BOARD OF MODERATION

Peanut butter and jelly, ice cream and cake, bacon and eggs, pancakes and syrup, peas and carrots, Hall and Oates, fish and chips….

Some things are great on their own, but can be even better when paired with a perfect complement.  I believe Moderation and Monday fit that category.  They are both great on their own, but can be even better together.

This was my first time posting at #independence, let alone Qing it.  Its a great AO with lots of options for things to do, whether its in the Dinkins Parking lot or the Quidditch Field(I saw them playing Quidditch there once, so that’s what I call that field now).

Warmup

With the Board of Moderation anxiously awaiting the PAX the warmup was simply a short mosey around the parking lot. Warm-up was built in to the Board of Moderation.

Meat and Potatoes(I’m trying to make this a “thing”)

Phase I

PAX partnered up and performed the exercises splitting them as they saw fit.  Also at the men’s discretion they ran down and back the length of the parking lot 3 times during the completion of Phase I.

  1. Imperial Walkers x100
  2. Overhead Claps x150
  3. Squats x100
  4. Peter Parkers x100
  5. Italian Night Clubs x150
  6. Windmill x100
  7. Merkin x150
  8. Side Straddle Hops x150
  9. Carolina Dry Docks x150
  10. Monkey Humpers x100

Phase II

In this phase we flipped the board, front to back.  I think this caught most of the PAX offguard.  But as a teacher I believe in posting the objective daily and this was no different.

During the phase the exercises were in the parking lot and we moved just a bit.

  • Crawl Bear(reverse Bear Crawl)-down and back 3 parking spot lengths
  • Bear Crawl-down and back 3 parking spot lengths
  • Bunny Hop-down and back 4 parking spot lengths
  • Carioca(not karaoke-Google it, although as an employee of a district that uses Microsoft I might be contractually obligated to say Bing it, I will have to check, Schrute can you confirm this?)-down and back 4 parking spot lengths

Phase III

  • The Abdominal Station
  • Flutter kicks x30 OYO
  • LBCs x25 IC
  • Rosalita x25 IC(en Espanol-although we werent a very worldly group and sorta stopped county at vente)
  • Partner Leg Throws x40 or to failure whichever came first

Phase IV

Today’s Greatest Hits-when planning this portion of the workout I initially thought of straight dealer’s choice opening up any exercise, but then I thought I better Walker-proof and Apache-proof it(before I learned Apache was on Q at Old Town) and make it only exercises we had done earlier, that way nobody could sneak any burpees.  We all know that a workout cannot be called moderate if there are burpees included.

I cannot recall all the exercises we repeated but I remember Merkins, Carolina Dry Docks, Squats among others.

Circle of Trust

PAX were counted and Names were Name A Rama’d.

Praises and Prayers

  • Prayers for our nation/law enforcement/race relations
  • Chuckie’s mission group on their departure and return from their Salkahatchie week
  • silent prayers
  • Prayers for one of our more humble, private HIMs, I will leave his name off here in deference to him.

Again, men, it was honor to lead you for a few minutes.  This AO has a lot of potential.  A lot of ground o

I had the honor and pleasure leading 18 Hims in the gloomness. Had three different workouts on hand #justincase I needed a backup plan and glad I did, because the old train being stuck on the track doing his morning duties kinda messed things up. So revision plan #3 was best option.

The Disclaimer

So the disclaimer was given with 1 fng in the ranks. Brought out by our brother Posh. It’s been too long brother glad you are back in town for a few days. Really miss your push and pull in this daily battle of the gloom

While the song plays preform plank Jacks when our guy Eddie sings out “rainy nights” do a merkin. Really appreciate and time I can do merkins but Eddie says rainy nights alot

And we moseyed back to COT and closed out right on time

COT

It’s always a humbling experience for me to lead a group of high impact males who are leaders ready to lead. So with that being said look around your COT and BOM and tap into the pax that has not lead a workout and give y I your Q away. Don’t be a hoarder of the groom

Leaders leading leaders

Nuggets

I’m going to close out the backblast with a few nuggets that really got me through a busy day

“You can claim to be surprised once; after that, you’re unprepared.”
#Maxwell

“Preparation may not guarantee a win, but it sure puts you in position for one.”
#Maxwell

The F3 Lexicon defines TEN THOUSAND HOURS (#10KH) as the amount of time a #HIM spends to become Competent at a Skill.

So the real question for today is what are you really preparing for?

Aye Apache

Twitter exploded Friday morning with by far the best advertisement of a guest Q that I have ever seen #T-Claps

Site Q’s (1 present and 1 on his own guest Q assignment) they both get an A+ from The F3 Sales & Marketing Department.

0558 Perfect weather (for nobody) 78 degrees, overcast, and 100% humidity

Disclaimer in detail

Warm Up COP in cadence, apparently that is referred to as a “Jane Fonda Video”, I was just going #oldschool, so off we went on a good pace mosey with lots of #mumblechatter, and so I ran us around in a random pattern to annoy the locals, and not explore the beautiful AO, so i just ran us on to a big parking lot.

