5 Chillin’ at The Tomahawk

I love watching the video from this workout. Everybody’s beat. Uhaul can’t remember the date, Drone forgot how name-o-rama works, and a lot of sweat dripping.

I started us off with a mosey around the big block. Once we got past the school we stopped at every light pole and did an exercise. Some SSH, some Squats, Some Merkins…the basic warmup moves. Once we got back to the parking lot (.5 miles later!) we circled up and did some moves while 1 pax jumped off to do the battle rope. We used this pax as our timer. They were to give it their all for as long as they could go while the others did an exercise. 1st up was Curls, then Overhead Tricep Extensions, then Goblet Squats, then I forgot what they did while I was on the battle rope.

Next up we did a round of Kettlebell Swings. 30 seconds and then move the the left to swing somebody else’s bell. Bells ranged from 10lbs to 30lbs.
After the Swings we played a little game of Pass the Dutchie. I don’t know why it’s called that but I think that’s what Assassin always called it back in his Armory days. You sit and pass the the bell clockwise for a minute and then reverse the course. Again, bells ranging from 10-30lbs.

We did some Lunge Walks (with the bell) and some Sprints (without the bell). We did some more Overhead Tricep Extensions and we did some more Curls. We also ran a few more small loops. We totaled 1.32 miles which is probably more than expected for a KB site but the pax rocked it out! We ended with C.O.T. and we prayed.

Q on Cue

A strong group of 17 PAX appeared in the midst of a cool late-august gloom.

– added a little runners lunge with some twisting (because yoga)

– Threw in 10 burpees because no PAX could quickly identify where in the bible the store of David and Goliath is located (1st Samuel)
– Threw in 20 bomb jacks for a “That’s what she said” about David being small……..not that kind of group.

– Happy Jacks x4
– Divided up in to 4 groups at each little hill:
– Start at the top of the hill
– Standing forward bend (aka: touch your toes)
– Inch-worm down into merkin position
– 10 Derkins
– Inch-wormed back
– Bear Crawl to the next hill
– (total of just 40 derkins)
– COP on the little neglected concrete slab there
– Tammy Wynettes for a while (most groups hit 3 reps)
– Mosey back to COT with some stops to let everyone catch up
– Wallsit at Millstone
– Sprint up Massey Hill
– BTTW at Springs Corporate

NMM:

David and Goliath is a story about faith, but may also be a story about a smaller more agile advisory taking on a big, lumbering giant. This begins to sound like a “lizard” vs a “bullfrog” from the Q-source. Just like David, we sometimes need the faith to trust a lizard or believe that as a lizard we can succeed.

Party on the Block

Ain’t no party like a Block Party and I didn’t want to disappoint. Shady has lined up some strong Q’s here and the last thing I was going to do was break the positive cycle. On a Tuesday in The Fort you have a wide variety of options. I appreciate the 12 other men that rolled in for a slight variation of the norm.

After spending a few hours in the car recently, I’ve done my F3 duty of getting caught up on the 43′ Podcast by Dredd & Dark Helmet. Sure, it’s a Podcast on “leadership” but let’s be honest, I tune in to listen to the gut punches and banter as much as I do for the leadership discussion. Several learnings were incorporated into this workout which you’ll read shortly. Some may be obvious to you but they weren’t something I gave much thought to previously.

In addition to the 10 Ft Mill locals, we had Drone from F3 metro and he brought an FNG, welcome Radio Flyer!!

Run around the left side of WEP back down 160 to the parking lot with the chain attempting to obstruct our entrance. Knowledge nugget from 43’…the joys and effectiveness of the 8ct Burpee. Another knowledge nugget was that we too often get caught in the trap of assuming things will be the same this time because it’s the way we’ve always done it. Like Side Straddle Hops to start a warm up or doing exercises in counts of 10. Both of those…out the window.

Sprint to the next post then do 5 Jumping Lunges. Sprint to the next post and do the same thing. We did this 2 more times for 4 total posts which included some nice up/down hill sprinting.

Closed it out with 10 more 8ct Burpees and some Chopsticks & American Hammers.
