PAINtheon Games 3.0 (The Time I Posted the Scores)

This morning 9 Pax woke up and chose to do the harder thing. It’s not like they didn’t know what was coming (they did). It’s not like they had never done this before (most had). They just chose to get better.

PAINtheon Games was born out of doing something stupid (see: CSAUP) to celebrate the anniversary of Pantheon. We then decided annually wasn’t enough and we hold the “half anniversary” at the Coop (I digress). So Pax showed up to celebrate the 3 year anniversary of Pantheon. This is how it went down…

Warmup: SSH, Windmills and Mountain Climbers

Mosey to front of school. PAINtheon games begin:

  • 2 Minute AMRAP Merkins
  • 2 Minute AMRAP Sit-ups
  • 2 Minute AMRAP Burpees

  • 1 Mile AYG
  • Timed BTTW (as long as you can hold it)
  • Timed 6” Hold (as long as you can hold it)

NMM:

Huge Tclaps to the Pax that showed up. They really got after it and didn’t hold back. I apologize to the Pax from PAINtheon 2.5 at the Coop, the time I didn’t post the scores. I will look for them and see if I can get it out in a BB (no promises). I’m inspired by the guys I see in the gloom. We’re all just ordinary guys doing some pretty extraordinary things before 6 AM (thanks for pointing that out Anchorman). Keep getting better.

Made sure that I woke up for my Q!

10 Pax showed up to see if YHC would show for the Q.   No excuse for sleeping through my Q at Coliseum yesterday.  So when YHC had the opportunity at redemption, it couldn’t be passed up.  FishSticks reluctantly gave the Q for Pantheon to me, with the stipulation that I would actually show up. I woke up and posted, so far so good.  The rest of the morning was blamed on the Weinke.

The Thang

Easy small lap with a short COP: SSH, IW, Moroccan Night Clubs, Seal Jacks

Bring Sally Merkin Challenge – This was not good after The Murph….

Big Lap

4 minute Ab Lab with 20 seconds Exercise and 20 seconds elbow plank recovery: V Ups, Parker Peter, Dying Cockroach, Flutter, American Hammer, Mountain Climbers

Small Lap

10 minute Merkin Challenge – 10 Merkins in 1 minute – Rinse Repeat 10 X

Big Lap

Wall Sits with Burpees – Each Pax to a pillar – Starting at one end, 3 burpees per Pax until all done

Big Lap

Extra Credit – Roxanne Squat Challenge – Start song, hear Roxanne, go down for the squat and hold until you hear Roxanne again, then come on up.

Done

The PAINtheon Games 3.0 lands 6/13/18

Hard to believe it’s been 3 years since we started this AO. And as we do every year, we celebrate this fact by doing stupid things in the gloom. So if you have the stones (see: gumption) to post on 6/13, you’ll get to enjoy the following items:

Date: 6/13/18
Time: 0500
Where: Pantheon (TCES)
What: See Below

Pantheon Games
• Merkins AMRAP (2 minutes)
• Sit-ups AMRAP (2 minutes)
• Burpees AMRAP (2 minutes)
• 100 Yard Bear Crawl Dash
• 1 Mile Timed
• Balls to the Wall (2 minutes or until only 1 PAX is left)
• Timed 6 inch hold (2 minutes or until only 1 PAX is left)
• Burpee Chase (Personal Fav)

Cobains for not posting the last games results. I’ll try to get them up before the event so those who have posted before have a benchmark. If you’ve been to the games, you know what’s in store. If you haven’t, it’ll be the highlight of your week. High on pain. High on 2ndF.

Please not the early start of 0500

Mini Cannoli Run at Pantheon

Perfect timing with site Q Fishsticks needing a sub. This allowed me  to vent some Cannoli stress on the PAX and set up a workout with Cannoli Run similarities.

In this Saturday’s Cannoli Run that YHC is race director, we run 3 1-mile loops where many of the runners choose to eat a (smaller) cannoli 3 times.  Also, Speed For Need will be at the Cannoli Run.

