Thirty Four pax showed up in the Petra gloom for a slow-burn with the Sapper! Although four pax went for a 4-6 mile mosey, the remaining pax commenced with the program.  We were fortunate to have one FNG a.k.a “F3Gracie” to join in the suffrage! After a quick disclaimer and demonstration of skills needed to accomplish the workout it began. The theme of the day was to honor the core values and physical abilities of SGT David Franks based on his actions in Ghazni, Afghanistan.
The Warm-up: We conducted the overhead arm-pull stretch, the windmill, Moroccan Night Clubs, SSH’s and some Merkins.

The Thang:  We started with a short mosey around the Petra AO that led us to the Wall of Pain for the workout to begin. Upon negotiation of the obstacle, we broke into three-man teams and performed a two-man battle carries for a distance of about 100m. We then conducted an additional round of Merkins while waiting for the six to arrive. We then continued to mosey down to additional (and higher) Walls of Pain. Upon negotiating those, we continued to mosey back to the AO where we conducted additional rounds of Merkins, Wide-arm Merkins, Staggered Merkins, Carolina Dry Docks Monkey Humpers and finally, the Wave of Merkins. We ended with a slow-burn of LBCs while we waited for the runners to return

10 pax helped celebrate Gilmore’s VQ at TheYard, despite the air being thick enough to cut with a 9-iron. Gilmore, sounding like a professional, offered a disclaimer and kicked off the first half:

Moleskin
Let me start off by saying Gilmore did an excellent job at his VQ. In YHC’s humble opinion, he’s ready to be added to the Q schedules for any AO. T-claps to #HIM, and to the pax that came out to support his VQ appearance.
(The) Pusher recently sent me an F3 Foundation article on igniting the potential energy in men to convert it to kinetic “leadership” energy. It strikes me as fascinating that the leadership energy is already in each of us – not an energy that has to be created from scratch. With the proper ignition source, everyone can become a “leader in motion”. Knowing this makes me look at leadership development in a whole new way, starting with myself, then looking at my kids, then looking at leaders greater than myself. It’s not always “building up”. Sometimes it’s just figure out how to release it with a few sparks.

Not sure I was ready for this one. Lots of exercises to muscle failure, one right after the other. What has this F3 thing done to me? Where I want to show up early and stay later (2ndF). Where I have a document on my Cloud Drive for dumb and stupid ideas for Qs and CSAUPs. It’s really out of hand. Someone should have an intervention. Someone should tell me the fern isn’t that bad. Being a Sad Clown is comfortable! It’s where it’s at! Sorry. That ship has sailed. Those pants were bonfired and that light faded as I stepped (moseyed) towards the gloom. Wait! Where was I? This is a backblast not a declaration (but it kinda is).

0440 I’m setting up cones, table, scoring sheets, water. I’m excited! I’m pumped!
0445 No ones pre-running #smart
0450 A few PAX are rolling in
0455 More pax rolling in, this is gonna be good!
0500 Disclaimer as well as PSA that Dark Helmet is sharing a portion of this workout across the river at PHOP
0501 Mosey lap in parking lot and line up by the columns for COP (SSH, IW, Cherry Pickers and Windmills)
0505 THE THANG – PAINtheon Games

All of these workouts were done in succession with very little time for recovery. It was glorious!

-2 Minute Merkins AMRAP (Perfect Form)
-2 Minute Big Boy Situps AMRAP
-2 Minute Burpees AMRAP
-100 Yard Bear Crawl Dash (for some not as dashy)
-1 Mile Timed
-BTTW Timed
-6 inch hold Timed
-Burpee Chase (.33 mile run with 4 burpee stations, 5 at each station)

A couple PAX rolled in a little late, but Tclaps to them for staying once they saw what was going on. The hour flew by and it was definitely #CSAUP worthy. Here are my notes:

-Tclaps to Italian Job and Burgundy for coming across the river! Thanks guys.
-Tclaps to Longshanks for completing the events he could while on a boat somewhere (#vacation)
-Tclaps to Anchorman and Gekko for the highest quality clipboard Qing I have ever seen
-Bolt and Burgundy are not human. These guys are super-fast! They placed in almost every category.
-Aquaman…BTTW…#beast
-Italian Job…2+ minute 6 inch hold? Make our #Grantan proud!

As commented by Gekko
-Howitzer was a beast on the Merkins and may actually be a bear (I have never seen a bear crawl that fast)
-Zima’s language got progressively more “salty” as the difficulty increased (#guilty)
-Those handsome (Gekkos words #notthatkindofgroup) gentlemen from across the river are the real deal
-Props to Destiny and Router for not getting into their cars and leaving after showing a little late and seeing what was going on

COT and BOM led by Gekko

Thanks for an amazing year at this AO. Great group of PAX that shows up every week.  Really appreciate all the support and Qs.  Looking forward to the next installment of the PAINtheon!

And without further commentary, the results. Please check Dark Helmet’s BB for PHOP numbers.

