The Hive was buzzing with Burden

  • QIC: DawgPound

  • Posted In: The Fort, The Hive

11 PAX showed up to carry extra burden an extra long way (although they didn’t know that yet).  YHC asked PAX to bring extra kettle bells.  This was to represent the burden that we all carry, daily, which can build up to seem too much sometimes.  Disclaimer to the FNG and mozy.

The Thang:

PAX to pick up all extra bells of various sizes and mozy around to the new front entrance of Fort Mill High.  Share the burden and help each other out.  Someone commented within the first 50 feet, “this is almost nice having two bells evens the weight out better.”  I think most of us thought the same thing…. untill another 50 feet passed and our forearms started burning.  Continue around the school and circle up under the lights of the new entrance for a warm up.

MESSAGE:  -“Some people believe that God won’t give you more than you can handle.”  At this point I believe I heard “Oh great” and other forms of what’s coming next?

All exercises to be 4 count together in cadence

WARMUP:

-Side Straddle Hop -20

-Moroccan Night Clubs -20

-Couch Crunch, On your back, cross legs (like on the couch), foot to floor, (Rt elbow to Rt Knee) -10 -switch   This required some mental effort to figure out which way to twist and what really was going on.  No….it’s not like the crunch you hear while eating chips on the couch at home.

-Imperial Walkers W/bell above head -10  Hey, why not? and no, I don’t expect you to touch your elbow to your knee.

-Coasting Bicycle Crunch, on your back, one knee up, the other leg 6 inches (Rt elbow to Lt knee) -10 -switch  Again, conversation about “where does coasting bicycle come from?” and confusion about the coasting part (just picture the position of your legs).  These two modified crunches turned out to be hard to count to as the Q.  Too much air going out and not enough time for a breath.

MOZY back to cars, bring the extra bells…. and let’s stop half way because this burden (50lbs of bells) is really a lot to carry.  10 count x2 and mozy.

MORE MESSAGE: “God does not imply that he won’t let you be stressed beyond what you can bear (can’t catch my breath), or challenged beyond your ability, (breath) or pushed beyond your threshold.  (wow I’m winded) In reality, God gives you more than you alone can bear, all the time.”

Couple workouts then Fast Money (carry the bell like you stole it)

-Side lunge Press w/bell -10 (L and R)

-Plank Row -10 (each side)

-Protractor w/bell above to the L, R and Center, -6in,45,90 (2-3 cycles each position of bell)

-Fast Money, Bells at Chest. Extra bells go with us and take turns, share the burden.

MORE MESSAGE:  “It’s only when you can’t bear the load that the strength of Christ kicks in…  He becomes everything you need. He will help carry you and your burden through tough times.”

-2 handed curls -10

-Tri extensions -10

-Clean and Press. -10 (each side)

-Fast Money, Bells Above head, Yes, extra burden goes with us.

-Halo -10 each direction OYO

-Around the world -10 each direction  OYO

-figure 8s -10 each direction  OYO

I ran out of Weinke so Dealers Choice all the way around.  I believe we had diamond merkins, single hand curls, upright rows, shoulder press, run to the second light and back (various versions x3ish)  and some others that I can’t remember because my burden got the best of me.

-Pick up the bells one more time for the final message.  “Christ provides support and strength in every area of our lives. Find your burden in your life and ask God for the strength to carry it.  We’re all here to help each other out, and together, with Christ, we can carry the burden and become stronger/better men.”

Prayers for safe travels, injured PAX recovery, major health issues with those around us and family struggles.

I enjoyed the opportunity for my VQ, thank you to Longshanks for throwing me on the schedule and THANK YOU to all the PAX that showed up and helped contribute when I ran short.

There is NO burden that is too much to handle, you just need to find the support that helps carry you through.

I pulled in to Chik-Fil-a at 5 after 5.  I was worried by the empty lot, but I was excited that the rain had finally stopped.  Next thing I knew the PAX began to shuffle in.  One FNG was present (Welcome Inferno), the disclaimer was delivered and away we went.  Now this AO is entitled Slow Burn, I decided to eliminate the slow and focus only on the burn.

The Thang:

  1.  First we moseyed to Lowes, stopping for some SSH as we waited on the Six.  Then we used a guard rail for a set of 15 Derkins OYO
  2. We continued around Lowes and circled up in the front parking lot.  We did each of the following 15x Seal Jacks, 10x Windmills, 15x Carolina Dry docks, 20x Mountain climbers, 3x Sphinx/Six-inches
  3. Mosey over to Baxter Bunch Playhouse for some fun.  Partner up, size does not matter.  One partner circles the building, while the other partner does the following 100x Mericans, 200x Squats, 300x LBCs, 400x Flutter kick single count.  Switching partners each time.
  4. Grab some wall.  Two sets of wall sits/ Balls to the wall combos.  5 shoulder presses on last BTTW.
  5. Line up in Front of Charanda’s for Sprint Drills: Sprint 1 50% down jog back, Sprint 2 75% down/ jog back, Sprint 3 90% down/ Jog back, Sprint 4 110% down and continue to COT.

