It was an honor to lead and be a part of the 21 men that tackled The Tavern this morning. I’m amazed to see how quickly this AO has begun to produce numbers like this on a regular basis, especially having only been open for a few weeks now. We really tried to explore the space this morning as there are many different options for the nonsense that we like to get into each morning. Another strong effort by all and more importantly another group effort as the push and pull was evident throughout. Here is the thang:

quick warm up stretching

mosey around the Harris Teeter

20 SSH, 20 IW, 20 MNC, 10 squats, 10 merkins

magazine reload – sprint up the parking lot lane, jog back down the next, one burpee and then rinse and repeat all the way to the other end

curb hops across the front of the store

wheel of merkins – 5 each regular, wide armed, diamond, elbows in, regular (superman to recover between each round)

light pole intervals – shuffles and karioke

retention pond – backwards bear crawl down, merkins, bear crawl back up

light pole intervals – 20 mountain climbers at each, sprint to the next

COT

Thanks for the honor to lead!

Sgt. York

Humility, Part III

  • QIC: Deacon
  • When: 6/23/16
  • Pax: Old Bay, Cerrano, McGyver, Spinal Tap, Riddler, Deacon
  • Posted In: Laces In, Laces Out

Riddler and YHC posted at Laces In. We scratched the boot camp and went to Fort Mill High School’s track for speed training.

Old Bay, Cerrano, McGyver and Spinal Tap went for a 4.5+ mile run.

Riddler shared his testimony which was a powerful story of God’s grace and mercy.

His faithwalk demonstrates how God can do more with a humble heart.

A man who lacks humility is arrogant with a hard heart. How can God plant seeds with their hard soil?

A man with humility is grateful with an open mind and heart. God plants seeds that bear fruit with their soft soil.

James 4:10 ~ Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

19 PAX, many new faces to YHC which continues to amaze YHC in the power of F3 and the effect that is has on our lives, our loved ones, and the community.

Outlaw has is VQ and did a great job leading us in our warmup and YHC finished it out with a 2/3rds workout, at least that is what Backdraft pointed out, with Tabata, sprints, and some other goodness.

Warm Up – Outlaw took the helm and led us through a cycle of COP.

SSH x 20 IC
Cherry Pickers x 12IC
Merkins x 12 IC
May have done Squats as well.

6 – Smurf Jacks
7 – Monkey Humpers

Had a lot of mumblechatter throughout, get seeing the PAX push through.

Sprint to the opposite side of the field, ~110 yards, 10 Burpees. Repeato

How does a Godly man approach Financial Responsibility

  • QIC: Chicken Hawk and Repeat
  • When: 07/29/2016
  • Pax: All PAX Invited
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

Where: Eternal Church (1787 Pleasant Rd, Fort Mill, SC 29708)

When: Starting at 6:05 sharp

Money is one of the major contributing factors to relationships issues in our marriages, a main factor that can lead to depression and a consistent source of conflict between friends and family. This convergence is not about solving debt issues, or providing a 5-step process to financial freedom.    This convergence is about understanding that money matters are a universal challenge that all men are confronted with and to be comforted that you are not alone in money matters.  We will hear from #HIMs that have perspective on healthy approaches to manage the challenges that are caused by money.

What is the Financial responsibility of a godly man? It goes beyond the expectation of ensuring that our family’s basic needs for nourishment, shelter and security are provided for. Financial responsibility of a godly man requires humility, discipline and wisdom to be good stewards of the financial resources that we have been given custody of. We must be humble enough to recognize that our finances are a gift from God and not from our own doing. We must be disciplined enough to not become a slave to our finances caused from excessive desires that leads to debt. We must be wise enough to discern how we use our Finances to extend the kingdom of God.

The objective of this 3rd F convergence is to engage as godly men in the topic of financial responsibility. We will have Pax as part of a panel share how they have been impacted by financial decisions and the role of money in their lives. We will also have a call to action and resources that  you will be directed to that can be leveraged based on your need.

How can we be better Fathers? and add burpesides

I was excited to get back to the new AO in Clover at Clover Middle School. Did some recon the night before with my boys, and we played a little football on the amazing field they have at the school. So I figured we’d spend most of our time at the field Wednesday morning.

