20 PAX enjoyed a stroll in the park and down town for an hour of pain and a little service.  PAX #21 still not named was a 40lb sack of sand that represented those in society that don’t fit in, that stay in the shadows because they are not accepted as mainstream.  No one usually invests in them emotionally or spiritually.  The call to the PAX was to step up and share the burden of carrying the sack and serving a less accepted brother.  The call is to go out into or sphere of influence and invest in those that no one else will invest in and accept them and try to influence them in a Godly way.

One year in…

  • Posted In: Slow Burn

“9 PAX came out for Hard Drive’s VQ as he planted the VSF on a VAO for the inaugural Slow Burn workout, and found out that the term ‘moderate workout’ is a work-in-progress. The tone was set with a few words by Henry Ford: “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.” With that the PAX headed out into the gloom…”

That is the opening paragraph to the first Slow Burn backblast (and my first backblast as Q) back on 6/27/2014.  One year later, 17 Pax (including Trucker, the only other pax that was at the Slow Burn launch) came and worked together for an extra-moderate workout.

Mosey back to Empire lot for some Dealers Choice Mary for 7 minutes.

Line up with partner and platoon run (no, not an Indian Run Twister) back to the #ShovelFlag for COT

Moleskin:
Today’s post was special to me, not only because it was the one-year anniversary for Slow Burn but also my two-year anniversary of my first post.  In that time I’ve met a lot of special men and have done a lot of special things (Spartan Race I’m looking at you).  I know I don’t have to write a long witness about everything F3 has done for me.  You all know.  You all have been there.

Today’s theme was about teamwork and leaning on your buddy to help you get better.  Slow Burn has been a great success because the region’s pax have consistently been out over the year to make it that way.  “Working together is success.”  We’ve come full circle.

When it started, Slow Burn was the only Friday workout.  Now there are four as our region continues to grow.  Moving forward in Year 2 will be Solid State as the new Slow Burn Site Q.  I’m very excited that he has accepted the challenge and I cannot think of a better leader.  Please join me in supporting him.  AYE!

MoleSkin:

Even though our tax $ are at work at FMHS with a lot of construction this is an excellent AO. Also every Friday morning around 5:45 the Hive is buzzing with activity as the FMHS cheerleaders come in for their conditioning. Thankfully Wheelz was not almost run over like 3 weeks ago.

There is a lot of room to explore on the campus. For any new Q’s, Kbell workouts are the best to start with. Also for the more seasoned Q’s, the site holds a lot of options. In addition, it is convenient as you can still attend Chicken and Wisdom. If you are new to kbell you need to try it (also generally there are extra bells brought by the PAX) Thanks LongShanks for the honor to Q this morning. You also have a sweet shovel flag.

Thank you Wheelz with a strong take out with prayers lifted up for his M’s job interview, SeaCrest’s move across town and LongShanks trip to Aruba.

Intentionally serve your family and your community.

Story Time with Apache…

  • QIC: Dark Helmet
  • When: 06/23/15
  • Pax: Transplant, Catfish, Smiley Face, Schrute, Bogey, Apache, Lucky Charms, Burgundy, Toro (FNG), Band Camp, Stang, Alpine, Dark Helmet (YHC), and one more whose name escapes me at the moment and I am terribly sorry about that. I had typed it in here, then erased the recording off my phone, then my browser locked up, and... well... Anyway, there was another guy.
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

The first thing you need to do the next time you post with Apache, is to get him to tell you the story of how Turkey Punching came to be… You will want to make sure you have at least 5 minutes to hear the story in its full glory, but trust me, it’s worth it…

Bogey brought an FNG to the party, so a full and clear disclaimer was given, and then it was off to The Thang:

First things first, we moseyed over to campus. If you’ve never been to Eagle’s Nest, go. It’s a fantastic AO with lots of variety. Good stuff there…
There is a long stretch with rectangle patterns and a big circle at one end and so I’m so inventive that we circled up… on the circle…
Warm up = 25 counts of squats, SSH (ludicrous speed), IWs, Windmills, Moroccan Nightclubs, and such.
Then we did 10 (15? I don’t remember…) burpees in cadence. Everyone LOVED that……. (is that sarcasm? Why yes, yes it is…)

Then for the next 100 yards down this long stretch with rectangles it was bear crawl to the end of one then 1 burpee, run to the next then 1 burpee and so on until the top of the steps. A quick 10 count and a long story about turkey punching from Apache and we were off again, this time down the steps to the amphitheater.

There it was run to the top of the amphitheater, tag the fence, run down, 5 burpees OYO, then repeat 3 times. As if that didn’t suck enough, rinse and repeat the whole thing again. Because, you know, who doesn’t love burpees?

Then we moseyed over to a loading dock area where we did some wall sits and some BTTW. Hold as long as you can, then take a lap around the big circle after you fall, come back and sit on the wall again to wait for the 6.

Mosey back over the steps we came down earlier. Partner up, size only matters a little. After I said that, though, there was a bit of mumble chatter, and then somehow Apache had bent Bogey over and… well… let’s just say that there was a need for some bombjacks at this point, so we all knocked out 10 of those… because it was definitely warranted, and… well… let’s just say that I can’t unsee that… Wow… Anyway, where was I? Ah yes, partner up at the steps.

Partner 1 takes partner 2’s legs and wheelbarrows to the top of the steps, run to the bottom and flapjack.

Then we run to the top of the steps together and 100 yd dash (sprint) it back to the circle where we started for a little Mary:
Some flutters, LBCs, protractors, and such round out our time together.
Mosey back for the COT.

Moleskin:
For the benefit of the FNG, we went over the 3Fs. Then we talked a little about why we use the shovel flag, and my belief that the .05F (just before the 1st F) is Freedom. That’s the whole reason we are able to do what we do.

Tclaps to Apache for committing to baptism and inspiring Schrute’s son to possibly do the same.

Good stuff this AM…

Helmet out…

Naked Man Moleskin:

Started the day excited to celebrate my birthday by being amongst and leading the men I respect.  Ended the workout and day being inspired by one of our newest brothers Mark Nemitz (F3: Rock).  Blown away by his courage to speak up and out in COT regarding his current happenings, being widowed, parenting adult children.  Not the easiest of comfort levels to speak at COT, especially if you are new.  He needed us and we needed him.  #courage.  On the run to convergence, asked Mark how he got his name.  At his first post last week, the story was told of recent loss of his wife and how his faith and strength in God is carrying him through this.  F3 nickname: Rock. Inspired by the PAX and the meaning(s) of this name as I know it will carry Mark up and out of bed, to workouts to share 1st, 2nd, 3rd Fs and throughout his day.  I felt another step closer to God after my conversation with Rock.

Inspiration will grab you when you aren’t looking.

Mind Cake Boss’s insightful TFTD: Be real, no imitation.

Make it a great day!
