Laces In – Out and About

Laces In without the Laces Out crew still seems weird. Of course, getting up at 4:45 in the morning to work out still seems weird as well, so it’s probably safe to say my frame of reference is shot. But the 9 pax that posted were there to work hard and share in some fellowship, and it doesn’t get any more real than that. With a friendly new guy joining us, YHC made sure to cover the disclaimer, and we were off.

Mosey to the credit union parking for warmup-o-rama.

– SSH (30x)
– Low Slow Squats (25x)
– Cherry Pickers (20x)
– CDDs (20x)
– Plank stretches
– Skydiver
– pull-cord
– Moroccan nightclubs while on stomach (10x)
– Merkins (10x)

The Thang

Mosey to the center of devil’s fork (Monroe-White and Academy) for a ladder – 1:7 with Monkey Humpers at the bottom and Bombjacks at the top.

Mosey to the brick steps of First Baptist Church (old sanctuary). As part of recovery, YHC asked pax to recall their word of the year. Mine was “present”, which I’ve discovered fits really well with portions of a book I’m reading. It’s a productivity book that spends some time talking about being more meaningful, in the moment, and “attentional”. While some of the books suggestions aren’t worthy of mentioning during the recovery of part of an workout, the concept of slowing down during our busy days is something I think we could all benefit from. So many times I find myself in “automatic” mode, where I just go through the motion in order to get on to the next task. Taking a little more “attentional” time not only helps us soak up more of the life we are blessed with, it also provides space for us to hear God’s voice. If God has to yell at us to grab our attention, it means we are too distracted by things that are less important. And I am probably more guilty of this than anyone else. Often, God may not raise is voice to get our attention. So we need to quiet our surroundings to hear him better, and I submitted to you that being mindful and in the moment is one way to turn up the gain in our spiritual ears.

Partner-up for some Church Steps Work
1) P1 bunny hops up steps twice // P2 flutter – flapjack
2) P1 3 calf raises/step // P2 monkey humpers – flapjack
3) P1 run up and down steps 5 times // P2 SSH – flapjack
4) P1 bear crawls up, crab walks down // P2 LBCs – flapjack

Mosey back to WEP for a few minutes of abs
– Russian Twists
– one other exercise I can’t recall

Moleskin
We covered a bit more distance than typical, but the pax did excellent work! There was very little “wait for the 6” exercises needed. Special welcome to #RESPECT FNG “Riverboat”, and welcome back to Snoopy for his 2nd workout. It was a true honor to lead this morning.

The prayer request focused on our brother Spud who lost is 19 year old 2.0 last week. We should all be praying that 1) God will bring peace and comfort to his family, knowing that their son is dancing with Jesus right now and 2) us F3 brothers will realize that supporting each other during workouts is just warm-up for what F3 is really all about: being there when our brothers/family/community really need our support.

Humbly serving,

The Rock Hill tour continues and on the menu today was MAN U, so the clown cars from The Fort came in from all directions and the PAX arrived on this humid morning at Moe’s parking lot. Funhouse and Zima spent 15min talking bodily functions and everyone else had perplexed looks on their faces. Its what old age looks like so we were all getting scared!! 21 PAX was the number and with a quick check for FNGs and the disclaimer, away we went for a mosey.

Mosey back to COT:

First off, I would to commend the PAX for the encouragement, comradery and fellowship this morning. It was a humid morning and the weather really takes it out of you and all the encouragement across all the PAX keeping everyone engaged was amazing to witness.

I spoke to the PAX about discipline and how hard we work for the things of this world and what we line up as priorities. Our schooling, work, our physical fitness. These are important and we apply a great deal of discipline to each to make sure we make the grade and arrive on time to work and complete our tasks as well as waking up at crazy hours to run or crawl in the grass to get physically better. The challenge to all PAX, and starting with myself, is are we applying this discipline across all areas of our life. Are we in balance? Marriage is a full time job like our occupation yet we seem to slack off in the discipline it takes to make it the best marriage it can be. We have 1 shot to raise our kids with the knowledge, understanding and tools needed to stand on two feet and face life. Are we applying the discipline it takes to train them right and not spoil them or are we worried about “me” time?? Bottom line is you have Sky Q to help you and you have the brotherhood to help you align yourself to the things than need more “discipline” in your life. No excuses and its time to start today to make the necessary changes and apply where needed!!

