Convergence Before the Invergence

It was rainy, cloudy, dark, in other words perfect weather for a convergence. We had roughly 55-60 PAX out for the variety of workouts that were about to be executed.  Disclaimer disclaimed, FNG identified (Randy from heaven on earth (aka Pittsburgh) , and we launched.

Bootcamp Q : Slapshot

Bootcampers followed me up the hill and towards the springs parking lot. After a quick plank for the 6 we moved onto to the parking lot across 160 behind the former bank and now drug store for the warm-up.

Last 7 minutes: 10 Burpess EMOM (which was reduced to a an 11 of sorts after minute 5 where we started going 10 burpees plus 1 BBS, then 9 burpees plus 2 BBS….etc… until we had about 20 seconds left.

I had everyone recover on their feet and then add 1 last Burpee.

NNM: I spoke today about one of the many examples of what F3 has meant to me. Specifically, the other day I was out for a pre-run where I started out at a “comfortable pace” already deciding in my head what I was “good” with that morning.  Then about 2 miles in I came across a fellow Pax who got to the AO early and decided to go find me. We started to run together and my “comfortable pace” got very uncomfortable very quickly. All told, when we got back to COT I had increased the pace I was running at by over 35 seconds. He literally found me where I was, didn’t leave me behind, and pushed me to accelerate. It is what I needed then, and it’s what I needed 5 years ago when I started F3. I never knew how fast I could run, until I started running with faster guys. That Friday morning was a great reminder that I can always push more, that I have plenty of gas left in the tank, and that somewhere out in the gloom a brother is willing to go find you and get you better. Whether you are accelerating 1F or the 2nd and 3rd, run with faster guys and don’t just be comfortable. You never really know what you are capable of until you push just a little bit more.

Running Q Bandcamp

Speaking of Running with faster guys…Bandcamp executed a 10K route where he was able to hit a PR. The route went all over the downtown Fort Mill area. Again, men surround yourself with HIMS you never know what you’re going to be able to do.

The Thang:

10 each of Arm Curl and Press, tricep ex. and overhead press. Grabbed bells and went for a stroll around the park. Bells always farmered carried. We used the park equipment to tell us what to do. Each Swing 20 swings, Statues 30 Standing Tesh with squat each arm Bathrooms = 20 squats same set as the start upon our return.

Photobombed Selfie

Attendance was light today. Sawdust is still nursing an injury, so he does his own thing. But it is important to point out that he is still posting! Maximus and Mainframe have signed themselves up for some next level stupid this weekend. So their plan was to stretch and move around a little to stay on taper. That left YHC and Photobomb for the standard Ranch content of the day.

WARMUP:
Moving warmup.
– Mosey to small drop off circle and complete 25 SSH in cadence and 10 windmill in cadence
– Mosey past the playground to the large parking lot. Complete 10 Imperial Walkers in cadence and stretch out the hamstrings (was a little tight after Kitchen Sink)

THE THANG:
Mosey to the back of the Home bleachers.
Ladder:
– 9 pull-ups on the bleachers
– Run to the second light pole on the right in the parking lot
– 1 rep of either a flying squirrel with a plank jack (YHC and bad shoulder) or a Burpee (PhotoBomb)
– Run back to the bleachers and continue the ladder series

Had some shenanigans planned for the field, but those involved some things not ideal for Photobomb’s back issues, so we audibled.

Mosey back to the starting parking lot where we found the rest of the PAX in some strange positions. We stopped short because we didn’t want to get too close.

100 squats together. One guy squats while the other ran the parking lot. 2 laps each and then we switched to a bear crawl chase. One PAX bear crawls while the other runs the loop until they catch the bear crawler and they switch. Remember the bad shoulder, yeah dumb idea.

WARMUP: SSH x30, Windmills x10, M. Nightclubs x10, Plank, Parker Peters x10, Plank, Peter Parkers x10, broga poses to stretch legs. Mosey around the Long Loop.
THE THANG: Short Loop in the Earth Fare parking lot, each corner complete exercise. 1st corner = 10 Merkins. 2nd corner = 10 Mountain Climbers. 3rd corner = 10 CDDs, 4th = 10 Flying Squirrels. Next complete a hot lap on the long loop, up to 160 take the sidewalk to the east entrance of Earth Fare, proceed at a fast pace around the back of Earth Fare. I believe the short lap + long lap was about a half a mile.

ALCATRAZ 10 YR ANNIVERSARY PARTY

PRE-WORKOUT: Pullups with Trucker

WARMUP: Run back and forth two times in the Runde parking lot

THE THANG:

After a brief introduction including some history of Alcatraz, Funhouse kicked off COP with 50 SSH, (although I believe 100 were planned in homage to Santini). From there it was imperial walker x 10, hillbilly walker x 10. Before we got to the meat of the workout, YHC called out a classic Alcatraz upper body workout called Green Sally (Decibel/2014). It’s a song by Moby called ‘Flower’ where you plank when he sings ‘Green Sally Up’ and drop to 6″ when he sings ‘Green Sally Down’. It’s pretty tough to complete the whole song and I don’t think anyone did today. But, you have to have monster shoulder strength. Because we had a large group today, we split them in half and started our Q’s:

Each PAX gets a cone with an excercise and reps.
40 yard diameter circle with a cone in the middle.
Do the excercise on the cone, run to the middle and out to the cone to the right.

