4 minutes until the Kraken

Nice and warm for a Colosseum WO and a Flag Handoff.

With a FNG present we included the 5 core principles and the F3 mission. I started the “clock” which meant that every 4 minutes throughout the course of the workout each PAX would do 5 Kraken Burpees. With that I got into the warmup.

100 SSH (IC)
15 Merkins (IC)

So for the majority of this workout we ran to separate spots from the Colosseum Shovel Flag to the Carolina Eye Center Parking Lot. We would stop along the way where I would call different exercises in Cadence in this order.

5 Merkins (IC)
10 LBC’s (IC)
15 (Flutters IC)
20 HD (IC)
25 (Squats Low Slow IC)

As we ran back towards COT we stopped briefly into the “purple light” near the Tega Cay Coffee Truck. Everyone wondered where the glow sticks and foam pit was. Good questions obviously but it was not a rave or a college basement party so we did more Kraken Burpees.

As we approached the final few minutes Backdraft complained there were not enough squats so I obliged with 50 low slow squats that segwayed nicely into 5 more Kraken Burpees.

Got back to COT where we executed a Flag handoff to Rebound and named a FNG Blacklight.

All in all it was a good workout where we ended up with about 50 Kraken Burpees and around 150 Merkins, 180 LBC’s and just about 2 miles (slightly over or under depending on the watch)

Always honored for the lead and for the opportunity.

Thank you!

COT:
Shot for the Prayer of St. Francis, but didn’t quite have the thing memorized. Memorize is my word of the year, I’m working on it.

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life.
Amen.

An honor to lead such a solid crew.

Site Q 601 Q-School

First edition of Site-Q … Q-School began on a surprisingly moist Tuesday morning. After a quick disclaimer we moseyed to the pavilion near the football field to share some reminders and just a few burpees.

Theme of the day : Stewardship. How as site Q’s are we stewards of F3’s Mission, our individual sites, and our fellow Pax? While this message was geared towards Site Q’s it’s one I think should resonate with all Pax.

Part 1: The Mission.

After getting to the pavilion we circled up and planked up. I asked the PAX what are F3’s 5 core principles. Which thankfully everyone got. Then a question on our credo. (Leave no man behind…leave no man where we found him). Did a quick 10 merkins IC.

Then I asked the assembled PAX what is F3’s mission? Most Pax Struggled with this question. Thankfully, Maximas was there to rescue his fellow PAX. With the reminder that F3’s core mission is to Plant, Grow, and Serve small workout groups for the invigoration of Male Community Leadership.

As Site Q’s we play an integral part in ensuring that our Mission as a group is carried out and that we act as a steward of that mission.

Other topics hit during this portion : Scheduling Q’s, culture building at your site, and general safety reminders,

Workout:

It was still a workout after all so we did 10 burpees on the minute every minute for 5 minutes then took a recovery lap around the track.

Came back and planked it up for Part 2

Part 2: The Operation

This section was focused on the nuts and bolts of being a Steward of your site. We discussed on how to work with the Q you schedule prior to the workout to ensure safety, and preparedness. We talked about how to market the site, and some best practices around timing and creativity. We also touched on safety, ensuring someone (especially the site q) has a phone with them and ensuring that the workout Q is aware of potential risks to the PAX and of the site. (I.E. traffic, footing,). Also, it’s important for the Site Q to act as a “sweeper” during a workout. Again, going back to our credo, we do not let anyone behind.

This is also where the Site Q must act as a steward of the site they oversee. We are guests at these locations. As a result, be mindful that we shouldn’t jump fences, drag cinder blocks, or damage property in any way.

Workout:

6-minute Emom 5 burpees 10 squats

Recovery Lap.

Part 3: COT

I wanted to separate COT out as a separate Category because of how much it differentiates us from other workout groups. Different PAX here shared what COT is to them and it shows why it’s so important conceptually. With that I imparted on the Site Q’s how important it is to embrace your role at COT by facilitating a positive experience for FNG’s. that means (during the workout) sticking with them, encouraging them, and ensuring that you capture their information.

Workout:

5 Minute EMOM

5 Squats 15 HR Merkins

With time running short, we had one last exchange about how to think about succession planning. Who else is willing to step up, who can we identify as the next guy to embrace the mission and steward it on to fellow PAX throughout the region. As site Q’s go this is something that should be top of mind early in your tenure. A key part of being a good steward is to leave something better than you have found it and in good hands.

Run to COT.

Final Thoughts:

We are really blessed with the men we have leading AO’s here in the Fort. Today was a great example of that as we had a great interactive session with some key reminders of why it is we do this each morning. For those looking for more detailed information on the points covered I’d encourage you to check out the Site Q handbook located within the Site-Q channel. More importantly, I’d ask all men of the Fort to remind themselves and familiarize yourselves with our mission. Remind yourself WHY it is we do what we do.

We, all of us, are fulfilling a need in our communities and are very lucky we can lean on each other and build from one another.

Thanks to all who showed!

Honored to Lead!

Wheel of Gloom!!!

It was a little rainy but a lot windy for the Stockade debut of the Wheel of Gloom.

For those unfamiliar the wheel of gloom is each Pax taking turns spinning the Wheel. Each spot on the wheel denotes a workout with reps. Each rep is one point for the spinner… but all Pax do the exercises.

