Honor of Cash

Today, we honored Cash, hospital name Jay Griggs, who passed away in Sept 2020 of cancer. He was given the name “Cash” as in Johnny Cash due to his all black outfit he worn at his first workout along with his hometown of Nashville, TN. The Coop was renamed “Ring of Fire” in honor of Cash. Double D shared stories through the workout. Cash was a genuine person who was always ready to help out a friend.
Jekyll provided me with a backblast from 2015 where Cash was in attendance. I decided to copy it on a piece of paper and unfortunately dropped it in the gloom so it did not match the exact workout.
We first moseyed to the front entrance of the school for COP (SSHs, IWs, Windmills, Cherry Pickers, Plank Stretches, and Mountain Climbers)
Next, we moseyed to the gym wall for People’s Chair with each pax running out to the parking lot for 5 merkins. One round of Balls to the Wall.
The lights came on making it easier to navigate, mosey to the ROTC building.
Dirty McDeuce (3 exercises, 12 reps) Run to the top of the hill, 5 burpees and back down to starting point.
R1: Merkins, LBCs, Lunges
R2: Wide Arm Merkins, Hello Dollies, Squats
R3: CDD, Flutters, Jump Squats
R4: Stagger Merkins, X/Os, Calf Raises

Back to the top of the hill near the school
Three rounds of toe touches, Dips, Derkins (12 reps)

Back to COT
Closed with Cash’s prayer

Search me Lord. Lead me to you. Help me to be a good man, a good father, a good husband and a good employee. Help me to forgive and release from resentment those that I feel have offended me. Let me see the good in others and draw that goodness out of them.

The Final Countdown

The day finally arrived for our CSAUP, The FInal Countdown. The rainy weather was not ideal, but it helped keep the temperature and humidity down for ideal running conditions. 67 men participated in the event. Most groups participated in the relay. Ruckers and trail runners fought the elements and got their work done to.
Relay details:   The first Pax will run 3 miles and return to the starting point.  The 1st and 2nd Pax will run 3 miles and return to the starting point. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd runner will run the final 3 miles.  Each route will be unique.  If you get lost, just run 3 miles and return back to the park.

Total miles:  3+3+3 = 10 F3 math   (Runner 1 – 9 miles, Runner 2 – 6 miles, Runner 3 – 3 miles)

Inspiring stuff this morning. River Rat’s 2.0s ran the course like it was a lap around the track. Lots of guys ran distances they have never run before.
We’ve got a good pool of runners for the upcoming Dam to Dam Relay.

Great job by everyone this morning!

Remembering Badger

Thirty-five of Fort Mill’s finest gathered at Springfield Elementary to honor a brother who left us too early:  Matt Giesler, aka Badger.   Matt was originally from Wisconsin but made his home in SC with his wife Becky and his three children Brayden, Ashlyn, and Carsten.   Badger was a neighbor and friend to me, Decibel, Trucker, and Jiffy, and this morning, his fellow brothers of The Fort joined us for a brisk morning workout.  Here is what we did:

The Thang:

Senator Tressel led the pax on a short lap around the drop-off lane of Springfield Elementary before ending up in the adjacent field for COP.

All in double count cadence:

SSH x 25, IW x 25, merkin x 10, windmill x 15, mountain climber x 25, Freddie Merc x 25, hello dolly x 25, squat x 25

Line up next to the set of cones:

Round 1:  Lungewalk to 1st cone, 5 squats, continue to 2nd cone, 10 squats, continue to 3rd cone, 15 squats, run backwards to the start.

Round 2:  Bear crawl to 1st cone, 5 squats, ….., run backward to the start

Round 3:  Run to the last cone, 10 burpees, and run backward to the start

Handoff to Decibel:

Do the following exercises with a lap around the field between each:

MERKINS X25
ALTERNATING LUNGES X25
TOE TAPS X25
TONY HAWK BURPEE X15
GORILLA HUMPER X20
IMPERIAL WALKER X20
EMPTY WHEELBARROW
SQUATS X20
LBCs  X39
E2K X20 EACH SIDE
ROSALITA X25

Heals to Heaven x25

Naked Man Moleskin

ST’s comments:

I was truly touched by the number of men who showed up today to honor Badger.  I know that many of the men did not know him, but it meant a lot to us to have such a large group together as we remembered Badger.    It was another reminder to me of what a special thing we have at F3 here in Fort Mill and how much my F3 brothers mean to me.

