FNGs – 12th Man,  Liberty

Thirteen men, young and less young represented at Guidance some on their 1st posting of the day and others (Davinci) on their 2rd.  Thank you to all the Pax that showed up to be a support to these young men through these formative!  Through our new format with these young men, there is more to be learned than I could possibly teach about life.  More on the workout in a bit but here are a few lessons that I took from the young men that are influencing me.

  1. One young man, Curry, was not into the work out at the beginning. I’m not sure why he showed up in his oxford buttoned shirt, jeans and untied shoes.  His day was not going well and he didn’t want to be with us and he really didn’t want to be anywhere.  But he came anyway.  I learned from Curry that sometimes you have to go through the motions, keep putting one foot in front of the other and life will turn.  By the end of the work out he was engaged and having as much fun as anyone.
  2. Running back the half mile from the park to the home, the distance felt to some of these boys to be more like 5 miles rather than a half mile. Given that there was a burpee penalty on the line for every 15 seconds past time that the 6 came in.  I watched boys that didn’t hardly know each other putting their arms around each other and leaders coming back to get the 6.  They were supporting each other, helping each other meet the goal.  I learned the power of walking through life with someone so that when you are down and need the motivation you have someone to lock shields with to finish strong.
  3. At the end of the work out we asked who was going to co-Q the next work-out and no fewer than 3 young men wanted some of that action. This was a complete turn from the first part of the work out as hardly any wanted to go work out but by the end they were ready to lead.  I don’t understand the power of driving that inner force within in us but it works.  F3 is sharpening men and you can see it start to move within these young men even in their first work outs.

The post started with a little stretching not to loosen up the muscles but to cut the tension a bit and to engage in some 2nd F to get the young men comfortable and engaged.  Then we moseyed to the top of the hill, where Yzerman took over Q for a short COP.

10 – Merkins

15 – SSH

15 – Squats

15 – Mountain Climbers

Continue our mosey down to the Park for some wall work.  Partner up.

Partner 1 – step ups, Partner 2 run x2

Partner 1 – Dips, Partner 2 run x2

Plank competition for a grand prize.  Form may have been lacking here but there was some pain none the less as some strange noises were coming from the Pax.  My man Curry, won the prize and became the Shark/Bear in a game of Bears and Minnows x2

Mosey the half mile back up the hill to the home then COT.

With a single message during our time building a deeper understanding of Maturity.  I am humbled to try to help these men understand the trial they find themselves in but I’m confident that God has a plan and I pray that they can yield to His hand in their lives.  It was a privilege and honor to lead these young men and I pray that I had a fraction of an impact on them that they had on me.

F3 Shirts for Residents at CAH are Available

  • QIC: Reborn/Chicken Hawk/Smiley Face/NASA
  • When: 04/29/17
  • Pax: Rock & Fort Mill Region PAX
  • Posted In: Guidance

THE SHIRTS HAVE ARRIVED!!!!!!

PAX, If you have been to a workout at Guidance since we relaunched at the beginning of this year, I am sure you have heard some of the young men who live at the home mention they would like to have F3 shirts to wear during the workouts and to other places during the week. For those of you who haven’t been yet, I would encourage you to join in one Saturday when we are there to experience the fellowship with these young men with whom we are impacting in ways you won’t even imagine.

OUR NEXT WORKOUT IS THIS SATURDAY AT 1600 WITH CHICKEN HAWK ON Q!!!

So, to answer the request of the young men, Chicken Hawk and I have been discussing the best way to get shirts that would benefit all involved. We have decided, and have received approval, to go through the F3 Foundation to get F3 Shirts for the PAX. We have also set some guidelines to be able to receive a shirt which are described below.

If you are interested in supporting the donation of shirts, see the PreBlast Chicken Hawk recently posted and follow the instructions given about gaving through the Foundation so the funds are returned to the Fort Mill & Rock Regions.

http://f3nation.com/2017/04/01/f3-foundation-f3f-introduction-the-fortrock/

36-shirts of multiple sizes HAVE BEEN delivered to YHC’s home for distribution once the PAX at CAH have met the guidelines. We ordered 36 shirts so the cost would be lowered to $12/shirt.