From there we did a series of #F3Arkloader exercises across the parking lot, more #chatter, more laughing, more #chatter, all this while admiring Pebbles perfect and extremely slow repetitions #weird, which lead to more #chatter, and the only part the settled the natives was the flying squirrels/broad jumps…more laughs when I called for a “#switzer”, quick sermon on leadership, continuing to EH men into F3, and being a #HIM, from there I handed off to “THE” Swiper.

Swiper took off like he was on fire (he is really not that fast)…mosey to hill with non-stop calling on “car” and “game-on” references, we got to hill for 3 reps of a crazy backwards running 3 burpee, partner loving nonsense, from there more running, more #chatter, more laughs, more running, more #chatter, toss in some ABS, more running, stop at The BB&T #F3QuizShow, more #chatter, more running, more ABS, more laughs, time was up. Bird Landed perfectly with no injuries.

COT/Prayer&Praise/BOM

Naked Man Moleskine

Appreciate the opportunity to Q, great AO, it was fun to get to see “THE” Swiper, and appreciate the large crowd of PAX, hopefully we didn’t make it too easy.

Great to see my @F3IndianLand Crew #Malemodels #Fit

Nice to see my @F3SOB & @F3Area51 friends that I had not seen in a couple of years

YOU HAVE to follow #HIM @nturkas & #HIM @JRRTolkienF3 on twitter just to watch the promos for Saturday Qs, I had no idea how many photos of CSPAN you could google search…little weird, but very very funny.

This site has the best commute to breakfast, and the best attended #Coffeeteria% ever

Apparently HISTs not HIITs today

  • Posted In: Varsity

It was a dark a gloomy morning and the PAX arrived in droves.  Well, actually, there were 5 HIMs (but a strong showing nonetheless) that showed for the latest edition of DJ SOD “Spinning the HIITs”.  After mulling the fine print in the disclaimer, we started at the Nation Ford High School football stadium and mosey’d up through the parking lot to just past the front entrance to the school and found not only a light, but some brick walls that would go to good use in a few.  After 25 SSHs, 25 morroccan night clubs, and 25 seal jacks and with Foo Fighters on Pandora, the PAX began the 1st of 3 circuits (Upper, Lower, Abs), each consisting of 3 sets of 5 exercises – 30 seconds on and 15 seconds rest.  The menu consisted of Carolina Dry Docks, Plank Jacks, Balls to the Wall, Mountain Climber, and Hand Release Merkins. Oh, the mumblechatter!!!  “This is not High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)…it is High Intensity Shoulder Training (HIST)” and “If this is Varsity, where is JV?”.  Upon completion of Upper Body circuit, the PAX mosey’d from the front of the school to the center of the macadam football field.  There we completed the Lower Body circuit consisting of Squat, Reach and Jumps, Monkey Humpers, Alternating Back Lunges, Bomb Jacks, and Sumo Squats.  Once done there, the PAX mosey’d to the back entrance of the school where they rounded out the morning with some light ab work: Scissor Kicks, Planks, V-ups, Rosalita, and Dying Cockroaches.  After commenting on the fact that we finished EXACTLY at 6:00 AM, the PAX mosey’d back down to the football stadium for count-a-rama, name-a-rama, and BOM.

Decibel and I briefly discussed our Q content prior to our arrival at the park.  As I stretched out, I saw him grab a speaker out of his truck.  It could mean only one thing..Sally will be singing her song!

Leg to back, Leg to chest, torso twist (crowd pleaser)

Jog around the park, circle up in parking lot for the following exercises:

SSH (x25)

Imperial Walker (x15)

Mountain Climber (x15)

Moroccan Nightclub (x50)

LBC (x15)

Mosey to the brick pile for some partner exercises.

Partner 1 – Run to the opposite side of the parking lot, perform 15 squats with brick, jog back to starting point, and switch out with Partner 2.

Partner 2 – Perform the following exercises until Partner 1 returns.

Round 1: Curls

Round 2: Overhead Presses

Round 3:Tri Swing

Round 4: Sit-ups

Hand off to Decibel for the second half.  Short mosey to the field for 3+ long minutes of Sally.  If you have not experience it yet, download the song Flowers by Moby.  Play the song while in the plank position. When you hear, “Bring Sally Up”, push up.  When you hear, “Bring Sally Down”, drop down and hold the plank until the next “Sally Up”

After we picked our faces out of the muddy grass, Decibel gave us a U vs U challenge for the remaining time.  Complete the following exercises (in no particular order):

  • 3 laps around the park,  one lap must include a trip down the dreaded hill
  • 100 merkins, each set must be a different type (wide arm, diamond, etc)
  • 50 pull-ups
  • 100 Ab exercises (of your choosing)
  • 100 dips

The Pax worked hard and knocked out the grocery list above.  Great work by all on a hot and muggy morning!