With that in mind, I brought out a SFN racing chair for PAX to run a loop during the workout, with instruction before getting started. We had the perfect number of PAX, 6, to do a nice mini-Cannoli workout. Disclaimer given and we set off.

“Cannolis” were placed at the starting point of the inner loop. The cannolis were slips of paper with exercises on them. Each PAX got to eat at least one cannoli and push the chair one time. Note, not all cannolis were eaten.

A basic warmup circle and we started our loops with cannolis and pushing the chair. The cannolis contained, in no particular order in this BB:

1  20 goofballs, 20 CDD, 20/20/20 calf raises…reg, toes in, toes out

2  15 burpees

3  To the field for Panther Pound Burpees

4  Core Work for a few minutes, flutter, lbc’s, protractor, side crunches, much 6″ holds

5  20 Peter Parkers, 25 dying cockroaches, 20 sumo squats

6 15 burpees

Somewhere in there, we threw in 3 x near max out Balls to the Wall and 3 x  Peoples Chair near max out.

During the workout I talked about the Cannoli Run and Speed For Need. In COT we continued to address supporting your fellow PAX. There are of course the 3 F’s to support each other, but also to support our initiatives such as Speed For Need, Children’s Attention Home and our community efforts in the Paradise neighborhood.  If a PAX has an idea, run with it, get it organized, present it and we will support you.

Announcements, Cannoli Run, CAH Sat’s, G Fit Friday’s 7:00 pm.  Prayers for PAX and their families.  Thank you to Haushka for taking us out. Thanks to the PAX for having me out and being a part of something a little different.

Get out to the Cannoli Run this Saturday!  www.SPNCannoliRun.com

Slow and Intensional Dirty McDeuce

8 fine pax arrived at Pantheon ready for a beating.  As tempting at it was to pull out the bucket-o-pain for the second day in a row, YHC decided to reach way back in weinke history for a workout that was a favorite (perhaps?).  At any rate, near perfect workout weather, with the exception of it being just humid enough for there to be dew on the field.  No matter, plenty of options otherwise.

No new guys, but new faces to YHC (first time meeting BMT and Mousetrap – AYE!).  All were disclaimered and we set out for a mosey around the side of the school.

Warm up

  • SSH x40
  • Imperial Squat Walkers x20
  • Windmills x10
  • Peter Parkers x20
  • Flip over for dips x20
  • Mountain Climbers x20
  • Toy soldiers across parking lot
  • Lunges back
  • Shuffle left/right
  • Karaoke left/right

Run back to front of school

The Thang

We talked briefly (and throughout the workout) about the importance of being “attentional”; taking time to throughout the day to create some “white space”.  That’s where it’s often easiest to hear God’s voice.  To help appreciate how to slow down, the main exercises of this workout was a Slow Dirty McDeuce: 12 exercises, 12 slow reps each, taking a lap after every 3 exercises.

Round 1:

  • Wide-arm Merkins (3 count down, 1 count up)
  • Squats (3 count- down, 1 count up)
  • LBCs (3 count-up, 1 count down)

run lap
Round 2:

  • Dry Docks (3 count down, 1 count up)
  • Flutter Kicks (slow 4 count)
  • Calf Raises (3 count down, 1 count up)

run lap
Round 3:

  • Dips (3 count down, 1 count up)
  • Step Lunges – 12 each leg (3 count down, 1 count up)
  • Weezy Jeffersons  (3 count up, 1 count down)

run lap
Round 4 – this was done in Jack Webb style of 1 merkin, then 4 slow moroccan night clubs, then 4 squats then  2 merkins (then 8 and 8), etc.  We did this through 4 rounds

run lap and a half, and land back at COT.  I was sad we didn’t have time for the slow ladder in the field (everything in cadence, including slow bombjacks and 6-count burpees – next time!).

3 minutes left for a little Mary:

  • American Hammers
  • Skydiver
  • Pull the cord, then do moroccan night clubs, while on our bellies (stole that from CSPAN about 3 years ago).

Great job done by all!  Thanks FishSticks for the opportunity to lead!

4 Corners . . . with some “Elders”

I will keep this backblast shorter, but I will say it was a lot of fun today at the Pantheon! Thanks to Fishsticks for letting me Q.