Decibel’s thoughts:
It is hard to believe that it has been 4 years since Badger went to be in heaven.  I
was blessed to spend time with him prior to his passing.  We talked about him
being saved and how important that was to him.  He let me know that his M was a
big reason he was saved but also saw my family’s reaction to losing our
daughter and son and our dependence on God at that time.  I am saying this to let
you know as Christians people watch our actions and want to make sure our
actions match our words.  I encourage every Christian brother in F3 to live out
your faith and in times of need lean on God just like Badger did in his time.
My M and I received a letter from Badger.  In that letter he mentioned F3 and the
support he and his family received after the diagnosis.  I remember him just being
in awe of all the people that were praying for him.  He was so touched by this
community that he asked that I make sure that his boys get involved in F3.  They
would have been there today, but his youngest wasn’t feeling well. To have 35
men in our community support Badger is amazing.
Badger was a man I respected to the utmost.  He was not a guy that sought
attention or glory, but he was always there when you needed him.  He loved his
family and was a loyal friend.  I am still in awe of how he bravely prepared to walk
into heaven.  It was so comforting to know he was going to see Jesus.  He told
me many times that he would take care of our babies (Elizabeth Grace and
Garrett) until we met up with him.  Badger was a great Father and I know he is
having a blast with my kids in heaven.
Let us all take this time to pour into, support, love on and encourage our F3
brothers. Then take that momentum and turn it to our families.  Then take that
momentum and pour it out on the least and the lost in our community.  Badger
knew that God had a purpose for him and that purpose was to spread the word of
God’s Grace and Love.  Let’s make that happen for him.

Prayers and Praises – as spoken during COT

Announcements:  F3 The Fort 10 year anniversary starts this week.  Check Slack for the schedule of events.

Bell repeats

WARMUP: Mosey for a short lap then circle up for SSHs, Windmills, Low slow squats, Merkins, and Hillbilly Walkers.
THE THANG: I’m a big fan of simple yet difficult. So I stole some things from rucking and repurposed them.
First thing was 15 min AMRAP of the following 3 things:
15-High pulls, 15-Swings, and 15-Overhead squats.
Not going to lie, I thought we were close to time and then looked at watch and it said 7 minutes. Finished up then moved over to far parking lot.
Buy-in=4 line suicide with 5 bombjacks at each line
8 rounds of the following:
5 Burpees
8 Curls
8 Triceps
8 Mountain Climbers
8 Merkins w/bell pull thru
We got through about 5 rounds before time was running short. So finished up with run across lot for 10 bombjacks then grab the bells and head back to COT.
Finished with 10 bell overhead big boys and 10 flutters.

I definitely don’t do kettlebell workouts enough. I need to do a better job of working it into my rotation. I also need to be better prepared. I thought Uhual would bring some music but he didn’t show this morning. So the PAX made up for it in mumblechatter. I appreciate all the PAX coming out this morning and Battle-bot for the Q opportunity.

Let Go of the Those Little Burdens

WARMUP: Dynamic Run Warmup, followed by dynamic plank warm-up with a lot of upward<>downward dog interspersed
THE THANG: Each pax picked up (2) 2# weights (removed from my weight vest). Goal was to hold these for the remainder of the workout.
Round 1: Jack Webs 1-10 low-slow merkins with 4-40 overhead raises with some short hill running as the “rest period”
Round 2: 11’s- 1-10 bomb jacks and 10-1 seal jacks with short flat run in between
Round 3: wall sits for 4-count x10 reps of the following: curls, OH press, front raises, lateral raises, punches, and arm circles all with short mosey in between
Round 4: curb sit-up get-up 6, 5, 4 reps mixed with curb burpees 1, 2 reps (did not complete this round)
ANNOUNCEMENTS: prayers for @stinger’s friend Tommy with medical issues
COT: My group moseyed in about 4 mins late to meet the #ao-snakepit pax.
As prefaced on Slack, this was a Jekyll-inspired Q from one of the worst I’ve ever posted for. That being said, the worst part about this Q he had at the Ranch about 4 or 5 years ago was that instead of holding warm sand-filled little bags that we held today, Jekyll suggested holding 2 irregularly-shaped icebergs (rocks) for the 45 mins. I can still remember the pain I experienced in my hands after that workout to this day. I felt like a 90-year arthritic seamstress.
HOWEVER, the message I carry from that day still rings true. Two 2# bags are not heavy, but if you carry those little burdens long enough, that’ll weigh on you. Sometimes we’re not ready or feel we’re not able to let them go. Reach out to fellow pax, your church, family, friends. You all have people that love you that are willing to help. Will you let them? Are you ready to let these little burdens go?
Thanks to Cohiba for the opportunity to lead.
Hope you all enjoyed getting #squatched!
