17 Patriots came to The Swamp on this 4th of July eve to get a daily down painment before celebrating our country’s birthday. YHC felt  we needed to honor those that gave the ultimate price for the freedom we enjoy and so a modified Murph was brought to mind.

YHC mentioned that leadership starts at home and that absent fathers is the cause of many social issues.

40% youth go to bed without biological father at home….83% of youth believe their moral decisions depend on the situation

As men, we need to lead in our homes and it begins with us knowing Christ and his will for us, so we can in turn share that with our kids or kids in our lives.

The Thang:

1 mile mosey arounds the Swamp

Modified Murph

Instead of pullups – YHC provided cinder blocks and we did the following

50 overhead presses

100 merkins

200 air squats

20 dips, 10 derkins run lap around circle x 2 (2 times)

1 mile mosey back to COT

10 – curb merking each side

20 LBC

15 Flutter Kicks

15 Freddy Murcury’s

COT:

All the men worked hard and encouraged each other and that is why we get out there at 0515 in the morning – Great Work!

Lead your families and encourage your kids to be strong in the Lord and away from culture. Culture puts unrealistic expectation on each of us, and Christ just loves us and asks us to love each other. If we can have that confidence and knowledge we can face anything.

Worlds Largest Coffeeteria 8/8 Rock Hill Applebees

Prayers for Tater’s father in-law as he passed away and praise that he knew the Lord, so we celebrate his homecoming! Prayers for the family as they miss him.

Prayers for the youth that are losing all hope in this world and comitting suicide. Let them all find hope in Christ and not this world and be filled with his love.

Thank you Cable Guy for the opportunity!

July 4th Celebration #America

  • QIC: CSPAN and Pusher
  • When: 7/4/15
  • Pax: 32 Men from the Fort including 18 for a little extra credit (Horrible idea!)
  • Posted In: The Fort

In the spirit of “if there is no backblast, then there was no workout” it was time for YHC to put together the review of our July 4th workout. It was a pleasure leading the Pax with my friend CSPAN (#Nantan) and another great reminder of the type of men that we have at the Fort. If you are looking for #HIM in Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Indian Land or Tega Cay simply put “just post” at an AO and look around. They are everywhere! Since this was a very special occasion, the backblast is going to be a little different. So here goes…

“Sure, lets do that!?!”

In the last year,  I have really enjoyed getting to know more about CSPAN. As mentioned above, our region has a plethora of leaders and CSPAN stands out as one of the best. We regularly chat on opportunities and strategies for the Fort. Typically, this is about 5 minutes of the call and then the next 30-45 are general tomfoolery, life lessons about raising girls and picking on WWL (#easy target). This week our regular chat was going along well when he announced that he was Q at the Fort for the 4th. The discussion turned to BRR and then the light bulb went off. Lets run from Slow Burn to WEP, Q the Workout and then run back. Both of us knew that sounded horrible….so of course, we should do it!

The Trap

So a few days go by and there was no more chatter about the Q or the extra credit. YHC was kinda hoping that CSPAN would forget (#old) or maybe we both were just joking. Well, he was not. And not only that, he sent a group Tweet that tagged 10 people to join us. Little did they know, it was a trap!

The Thang

18 Men arrived at Slow Burn for the extra credit (Wow!). Proceeded to run 1.8 miles to WEP to meet with our other 14 brothers for the workout.

CSPAN on Q

COP

Various exercises X 10

Pledge of Allegiance

Run to Playground – Partner Up

Pull Ups, Dips, Squats (10 times!)

Handoff to Pusher – Determined to do something different…

Seal Team Sit Ups x 21

Drill Bits – Maybe a little agressive…

COT/BOM – Review the weekly email for announcements

Run 1.8 miles home

Coffeeteria at Dunkin

What we learned

  • The men of the Fort are humble and accountable and demonstrate the definition of #HIM. If you missed Dark Helmet EHing a guy at WEP during the workout, then you missed one of the best parts of F3. Great job Dark Helmet!
  • We live in the greatest country in the world and the brave men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our freedom are the true heroes. We recognized your continued effort on our behalf by keeping the flag moving throughout the park during the workout.
  • YHC is constantly reminded of how important F3 has become in my life.  There is no question that without F3, I would have fartsacked on the 4th and missed a great workout but more importantly, some great fellowship. Really enjoyed the conversation with Flat Tire on the way back to Slow Burn. He is a great man and continues to coach me in my running efforts. Stay with me!
  • Really proud of whats happening with the kids of the PAX. From the F3 Dads to seeing Sweeper  with his VQ or Jeter with his upcoming Q or the ongoing efforts at CAH, there is some great demonstration of leadership out there. Keep up the great work!
  • Lastly, CSPAN is a great Nantan for the Fort. Proud to be your friend!

Moderate? Well… you get what you pay for (i.e. what you put in).

  • QIC: Dark Helmet
  • When: 07/06/15
  • Pax: I accidentally deleted the recording from my phone before I typed this. I apologize. That said, I'll do my best to recreate, but feel free to sound off in the comments who I missed: CSPAN, Cheddah, Car Bomb, Green Wave, Longshanks, Backdraft, Bassomatic, The Librarian, War Eagle, Catfish, Decibel, Javert, Dark Helmet (YHC), Spitz, Sweeper, Chicken Hawk, Uncle Si, McGruff, Change Order, Grid Lock, and 5 more guys that I can't remember... (It's not you, it's me...)
  • Posted In: The Armory

Another Monday, and 25 gloom-hungry monsters came expecting to work hard.