Broncos, Bets, Burpees Beatdown

  • QIC: Longshanks
  • When: 11/04/2015
  • Pax: CSPAN, Chaser, Bing, Puddles, Bart (FNG), Fishsticks, Hauschka, Royale, High Life, Longshanks (QIC), Atlas (runner), Cerrano (runner)
  • Posted In: Pantheon

Despite the promise of Burpees (some of us more than others), 10 of The Fort’s finest (plus 2 runners) descended upon Pantheon for a Broncos QB’s beatdown.  1 FNG was present so a more thorough disclaimer was given.  Luckily Chaser (F3 The Fort’s Law expert) was present and noted that the disclaimer was good enough.

Before proceeding to The Thang, a little backstory is needed.  This weekend CSPAN put out a little friendly wager to some of us Packers fans amongst the PAX.  Real Simple. Loser does Burpees. Total amount of points scored.  Luckily the game was fairly low scoring (unlike the Clemson-NC State game – think a few people owe 97 burpees, yikes!!)

THE THANG

3 of the PAX (YHC, High Life, and Royale) knocked out 39 burpees each while CSPAN leads the group in some Plankarama (3 out of 10 are Packers fans, I thought we were in the Carolinas, where are all the Panthers fans?, and its a good year). Once all 3 completed the required burpees to settle the bet (Royale wasn’t even in the original bet but did it anyways as a Packers fan, true #HIM), we moseyed a short distance and circled up for warmup.

Warmup – SSH x 12, Windmills x 12, Imperial Walkers x 12, Hillbilly Walkers x 12 (all IC)

Next the board of “(in)significant Broncos QB’s of the 2000’s was revealed (starting QB’s from Elway-Manning that had a significant amount of starts)

Jersey number       Name    Wins

14        Brian Griese              27

16        Jake Plummer           39

6          Jay Cutler                 17 (did he really win that many?)

8         Kyle Orton                 12

15       Tim Tebow                 9

So here is how the board works.  Each round 2 exercises are given.  One for the jersey number, one for the wins.  Jersey number completed at one stop sign, run 75 yards to other stop side and complete the wins exercise run back.  Do this for all 5 players each round.  When getting to Jay Cutler, run backwards (cuz that what the offense does when he’s charge…goes backwards).  Once each full round is completed, plankarama until the 6 is in.

Round 1 – players Number – Merkins, players wins – Squats

Round 2 – players number – burpees, players wins – SSH

Round 3 – players number – Carolina Dry Docks, players wins – calf raises

Round 4 – players number – Dips, players wins – LBC’s

So 59 of each exercise for players number, 104 for the wins

Finished with some Ab Lab of Flutter kicks x 12 (IC), Chopsticks x 12 (IC) and Protractor.

COT and BOM

Announcements – CSPAN has posted a list of important dates from now until January.  Sign up for Christmas Party or we risk losing location due to not enough couples (FYI-last year was a blast!!), CAH this Saturday, Gladiator Games December 12th.

Naked Man’s Moleskin

  • Thanks to Zima for putting me on the Pantheon schedule.  Great to meet/see some of our Tega Cay/Alcatraz PAX that I don’t get to see that often.  These guys are beast’s and work hard.
  • Welcome to FNG Bart.  Alabama fan, named after Bart Starr (famous Packer and Crimson Tide)
  • Great having CSPAN actually show up for one of my Q’s, I guess when you owe him, he comes quickly to receive (re-read and then do 10 bombjacks).  Kudos to Chaser for posting again. Kotter of the year nominee.
  • Great seeing Cerrano and Atlas as they finished up their run. 45 miuntes of exercise and 2nd F.  Great combo.  They also did some calf raises and LBC’s (but missed out on the burpees)
  • Well the Packers play the Panthers this week.  Anyone want to make a burpee bet?

The Thang

Warm Up
20 SSH
10 Windmills
10 Low Slow Squats
20 Mountain Climbers

The Beatdown
The great thing about PHOP is not only the massive amount of land, but also the amazing hills in the neighborhood across the street. Sergeant York decided to take advantage of this neighborhood for a good nice mosey routine, with some killer ab workouts in between.

Start a strong pace from PHOP to across the street continue the run around the whole neighborhood. Once one lap was complete we added some fun:

Started off with the following
40 Flutter Kicks Double Count
40 Freddie Mercuries Double Count
40 LBC’s Single Count

Take a strong pace up the hills and around the full neighborhood.

