2)… I figured no better day for a downpainment than tax day. The day already is filled with pain, what’s a little more?

The moon was up, the air was cool, and it was time to Mosey…

The Thang:
Head to the upper lot for a little COP/Warmup:
IW x 20 (IC)
FAST SSH x 20 (IC)
Peter Parker x 20 (IC)
Merkin x 15 (IC)
Squat x 20 (IC)
CDD x 20 (IC)

Mosey to cul-de-sac (.5 mi)

Grab a coupon (cinderblock): We’re going to work out in ascending “tax brackets”, from minimum wage to Decibel…
– Cusak lap (hold the cinderblock above your head –  http://f3nation.com/exercises/#c) around lower parking lot back to circle in cul-de-sac
– 10 cinderblock burpees
– Cusak lap (which quickly deteriorated to simply carrying the coupon)
– 20 cinderblock merkins (incline merkin on cinderblock)
Cusak lap (who in the world had the idea to carry cinderblocks around anyway???)
– 30 upright rows
Cusak lap
– 40 bicep curls (2 handed)
– Lap
– 50 squats holding coupon

Next was a variation of a Bear/Crab Suicide:
Bear crawl halfway across lower lot, then crab walk back… Rinse and repeat.

Indian run up the hill (coupons fully abandoned by now) halfway and kneel down on the side for some Jack Webbs 1:4 ratio up to 7 merkins and 28 arm raises

Mosey back to top for some Mary:
– Hello Dolly x 15
– Freddie Mercury x 15
– Rosalita x 15
– Protractors
What’s that? 2 minutes left???
– 15 Burpees OYO just to make sure that everything sticks

COT and Name-a-rama…

============================

As always, an honor to lead, and to be in the gloom with brothers.

– Helmet Out…

100 years on this earth

  • QIC: Spitz and Lugnut
  • When: 04/07/15
  • Pax: Lugnut, Spitz, Bogey, Change Order, McGruff, Cake Boss, Catfish, Chetta, Zima, Dark Helmet, The Librarian, Sasquatch, Cerrano, Spiderman
  • Posted In: The Ballroom

With an all night rain in the forecast Spitz and YHC did not know if we would have any dance partners. But 14 strong men punched their dance card and posted on a raining morning. Spitz and YHC have been on this earth for a combined 100 years(we tried to think of an exercise we could do a 100 of, but could not think of any). But hopefully we gave the young Pax what they paid for.

This is how it went:

Spitz started out like a flash at speeds that we have not seen down Gold Hill road toward the car dealerships. We stopped for the Pledge of Allegiance facing the huge American Flag at the Jeep Dealership. Then a long fast mosey to the farthest cul de sac at the Ballroom.

Warm-up (all in cadence):

Merkins

SSH

IW

Windmills

The Thang:

In the back parking lot we did Bear Crawls to other end stopping half way to do 10 burpies and another 10 burpies at the end. Then lunge walk back with 10 sumo squats midway and at the end.

Mosey to back up toward Gold Hill to a wall for wall sits and balls to the walls.

Hand off to YHC where I did an audible from my weinke as many Pax are doing the Mud Run this Saturday so I decided to go to the double retaining wall (introduced by Senator T) where we proceeded to climb both walls and do 1 bumpies at the top run back around the walls to do 7 bomb jacks at the bottom. We continued this until 7 burpies at the top and 1 bomb jack at the bottom. Plank a roma until the six finished up.

Moroccan Night Clubs IC

CCD IC

Mosied over to a grassy patch for classic Jack Webb 1×4.

Jail Break to COT.

Moleskin:

We learned that Spitz did actually wear Mark Spitz trucks as part of a FM swim team as a boy.

It was an honor for Spitz and YHC to Q this wet morning.

19 of Fort Mill’s best men gathered at The Ballroom to get a little workout in on Tuesday morning. For YHC it was an especially exciting morning since it was my VQ. After having it handed to me so many times from the great Qs in the area over that past few months, I wanted to make sure I returned the favor. Plus, when you’re partnered up with a guy like Zima for the USMC Mud Run, you better bring it strong whether it’s your VQ or 100th Q.

The Thang:

5:15 was my first attempt at a disclaimer; the delivery alone said “not a professional.” And then we were off! We start with a mosey out of the parking lot toward the warehouse buildings down to first warehouse intersection, hang a left and run up to the fence behind Fort Mill Hyundai where everyone circles up for COP.

  • SSH X 25
  • Windmill X 20
  • Imperial Squat Walkers X 15 (insert groaning PAX)
  • Mountain Climber X 10
  • 6 inch 10 sec hold X 3

All warmed up? This AO is littered with opportunity, time for some fun!!! Mosey back to the warehouse intersection and wait for the rest of the PAX. Maximus looks up the the hill and says, “That’s a long hill.” We divide into pairs and start running. The objective is for each partner team to complete 100 wide arm merkins before the running can stop. After a good amount of grunting and the six coming in it was time for a rinse and repeat but this time with a 100 regular merkins.

On the way up for the final set YHC is mid-stride with Zima, and asks “This is going faster than I thought, think we should do another one of these?” Zima replies, “How about 200 squats?” DONE!! So we again rinse and repeat the run but this time with 200 squats.

After a couple of 10 counts it’s time to bring the heart rate down a little so we make a short mosey to the wall near Fort Mill Hyundai and take a seat in the People’s Chair for a 60 second count followed by a 15 count of the famed Moroccan Night Club. Rinse and repeat that combo and off on a mosey again.

This time we head all the way to the end of the warehouse main street, which I have to admit I remembered as being shorter on my scouting trip, to the parking lot at the end of the street. The parking lot also appeared smaller from my steering wheel. So audible it is. The lot is divided in sections so the PAX bear crawls to the first divider, flips it around and crab walks to the end and celebrates with 10 burbees. All the good Qs I mentioned before taught me that every good workout has burbees. Once done with the burbees run back the starting point and plank up for the PAX.

