Wild at Heart – Love God…Live Free

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs…ask yourself what makes your heart come alive, because what the world needs is men fully alive”

Why is it that the desires we find deep in our hearts are so far from the lives we find ourselves living?  It is this question and the question of the antidote for this lack of whole heartedness that we will be searching for over the 7-week temporary Third F AO “Wild at Heart”.

This is a journey into whole heartedness guided by a video series from Wild at Heat Ministry – see the trailer HERE!  Each week we will gather to watch the video (each about 20 min) and have some guided discussion over coffee afterwards.  Our hope is this 7-week session will be the beginning of a deeper work to unlock our masculine heart and unleash the impact we are meant to have in the Kingdom.

It’s time to cut through the BS, it’s time to remove the fig leaf, it’s time to stop living from your false self…it’s time to be fully alive!  It’s going to be a wild ride…join us!

When: Each Wed from Aug 18 – Sep 29 at 0615-0715

Where: Springfield Community Clubhouse – 420 Horton Grove Rd, Fort Mill

Schedule is designed so that you can post at 1st F of choice then head straight to the clubhouse for 3rd F.  Coffee/Water will be provided each morning.

Fabulous Four

A small, but dedicated group of four hit the rock this morning for a workout with  sandbags and some old Alcatraz classics.  Here is what they did:

The Thang:

Skipper on Q:

Disclaimer and mosey on the path around the park.  We bypassed the pull up bars for now, but the Pax would  not escape them completely today.  Circle up on the lot for COP:

All in cadence:

SSH x 20, Merkin x 10 (hold plank), Peter parker x 10, Parker peter x 10, MC x 10).  Mosey to the other side of the lot and pick up two sand bags.  Partner up.

Dora 123:  Partner 1 does the exercise while partner 2 carries the sandbag to the basketball hoop, does 5 squats, and returns to the start.

Exercises:  100 diamond merkins, 200 big boy situps, 300 shoulder taps.  At about midway through the shoulder taps, Skpper made the call to modify and swapped squats for shoulder taps, and 10 sandbag throws out and back in place of carrying the sandbag and doing squats (GOOD CALL – I was getting smoked and I believe the others were too!)

Hand off to Senator Tressel

Line up in the field for 40 yd sprints out and back with short recovery.  I believe we did 5 sets, maybe 6.  Recover and walk to the concession stand wall for the Strong Square:

Starting at the wall, assume BTTW and walk on your hands the length of the wall, lunge walk to about the 2nd base line, backwards bearcrawl towards the fire station, and power skip back to the start.  Repeat this 2 more  times.

Mosey to the playground for pull ups (10), reverse step ups (10L/10R), and big boy sit ups (20).  We did 3 sets.

Mosey back to the field for 2 minutes of Mary:  Freddie Merc x 20, Pretzel crunch x 10.

End with 60s of Body Destroyer (my favorite)

COT

It was a pleasure to lead the group today with Skipper.  We had a good mix of newer exercises (seeing a lot of sandbags at workouts these days) and stuff we did years ago (40 yd sprints and walking on your hands).  With a smaller group, we moved from exercise to exercise quickly and didn’t waste a lot of time.  Everyone left it out there today and I felt we gave them their money’s worth.  Well done, men!

Announcements:  Fastest 5K next Saturday, Stuff the bus for Ft. Mill schools, read your newsletter

Prayers/praises:  raising teenagers, families traveling, new job in NY for a college grad, and famlies and friends with cancer.

Milkshake Found and Not Found

Six pax posted for Milkshake with half rucking it.  The route and exercises are in the image below.

Through the walk I presented sayings/things that people generally think are from the Bible…but really are not.  These are:

The forbidden apple in the garden of Eden: Bible does not specify it was an apple.

Three wise men: there was three gifts…but the number of wise men is not specified.

A whale swallowed Jonah: Original translations say a “great fish”.

Money is the root of all evil: 1 Timothy 6:10 actually says that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

God works in mysterious ways: Isaiah 55:8-9 says that God’s ways are different from ours, not mysterious as U2 may want us to believe.