I arrived at 5am to set up some cones…and there were already several cars in the back parking lot. Come to find out F3 is not alone in thinking this AO is great. A woman’s group meets there on Wednesday mornings for field work as well! I talked it over with their clip board holder (the only guy with the group) and we both agreed to use the field from 5-6am.

Went back up to the parking lot and started seeing our PAX pull in. Great to have HIMs like Cornhole, Apache and Dry Dock come from so far away to support this newer AO!

We hit 5:15am so I said the disclaimer, and we took a lap around the parking lot for some dynamic stretching including high knees, butt kickers, karaoke, and toy soldiers.

Circle up for COP
25x Side Straddle Hops
20x Imperial Walkers
25x Moroccan night clubs
20x Mountain Climbers
10X Merkins
15x Carolina Dry Docks

Quick thought around focusing on how you can be a better father today then you were yesterday.

Mosey to the football field

Time for “Burpesides”
There were cones set up every 20 yards.
Start with 1x Burpee at the Goal line.
Run 20 yards do 5x Burpees
Run back to Goal line do 1x Burpee
Run to the 40 yard line 5x burpees…etc, until you run all the way to the other goal line and finish 5 burpees
When all said and done, we did 30 burpees and ran 500 yards

Just like these #HIMs typically do, when complete those at the front went back and continued to put in work with the 6. The PAX just keeps pushing each other!

Once we all hit the goal line we finished with 25 LBCs in cadence.

My 10 count was based on a post-father’s day message. In short, I’m a BAD father. I’m quick to anger, don’t put in the quality time that I should with my kids. Like many of the PAX, I’m the main bread winner in my family, and I used to assume that this was the #1 most important thing I needed to be as “Dad”. Not correct. Be present, put the phone or the iPad down. Play dolls with your daughter and legos with your son. Or baseball, or F3 Dads, whatever…but your time is the most valuable thing you can give to them!

Time to get back to work…

Next field exercise
Bear Crawl 10 yards
20x Flutter Kicks
Bear Crawl 10 yards
20x Freddy Mercury’s
Rinse and repeat until we make it the full 100 yards to the other goal line

The message I had next was related to your kids. They hear and see everything. And they usually remember the bad moments more. The yelling, swearing, disappointments stick harder than the good times. Try and set the right example at all times.

Time to Mosey! So we left the field and ran up towards the other open field behind the school. At that field they have this great two step concrete riser. Each step is about waist high. Great alternative to a large hill for some 11s!

11s
At bottom do 10 Bombjacks
Hop the two ledges to the top
Do 1 Ranger Merkin
Hop back down

Continue this pattern until you’ve reversed the count to 10 Ranger Merkins at the top and 1 Bombjack at the bottom.

Final 10 Count message:
Put your M on a pedestal for your 2.0s to see. Complement her, support her, thank her. Remember they see and hear everything? Make it positive, and we know that it’s not always easy but YOU need to make that effort! Teach your daughters how a man needs to treat a woman properly, and teach your son’s the proper way to treat a woman. They will continue this pattern into their own relationships in the future.

Mosey back up to COT

Announcements:
F3 Dads – WEP in June the Patriot in July
F3 Picnic

Prayers and Praises:
Pray for Spud and his family during their loss
Prayers for all those that have lost loved ones

Final Thoughts:
None of these Fatherhood ideas are mine…I’ve gathered these ways to be a better Dad from the messages shared by other PAX all over the Fort over the last several months and meetings. But I’m trying to be better and I take their words to heart!

A few notes on the PAX today:

Orvis came back from a 3 week vacation and brought his 2.0 “Goalkeeper” (age 10) to this difficult workout. Goalkeeper barely broke a sweat and kept up with the men!

Apache worked his magic and had my Q promoted to 17 different regions, on multiple technology platforms, and then started tweeting MORE at 3am… I’m always glad to see Apache and his positive energy. Real pleasure seeing him so much in York and Lake Wylie!