Mosey to COT

This goes down as one of the quietest workout that I have ever participated in. Not sure if it was the high humidity level, Royale feeling under the weather or what I’m going with is that the beat down was so sever that they just couldn’t breathe.

Great group today and enjoyed the opportunity to lead.

Anything Can Happen (aka Ring of Fire)

I’ve heard it said that imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I’ve been known to imitate or slightly modify a good beatdown. I’ll have to thank Jekyll for introducing me to the Ring of Fire at the last Gladiator Games. After 2 rounds of the ring, I attempted the Games and was honestly too gassed to complete the cycle without a little help from Dark Helmet and CoPay, but as often as I do, I digress.

So the night prior to our workout, I posted that “Anything could happen…seriously!” I usually send it out as wiseguy comment but it took on a more serious tone after I hit send (more on that later). I showed a little early to get the Ring set up and was wondering if it was just going to be me and Sweeper, as he was the only PAX there until a few minutes to go time. Fortunately I saw some friendly faces and some new ones too. With Santini, Package and Bubba Gump posting this was sure to be a #mumblechatter #perfectstorm.

0700 Core Principles of F3

1. Free
2. Open to All Men
3. Held Outdoors, Rain or Shine, Hot or Cold
4. Peer led
5. End with a COT (Circle of Trust)

0702 Disclaimer Announced, Not a Professional, At your own risk, modify as needed, etc.

0703 Mosey Half Mile around the park with a couple of Drill bits for warm up that included:

  • SSH
  • Merkins
  • IW
  • Diamond Merkins

Mosey to the Ring of Fire and provide instructions:

Ring of Fire: 8 cones spread out into a ring 30 paces out from a center shovel flag.

  • First Round Bear Crawl to Center, 10 Burpees then proceed to next cone (Exercise and Count)
  • Second Round Lunge Walk to Center, 5 Burpees then proceed to next cone

Here were the 8 cones and exercise counts

  1. 40 Squat Side Kicks
  2. 20 Plank Alt Shoulder Taps
  3. 50 SSH
  4. 25 (4 Count) Mtn Climbers
  5. 30 Inchworm Merkin with SSH at the Top (Time consuming and crowd pleasing)
  6. 50 Monkey Humpers
  7. 30 Merkins
  8. 20 (4 Count) Flutter Kicks

We completed two circuits and I had an impromptu switzer to share what was on my heart.  I let the PAX know that when I posted anything could happen that it was intended to be a smart@$$ tweet.  But as soon as I hit send it got me to thinking.  My M’s Grandmother (who raised her) was in perfect health 8 weeks ago.  She passed away and went to be with the Lord last Saturday.  Anything can happen and did! Use this as an opportunity to hug your kids a little tighter, to love and forgive a little deeper with your Ms and family.   Make the most of each day PAX because anything can happen! Aye?

Mosey the half mile loop as a cool down and circle up for 5 MOM with Package leading the PAX (Thanks Package).

0800 COT & BOM

NMM

It’s been a rough couple of weeks with Grandma in the hospital and then in hospice for a week at our home until she went to be with the Lord. We even navigated 2.0 Hotwheel’s 5th birthday through all of this.  Needless to say, the outpouring of support and love from the PAX has been amazing.  Too much to thank individually in a BB.  You know who you are and my family thanks you from the bottom of their hearts. Remember, anything can happen, so make the most of your day, love your family, love your neighbor and strive to be a #HIM.  That said, here are my notes from the workout:

  • Package and Gump should start a new 2017 reboot of Bosom Buddies, they are two peas in a pod. Love you guys!
  • Sweeper, thanks for all the partner work and way to push yourself (and me)
  • Lil E, way to keep pushing
  • Javert, great to see you and I am amazed at your constant dedication to ultra events! Keep it up!
  • Santini, always great to see you, thank you for encouraging me into a leadership role, and sorry/not sorry you randomly hit two of my Qs within a month 😉
  • High Life, great to see you too! Last time was the Yeti I think, but then again I was delirious (then and now)
  • Peabody, last time I saw you was when I Q’d the BOP…#sorry
  • DoJo, great to meet you and for a new PAX to hit this workout and the BOP within the same week…Wow!
  • MacGyver…Beast!
  • Quack Attack, I forgot to ask you about your name…next time
  • Mainframe and Flat Tire, love seeing you guys! Smiles and sweat!
  • Bubba Gump, thanks for the encouragement on the mosey. We go back a ways brother..appreciate you!

Praise and Prayer Request

  • Continued prayers for Bubba Gump Family and the process with their Son
  • Praise for 10 yr anniversary for Peabody and M
  • Continued prayers for Package’s dad and surgeries and healing for his leg
  • Prayers for my wife and family as we adjust to the new normal without Grandma

Honored to be a small part of this thing!