God helps those who help themselves: nope not there. Variations are proverbial statements in ancient Greek tragedies. The Quran (13:11) has something similar. An English politician gave us the exact wording, which Benjamin Franklin quotes in Poor Richard’s Almanac.

But these next sayings are FROM the Bible:

Escaping by the skin of your teeth: Job says he escaped with his life by the skin of his teeth in Job 19:20.

A house divided against itself cannot stand: not honest Abe but Jesus when rebuffing Pharisee charges that he was casting out demons because He was possessed Himself, Jesus uttered the phrase.

A drop in the bucket: To demonstrate the enormity of God, the prophet coins the phrase in Isaiah 40:15: “the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are considered as a speck of dust in the scales.”

Scapegoat: In the Old Testament, two goats were chosen for the Day of Atonement. One was sacrificed, but Leviticus 16:10 speaks of the scapegoat, which was released into the wilderness to carry away the sins of the people.

Writing is on the wall: No one knew what the writing on the wall in Daniel 5 meant, until God gave Daniel the interpretation that the kingdom would be taken away from the king.

Fini.

2021/2022 – Journey Groups Forming Soon – Join Intro. Sessions of Journey

  • QIC: Orange Crush, Spud and Chicken Hawk
  • When: 08/05/2021
  • Posted In: 3rdF, Pre-Blast

Stop for a minute.  Stop checking the boxes, counting up your accomplishments and planning for the future.  Stop doing your side-straddle hops, merkins and burpees.  Stop shuttling your kids to and from practice. Stop working on that honey-do list. Stop standing guard at church, reading that daily devotional… just be still for a moment and ask yourself a question.

“How connected am I to Christ?”  Stop and Ponder.  Are you as connected to him as he has called you to be?  Are you secure in your faith that He is with you through all things? Do you feel his presence when you are on top of the mountain and deep in the valley?

Maybe you have an answer to this question or maybe you are scratching your head on what it even means to be connected to Christ.  In either case, come discover more and enter into a Journey that will take you deeper, farther, wider and to heights that you haven’t experienced before as you learn to connect to and walk with Christ.  WARNING — This Journey is not for the faint of heart and must come with a risk warning that it will absolutely transform your life if you fully engage.

Starting Wednesday, August 4th at 6:30 – 7:30 we will be kicking off a 3-week introduction and study into what the Journey to this place of Abiding in Christ looks like.  The location will be in Kingsly @ Hangin’ w/ Stang

  1. Week 1: August 5 (Hanging w/ Stang -) – Intro.  Orange Crush, Spud and Chicken Hawk
  2. Week 2: August 12 – Cornerstone and Stang
  3. Week 3: August 19 – Cheddar and Olaf

End It Ruck

YHC is issuing a 21 day challenge (culminating with GTE24 on August 6th) for ALL PAX within The Fort.

Beauty out of The Nation has created an End It Ruck challenge and I have felt the call to bring it to our region. The mission is to set fifty individuals free that are currently enslaved in the human trafficking industry. The cost of freedom for someone enslaved in this industry is $6,550. This provides the rescue, post-rescue housing, rehabilitative care, counseling, vocational training, and assistance with assimilation into society for those who have been set free.

The challenge: log as many miles as you can while biking, hiking, paddling, rucking, running, swimming, or however else you please.

The goal: pledge a monetary amount to each mile that you feel comfortable to donate at the end of the 21 days. It could be $.01, it could be $1.00. Whatever it is, let it be something you are comfortable with.

The kicker: YHC will match $1/mile up to 1,000 miles for our group. My M and I have prayed about this and feel this is something we need to be involved in.

You can log your miles here.

More info on End it Ruck here:

https://enditruck.com

More info on the End it Movement here:

https://enditmovement.com

At the end of the challenge you can donate to the End it Ruck here:

https://enditruck.com/donate-here

This mission is something that weighs heavy on my heart, and my goal is to shine a light on this to The Fort.

If you have any questions – hit me up on slack! Now get moving!

Punch List out.