Prayers and Praises : Riddler’s mom and Popeye’s mom and for Spud and his family dealing with los of son. Celebration of life service tonight. Praise from Snapper and his Grand mom.

Hog and Coyote is Saturday. Hit regular AO or join in the fun and fellowship.

Thanks Reborn for the Q. Humble and Honored as always!

Moleskin
40 minutes. That’s how long it took me to drive from my house in Fort Mill to GCC in Huntersville to lead a 45 minute workout. Took even longer to get home. And people wonder why. I will tell you why. It’s more than just a workout. It’s a brotherhood. In what other group would a man go to wake of someone they didn’t even know, but went only cuz he knows too much about the tragedy of losing a child? In what other a group can a man show up and lead 20 of his brothers that he doesn’t even know, yet they follow him anyways? In what other group when your done sweating, getting dirty, and maybe even bleeding, can you wrap your arms around your fellow brother and pray together as men? I can’t think of any group of men who I would rather start my mornings with. And it doesn’t matter if it’s in The Fort, or Rock Hill, or Isotope, or Metro, or anywhere else this group means so much more than just a workout.

Thank you to both Olive and Ditka for allowing me to come up and lead this workout today. Next time I will remember to bring the Kettlebell. And I Apologize if I get your name wrong in the PAX list.

Longshanks out!!

Our 3rd F focus of the month is humility. It’s a challenge to remain humble in our selfish society.

We often pray to God when things are going wrong or when we’re in need. But we then pridefully beat our chest once we’ve made accomplishment.

Remember who gave us the ability to make our accomplishments possible. God should be the source of our confidence in good and bad times.

James 4:6 ~ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

We moseyed on over to the Pantheon for some hot laps around the outer circle (90% effort) and then some cool down laps in the parking lot circle (50% effort) x6 followed by a mosey around the back of the Pantheon.  This offered up some great heart rate training, and a great way to prep for the Hog and Coyote this weekend.

COT:

I have really enjoyed being a part of this community for nearly 8 months. I tried to convey my appreciation of these HIMS and attempted to relate our journey to the journey of a few men from the book of Daniel.

Chapter 1 Verses 6 and 7

“Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.”

And Chapter 3

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s failure to worship false idols angered Nebuchadnezzar and he (Verse 20) “commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.” And by Verses 23 to 25 “And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astounded, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counselors, “Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?” They answered and said unto the king, “True, O king.” He answered and said, “Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”

So a group of men with strange pseudonyms built a team grounded in their faith. And it allowed them to walk through fire without being burnt. Seems like a plan to me.

It was an honor and a privilege to lead this group today. Thank you for your support and I think that I am ready to do it again soon!

Enough with the Merkins Already…

  • QIC: Royale
  • When: 06/14/2016
  • Pax: Full House, Howitzer, Cornerstone, Chicken Hawk, Boeheim, Geronimo, Chedda, Royale, Fish Sticks (runner)
  • Posted In: Golden Corral

Tuesday morning, 2nd Q in a row. I haven’t had the opportunity to Q in a month and now they come back to back. I couldn’t be more excited! I got to Golden Corral 15 minutes early, dropped my coupons and planted my Flag and waited for the PAX to arrive. It’s been several months since I’ve been to GC, so I was happy to meet a few new PAX that I haven’t seen before. Full House has some good mumblechatter!

FORGOT the disclaimer…but made it up around minute 35…so better late than never.

5:15am so time to mosey!

Moved behind the Harris Teeter building right between two garbage bins for COP

Warm-up contained SSH IWs Windmills Mountain Climbers CDDs MNCs Cherry Pickers. Started to break a sweat so that was good enough.

