Olympic Swimming at the Pantheon – 8/10/2016

  • QIC: Witch Hunt
  • When: 8/10/2016

  • Posted In: Pantheon

When Italian Job reached out looking for someone to pick up his Q at the Pantheon, I jumped at the chance. Having posted at the Pantheon several times, I knew the reputation and what the Pax expect, so had some trouble filling out the Wienke. However watching the Olympics the night before game me all the inspiration I needed.

Once the cars started rolling in, we had 15 Pax ready to tackle this Olympic inspired workout.

We started by celebrating Michael Phelps winning his 20th and 21st gold medals the night before with 21 merkins. Once that was done we were off.

The Thang

Quick mosey around the outer car loop with some butt kickers and high knees and then circle up.

COP
Wind Mill X10
Moroccan Nightclubs X20
Mountain Climbers X15
Imperial Walkers x15

I threw in 5 burpees between each exercise to really get the heart pumping. Always a crowd pleaser.

Quick mosey to soccer field for some Olympic swimming action:

4×100 Individual Medley

Pax would travel from each soccer goal using 4 different modes of transportation

Broad Jump Burpees (Butterfly)
Backwards Run (Back Stroke)
Lt. Dan’s (Breathestroke)
Sprint (Free Style)

Quick 10 Count and Rinse and Repeat with:

Bear Crawl (Butterfly)
Backwards Run (Back Stroke)
Gorilla Crawl (Breathestroke)
Sprint (Free Style)

Another ten count and we were off to the next event.

4×100 Relay Medley

Pax partnered up and received one coupon each. While one partner performed the exercise the other pattern did Burpee Suicides (one Burpee at each of the 4 cones). All exercises were to an aggregate total of 100. Exercises were:

Coupon Swings X100
Squats X100
Curls X100
Overhead Press X100

We had some time left over so we went to the wall for some BTW. Then we headed to COT.

Great job by all Pax today. A lot of grunting and groaning but no one quit and everyone finished.

All in all, we covered 3.1 miles at a good conversation pace. We took the time to learn a bit about the PAX – who brought them out and how long they’ve been posting. It was a good way to take our minds off the pain we were enduring. Awesome work this morning by everyone. Very proud to call you brothers.

NMM

I’m always humbled to lead this group of #HIM. Each time I Q, I wonder “who am I to lead these men? Why would anyone follow me?” Then I am reminded of a saying I heard years ago. “Evangelism is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread.” You see, we don’t lead for an ego boost. We don’t lead because we want all eyes on us. We lead because we want to share what was first shared with us. That’s why it’s important to launch to new cities. We didn’t know what we were missing until someone shared F3 with us. Now it’s our turn to give it away. Your next chance to do just that is 9/20 as we launch F3 Lancaster. More details to follow.

Under Armour has a new slogan that is getting air time now during the Olympics. “It’s what you do in the dark that puts you in the light.” What we do every morning in the gloom sets a cadence for how we will approach the trials that will appear in the day. Will we ever need burpees in the workplace? Probably not. But getting up at 0 dark 30 to push past our preconceived pain points prepares us for what lies ahead. The discipline we show; the respect for our fellow man – these are the things that make us stand out amongst our peers. We prepare physically to be strong when needed. We build bonds with our brothers so when they need us, we are there. We prepare spiritually for those times when we don’t have the answer. This is what makes F3 different. This isn’t you against your brother; this is you against you – getting stronger every day. Each morning you post prepares you for the day ahead. Keep up the good work. You are stronger today than you were yesterday and will be stronger tomorrow than today. Keep fighting. Keep trying. Keep pushing. What you do in the dark puts you in the light.

Aye!

Off and running again to flagpole, pledge in cadence

Off and running again, COP with shoulders

Off and running again, COP with ABS

Off and running again, COP with legs

Off and running again to basketball courts

Arkloader and suicides over and over and over and over…

It was hot, men got sweaty, it was smelly, some tried, some just look faster because I was slower today…

Crowd pleaser seemed to be starting every suicide with your chest on the ground…I don’t think I made this Q difficult enough…lots of #mumblechatter today, all #HIM out there today, no negative BS.

Sermon Notes:
Talked a quick lesson on the vertical relationship with God and the importance of having quality relationships on your horizontal (this world) relationships, in my worldview you can’t have one without the other.

In F3 it is described this way:
CONCENTRICA: The circular rings formed by a man’s relationships on the Big Ball. Please look it up on the lexicon for a much more articulate definition.