Some Pre-work:

1 group of runners headed out to who knows where at 4:45.

Fishsticks and I did some extra ab work that I call high octane abs. It hurt.

Disclosure given. Lots and lots and lots of chatter. Completely dark. Did I mention there was lots of chatter?

Short mosey to the lighted area for a different dynamic stretching workout after some high knees and butt kickers.

Some confused minds about what we were doing since very few had done this style of warm-up before (~8 exercises). Eventually I shifted to some traditional SSHs and the crowd went wild. It was like the PAXs’ bodies woke up.

At this point I inconveniently forgot a few demos of a few of the exercises to come for the main event.

The Thang:

We broke up into 4 teams of 5 and went to each respective corner on the soccer field. Fortunately, it was not very muddy.

I’d tell you the 20 different (and difficult) exercises that we did, but  . . . that means I’d have to type them out right now and I feel lazy after a long day of work. So if you are reading this, feel free to retweet it and comment what your favorite one was even if you don’t know the name of it. We did do Tunnel of Love and People’s Carry between cones.

I had a second round prepared, but, oh well, . . . time slipped away from us. Beware of next time. Round 2 was scheduled to be harder.

COT: Main Announcements: Convergence coming up; Praises: Lutefish’s daughter rocked it; Prayer: let’s continue to pray for children going through difficult times and Badger and his family.

Thanks to everyone, including the “Elders” for their hard work today!

Lastly, I think I missed one of you on the list. So sorry. My memory can only remember 19 out of 20 without a recording. Feel free to identify yourself.

Hump Day… Whatever… Pantheon 4/4

IW x 10
Merkin x 10
PP x 10
Moroccan Nightclub x 20

400M run (down and back)

400M run (down and back)
20 Swerkins (LBC)
400M run (down and back)
20 Knees to Chest

Once complete, we headed to the back lane for Hair Burner Relays
2 teams
Each team performs an exercise while the front men do a hair burner of 100M (50) then Overhead carry back
Exercises will be determined by the winner of the heat…

Mosey back to COT

=================================

NMM:
A couple of thoughts…
– If you are at a workout with Cha-Ching, Straight Up, Longshanks, and/or Jedi, you will likely be behind them. You should know that going in, so you don’t feel bad when it happens.
– Straight Up may not actually be from this planet. Dude is fit…
– CSPAN is still one of the wiser men I know, despite his current injury-related inability to do a proper Merkin…

Helmet, out.

It’s All About Perspective

It was awesome being back at Panteon.  Wednesday is typically a DOR for YHC (day or rest, or day or run). But when it comes to exercise, the human body likes variance and change of routine.  Definitely need to work on that!

Upon arriving a little early to ensure nothing would be obstructing the weinke plans, I saw Fishsticks’ truck and shovel flag, but no Fishsticks.  By 5:15, 4 other pax had gathered, and we figured the SiteQ was out for a run (P200 training, in fact).

Disclaimer was issued and we moseyed around the parking lot to get warmed up before stopping back at the shovel flag for COP.

Warm-up COP

  • SSH x20, IC
  • 1 burpee
  • Windmill x10, IC
  • 2 burpees
  • Imperial Squat Walkers x 20, IC

During the ab work, Fishsticks circled us to reach 8 miles (t-claps!), and offer some encouragement as we rounded out the 45 minutes.

NMMS

A couple times during the workout, we talked about the importance of perspective.  For most of my life, I’ve been involved with soccer as a player, coach, or fan.  Having recently begun officiating, my eyes have been opened wide to the perspective of the referee.  Suddenly, my ears hear criticisms never heard before.  And now I often feel bad for the ref taking the abuse from fellow fans.

Perspective is important for a society to survive.  But ultimately, it’s a Heavenly perspective that is important for our souls.  I’m guilty of only seeing things from the perspective of man, and not from the view of eternal salvation.  The way to better see that perspective is to look through the lens of the Bible by knowing what it says and means!  My biblical lens is small and cloudy, but it’s never too late to get into the Word and improve your view!
