Hey, Look at those Homeless Guys

  • QIC: Zima
  • When: 08/31/16
  • Pax: Zima (YHC), Cable Guy, Cobra Kai, Cornhole, Bolt, Corruption, Matrix, Crabcakes
  • Posted In: Run 'n Gun

I’m beginning to think there is a method to the madness of why we work out in the Gloom. Because we’re not that pretty in the daylight. This was evidenced at the most recent installment of Run Ruck and Gun! Some of the usual ruckers and then some of the “not so usual” ruckers were rolling in prior to launch of 1815. Tclaps to Cobra Kai and WWL for providing this evening’s coupons. 1815 came and went! I disclaimed and proceeded to outline

THE THANG
8 Pax
2 – 40 lb sandbags
2 – 60 lb sandbags
1 – 55 lb Log named “Darkness” (Hello, my friend see: #Simon&Garfunkel)
2.75 Miles of Baxter Streets and Trails including Gardenia

This was a modified Coupon Ruck from Spearhead’s 10 Mile Coupon Challenge (OG). Pax rotated the coupons every 5 minutes for the entire hour while we covered approximately 2.75 miles. Each pax had 1-2 recovery periods but still were carrying their 30 lb rucksack. This was a good example of what you might experience in a Goruck event, except it was only an hour and we didn’t have any casualties. It was a challenging hour and we all #embracedthesuck.

NMM
– Cobra Kai and WWL are awesome. Thanks for sharing your toys
– I think this was Bolt’s second ruck and he already looks like a veteran (shocker)
– Crabcakes is too funny. He carries Darkness around like it’s a little baby
– Tclaps to Site Q Corruption on his first ruck
– Tclaps to Cable Guy for not farting the entire time (I think)
– Tclaps to Cornhole for just being Cornhole. Carried Darkness all the way up Gardenia #beast
– Favorite Quote: “What are those homeless guys doing?” as heard from a couple of kids while we marched down Market Street

11 Pax posted to this week’s episode of Laces Out. And what an episode it was. This was my 2nd Q in 12 hours having Q’d Ruck n Gun the previous evening. To be honest I was a bit tired and a bit sore. But that all would give way in about 20-30 minutes where I would be experiencing light-headedness and an overwhelming urge to throw up. Is this a track workout? I have no idea but we ran on a track, so yeah, I guess! Pusher and Santini hit the road while the rest of us moseyed to the track.

THANG
0500 Disclaimer
0501-0515 Warmup
0515-0545 Fast 5 Training* (see below)
0545-0555 Cool Down
0555-0600 Stretch

*Fast 5 Training
YHC got it into his head that it would be a great idea to simulate the Fast 5 this morning on the track. There were 9 of us but Longshanks wanted to run around the track with a sandbag, so we left him to that. 8 Pax partnered up in two’s. Partner 1 runs a lap as fast as he can and then hands off to partner 2. While Partner 2 is running the lap, partner 1 is recovering. We did this for 30 minutes and it was vomit-inducing. You can call it speed work. You can call it stupid. I call it #CSAUP. I think everyone left better than they came.

NMM
– Hi Hat and WhatDid are #fast
– Old Bay is a machine. He’s a good pick up for a Fast5 team
– Longshanks did a little of everything. He’s got a Spartan next week at Fort Bragg. Good luck buddy!
– Max HR for me was 201 (is that good or bad)
– Great to meet Shady and Blades (hope they come back ;))
– Chaser is a great partner. I’m not saying he’s slow I’m just thankful for the recovery periods.

I’m not sure where I’m going…so follow me!

  • When: 08/31/2016
  • Pax: Apache, Pistol, Cujo, Pescador, Cool Table, Italian Job, River Rat, Flop, Spartacus, Pony Tail

Boomtown Central opened just over 2 months ago, and I had still not posted out there for several reasons.
1. PHOP is 2.3 miles from my house.
2. Wednesday is a run day for BRR training at PHOP on the hills across the street.

I’d like to thank Pistol for the invite out to BTC. It is an amazing AO, especially if you can get over it being a bit dark. I drove the area the day before (considering its right beside my job) and got a sense of what I wanted to do.

At 0515, disclaimer was disclaimed (leaving parts out that I yelled as running), and off we went. I figured that since Wednesday is a 5-7 mile run day, we’d see how much running we could get in. Apache, Pistol and Italian Job all reassured me that this was a run/boot; so running was encouraged.

Quick Mosey over to Baxter Hood Center. The plan was to use the parking lot for some agility work using the parking spots…problem was that there was no light in the parking lot.

So we did a quick warmup:
SSH x 25
MNC x 20
Windmill x 20

With that, we took off.

For 5 years, I’ve driven by the Techpark area almost daily. Every day, I’ve noticed a walking path just off of Anderson Rd. When prepping for this workout, I took a look at the city’s trail map and figured out that the trail eventually ended up at the statues on Dave Lyle Blvd. Jackpot…so off we went on the DARK trail.

After a 1/2 mile mosey or so, we ended up at the statues. From there, we crossed Dave Lyle Blvd into Techpark North, and ran over to a parking lot. Each man partnered up and did the following:
1 man runs, while the other does an exercise.
Merkins
CDD
Squats

Kudos to Cujo for toughing it out through this.

AFter that, we ran around a bit more to explore Techpark North. Sprinted up the hill at the north end of Techpark, then began the mosey back.

Stop at statues and do Derkins x 10.

Continue Mosey and do squats to wait on the 6. Continue Mosey back to BTC (at a much slower pace, this time).

Back to COT–finish with 4 minutes of Mary.

