School’s Out! Time for F3 Dads!

  • QIC: Cake Boss and Senator Tressel
  • When: 06/06/15
  • Pax: Many dads and many kids - about 75 total. Sorry - had technical difficulties and couldn't get everyone's name out today.
  • Posted In: Alcatraz, The Fort, The Reservation

The first edition of F3 Dads for 2015 was held at Walter Elisha Park on Saturday.    Approximately 75 Dads and 2.0’s  joined together for some fun in the sun to kick off the summer.  Here is what they did:

The Thang:

Cake Boss at Q

Mosey the path for drill bits warm up
First stop-10 squats
Second stop-10 Piggieback squats
Run down hill across field
Third stop- 15 SSHs
Fourth stop- 10 Piggieback merkins

Line up on tree line
2.0 sprint to 3rd tree and back
Dads sprint to 3rd tree and back
2.0s bear crawl then sprint and back
Dads bear crawl then sprint and back

Big COP
10 imperial walkers
10 Piggieback squats
10 LBCs
2.0s run around COP while dads do 10 merkins

Hand off to Senator

Divide Pax into 6 groups and line up for a 2.0 carry relay race

Dad’s carry their 2.0 across the field to the stopping point and return to the start.  When all the 2.0’s have been moved to the other side, dads carry dads to the other side.  First group to get everyone across wins

What time is it Mr. Wolf?

Assign 6-8 dads to be wolves and the rest of the group as sheep.   Put about 20 yards between the sheep and the wolves.   The sheep ask “What time is it Mr. Wolf?”  The wolves respond with a time (1-12 o’clock), and the sheep take  the corresponding number of steps (1-12) toward the wolves. This repeats with the sheep asking, ‘What time is it Mr. Wolf?’, and the wolves responding with a time.  Finally, if the wolves respond with “Lunchtime”, the wolves turn around and try to catch the sheep.  The sheep that are caught become wolves.  Continue until all the sheep have been caught.

Mosey to the hill for Run Up and Roll Down

Run up the hill, do one merkin, and then roll down the hill.  Repeat two more times if you can (most could not).  Rolling down the hill makes you dizzy!

Count off by 10, and get with your group for Crack the Whip.  Everyone in your group hold hands. to form a whip.  The person in front starts running in a ziz-zag and pulls the group with him.  The person at the back of the line gets whipped around.  We did this and made our way back to a shady spot for COT.

Moleskin

Wow!  What a blast to co-lead the first F3 Dads session of the summer!    Big fun was had with a large, enthusiastic, group of 2.0’s and their dads today.   It is truly quality time spent with your children when you can use them as weight vests or ruck sacks,  and get a great workout together.   I love F3 Dads because you get to meet the 2.0’s that you hear about during workouts and at coffeteria, plus it introduces your kids to something that you hope they will want to keep doing as they get older.

A few shout outs:

To Mrs. Cake Boss for making the emergency run of freeze pops when we found out we were short.

To those Dads who carried both of their children at the same time during the 2.0 carry relay.  T-claps!

To those that rolled down the hill all three times without splashing merlot/grape juice – impressive!

To Ross Thompson, aka Bomber (2.0 of Flat Tire),  for leading the closing prayer during COT.  When I Q’d my first F3 workout, the thing I was most worried about was saying a prayer out loud at the end. To hear a young child do it in front of that large group, with such poise and confidence,  is very inspiring to me.  Well done, young man.  You made your daddy proud.

F3 Dads continues next Saturday, June 13, 9:30am,  at Walter Elisha Park.  Don’t miss it!

Announcements:

Support Alex’s lemonade stand in Baxter to raise money for children with Cancer.  This runs every year in Baxter.

F3 Dads – The Fort – Alcatraz – Rock Hill – Indian Land – Pre-Blast

F3 Dads is coming to WEP June 6th, 13th, and 27th!

What is F3 Dads?
An opportunity for fathers and their kids to spend time bonding with each other and other PAX while participating in an F3 (Lite) workout.

Where and when will this workout take place?
-WEP
-June 6th, 13th, and 27th from 9:30 – 10:30
-This will allow the PAX to attend their preferred Saturday workout, enjoy post-workout fellowship, and gather their 2.0’s.

Who can attend?
This is an opportunity for The Pax and their 2.0’s, boy or girl.  There is not an age requirement.  I am guessing that the majority of the kids will be between kindergarten and 8th grade.  This is also a great opportunity to “headlock” men and introduce them to F3.

What will the format of the workouts be?
The workouts will be similar to F3 workouts, but lighter and with kid-friendly exercises / activities.  After warming up there will be more fun exercises / activities such as Relay Races, 2.0 Carries, etc.  Each F3 Dad workout will end in a COT and prayer.

What about F3 Names for the 2.0s?
In order to save time, think of a name for your 2.0 before the workout.  They can participate in the name-o-rama or you can share it for them. Jellyfish and T-Rex are the F3 names of my 2.0s.