Return and rinse/repeat lower by 10.
30 Flutter Kicks Double Count
30 Freddie Mercuries Double Count
30 LBC’s Single Count

Take a strong pace up the hills and around the full neighborhood. At this point the hills started to seem longer than the first two laps. However we all remembered what Apache says during the Hills of Gloom, “DO NOT STOP!”.

Return and rinse/repeat lower by 10.
20 Flutter Kicks Double Count
20 Freddie Mercuries Double Count
20 LBC’s Single Count

Take a strong pace up the hills and around the full neighborhood. We began our downhill talking about the Yeti(Which if you have not heard of this, keep an eye on twitter. Also spoke about the Joe Davis Run(Sign up and join us for a good 10k).

Return and rinse/repeat lower by 10.
10 Flutter Kicks Double Count
10 Freddie Mercuries Double Count
10 LBC’s Single Count

We then took our Pace and headed back towards PHOP. Once we made it back we still had time on the clock, even though we had to play frogger with cars crossing the street, in the dark.

Circle up into a plank position
6 inches – 10 count by Sergeant York
Plank – 10 count by Sergeant York
6 inches – 10 count by The Riddler
Plank – 10 count by The Riddler

Thanksgiving – F3 Style

  • QIC: Santini, Chef Cake Boss and Pusher
  • When: 11/26/15
  • Pax: All Pax of F3 the Fort including Rock Hill, Indian Land, Tega Cay and Fort Mill. Feel free to EH any male family members visiting for the holiday.
  • Posted In: The Ranch

Thanksgiving is an opportunity to celebrate and give thanks to the many blessings that we have received over the past year. This tradition typically includes family and friends gathered around a table complete with a large feast of turkey, dressing, vegetables, etc. The average American consumes approximately 4500 calories on this day which is usually followed by watching some football and a nap!

Within the Fort, each of us has a lot to celebrate and be thankful for over the past year. Whether you have been EH’ed to join, participated in a CSAUP, Q’ed a workout, joined a Bible study, attended a 2nd F or joined your brothers in the gloom for some pain, in 2015 you have been touched by F3. You are a better Father, husband, leader, employee or employer this year than you were last year.

So before you start your Thanksgiving with all of the fixings, I ask you to join us for our annual Thanksgiving Day celebration at the Fort. What better way to start your holiday than with a double down!

Thanksgiving Day Workout

Location: The Ranch (Springfield Elementary School)

Form two lines facing each other for the start of the ST400

Round 1:  Merkin x 20, Squat x 20, LBC x 20, Burpee x 20, run one lap around lot

Round 2:  Diamond Merk x 20, MH x 20, Hello Dolly x 20, Burpee x 20, run lap

Round 3:  Widearm Merk x 20, Lunge L/R x 10ea, Crunchy Frog x 20, Burpee x 20, run lap

Round 4:  Staggered Merk L/R x 20ea, Lunge L/R x 10 ea, Flutter x 20, Burpee x 20, run lap

Round 5:  Military Merk x 20, Squat Jump x 20, Freddie Merc x 20, Burpee x 20, run together back to COT

I don’t make it to Walter Elisha much anymore so it’s always fun to get back and Q.  WEP gets pretty swampy after it rains so I opted to stick to the asphalt today. I like this work out because you get a lot done in a short amout of time and it doesn’t take up much space.   We had a good group out there today and everyone put out a strong effort.   Whenever McGuyver is in the group, I always run faster. It’s a privilege to lead the group, and great to see the Fort Pax who I don’t see very often.   Thanks for the invite, Repeat and I look forward to coming back soon (like Saturday

Announcments/Prayers/Praises

Prayers/praises:  Wheels back from injury – good to have you back, brother!  Rock Thrill’s house is sold after a long time.

Baxter 5k this Saturday benefitting the school at CAH,  Oyster Roast Sat, Nov 7, Thanksgiving convergence at the Ranch (someone may cook a Turkey), F3 The Fort Xmas part Dec 19, Joe Davis Resolution Run on Jan 9 to benefit Keystone.  A HUGE F3 event – support Rock Thrill and Keystone.

After conferring with multiple weather apps on Sunday, it was decided by Site Q and workout Q to call an audible at move the AO to the IL alternate, The Cave. With the impending rain the Pax thought it was a good time to revisit an old friend.

In the comfort of The Cave Pax from far and wide joined us for a rain free post. After a little mosey warm up we were off.

The Thang:

Grab sandbags from launch point, mosey back down the parking ramp to bottom starting point. Partner up, small fry and big guy.
Partner 1 sandbag clean and press
Partner 2 sprint 2/3 rds up ramp and 5 burpees at top.
Continue rotation until 100 clean and press completed.

Return sandbags to launch and mosey around the parking deck. Circle up for some closing COP.

Interlude on Accelerating Man (AM). See Naked Man Moleskine.

Seal Jacks, LSS, modified Baryshnikov’s, aborama.