1. First Ring: M (wife)

2. Second Ring: Shorties (children)

3. Third Ring: Shield Lock (brothers in arms)

4. Fourth Ring: Blades (younger men)

5. Fifth Ring: Mammon (work)

Be a better man today than you were yesterday,

13 men joined the sweatfest at GC this am.   Clearly some were thinking they arrived at the wrong AO w/the amount of Rucks and gear in the parking lot.  Great excercise and fellowship this am.  Strong showing by all.  Thanks to Zima and Cornhole for providing extra rucks.

Warm Up by WWL
– Lap around the parking lot followed by SSH, Windmills, Merkins & Squats

Ruck-it-Up; Mosey to church parking lot a short hop away, moving in columns of 2 while carrying coupons of Sandbags, Kettlebells, and ruck plates, emphasis on spacing!

Once there, drop the coupons.  Time for YHC’s favorite ruck warmup to get the heart going.  Catch me if you can.  Partner Up, P1 does a ranger run carrying both his and partners rucks by their handle.  P2 does 5 burpees and sprints to catch him, flip-flop and continue all the way around the parking lot.

Next, P1 performs excercise while P2 runs one side of parking lot, BearCrawl across then lunge walk across, run back, Exercises:  Hand release merkins, the real way with solid, strong form, Squats, followed by 4-Ct flutter kicks.  100 reps of each exercise as a 2-man team.

Running??  There’s no running in rucking?? au contraire

Next, work as a team moving across length of parking out, out and back.  P1 bearcrawls while P2 walks beside w/ruck overhead, flip flop as needed (about half-way for all).

Mosey back to start w/coupons.  Finish at COT w/13 Ruck manmakers.

COT. Announcements: F3 Dad’s camp this weekend, those participating in GORUCK MAFFS7 event this Sat, and Howitzer informed all that he is moving to Mt. Pleasant.  He will be missed!! Great to have Orange Crush and Terminator out with us!

It was a muggy Monday morning in the Fort. Q showed up early so that he could set out an aid for later in the workout. He also was really pumped to see and great the faces of this awesome AO. In his head when they were all walking up with their KB in hand and a smile or smirk on their face that in just 45 -50 minutes from then they would not be smiling but gassed from the work they had just put their bodies through. I cant tell if you can read the enthusiasm that I get from Qing but it is on my face as I write up this backblast.

Before I get into writing about the pain we went through I want to give a shout out to Howitzer. He has been an awesome guy to get to know over the past year or so. I wish him and his family good luck in Chucktown. From what I hear there are some awesome AOs down there so good luck. You will be missed hear in the Fort.

So here is how this thang went down.

Disclaimer- (given in detail since we had a FNG with us)

18 men started out with a short mosey around the parking lot when we got back to the bells we circled up and did the warm up. 20 SSHs, 15 IWs, 15 Mountain Climbers, 15 CDDs, 10 Peter parkers, and 10 parker peters.

Pick up your bell and Mosey to the far end of the parking lot.

Partner up and listen up you did not want to miss the great reveal. I so love the board of pain that I made up a KB board of pain. It went like this. Get to 100 reps of each exercise and move on to the next. while partner 1 works partner to runs to end of lot does 5 bomb jacks and runs back keep switching until time runs out get as far down the board as possible.

  1. Goblet Squats.
  2. Merkin w/ right hand on bell
  3. right arm shoulder press
  4. right arm curl
  5. flutter kicks with the bell
  6. KB swings
  7. merkin with left hand on bell
  8. left arm shoulder press
  9. left arm curl
  10. diamond merkins with hand on bell
  11. Alternating KB lunge
  12. KB Rows right side
  13. KB tricep extensions
  14. KB Rows left side
  15. Russian twists

Pick up bells and partners that were on the ground mosey back to COT light stretch for about the 30 secs we had left. The group the got the furthest made it to # 10 I think. I had so much sweat in my eyes I could not focus on all the groups.

We completed name-o-rama and announcements before naming FNG ( he was busy under a tree. Got the name Splash for a reason. Welcome and look forward to seeing you in the gloom)

You couldn’t handle the SUCK!

  • QIC: Wild Thing (VQ), Royale
  • When: 08/06/2016
  • Pax: Kenyan, Da Vinci, Witch Hunt, Wild Thing (VQ), Royale
  • Posted In: The Deep

Saturdays are already longer workouts then most…but our buddy Witch Hunt likse to make things even harder. So Friday night he throws it out on twitter, “Hey anyone want to ruck before the Deep tomorrow?” I just spent a billion dollars on a GORUCK rucker so I thought it was a fine idea. And somehow he talked Da Vinci and Wild Thing into this nonsense as well…so…the day was almost 2 hours – and here’s how it went.

Show up at The Deep around 5:40am and plant the shovel flag. If you would have asked me 1 1/2 years ago why in the world I would be out of bed on Saturday at 5am…I probably would have told you I didn’t go to sleep the night before! But not these days when you surround yourself with true HIMs.