What about Naming new FNGs (New members of the PAX)?
We will name them in the COT!  2.0s will enjoy that.  Remember Pusher’s church rule.

Questions???
You can DM me on Twitter (@F3Rooney) or DM White Lighting on Twitter (@WeaThree)

OBT shared some thoughts with the Pax about how he let his workouts slip this winter. What brought him out of the funk was teaching others to lead FNGs when we leap to other locales. That day fired him up. He told us to find the thing that gets you out of the fartsack in the morning. The world says to take the blue pill. Brush it off and take the red pill.

Hand off to Dredd for a quick BOM. Jumped right into:

  • SSH
  • 10 count followed by 10 Flying Squirrels OYO
  • 9 count followed by 9 Flying Squirrels OYO

Dredd called another Switzer

  • Rule 3 – leave no man behind

COT

A 95 man namerama took some time. That number doesn’t count the men that bailed at the halfway mark. Great BOM closeout by Pusher.

Naked Moleskin

One year ago, The Patriot was launched with 34 men – 6 from Rock Hill. Since then, we have routinely had 100 plus men spread over 4 Rock Hill AOs. I am humbled and proud to share the pain and praises with you all. Thanks OBT and Dredd for starting this whole thing and for F3 The Fort for bringing it south of the river. Also, congrats Santini on being named CN2 Athlete of the Week. Burgundy brought the camera crew to spread the word on what F3 means and why we do it. Santini had a good impromptu word for the men in the area. We are here to plant and grow groups to increase male leadership in the community. The credit goes to everyone who gets up to workout together. Don’t use the excuse that you aren’t in good enough shape to be out here. We all got in this shape because we continued to show up for our F3 brothers.

Man Up at Man U!

I’m not sure what Tinker Toy has in mind for tomorrow, but I can guarantee it will be tough. Only I am dumb enough to schedule him for the full 45 minutes. This won’t be for the weak, so man up, get up, and show up for a beating that is worth the price of admission!

GET READY PAX as The Fort will once again be hosting the annual Memorial Day MURPH – BUT this year we will be adding some friendly PAX competition.

Normal morning workouts will still commence at their respective AO’s but this will be your opportunity to either #DoubleDown or come out PUMPED and READY for the MURPH.

REASON: LT. Michael P. Murphy (SEAL) was the officer-in-charge of a four-man SEAL element in support of Operation Red Wings. Murphy is credited with risking his own life to save the lives of his teammates. Not Just A Hill…It’s A Dragon’s Back

  • QIC: Maximus
  • When: 04/04/15
  • Pax: Audit, Spiderman, Cerrano, One-Niner, Ringer, Gunny, Atlas, The Beast, Google Maps, Mayo, Chaser, CSPAN, Zima, Pebbles
  • Posted In: The Fort, The Reservation

Indian Land is known for challenging each and every member of the PAX. It doesn’t matter if you’re the most fit or bringing up the six, you’re in for it when you show up here. I was a little jumpy in tweeting out my Q several weeks ago when I looked at the schedule incorrectly but when my day actually arrived to lead the PAX at the Reservation, I knew I had better BRING IT.

What made it worse, or better depending on how you approach it, was that the 30mins of OCR training preceding my Q eliminated the need for a warm up full of SSH, Windmills, IWs, etc. The fact that I almost splashed Merlot writing the Weinke had me thinking this should be good. So, with that said, we were off.

Jog around the bus lane over to the bus parking lot for a tribute to Audit by starting with 2mins of BURPEES!
Instead of doing our normal cadence of warmup exercises, we held the following exercises in the down position:
10 Second Holds: Low Squat, CDD, Diamond Merkins, Left Lunge, Right Lunge
20 Second Holds: Boat (Just boat, no canoe), Legs at 6″, Paratrooper…REPEAT.

Time to pay tribute to the epic hill known as THE DRAGON’S BACK:
Line up shoulder to shoulder at the base of the hill. Starting at one end, each man will run up and down the hill twice. While runner is running, the remaining PAX alternates between 20 Merkins & 20 Monkey Humpers. Once the runner finishes, he joins in with the PAX and the next man starts his hill climbing.

Once everyone finishes, we move to Rd 2 which as the PAX running up the hill once. This time, the PAX alternates between 20 Freddie Mercuries and 20 Mountain Climbers. Once finished, the PAX reverse bear crawls up 1/3 of the hill and forward bear crawls the remaining 2/3. REPEAT. Then just an old fashioned sprint up the hill.

Mosey to the Playground:
10 Pull Ups & 25 Dips then run a lap.
10 Pull Ups & 10 Jump Tucks then run a lap
10 Pull Ups & 25 Dips then run a lap

Mosey to one of the many walls (after all, we’d hate to see these walls go to waste)
10 Donkey Kicks into B2W for a 10ct. REPEAT
Impromptu Peter Parkers
Find a slightly shorter wall for 10 mountain climbers then 10 muscle ups (these looked better on paper)

Bring it in for AB LAB:
Windshield Wipers, Toe Touches, Russian Twists, Parker Peters, and one last set of MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS.