COT

NMM
The COP warmup may have had some Pax thinking that it was going to be a light morning and wondering if they would get challenged. This thought was completely tossed out with the hanging toe touches and sandbag clean and press rotation. There was plenty of mumble chatter to start, but the Pax dug in and really pushed one another. It was great to see. YHC shared some thoughts regarding the Accelerating Man touching on the necessity to push yourself and one another to always be improving in any of the 3 F’s. YHC shared that my recent Acceleration has been in the area of the 3rd F feeling a desire to draw closer to the SkyQ and identify opportunities to share faith in a practical way.

Prayer’s: newborn nephew, sister with cancer.

Always an honor.

Freed to Lead, on a Monsoon Monday!

  • QIC: Royale
  • When: 11/02/15
  • Pax: Geronimo Crash Fish Sticks Cornhole Vinny Puddles Mainframe
  • Posted In: Quagmire

On a rainy Monday morning in the gloom, on my way to the Rivergate Quagmire I was driving very carefully due to my special cargo in the van…one mistake and I’d have some deadly projectiles looking to take me out!  I pulled into the parking lot, got out and was greeted by 6 of my fellow PAX…and at 5:14am our Cousin “Vinny” fish tailed it in to the parking lot to make the disclaimer.

I’ve been reading Dredd and OBT’s “Freed to Lead” book (thanks Cornhole) and I thought today was a great day to share some of the insight I’ve gained from the book.  So I started with asking the PAX what was F3’s mission?  I shared that mission, “To plant, grow and serve men’s small workout groups in order to reinvigorate male community leadership.”  and with that we moseyed.

The Thang

Mosey to HD parking lot for COP (there was a steady and strong rain coming down now)

15 IWs 20 MCs 10 Merkins 25 SSHs

20 LBCs in 2 inch puddles during which we got the quote of the day… our shirts made this god awful sucking noise in the rain so a member of the PAX yelled out “it sounds like flushing a toilet!” …maybe you had to be there…

20 Seal Jacks 15 LS Squats 10 Windmills

Mosey to side of Target where our favorite Red Balls of Pain begin.

We did Burp-a-cides: Run 1st ball do 2 burpees, run back do 1 burpee, run to next ball 2 burpees, etc.

Rinse and repeat until all ten Red Balls were done.

Plank until six, but some strong men picked up the six (thanks Crash, Geronimo and Cornhole) = great leadership!

For our 10 counts I asked all who knew the 5 core principals of F3?

1. Free 2. to all men 3. held outdoors (rain or shine) 4. lead in rotation by a member of the group 5. closes with a COT

Mosey to Books-a-Million were my present for the PAX was gathered (and the potential deadly projectiles were) 12 cinder blocks!

Cinder Block exercises included

20 Curls 10 Cinder block Burpees 10 Overhead Presses (I asked if a Q ever splashed merlot during his own workout)

For our 10 count I shared 1st F = Magnet   2nd F = Glue   3rd F = Dynamite!  and elaborated a little on each..back to those cinder blocks!

10 Durkins 10 Squats 20 Curls finally 10 more cinder block burpees (the PAX now yelled aloud that they hoped I WOULD splash my merlot for this one)

Mosey back towards our launch point, found out the fountain was filled with soap from some pranksters, finished with AbLab again in the pouring rain.

20 Freddie Mercury’s 20 LBCs 15 Hello Dollies finished with Protractor

Mosey back to COT

Begin: Pantheon
End: Pantheon

Because we don’t have enough stupid things to do during the winter, The Fort will be hosting its newest CSAUP for the season, “The Yeti”.  The Yeti is an excuse for you to start training in an effort to reduce the extra lbs you put on over the holidays.  The Yeti, or Abominable Snowman, is an ape-like creature that is taller than your average human, not unlike an F3 man.  This event will consist of 17+ miles of running and biking and feature multiple pain stations beginning at Pantheon and ultimately concluding at Pantheon.  Don’t fool yourself!  It will be awful and it will be cold!  There will be no trophy!  Only the knowledge that you completed this CSAUP with your fellow F3 brothers. You can participate in several ways.

Yeti:        Solo Run (17.5 mi)
Iceman:  Solo Run (6.5 mi) & Bike (11.0 mi)
Relay:     2 Man Relay (Run and Bike 1 leg each)
Relay:     2 Man Running Relay (Run 2 legs each)
Support: Support the Pax with Hydration Stations along the route

Sign Up Here for The Yeti! Need a decent count for the event!

As of now, the plan is to complete the following route but is subject to change based on the Qs mood.

Route
Run: Pantheon to Ballroom: 3.0 miles
Run: Ballroom to Coop: 3.5 miles (6.5 mi run)
Bike: Coop to Run N Gun: 6.0 miles
Bike: Run N Gun to Pantheon: 5.5 (11.5 bike)