Guidelines to receive a shirt: 1) Show genuine interest in F3 and what its Mission is, 2) Attend at least 3 Guidance Workouts, and 3) Lead a Portion of a Guidance Workout.

Finally, T-Claps to Malko of Mudgear for giving the shirts at a reduced rate and to the F3 Foundation to supporting this endeavor.

What a great day to spend time with the young men at the CAH! Conditions were stellar with bountiful sunshine and a perfect 55 degrees. 15 total, including 6 super strong youth, spoke about wisdom and passing the tests in life with an open book. Here’s what we did.

The Thang

  • 20 Side Straddle Hops (IC)
  • 15 Imperial Walkers
  • 15 Low Slow Squats
  • 15 Merkins at the request and led by King Hawk
  • 20 Moroccan Night Clubs (crowd pleaser)
  • 10 Windmills

Mosey to the field behind the CAH

  • Run from one side to the other. Repeat
  • Nur from one side to the other.
  • High Knees from one side to the other. Repeat.
  • Butt Kickers from one side to the other. Repeat.
  • Karaoke from one side to the other. Repeat.
  • Shuffle from one side to the other. Repeat.
  • Bear Crawl from one side to the other. Repeat.
  • Crab Walk from one side to the other. Repeat.
  • Long run around the track. 2 laps.
  • Circle up for The Ring of Fire – plank and pushups from 1 to 5.
  • Stretches (L over R, R over L, Middle)
  • 15 Dips, Derkins, and Irkins on the bleachers
  • Shampoo the DDI above
  • Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes from Plank position (listen for the call then tap the body part called out)

Discuss Wisdom

Long Mosey to the fields above the CAH for some racing

  • Pair up with someone your same speed
  • Line up across the field from them
  • On the count of three, race across the field. The winner calls the exercise for the other team. The winner encouraged the other team while they did the following exercises:
    • Merkins
    • LBCs
    • Diamond Merkins
    • Burpees
    • SSHs
    • And others I can’t seem to remember…

Mosey back to the COT

NMM

I cannot tell you how proud I am of these young men for the efforts they put into the workout. Travolta and Curry are SUPER FAST and never seem to run out of gas. Izerman and OBJ pushed hard today and were very strong on the pushups. King Hawk met every workout with an “aw man,” but seemed to enjoy it when he accomplished the exercise. Most impressive today was Chihuahua who tried harder than anyone and quit on nothing. We could all learn a lot from his efforts. Welcome FNG – Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em. Pretty cool name for a guy that loves his socks. Great name suggestion by Travolta.

As a reminder, knowledge comes from learning, wisdom comes from living. Wisdom is often learned from experiences where things didn’t turn out the way we expected. We are tested daily and are rarely prepared for the challenge. Sometimes we are able to take the test with resources to help us succeed. We see those times as having an open book to refer to during the test. Our book is the Bible and in it are all the answers we need. But the only way we can be prepared is to study the book for the answers to the challenges ahead. Pray, study, read, share, and grow. That is the recipe for wisdom.

Aye!

FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS: Calling all Fort and Rock Pax

10/28/16
UPDATE:
I just got our work assignments.  We received 5 work orders for tree removal and 1 for house muckout (remove drywall, carpet, etc).  We will need to bring tools (chainsaws, axes, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, leaf blower, etc) like we did last week and additional tools (flat nosed shovels, hammers, sheetrock knives, wheelbarrows, etc) and safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, dust masks, etc) this week.

The current plan is that we will meet at the Lowes by Baxter at 5:00 and leave for Conway, SC.  We would complete work at about 2:00 or 3:00 so that we can return for trick-or-treating with our families.  We will need to bring lunches and water.

Please DM @darkhelmetf3 or email me: frankschwartz@me.com with your HCs.

10/21/16
UPDATE:
Work crews leaving out tomorrow. We will need help next week as well, so please check your calendars and let me know if you can make it. Here’s the details for tomorrow’s work.

Everyone,
We have been assigned 6 work orders to remove fallen trees (some greater than 18″ diameter) in the Bishopsville area.  We will be meeting tomorrow morning at the Lowe’s in Baxter at 6:00 am and will be leaving at 6:15. This will put us in Bishopsville at about 8:00.

We will be splitting into 2 groups and each group will have a team leader and will work on 3 work orders.  We will carpool and drive down as groups since the groups will be working at different addresses.