Great job by each man.
Italian Job, thanks for your steady leadership and commitment to making the man beside you better.
Apache, your enthusiasm for what we’re trying to do at F3 makes this whole thing really work.
Pony Tail, you’ve made us so much better since coming out to F3. Glad I’m getting to know you better each week.
Cool Table, I appreciate your heart for the children of Rock Hill and trying to make a difference; especially with our young men. As an educator, you don’t know what a service you’re giving the world.
Flop, Spartacus, Pescador: You three have made us so much better physically in Rock Hill. I fully expect to see each of you Qing TOUGH workouts soon…and getting into some CSAUPs with us.
River Rat: So glad to see you posting consistently again. Your example as a Dad is one I aspire to be like.
Pistol: Your heart for your fellow Pax is clear. Thanks for your leadership.
Cujo: Amazing work! I know it was tough…but never did a get a sense of you wanting to give up. Keep at it…you’ll be amazed how much faster you get. Soon.

It was an honor to lead. Thanks to each of you for the privilege!

Aye!

Twenty-two of RH and the Fort’s best joined YHC on a not quite as humid Tuesday morning at Eagles Nest. Since BRR is just over a week away, I figured we’d make this more of a run/boot camp than just a strict boot camp.

The Thang:
Quick (7:30ish pace) mosey over to Byrnes Auditorium (around 1/3 mile or so)
Warmup:
SSH x 25
Morrocan Night Clubs x 20
Windmill x 10
Merkins x 10

Partner Up:
One Partner runs around Byrnes Auditorium while the other does the exercise. Switch off until the exercise is completed with the proper number of reps
Merkins (100)
Burpees (50)
Squats (100) (I think, can’t remember)

Mosey over to the Big Show (the Amphitheater)
Run the Big Show, on the right side of each step, do 10 Carolina Dry Docks

Mosey over to the Hill of Pain and partner up.
One partner runs up the hill, other does exercise.
LBCs, Merkins, Squats

Mosey back to COT, did 3 minutes of Mary.

Throughout the workout, I asked the Pax the question “Who are you”. Many of the Pax responded with their names, their families, their jobs. I asked each man about their true identity and pointed out that all the things mentioned, while all very good; are all of the earth. The one identity that we have that is not of this earth is that which comes from Sky Q.

It was a great workout in which we covered almost 2.5 miles with pain stations. All the Pax did a tremendous job!

A cool(er), clear, and beautiful morning greeter 18 veteran Fort Mill PAX and 2 FNG’s this fine Saturday Morning. YHC was eager to lead and Quack Attack joined for his VQ outing.

A more thorough disclaimer was presented since FNG’s were present. One would think the PAX would be respectful while this important message was delivered but, alas, one would be wrong. In the midst of said disclaimer, one of the most veteran Fort Mill PAX who will remain nameless (rhymes with Mangini) attempted to “pants” YHC. Luckily the drawstring mostly held allowing for the completion of the disclaimer. With that we were off following Quack.

Here’s what we did:

THE THANG

Clockwise mosey along the jogging path over to the hill. Down the hill to the flat and circle up around Quackie.  All exercises in cadence:

SSH (20)

Windmill (10)

Moroccan Night Club (20)

Imperial Squat (20)

Low Country Crab (20)

Mosey to the front of the park by the WEP sign and circle up in plank position. This is where things got a bit interesting.   Sir Quack planned to play Roxanne by the Police with the instruction to do 1 merkin when we heard “Roxanne”, and 1 plank jack at “put on the red light”.  Great idea!  Forgetting to bring the wireless speaker so anyone but him could hear his phone?  Not so good.  To his credit, Quacker didn’t give up and simply called the commands.   That was not easy and should be revisited with better audio components.

Turn over to Flat Tire

Switzer for a quick word. It had been a tough week.  A coworker of mine that I work closely with unexpectedly lost her 27 year old daughter.  Dilbert’s father, who just saw a Doctor a few months ago and got a clean bill of health, died in his sleep Wednesday morning.  Life is tough!  Kids get sick.  Loved ones die.  Tomorrow is not guaranteed.  The PAX were encouraged to remember what’s important.  Be present.  Have your priorities arranged correctly and try your best to live accordingly.  The things of this world will fade away.  Invest in people and love others.

James 4:14: Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.

Mosey back toward the back of the park and line up even with the 1st of 6 trees to embark on a mission to slay the beast.  Tip of the hat to Wild Turkey from A51.  He introduced us to The Beast at The Coop back in June.  The Beast = 6 stations, 6 exercises at each station, 6 rounds.  After each round, plank up and wait for the 6.

1st round – Scorpion CDD

2 – Bombjacks

3 – American Hammers

4 – Hand release merkins

5 – Boat / Canoe

6 – Burpees (crowd pleaser)

Mosey to the playground and partner up. 1 ran a lap while the other did dips.  Round 2, derkins.  Round 3, incline merkins.

Mosey back to the field for PAX led 7 minutes of Mary. Details hazy but something like this:  flutter kicks, American hammer, Freddie Mercury, LBC, gravedigger left / right, low county crab

COT

Prayers for Bailey Greene, Dilbert, injured PAX, sick relatives and friends, kids going back to school, teachers and admins

MOLESKIN

Great workout and effort by everyone. The FNG’s worked their tail off and kept right up, welcome Old Navy and Cooter.  Gents, this is EH season.  The weather is great and we’ve got plenty of AO’s to fill.  Give it away!  T Claps to Quack Attack on his VQ.  Great cadence calling with a good mix of exercises, get this guy on the Q schedule.

Thanks Ginsu, always and honor to serve,

Flat Tire

We encourage PAXS to please HC if they can donating bottled water and/or Gatorade to help keep everyone hydrated.