Lakeside Park

Six of the Fort’s finest met at Runde park and answered the call for Alcatraz on the Lake.  Here is what they did.

The Thang:

Full disclaimer with the usual verbiage of ‘I am not a professional, it’s a voluntary workout, modify as needed, can’t sue the Q or F3,  etc..’.   Since we were going into Lake Wylie today, YHC added that if you drown or contract an illness from a waterborne parasite, you also cannot sue the Q or F3.  Off we went…..

The mosey to Pitcarin Park is about 0.6 miles and we had the usual chatter en route.  Cyclops carried the flag as we cruised along and he planted it on a  hill near the lake side.

Senator Tressel on Q

Everybody up on the floating dock for COP  (All in cadence)

IW x 20, merkin x 10, Squat x 20, MC x 20, Freddie Merc x 20, wide arm merkin x 10, Morrocan Nightclub x 40 and start walking toward the stairs at the lower parking lot.

Partner up and wheelbarrow up the stairs to the upper parking lot, across the lot, and up the cement stairs to the picnic benches.  Flapjack with your partner about 1/2 way through.  When you reach the picnic bench, do 20 bomb jacks, run back to the start.

Repeat the wheelbarrow, but with 20 burpees at the picnic benches, run back.

Repeat the wheelbarrow, but do 40 dips at the picnic benches.

Change Order on Q

Mosey down to the upper lot and do a series of ab exercises (Flutters, LBC’s, Protractor, other).

Mosey to the dock, remove your shoes and shirt and jump in the lake.  Tread water for about 5 minutes.

Back on the dock, do some merkins, squats, abs, and then jump back in the lake.  Tread water for about 3 minutes.

Naken Man Moleskin

Lake Day is always fun and it’s a good opportunity to do something a little different with the bootcamp.  I said at the beginning that this workout is more fun than intense, and that was mostly true today (there were some complaints, though about the 20 burpees following the long wheelbarrow sequence).

Cyclops, Bonsai, and Fishsticks all showed some great form today with cannon balls, can openers, and a flying frog dive off of the dock – well done men!   Treading water is not really hard, but doing it for just 5 minutes can tire you out, and I think we were all feeling it after the 2nd go round.

It was another great day at Alcatraz and it’s always a  blast to be with my F3 buddies on Saturday mornings.    I attached the picture we took after the workout.  It took me a few tries to get the pic, and I was called out for my less than deft ability at using an Iphone camera.      I’ll have to work on that for next time.    Oh, and the title of the backblast is a Rush reference (huge fan here, RIP Neal Peart).

Circle up for Mary (all in cadence)

Flutter x 15, pretzel crunch x 15,superman x 3 (25 sec hold), hello dolly x 15.  Finish up with the Body Destroyer.

COT

I am slowly getting back to Qing workouts after a long absence.  This was my second Q since March.  I really enjoyed today’s Q and it was great to see my old F3 friends who I’ve missed a lot this past year.  Also good to see  Dojo and Naked/Afraid again.  The three of us were together at Footloose not long ago.

I really took to F3 when I started about 9 years ago.  I loved the workouts from the get-go, and know I’m a better man through the various 2nd and 3rd F  activities I’ve been a part of since 2012.  I consider myself lucky that I can still do this,  and I don’t take it for granted.  My guess is that the 6 guys who joined me this morning also feel the same way.   We are truly a blessed and lucky bunch.

Prayers and praises:  Residents of the Miami, FL condo collapse, ST’s friend with cancer, mother with dementia, mother in law with illness.

NMM

We are blessed to have the opportunity to do hard things, not out of obligations to survive, but out of choice. Amongst many others, we have the freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. We have the right to assemble in the Gloom and to close our workouts in a prayer of our choice. As we celebrate 245 years of independence from Great Britain, let us not forget who we are, where we come from, and the legacy we will leave behind. The average person will influence 80,000 people in their lifetime. That influence starts first in your home with your family, then your community, place of worship, workplace and so on. As this country was started with a declaration, make a declaration today to be a positive influence for the world…starting first in your hearts and homes.
Aye!