Moseyed to the Oil Change building for 2 rounds of 20 Step ups reverse to 10 Derkins

Quick 10 count mosey to the Dark Hill behind the lot. Made sure to watch out for a big drop off where they have road construction going, lucky I reconned in the early AM or I might have lost another ankle!

7s on the Hill
Top we start with 6 Kraken Burpees, I informed the PAX that have not been to the Deep (shameless plug for Lake Wylie) that Kraken burpees are 3 hand release merkins then top it with a burpee. That’s “1!”

Bottom of the hill we’ll do my favorite merkin, the Ranger Merkin.

6 at top 1 at bottom – rinse and repeat until 6 at bottom and 1 at top. You know the drill.

Mosey over to open field where we found the pavers I left for fun.

Circle up each man with a Paver brick. We would do the following exercises to failure while each member of the PAX ran around the circle. We’d get to 3 or 4 PAX completing their run and we’d take a quick break.

Paver Curls
Bent Rows
Tricep Extensions
Over Head Press
Squats
Paver Curls again
Bent Rows again

I was about to start an Indian run but Chedda offered a better idea and we hit the Harris Teeter Wall for People’s chair. I added a bear crawl from one end to the other for the PAX to keep it interesting.

Switched to BTTW for 2 10 counts

Back to People’s Chair with a Bear Crawl – Howitzer does more of a leaping gallop…you should have seen him at the PAINtheon Games! He is truly the Bear crawl expert!

We each grabbed a paver and moseyed back to COT

Announcements were made (read your newsletter)

Prayers for:
Our PAX Spud and the unexpected loss of his son Jay (see twitter and F3nation.com for arraignments or contact Bing)
Prayer’s for Orlando and senseless violence
Healing for Cornerstone’s daughter, Emma, battling Leukemia
A friend’s daughter, Vivian, with Leukemia as well

Prayers for Hope shared by Full House and how his wife is recovering from liver cancer

Praises for miracles for YHC Co-worker’s Brother who died for 12 minutes from electrocution in a pool over Memorial Day. He’s finally out of a coma and doing better than expected.

Praises for Cornhole’s new career opportunity!

Moleskin:
All I can say about this Tuesday morning workout is that F3 is more than a workout. Full House truly shared some inspiring words about his wife and the power of prayer. It was great to be able to lead the prayer for healing that Cornerstone’s daughter needs, and to hear there can be hope when there are so many terrible things that happen in this world. I’m so glad I can be a part of these men’s lives for just a few short minutes a day, and that we all have the chance to grow stronger together at every interaction.

An Honor to Lead

16 strong today. Around half of the Clydesdales took the roads around Baxter for a nice easy run. The other half decided to order biscuits down at Hardees. Both groups accomplished their first F goal.

Good luck to Short Sell in his goal to be a commando in Spitz’s Army. Great to have Newman building the cardio with us. We’ll have him out to a CSAUP soon enough.

Some mumble chatter around putting together a Ragnar team. I hear our old P200 team rallying to the call. Need a HC from Airborne, Tater, Deacon, Bass-o-matic, and any other fool wanting to join a team.

See you all next week.

Prayers/Praise – Prayers for Spud and the loss of his son this weekend. Continued prayers for Olive and Stang. Prayers for everyone that is missing a loved one. Praise for this group and the support system it can be when going through tragedy and loss.

Moleskin
Chicken Hawk reminded us in Prayer to go out and BE a light for someone. With all the crap going on around us in this broken world, we are called to BE that light. We have too many brothers amongst our PAX right now that are dealing with the loss of children, parents, grandparents, other family, and friends. BE that light. Lift them up. Even if its a just a message letting your brother know that you’re thinking of them and praying for them.

OUR DEEPEST FEAR
By Marianne Williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.

We ask ourselves
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small
Does not serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking
So that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine,
As children do.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within us.

It’s not just in some of us;
It’s in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we’re liberated from our own fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.

Matthew 5:16 – “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Thank you Zima for the opportunity to lead.