The four of us gathered and strapped on our rucks. We walked the long way over to the new elementary school to give it a look. They have a newly completed track that Witch Hunt wanted us to recon for this ruck. His suggestion so he’s in charge right? He put together a nice extra credit ruck for us around this new space. On the long stretch of track we walk, on the turns we double time it. After about 30 minutes and 5 laps the sweat was going…and the mubblechatter was excellent. To me it’s one of the best reasons to get out with the men of F3. To finish off our extra credit we partnered up.

1st partner 10 Merkins with ruck on
2nd Partner continues to walk, 1st partner then has to run to catch up. Rinse and repeat for a lap.

So this completed the rucking extra credit, and we moseyed back to the gathering area of the Deep for the 6:30am launch.

One car pulled up and Kenyan joined the four of us. Still better than last week, but I’ve got to get the message out there to more folks!

The Thang

I was one Q for the first half, gave the disclaimer and then we were off.

Long warmup lap around the school, ending in the soccer field

COP
15 CDDs – 15 IWs – 15 Ski Abs – 25 MNCs – 10 Merkins – 25 SSHs – 10 Windmills

We ran over to the front hill for some 11s

Merkins on Top –> Run down the hill –> 1 Plank Jack at Bottom

Up and Down until we reverse to 1 Merkin at Top 10 Plank Jacks at the bottom

This was a lot harder than I thought, and we had a couple ten counts to finish. Poor Kenyan didn’t hear me right, and was doing 10 Merkins each time…that about made up for him missing the rucking session!

Mosey behind the school for a new York favorite of mine. Lt Danger’s! (Thanks Orvis)

Complete Lt Danger’s for about 100 yards.
Lunge – Lunge – Squat – Merkin all the way down

OK I’m done and tired…time for Wild Thing to try out this Q thing!

Wild Thing wants to open with it being the start of training camp for football season. Let’s do some of their drills! The rest of us spill out an un-enthusiastic “YEAH!”

Mosey back to the soccer field for 21s (Maybe I should have conferred with my co-Q, my bad PAX)

21 Merkins sprint across the field 20 LBCs sprint 19 Merkins sprint 18 LBCs…you get the idea down to 1 Merkin

I think we were all ready to pass out, and still had 20 minutes to go.

Wild Thing pulls out Thunderstruck so we can do a few Up – Downs just like the football pros. It went well as expected but hey, no one splashed merlot, I think only 2 of us blacked out.

We’re getting CLOSE to the end so Wild Thing takes us to the wall to relax.

People’s Chair PAX 10 counts, once with right leg lift once with left. Mosey into a circle for

Freddie Mercury’s –> back to the wall –> Hello Dolly’s with Kenyan on count.

That’s it, mosey back to COT

Announcements

Prayers for teachers getting ready to head back to school.

Prayers for my father as he struggles with job loss, new living arraignments and addiction.

Witch Hunt wanted to share praises for this group of PAX. Their were only 5 of us their today, but all five were there at the start of the Deep and would consider it their home AO.

I concurred with Witch Hunt, we’re so very happy that we have the honor of helping bring F3 to Lake Wylie! Spread the word PAX!

Mr. Big Stuff begins flight

Warm up

25 straddle hops, 20 rocking night club, 10 cherry picks, 20 squats, 10 merqins,

Mossied over to practice field. Introduced “Creeping Leopard”. Went from side of field to midway, High Step back, Bear Crawl back to mid way, Lunges back, Bear crawl backwards to midway,

Mossied to picnic tables at the school courtyard and divided into teams of 4. Each team counted off each member 1,2,3 & 4. 1 would run distance to back tennis entrance and back and replace number 2 who was doing dirkins, and 2 would replace 3 who was doing dips on picnic table seats and 3 would replace 4 who was doing leg lifts. 4 would begin to run. We would do this one time with everyone doing each excersise. Then we washed and repeated this one time.

Talked about forgiveness with using the story of Joseph forgiving his brothers who feared him when he came of power and their father passed away.  How we wept in forgiveness and I related this to a personal story of my own in life.

Then mosseyed to back entrance of Tennis Center. Task was to sprint the side length of two tennis courts to the corner while facing Cherry Road, then karaoke to the left on the back baseline of multiple tennis courts outside the fence to the next corner, then Nerd or whatever we call running backwards to the next corner. Then karaoke back to the beginning where we started.  We repeated this after three 10 count rests.

Lastly mosseyed to our AO and cooled down with superman and pulled the ripchord. Side straddle hops.

We had 29 attend with many brothers helping me with my first VQ and I am sure this is not completely correct.