Villa has been going at this for around a month now? Glad to see he keeps coming back for more, and he doesn’t quit! Keep pushing it brother! You’ll be leading in no time (I’ll make sure of that…)

Dry Dock lead the way and kept up with Apache, he’s one of the first guys to turn and pick up the six with some positive reinforcement. Great job today, and good work sharing your stories and helping solidify the Fatherhood message I was trying to share. I appreciate you coming out to support the Clover group!

Cornhole, respect! I think he made the longest drive today…and passed two other AOs to get to the Maze! About 30 minutes later he showed up in Clover, ready to roll! This man is one of the PAX I consider a mentor, and I always know the PAX will get help from a veteran like him. At the end of COT he gave me a nice little memento for completing the #22Kill pushup awareness challenge related to veteran suicide. He’s always thinking about others!

An honor to Lead,

Royale

Not your Typical running backblast

  • QIC: Longshanks
  • When: 06/22/2016

Typical running backblast – route, names of PAX, mileage. Done

This BackBlast -anything but that, mostly cuz a dog showed up.

YHC was greeted this morning at Clydesdales by 20 other PAX and a FNG dog. A disclaimer was given to the PAX and after being told what my plan was, other options were given as well.

Option 1 – Team Anchorman – 3.0-3.5 mile run at a nice conversation pace. The true Clydesdales. Anchorman said they went around the neighborhood and got around 3 miles in.

Option 2 – Team Zima – named team Zima cuz Zima can’t handle YHC telling him what to do. So he rounded up about 4-5 guys and made a 4 to 4.5 mile loop around Baxter including 1 trip up Gardenia hill.

Option 3 – Team Longshanks – All that was told was that we would run to Gardenia Hill and run 30 second hill repeats. Our route was up Market, around the Community Center/Clubhouse, down and up Stratford Run, and down Gardenia Hill. Once PAX were there I explained the 30 second hill repeat. All you got for 30 seconds up the hill. Slow Mosey back down the hill 10-20 seconds of rest. Repeat for 8 total. On the 8th repeat, we finished all the way at the top of the hill. Once the 6 finished at the top we walked one block, then continued up Gardenia, turned left on Mills, left on Sutton and then right on Market. Finished right around 4 miles.

Annoucements – F3 Dads, Childrens Attention Home, F3 Picnic, Star Command convergence, check your weekly newsletter and get on twitter

Prayers – continued prayers for Spud, other who are sick and hurting, injured PAX.

Moleskin
1. Thanks to Gridlock for the opportunity to lead Clydesdales. Not your typical run, but I think its important to change things up to improve, especially with BRR coming up.
2. Lots of comments from the PAX that did the hills about not being able to do that by themselves. I agree. That hill is 2 blocks from my house and I never run up it alone.
3. Speaking of hills and not going it alone, that’s true for life too. How many times do we face an uphill battle and don’t ask for help cuz we are too embarrassed. Or we Don’t think we will make it up the hill. Or we use all of our energy getting up he hill, that when we reach the top, we are too tired to do anything else. Thats what your brothers are for. To help you get up to the top of that hill, when you started at the bottom.
4. Zima. Seriously you kill me. Can think up all this crazy CSAUP stuff, but can’t handle some hills?
5. Sasquatch brought his dog. And his Dog is a beast too. Gave him the name CC for Cat Catcher. Almost had one that was hiding underneath a car at Mills and Gardenia.

Longshanks out!!

Light Run Heavy Shoulder day at Pantheon

  • QIC: Gekko
  • When: 06/22/16
  • Pax: Bear Grylls, Aquaman, Rooney, Package, Howitzer, OSHA, Sputnick,
  • Posted In: Pantheon

YHC and 7 HIM defended on the Pantheon today – the site Q was off running somewhere, but no worries we carried on without him. It’s always great to meet some of the newer PAX(sputnik & OSHA). No FNGs the disclaimer was given, along with an additional disclaimer that due to the Q’s evening plans of bike ride and trail run I was going to selfishly limit the leg work, and we’re off. Mosey around the parking lot with some dynamic warm ups(no skipping).