Earmuffs and Empanadas

  • QIC: Bounty Hunter
  • When: 06/02/16
  • Pax: General, Fire Hazard, Ringer
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

Not feeling very creative this day so I decided to proudly borrow a HIIT workout from my friend Argonaut. With some guidance the night before I proceeded to download the app & music he kindly referred to me… and just like that everything was setup for the next morning. One thing to note, the two playlist he sent me was not kid friendly (#earmuffs).

While music was played (that you needed earmuffs for) and a tabata timer, we performed a series of exercises together for 30 seconds, followed by 15 second of recovery to prepare for the next station. After each cycle, run around the parking lot and return for the next round. 7 rounds were completed.

Warm-up:
The warm-up segments were as followed:

  • SSH
  • IW
  • Merkins
  • Squats
  • CDD
  • Seal Jacks

Jog a lap around the parking lot (2 minutes)

The Thang:
This second round, I cannot remember what the heck we did… Just know it was a build up as we’re still warming up. That’s what I get for waiting a week.

Jog a lap around the parking lot (2 minutes)

Completed 3 sets of:

  • Air squats
  • Mountain climbers
  • Jump Squats
  • High Knees
  • Alternating Jump Lunge
  • Tuck Jumps

Jog a lap around the parking lot between each set (2 minutes)

Completed 2 sets of:

  • 8 Count Body builders
  • Flutters
  • Tuck Jumps
  • Freddy
  • Bear Crawls (forward 15 seconds / background 15 seconds)
  • LBCs

Jog a lap around the parking lot between each set (2 minutes)

Moleskin:
One thing we know is that Indian Land guys are not the best about getting BB up. That being said, there is going to be more push to ensure these get added on a regular basis. Not too many prayer request / things going on other than Hog & Coyote on Father’s day weekend.

Always an honor to lead… Bounty Hunter over and out!

Monday morning and it was 4:55, YHC jumped into the F3 StankWagon with PinUp in the co-pilot’s seat and blasted out of the driveway neglecting all preflight checks, to assure arrival at the AO a few minutes early. The StankWagon rolled into the parking lot greeted with a couple of cars with sleepy forms inside which began to stir as PinUp rolled into the COP with his favorite DB. YHC grabbed 2 bells this morning. As YHC had the Q, there was a consideration whether it should be the 20# baby bell, or the 30#. SubPrime arrived sans-bell, and when given the option, chose wisely which left the 30# for the Q. No Problem, as the 40# Soul Crusher was in the front of the garage this morning. The thought of being Q with the Soul Crusher inspired queasiness.

In normal fashion, advertising that Geronimo is on Q results in 0 FNGs. Therefore the short disclaimer and a little lap around the lot to warm up.

The Thang
It took a minute to materialize what exactly this should look like but in F3 fashion, we throw something out there and things seem to evolve quickly into something that works.
Count off into 2 groups
Group 1
LBCs with KB
Group 2
10 KB swings
Swap- Repeat – Swap- Decrease by 1 until both groups complete 10 through 1 KB swings

Short mosey around the end of the lot and back to the other end with Bells in Cusak position
12 Single Leg Deadlifts each side
8 Single Leg Deadlifts each side
4 Single Leg Deadlifts each side

Bent over Row – Oblique Bends each side 4x8x12

Short mosey around the end of the lot and back to the other end with Bells in Cusak position

Standing chest press – Squat & High Pull 4x8x12

Short mosey around the end of the lot and back to the other end with Bells in Cusak position

Skull Crushers – Chest Press each side 4x8x12

Mosey back to start for Mary

It was a bit of a rough start with the first station and how best to execute it in this setting. With a bit of group input and evolution it turned into something workable. It’s always a pleasure to lead this diverse group of High Impact Men.

It’s so muggy, it’s sweaty and heard to breathe… And the workout starts in a few minutes…
Seriously. It’s like a sauna and my original plan had to be adjusted because the Google Map of the AO isn’t accurate at the moment. Construction/progress has torn up the grass I wanted to use. Oh well… I’ll just be minute or two late. Which is good. Because then Cable Guy has more to give me crap about (like he needed any help there?)…

So I was 2 minutes late to my own Q. No, I don’t have a good excuse. Yes, it did all work out. As I am hustling from where I parked my car so I could set up all my coupons and cones, I met the Pax as they were rounding the corner, our fearless leader, Pusher (#Mantan), in the lead. I wave them down, and after I was given assurance that they had more or less properly disclaimed, we warmed up a little with some SSHs, IWs, Merkins, Windmills, etc., then we moseyed to The Thang…

Triple up, size doesn’t matter. 6 stations set around the parking lot/grassy area in the back of the Gander Mtn. lot. AMRAP for 30 minutes. After each station run a long lap around the lot.

Station 1: 25 Cinderblock Squats
Station 2: Hairburners with 50lb. sandbag (down and back or down and carry back)
Station 3: 25 Medicine ball slams
Station 4: 25 Cinderblock Curls
Station 5: 25 Plyo Merkins
Station 6: 25 Gator Merkins

Mosey back for a little Mary and COT…

NMM:
I may or may not have been just a couple of minutes late for the start. Google Maps isn’t the most reliable, and the locale I had planned on using was torn up for construction. I had to search quickly and find a new spot which was further away, and it threw off my game… Moral of the story? Same moral it always is. Plan ahead, leave extra time, ask for help if you need it. You’d think that I’d have this 100% figured out by now… Sadly, I still forget or get over-confident and then get burned.