The teams are a mix of F3 Pax and Men (and one M) from my church. Again, there will be opportunity to go again next weekend, so LET ME KNOW.

We need to bring the following tools and we will split them up between the 2 groups:

Chainsaws (I think 5 were volunteered and so please bring them along with gas, oil, sharpening tools or whatever else would be needed)
Crowbars
Rakes
Axes
Wheelbarrows

Bring what you need to work safely.
In order to ensure we are as safe as possible while working on these projects, remember not to work after dark when good visibility is no longer possible, and please be sure to bring:

  • Safety glasses / goggles
  • Work boots or sturdy closed toe shoes
  • Work gloves
  • Pants (not shorts)

We need to bring our own lunch and water.  The team leaders will bring a cooler for water and drinks to be put in.

We will work until 5:30 or 6:00 and so if we finish our work orders early then we will see if there are other neighbors in the area that would like some help.  We can then find a place to eat in Bishopsville or head home.

10/19/16
UPDATE:
Flood waters are finally starting to recede on the coast in some areas to a point where we can get in to help. I don’t have all the details yet. They should be forthcoming soon, but here is what I know and what I need at this point.
WHAT I KNOW AT THIS POINT:
Early Saturday morning we are looking for strong backs and weak minds to travel to Myrtle Beach and Florence, SC to start the debris clearing. This means that we will need willing men, chainsaws, hand saws, loppers, shovels, possibly wheelbarrows, etc. We will be heading back that evening on this go around. (We will likely be doing an overnight trip next week once the mucking out of houses and such begins. Flood waters are not allowing for this in most areas at this time, is what I understand.) We will also be taking donations down with us. We will take the water that has been collected to now, and any other that we may be able to collect between now and then…
WHAT I NEED AT THIS POINT:
Your HCs ASAP! Hit me on twitter: @darkhelmetf3 (I’ll follow you back so we can share contact info if needed) and tell me if you can make it. It will be a very early start and a fairly late return that day.

Men, I know that there are TONS of ways to help right now, and TONS of places we could do it. If this doesn’t fit you, that’s ok, just help somewhere. However, this is what we are being asked to do for right now. It may seem like a small thing, but it will make a big difference.

10/11/16
UPDATE:
Pax, I thought it would be good to give an update on where things stand with the relief efforts. There is much more damage and many more problems than we anticipated in SC, GA, and NC than we (in the Fort) have resources to take care of. It’s important to remember that we will hear of needs all over. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do it all. I often get frustrated and sad that we can’t just fix it, but so be it.

That said, at this time, we are in a holding pattern. The storm surge is continuing to rise in many of those areas, and over the next 48 hours or so there will be continued flooding and other problems that will continue to arise. It will likely be this weekend and into next week before we can safely enter any of those areas. So, as hard as it is, hang tight. Please keep letting me know about the needs that you hear of and about your individual availability to travel (possibly overnight) to affected areas over this weekend and into (and through) next week. Also, keep your eyes on the Twitter machine and FB, etc. for further updates.

Thank you, men, for all you do.
Helmet, out.

10/8/16
Almost one year to the day from our relief efforts in Columbia, SC, and here we go again. Our brothers (F3), but maybe even more importantly, the communities where our brothers and sisters (God’s children) live are feeling the force and will soon be digging out from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew.

I am in contact with some of our coastal Pax and with members and leaders of my Church to try and get updates on needs. I imagine that there will be needs for donations, much like we had for Columbia (water, food, fuel, etc.), and also we want to organize work crews to go down as needed. At this point (10/8/16, 1700hrs), I know of many downed trees, lots of flooding, etc., but we do not know yet what can be done or when. Many communities (whole counties actually) have not started letting residents back in yet.

Here is what I need from you. I need to know if you can plan to go down with crews sometime in the coming days and weeks to administer relief. This will likely consist of delivering supplies, clearing roads, removing debris, and gutting homes and businesses that were flooded. We will need tools, strong backs, and donations. As soon as I know more, I will amend this post.

Again, at this point, if you can comment on this post, or DM me on Twitter, as to whether you can go and what days, that will help to start. Also, if you know of needs or people that are in those areas organizing efforts there, that would be great to know also.

Aye!