No newbies, so we disclaimed a little and then chatted for a second. What’s the difference between a hard workout, and a moderate workout? Moderate is a state of mind. Moderate is a choice you make. The workout is the workout to a large degree. Some are crazy hard, some are a little lame, but whether or not it is one of those to you largely depends on the choice you make in your mind to push hard, or to just show up and only go halfway. Aye? Great. The Thang:

WARM UP:
Jog to front of church and circle up.
– 25 fast SSH (IC)
– 10 slow Windmills (IC)
– 25 IW (IC)
– 20 Moroccan Nightclubs (IC)
– 15 Merkins (IC)
– 15 CDD (IC)

PARTNER UP (get somebody with the same sized kettlebell, if possible):
Each exercise will go to 50 counts between the two partners.
Round 1 (3 exercises – Kettlebell Burpees, Overhead Presses, Goblet Squats):
– Partner 1 runs parking lot lap (roughly .18mi) while Partner 2 does the exercise. Get to 50 reps each, then LBCs until the 6 is in
Round 2 (same thing, except 50 Lunges with pass through of bell, 50 curls each arm, 2 handed clean and jerk with a shoulder press combo)

Head to the low wall. Do 50 partner dips (feet on partners back, hands on wall) each.

Head to the big wall. Ascending testicles – 15 derkins with feet at 15 degrees, 10 at 45 degrees, 5 all the way up in BTTW. (This REALLY sucked.)

A little bit of Mary (no, Lou Bega wasn’t involved – if you don’t get the reference Google: Mambo number 5)

Run a Cusak lap to finish things off.

==============

Parting thoughts:
Do we push ourselves all the way, or are we holding back and not leaving it all out “on the field”? In our marriages, with our kids, at work, in our worship, in our workouts, in our resting even… Are we pushing and leaving it out there, or are we holding back? And if we are holding back, why? My challenge to myself (and I guess to other PAX) is to be intentional. Show up. Have a plan. Make it count. Go against the flow if you have to. Run with scissors when it’s called for. Leave it all out there (wherever there may be). Don’t be selfish, self-centered, or afraid. Give it away. Give your best to those who matter most, and stop living less than what you were put here to be. Period.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go play the sh*t out of some Barbies with my three little girls.

Helmet, out…

Pusher’s PHOP AMRAP Fit Test Part Deux

  • QIC: Catfish
  • When: 07/01/15
  • Pax: Sergeant York, Tinker Toy, Shrute, Padre, Gepetto, Deacon
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

Pusher came down and Q’ed PHOP back in May. He brought an AMRAP pyramid and challenged the PAX to see how far they could get. Well, YHC and Gepetto had a Co-Q last Wednesday. I pitched the idea of a Part Deux to him, he thought it sounded like a challenge worth accepting.

Ol’ Gepetto warmed us up with a lap around the parking lot then to COP for some SSH’s, wind mills, merkins, imperial walkers, and some others I know I’ve forgotten.

He graciously handed over the reins of Q and we took another lap around the parking lot, ending at the front of the church. This would be our launch point for the remainder of the workout.

The pyramid was constructed of the following exercises:

Merkins x 50
Flutters x 40
Dry Docks x 30
Flying Squirrels x 20
Jump Squats x 10
Bombjacks x 10
Derkins x 20
Dips x 30
Freddy x 40
Jumping Lunges x 50

All the PAX started with a lap around the building then completed the first exercise. A lap was taken after each exercise through the pyramid. The single lap was doubled once you made it through the pyramid the first time.

The only record I could find from the last running of this AMRAP was that Burgundy and Tinker Toy made it to Freddy’s on the second lap. So this time we recorded everyone’s accomplishments during COT.

Sergeant York – 2nd round jump squats
Tinker Toy – completed 2nd round
Shrute – 2nd round derkins
Padre – 2nd round derkins
Gepetto – 2nd jump squats
Deacon – 2nd round derkins
Catfish – 2nd round jump squats

Thanks Pusher for the original Q! It’s nice to have a benchmark to hold yourself accountable to!

As always, it was a privilege and honor to lead this great PAX!

Catfish … OUT!

Moleskin: There is a difference between Belief and Faith. Belief in God can often be much easier than Faith that He has a plan for us, no matter what our current struggles might be. Many times in life, we’ll tell ourselves that we’ve figured it out… That we don’t need help anymore… Only to rediscover that we still (as when we were 18 and cocky) don’t know it all. Being in shape – physically, mentally, and spiritually, more so than the general population – can make us prideful. Pride can be a wall between us and God. Peach confided a crisis of Faith and asked for prayers.

It was my honor to Q with Chaser today, and it has been great to see him lead in F3, the work he has done in @F3Winnsboro & @F3Asheville is awesome…and I prefer when he gets the backblast duties…because they are witty when he writes them …and grammatically correct…and he uses less periods….and less ####…and it actually makes sense…is anybody even reading these anymore…can I get a comment? can I get a favorite?

Be a better man today than you were yesterday,