COP included SSH, Apollo Ono, Mountain climbers, Ski Abs, Plankorama, Seal jacks, SSH

Mosey to the “ampatheater”   where we would do an ab exercise bear crawl to the first level, backward bear crawl to the second level and repeat the ab exercise followed by a crab walk back to the bottom.  Ab exercises consisted of LBC, Box Cutters, Crunchy Frog, Hello Dolly(for Bear Grylls)

Mosey to the freshly watered soccer field(note to self Package hates wet grass) lots of comments about how well the grass is growing. 2 rounds of Makhtar N’Diaye circle(Pax circles in plank, one runs the perimeter of the circle while others do Makhtar N’Diaye, each Pax has a turn to run around the circle. Cool down lap around the field and then a fun round of Jack Webb, always fun to see first timers on this one. After another cool down lap, circle up for a few more ab exercises, Weezy Jeffersons, Pretzel Crunches.

Times up head to COT

Announcements

F3 Dads on Sat, Children’s attention home Fri & Sat

Prayers for Spud and family and for Aquaman’s 2.0 who is away at camping struggling a little.

Closed out  with a word on humility. Being Humble is not something that we can just try hard to be, Being humble has to be the fruit of us placing ourselves under something(God and His Word). Humble is something we become from the inside out it is not a behavior modification.

We finished up with a round of Blocktonamo – Check out the Lexicon for explanation

We circled back up in the parking lot for a little 3rd F.  I explained to the PAX that the exercises were picked for a reason.  In my line of work, great teamwork and great leadership can make all the difference in making money or losing money.  I come from a strong line of Him’s.  My great grandfather was a local farmer and ran one of the local cotton gins.  It was located on the corner of Herlong and Ebeneezer Road (another story in itself).  My grandfather was a WWII fighter pilot.  He flew 13 missions in the P51D Mustang.  He came back and started Matthews Construction company in which my dad has since taken over.  I now have the privilege of continuing that legacy.  Growing up, I was groomed to lead and taught that teamwork makes all the difference.  One thing my Dad has taught me is a great leader doesn’t create followers…he creates other leaders.  He taught me to be the first in the trenches and the last one out…to lead by example.  Jesus Christ is the perfect example of this type of leader.  He leads us to the Father even though we do not deserve it.  Ephesians 2:8-10 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”  But it doesn’t end there.  We are also sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. God makes every effort to lead us to Himself, to save us.  He knows we are not strong enough to make it on our own so he doubles back and runs with us.  He never leaves His PAX behind.

What made Jesus a great leader on earth was not the number of followers, or the great teaching…Jesus was Humble.  So humble that the King of Kings washed the feet of his followers. Jesus not only knew how to lead…he knew how to serve.  That is the kind of leaders we are expected to be…in our marriages, in our kids lives, at our jobs and in our churches.

I closed with this thought…. In F3 I have often thought Faith should be the 1rst F.  I am not suggesting any change..just bare with me.  I explained to the PAX that if they will put faith before all else, they will be the leader that God expects us to be in every area of their lives.

COT prayer request – several deaths of friends and family’s of the PAX – Sorry can’t remember details.

  • 100 Merkins
  • 200 LBCs
  • 300 CDD
  • 400 Squats

There’s only a few times a workout can shut down mumble chatter from Apache and this one I feel may have done the job.

Plank up and about 20 SSH waiting on the 6 to finish.  Thanks to the PAX for sweeping for the 6.

After a few 10 counts to catch our breath I shared with the PAX the verse 1 Timothy 4:8 (ESV) – For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

I explained a little about the 3 F’s for the newer PAX and how if it weren’t for the 2nd F I would have quit this madness a long time ago. Also how in the past year the 3rd F has been strengthened in my life from help of F3 brothership and of course Sky Q.  YHC was out on IR for 4 weeks and I thank all the PAX who wouldn’t let me slip and fall back, encouraging me to get back out when I could muster the strength to do so. With the 400 squats and running the stairs, our legs were on fire! (at least mine were) As a reminder your body and things in life will always fail you, but Jesus will never fail you… EVER.

Mosey to the Johnson Parking Lot for a Popeye favorite

  • Bear Crawl Merkins – 10 Parking lines
  • Run Back to start
  • Lt. Dans approx 20 Parking Lines