Whoa, time is running short time to head back up the hill to the parking lot. After a nice jog up the hill the PAX circles up to finish with an ab lab.

We welcomed TWO FNGs this morning. The first was took the name Pappy as in Pappy Van Winkle. The second took the name Capone due to his love of the movie The Godfather. Welcome to you both!!

Reminders made to continue the support for the CAH and prep for the mud run on 4/11.

Thank you for all that came out to support my VQ! You truly made it rewarding!

The virtual shovel flag was planted and 21 men got off to a great start this morning with the 2nd official offering of The Ballroom.  This is how it went:

The Thang:

Mosey from the parking lot, down the short hill and head down the road toward the big warehouses.  Do a U-turn and go up/down,  ziggy/zaggy on the grassy hill, and then  follow the road to the lot behind Fort Mill Ford.

COP

SSH x 40, merkin x 10, Windmill x 20, LBC x 25, Squat x 26, MC x 25

Mosey back to the main road and up to the grassy patch.  Starting at the tree line, do the following:

Bear crawl down the grass, across the road, and up the grass hill – jog back (repeat once)

Side shuffle down the grass, acrooss the road… (repeat once)

Backwards bearcrawl, down the grass, across the road…(no repeat – these are hard!)

Jog down the grass, across the road…(repeat, only sprint the second time)

Everybody cross the road and find a spot on the grassy hill for clock merkins:

Assume the plank position move your body like the hand of a clock to various times and do merkins at those times.  We did, 12, 3, 6, 9, 6, and 3 – all in plank, no break.

Mosey to the warehouse parking lot for Jacob’s Wall Ladder.  Starting at 20 paces back, do one burpee, run to the first retaining wall, climb up, then climb over the second wall and run the path back to the start.  Repeat with 2-7 Burpees (crowd pleaser).

Walk back to the wall of the warehouse for extended people’s chair with arms out, up, etc  (I believe it was Anchorman who shouted, ‘hey, we’re still sitting!’ after the first 60 sec.  Aye – that’s right!)  Take a short walk break to stretch out the legs and repeat  .

Mosey to the grass patch in front of the Chicken Roaster for COP abs:

Freddie Mercs x 25 (fast and slow), Russian Twist x 25, Hello Dolly x 20, Superman/parachute x 2

COT

Moleskin

It was a great morning in the gloom, althrough 55 deg is still a litle too warm for me this early in the year.   We had a great turnout today and you can already tell that the Ballroom will be a popular Tuesday morning spot at 5:15.  It’s always fun to Q, especially with a brand new  AO that still has a lot of virgin territory to explore and enjoy.  Great work by the Pax tackling the Jacob’s Wall Ladder.  My guess is that I’m not the only one who banged up his knees and put some wear on the toes of his shoes today   We’ll be using hose retaining walls again, I’m sure.

Welcome, FNG, Pete Faliskini (Calimari).  Glad to have you with us, brother and we hope to see you back.

Announcements

WE NEED SNACKS!!  The snack donations are picking up – keep em coming.

Prayers for a sick infant, those with serious illnesses and for a friend who died sudenly.

COT

Thanks to pax for a strong showing, Cake Boss for the Q invite (deferred one week by Mr Freeze) and Change Order for hosting the pax this morning and future Tuesday mornings.  Certainly put a dent in the register receipts at Golden Corral today!

T-claps to Sir Topham Hat for nailing his VQ!  Site Qs need to get him on the calendar.

The naming of the AO brought about much discussion.  Themes from Warehouse to fast food to fitness to precious metals.  And then the muse made her presence felt….the ballroom dancing spot instantly became visible in the eye of every pax.  So, what will it be Change Order?

After plenty of running at Old Town yesterday, I swore to myself that there would be no running today. I pledged to my aching quads and tight hamstrings that they would get a break.  Yet, upon exiting my car, the sweet call of the sirens began to fill my ears….in the form of McGruff and Trucker, they baited me.  Like a long-legged vixen from a Van Halen video, images from my adolescence in the 1980s began to swirl in my head.  I brushed it off, saying that STH was leading…he was in charge of the festivities today.  But, I could feel my pulse picking up pace.  I took a few deep breaths….I told myself that STH already had an Indian Run on tap.  That would be enough.  That would scratch the itch without going over the edge.  That seemed to do the trick…it was like a cold shower without the shivers.  As we launched, COP provided the perfect warm up.  The Indian Run got the blood flowing without taxing the lungs or spreading the pax out too far.  Thankfully it did not trigger me.  When STH passed me the reins, I was confident – I CAN DO THIS!  We went through all the moves along the warehouse.  There were groans and grumbles, proving that it was possible.  The knee tar jai reinforced my resolve — yes I can deliver pain to the pax without pounding the pavement!  We were in close quarters, the mumble chatter was escalating, the pax was working hard and pushing each other.  Even the bomb jacks were taken in good spirits.  But then…a whisper…did I really hear that?  Was it actually spoken or was it just the temptresses seeping back into my consciousness?  The questions swirled in my head as we dropped to the ground for hello dollies…but NO!…those could be dangerous.  So I called an audible to flutter kicks….those should be harmless.  And yet, the voices in my head grew louder.  The images spun faster.  Counting cadence was not a sufficient distraction.  My heart rate accelerated.  The internal argument in the court room of my brain became deafening!    I held on as tightly as I could, white knuckling it mentally.  “I can’t give in!” I was screaming with my mouth clenched tight.  And then…it happened…I succumbed.  The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.  Yes, “I Ran!…I ran so far away…but I couldn’t get away.”