Announcements: CAH 4pm today. 4/11-4/12 Races. 4/18 & 4/15 Gastonia Support, 5/2 Rock Hill Anniversary @ Patriot with OBT/Dredd, 5/25 MURPH at NaFO High School. Take note of CSPANs warning of Monday’s shenanigans at Rock Hill. Take note of the new 0630 start time for The Reservation on 4/18.

Prayer Requests: Find a place to attend Church Easter Sunday. It’s about remembering and celebrating what Christ did on the cross for us; paying the price that we deserved. The PAX on a mission trip heading to Colombia, South America with Forest Hill Church. Prayers for the fundraising, fellowship, families and conversations.

ALWAYS AN HONOR

Going into this morning it appeared that the Tribesman were going to be lacking in numbers due to baby deliveries, Spring Break and I really dont know what Beast, Bounty Hunter, Opie and Sharknados excuses are but I am sure they are good.

Anyways, as YHC was perusing the twitersphere yesterday I saw that the SOBs were planning an attack on The Arsenal. What looked like 4-5 PAX quickly grew to 10 Thursday morning. Of course, Pebbles leading the launch and the majority of this WO – he gave us all nothing less than death or a good scalping – too far? nah, this is Indian Land.

The Thang:

Run to behind elementary school for a quick warmup

  • 40 Squats

  • 3 times up the hill – Ring the Bell
  • Repeat but this time add in 5, 10 and 15 Burpees

Pebbles hands over the baton to One-Niner

Since YHC only had 10min left, what to do, what to do…hmmm…why not more running and Burpees

Becoming one of my favorites since Gunny introduced this to the PAX a few weeks ago at the Coop.

Mosey over to Dragons Crack (yes, dragons crack – the hill beside the practice field. Crack refers to the concrete drainage ditch splitting the hill) for a little Mucho Chesto Burpee Run Fest.

  • Run to the top – 10 Burpees
  • Run to the bottom – 10 Right Staggered Arm Merkins
  • Run to the top – 10 Burpees
  • Run to the bottom – 10 Left Staggered Arm Merkins

COT – wait we are not done!

  • LBC’s until six arrives, once six arrives – cadence to 10
  • 10 Freddie Mercury’s
  • 5 Burpees

AND DONE!

Very much appreciated the SOB PAX for coming and giving Pebbles and YHC an opportunity to continue to push ourselves and those that we led this morning. Great group of guys and hope to see the SOB PAX out in Indian Land more often.

Prayers for the unspoken and for those that recently had little ones. Hope to see all the IL PAX back out soon.

One-Niner out.

DBES Tour of Bells, Coupons, and OCR

  • QIC: The Beast
  • When: 03/30/15
  • Pax: Huckelberry, One-Niner, Opie, Pebbles
  • Posted In: The Reservation

Pondering the eve before my first Q at the new AO, I felt it prudent to scout the location. While on tour I realized there was a great wealth of opportunity to explore around. Seeing an opportunity to take the PAX on a OCR tour through the woods, I used the time to mark out a path through the woods with flags. This meant ample planning for running through in near dark, making sure to clear out any logs that might be in the way.

COP Warmup
50 SSH
25 IW
25 MC
25 Windmills

Kettlebells
40 – 1 or 2 arm swings (Russian or American style)
20 – Goblet squats
20  plank rows (each side)
25 Russian Twists
1 other to be named kettlebell move

Coupon Time
Depart from the DBES flag pole and head out for some mosey. Down to the creekside woods. Pick up the stashed log, back up the hill and mosey down the road. 20 group shoulder presses before dropping the coupon off for later use by the upper retention pond.

OCR Time
Mosey back to the woods by the creek. Follow the white flags through the woods, stop off at the rock pile and do 25 curls each arm with a boulder. Back onto the course following the flags, across the creek, and over to the rock pile. Pick up a large rock, sprint up the hill, 25 overhead presses, sprint back down. Sprint back up the hill with the rock, 25 overhead tricep extensions. Sprint back down to the rock pile and drop things off.

Follow the flags along the retention wall, over the culvert to the retention wall low side. Climb up 6 feet to the top of the wall, hand over hand stepping down the retention wall. Sprint up the hill and circle back around to the coupon dropped earlier

Coupon Take 2
Pick up the log and return it to where we get it from. Before dropping it off, 25 group squats. Return the coupon.

Mosey back to the school entrance, OYO pull ups, one pull up on each of stone pillars, 16 in total. Land back at the flagpole for some dealer’s choice ab-o-rama.

Nake Man Moleskin
Thanks to the PAX for trusting me on the adventure through the woods. All-in-all we fared well on the adventure and had a nice mix of strength, team, and cardio.

Congrats go out to Atlas and Ringer with recent 2.0 additions.