Cable Guy didn’t pass gas once that I am aware of for a whole workout. Someone can correct me on this, but I think that’s the case. I think he may need to seek medical attention…

We covered close to 3 miles. So, yeah… it sucked. However, no partner carries, no bear crawls (my usual go-to’s).

Always a pleasure gents…

Helmet, out.

Dog Days of Summer

  • QIC: DD, Fishsticks
  • When: 6/4/2016
  • Pax: Trucker, Bing, Smuggler, Cake Boss, Change Order, Corruption, DD, Fishsticks
  • Posted In: Alcatraz

The pre-festival events started at 5:30 am with a 4..5 mile run up and down the hills around Alcatraz.  Corruption attacked the hills like those infamous coyotes roaming the Tega Cay area.  The question of the morning, “Why is the pre-run so early?”  Answer:  we usually add a mile or more to the pre-run and it allows ample recovery time for the boot camp beat down. As the PAX filed in, the mumble chatter about the heat began to fill the air.  Trucker strapped on his weight vest..a brave man!

After a quick disclaimer, we took a nice leisurely stroll around the park.  We circled up in the center of the field for the following warm-up exercises:

 SSHs (x25)

Imperial Walkers (x15)

Windmills (x15)

LBCs (x15)

Superman

Mountain Climbers (x15)

Next, we tightened the circle for 10 rounds of the merkin wave.  At one point, I lost count of the sets, but I was quickly corrected by the PAX.

Next, we worked on our agility and speed as a group by performing a version of the angled pole weave seen in dog competitions.  No dogs, trainers, or poles so the first round was done at a very slow speed.  The first person ran 10 yards, stopped, and performed squats.  Second person ran past first person, stopped, and performed squats.  The next person weaved in between the two, stopped, and performed squats. This activity continued until we reached the other side of the field.  We increased the speed and reversed course back to where we started.

The next drill was the jump and plank.  Each person jumped over each person planked on the group until we got to the other side of the field.  Once complete, we reversed course and headed back to the starting point.

One more round of angled pole weave with squats at a faster pace.

We took a minute to catch our breath while I handed the Q over to DD.

Next, we ran over to the baseball diamond for a quick sprint around the bases.

We paired up for some sprints and exercises.

Partner 1 – run across the field and back

Partner 2 –         5 Bomb Jacks

                           10 Monkey Humpers

                           15 Squats

Brief break to catch our breath, then boom… 20 Burpees.

Another round of the partner exercises listed above.

Boom..20 burpees to finish off the PAX still standing

DD shared some personal experiences related to humility.  He explained how it helps to live in reality and appreciate the things we have.  I thought a lot about the message when I got home.  It is not always easy to swallow you pride, but being aware of the things that matter the most helps.

I said it.  I tweeted it. I even opened with it at 0514.  I’d been off for a few days and was feeling anxious and ready to be back in the gloom. I knew I would start hard.  ~7 min pace down Main Street, backward bear crawl up stairs, 5 X 3-merkin burpees at the bottom of the hotbox and partner derkins at the top.  Down the stairs… but by the time we got down to the park, I had lost half of the PAX.  A gentle nudge by @Mayhem (I think) that today’s PAX was “23, not 6” reminded me that leadership isn’t showing what a badass you think you are, its working with and for your brothers, friends, coworkers, or family toward a common goal.  To show the way and allow for each to grow.  Long story short:   What started as an unitentional “me” quickly turned to “we” after some #collisionlearning.  More on the “intentional” irony below

Thank you brother @Mayhem for the accountability.

New plan audibled in the park and following COP, we used the 4 corners of ledges included Derkin Wall Crawls, Dips, Step Ups, and Derkins.  Rinse/Repeat X3.  PAX led PLANKORAMA until #six came in.

Mosey down to short garage.  5 Merkins at every Column till the #six.  got to column seven, I think.  6 Minutes of Mary followed with Carolina Dry Docks in between each set.  Usual suspects were in attendance: LBC, heels to heaven, flutter, hello dolly, etc.

Mosey to Shovel Flag for COT

NMM

I started the workout with the word Intentional.  Something I have been stewing on lately in my personal life.  Be intentional today.  Be purposeful today. Welllllllll, a much timelier lesson came todayat my own expense and #cobains (all apologies) #lexicon were expressed to PAX.  Sometimes in life we find ourselves half way down a path and whether on our own or someone/thing intervening causes us to realize that it’s not going right.  And we as leaders MUST have the ability to admit fault, course correct and go down the next path.  Parenting, heated conversations with the M, choice of words, maybe even careers!  How about daily choices- honestly- how long do you go down the wrong direction on a highway before you suck up your pride and turn around?  (what?  too literal?)

Much love to all the brothers this morning.  And for the record- my back is sore and I hate backward bear crawls up the stairs…