Mosey to the playground for pullups, step ups, and ab exercises (Senator Tressel/2013) We did 2 rounds today

Mosey to the wall by the concessions stand and split into two groups.
Group 1 does Peoples chair and passes a kettle bell (White Lightning/2018), while Group 2, runs to the fence, hops over it, sprints up the hill, does 3 burpees at the top, and runs back to the wall. Flapjack. (Jekyll/2017) We did 2 rounds today.

COT: Today we celebrated 10 years at Runde Park by paying homage to some of the classic beatdowns led by the great Q’s of Alcatraz. Funhouse and I drew an Alcatraz record 32 Pax and that made me very proud (of course, we advertised heavily, offered free coffee, beer, cake, and closed the other two Saturday AO’s so maybe that had something to do with it – LOL). Although, attendance at bootcamps on Saturdays isn’t what is used to be, I will post whenever I am able. Runde Park has been my home on Saturday mornings, and even after all these years, I still look forward to getting up early, meeting the Pax at 6:30, and doing that tough bootcamp workout. Many thanks to all that posted with us this morning and special thanks to our current and former site Q’s: Funhouse, Smuggler, Trucker, Skipper, and Uber for their leadership and help pulling this all together. I appreciate all you guys!

WARMUP: IC exercises and stretches
THE THANG: mosey to side wall at teeter for wall work that included wall sits and Moroccan nightclubs while 1 pax ran to other side and performed 5 flying squirrels and ran back. Next round included Mike Tyson’s on the wall while pax ran out and performed 5 burpees. Alternating to wall plank and then wall sits until complete. More moseying behind teeter for curb 7’s that had us bearcrawling to one curb for incline merkins and crab walk back for dips. More mosey for partner AROD hill work at the apartments. One partner ran up to the firehouse and back while other partner performed 300 lbcs, 200 squats, 100 merkins.

Fellowship at 7 – 11s

WARMUP: Not much. Did a quick lap around the parking lot then that’s it

THE THANG:
11s for 11 Years of The Fort
This was not a typical 11s workout, more like a mini board of pain. 11 rounds of 11 reps of 11 exercises. Do all 11 reps of each of the 11 exercises in a row, then run a lap, then repeat.
Exercises were:

During the workout, when we could breathe/talk, I asked each PAX how has F3/The Fort impacted your lives. We all know it served a need. There was a void or need of some sort that after being EHd you decided to answer and try to fulfill that need. The 1st F was the magnet, the 2nd became the glue, and the 3rd F, however you define it, made things explode. But it all started with a need we all had that we felt F3 could fulfill. That need turned into motivation, that motivation drove discipline, and the PAX you bonded with helped hold you accountable. Each of us shared our need, our why – what drove us to F3, and what keeps us coming back day after day, year after year. Inspiring stories for sure, and it helped us get to know each one of us better. Then I challenged each PAX to think about that, and look for similar signs in every guy you interface with on a daily basis. Do they have a need or why that F3/The Fort could possibly fulfill? It’s not just ‘sad clown’ syndrome, that is a great way to put it for sure, but what needs are not being addressed that F3/The Fort could help with?
We spoke in depth during the entire workout. It was awesome.
BUT…..due to time constraints we were only able to get 7 rounds in (maybe 6? we lost count). GREAT efforts and fellowship by all!

NOTE: This weinke WILL show up again and be made an hour workout….

Group Therapy

WARMUP: Ran to back parking lot of middle school for a quick set of exercises and some broga. Exercises included SSH, windmill, low slow squat, Maracan night clubs, toy soldiers and butt kickers.

THE THANG:
Bonsai portion of the Q:
Nur to rock bed down by light post to grab a rock for the following.

15 INC chest press on your six
15 INC lat raises
15 INC curls

Sir Top Hat portion:
Moved back up to half wall behind elementary for 8’s. It’s been a while since he has been to a workout so he forgot we could only count to 7.
Burpee and muscle ups on wall

STH had a few extra minutes left because all the men were such studs and cruised right through the workout without a problem.
Wall sits with 15 heel raises mixed in for two cycles.

Weezer’s portion:

75 merkins
100 squats – most of us didn’t listen very well and did 125
125 LBCs.

Cyclops portion:
Back down to the light poles, Long Duck was expressing his displeasure about how we kept moving him around back and forth between locations.
Each light pole – 9 merkins, 12 squats. I think we got to 4 before time to head to COT. On the way back to COT, Cyclops thought we should do 5 more burpees, but Barkley, Rebound and YHC bat flipped and kept running. We wanted to make sure we made it in time.