Exercises included burpees, Merkins, jump squats, LBCs, Freddy Mercury’s, Big Boys, among others.

The lighting round was a wheel of fortune type routine with correct letters earning points and wrong guesses resulting in LBCS.

Masterpiece solved the puzzle and racked up some big points.

Final round was a 1:00 minute Diamond Merkin Off between Masterpiece and Grassy Knoll.

Grassy won the final round and was given the chance to take a 4-pack of delicious White Claw OR choose what was in the box. Thankfully he chose the box and got a nice variety pack courtesy of Slapshots beer fridge. Masterpiece ended up with the Whiteclaw.

The point today was a decent workout with great fellowship. Thankful for those who showed. It was a fun time!

Until next time!

Miles and Smiles at The Stockade

Warm and wet at the Stockade this morning. Once Tsunami and Grinder showed I decided to call and audible and not do the EMOM madness I had planned.

Instead I indulged myself and the fellow PAX with “The Slapshot “ route. Running from the Stockade we went down 160, made the right on Stonecrest, down/up Hubert Graham and then right onto Gold Hill rd. We made a few detours that added some mileage.

As for the cadence we ran for 45 seconds then took a 25 second break for merkins/cool down. After hitting the century mark in merkins we switched to squats.

The chatter and encouragement during this workout was awesome! Grinder provided me a simple solution to a problem that has been bothering me and tsunami pushed himself hard!

It’s something I’ve learned in the almost 4 years in that Some of the best F3 workouts I’ve been a part of is when less than 5 ppl have posted. Extremely thankful for the men who ran with me today… and all the guys who post with me in the past and future!

Until next time!

Reverse Webb- Minnow Pond

7 Pax (6 runners 1 walker) gathered at Vets park this morning. After a welcome reminder from Backdraft we said the pledge and got going.

The Thang:

Reverse Webb.

I had 10 cones split .05 apart along 160 , Clebourne, Main Street and then looped back past Vets park on 160.
Essentially we would run to cone 10, run back to Vets parking lot do 40 reps (split between LBC’s and Merkins) and repeat with Cone 9 (36 reps) Cone 8 (32 reps) etc…etc..

Cone 10 and back to COT 1 Mile 40 reps (20 merkins/20 Lbcs)
Cone 9 and back to COT .9 Mile 36 reps (18 merkins/18 Lbcs)
Cone 8 and back to COT .8 Mile 32 reps (16 merkins/16Lbcs)
Cone 7 and back to COT .7 Mile 28 reps (14 merkins/14 Lbcs)
Cone 6 and back to COT . 6 Miles 24 reps (12 merkins/12 Lbcs)
Cone 5 and back to COT . 5 Miles. 20reps (10 merkins/10 Lbcs)

(This is as far as anyone got)

Things I learned: My Under Armor App and my Apple App do not agree. I measured out the cones using my Under Armor app, but ran the course with my Apple watch. Apparently, I underestimated the mileage on the cones and as a result we all got at least 4 miles in. Two of us got 5 in.

Always honored to lead and was thankful for the men that showed up this morning.

Take care…until next time!

The Battle: Kitchen Sink edition

Nice cool morning here in the greater Tega Cay area. As we were waiting in the parking lot YHC was hoping for at least 1 more pax to show up for what I had planned. Thankfully PETA pulled in at 5:14 and we were ready to go!

Warmup:

25 Merkins IC ( I’m a little disappointed in myself when I struggled with my last rep. I will do better next time)
25 Flutters IC
10 Merkins IC
10 Flutters IC
5 Merkins IC
5 Flutters IC

Mosey to the Tree within the Traffic Circle

Counted off the pax into team 1 and team 2. Facing opposite ways we did a competitive “challenge run” running around the large traffic circle in front of the school. This run required the 6 to do 2 burpees before running to the front. To win each team had to complete 4 laps. Winners got to do 10 Burpees and losers had to do 20. Pax pushed and it was a VERY close race as a result we both won and did 10 burpees.

Mosey to the front of the school.

We began the 2nd portion of the workout doing a Tabata style sequence 45 seconds of work 15 seconds of rest.

2 Rounds of :
HR Merkins
Squats
Diamond Merkins
BBS

After the second round we did a recovery lap and got into the mental battle known as “last man planking” In short we circled up and held plank as long as we could until no one could plank anymore. I would periodically call merkins to “thin the herd”. After calling 5 merkins IC everyone held fast. After calling 6 merkins IC we had 4-5 drop. After calling 7 Merkins IC we had everyone else drop except for YHC and Maximas. With that Maximas was declared the winner and we moved on to COT with just about 7 minutes to go.

With a little under 7 minutes to go of course I called a Burpee EMOM. Started with a round of 10, moved to 11, moved to 12, back down to 11, down to 10, and then one last round of 10. With only 30 seconds left we did a light stretch and 1 more HR merkin for good measure.

Great work by all the men who showed especially Flounder as he sets a great example for all the other PAX.

The Theme today was “the Battle”. Not only the battle we face with competition, or each other but mostly the battle we have with ourselves. How much can you push yourself and how far are you willing to go? Chances are you can go at least “one more rep” you just need to believe you can and people to help push you further.

Thanks for the opportunity! Until Next Time!
