Crows Nest 7/2

8 pax came out to Crows Nest.  A disclaimer was made and we mosied up to the rock piles for COP.

COP

MNC x 25, Windmills x 12, HBW x 15, Merkins x 15, Peter Parker’s x 15

Everybody grabbed a rock and we made our way to the back of the school for the main event.  First we all did 10 pull ups OYO.

YHC had set up 10 stations and PAX paired up.  Every exercise was x 25 while Pax#2 did the second exercise and then both pax ran a lap… Except for the burpee stations, where both pax did 10 burpees with 2 laps. (Tri ext/6″ Squata/Al Gore, OHP/ MNC, diamond Merkins/plank, curls/curb hops, Merkins/plank, lunges/flutter, BOR/LBCs).

Had to finish up early and head back for COT with thr rocks.  Had some extra time so we made it through 40 jack webbs in 6 mins.

Announcements/Prayers for PAX job hunting and for Bob the Builder and his family.

Thanks Flux for the opportunity to lead.

Burpee Temple Of Doom

Preamble:  On a cool summer morning with a breeze coming off of Lake Wylie, 8 brave Pax rolled on in to the PoopDeck for my second ever Q.  After watching the new Paramount Network on my cable TV and seeing them replay all 4 Indiana Jones movies over and over again add-nauseam, I got the idea for a Temple of Doom style workout, but with cones shaped into a pyramid, not an actual temple.

Right off the bat I had the Pax do 5 burpees OYO.  After that I had the Pax mosey on over to the COP for a nice relaxing warmup.

Arm Circles-1 Burpee

10 Cherry Pickers-2 Burpees

10 Windmill-3 Burpees

10 SSH-4 Burpees

10 LSS-5 Burpees

10 Break Dance ‘mericans-6 Burpees

20 Dips-7 Burpees

10 Mountain Climbers-8 Burpees

10 Imperial Walkers-9 Burpees

10 3 count punches-10 Burpees

The Thang

I welcomed everyone to the Temple and told the Pax my reasons for the theme of the workout which I wrote about in my preamble above.  There were four tiers to the Temple with the first tier consisting of four cones with four different style of Burpee’s per cone.

1St Tier:

1st Cone: 5 Spider Burpees

2nd Cone: 5 Break Dance Burpees

3rd Cone: 5 Jack-Ass Burpees

4th Cone: 5 Plank Jack Burpees

We crab Walked to the second tier where more fun awaited us.

2nd Tier:

5th Cone: 10 Hand Release Burpees

6th Cone: 10 Punching Burpees

7th Cone: 10 Switch Burpees

We Bear Crawled to the third tier.

3rd Tier:

8th Cone: 15 SSH Burpees

9th Cone: 15 Mountain Climber Burpees

We partner carried to the pinnacle.

Pinnacle:

10th Cone: 25 Burpees

After surviving the Temple we mosey’d back to COT, where I realized we had 9 minutes left, time for an Ab-Lab!

Ab-Lab:

10 count American Hammer

15 count Freddie Mercury’s

20 count side planks

10 Big Boy Sit Ups

10 Box Cutters

Rip Cord to Boat

10 LBC’s

15 Dying Cock-a-roach’s

Observations:  I was so wiped I forgot to do the video name-o-Rama, I will get better and stronger!

Cancer and heart disease sucks, we are losing loved ones seemingly daily to these horrible diseases.

Prayers to those Pax looking for work.

Grateful to Peg for the opportunity to lead!

Gym Jones and a little DORA

It’s been a while since I’ve been back to my old stomping grounds at The Deep and thought this would be a great way to warm up for BEYOND coming on Monday. 9 PAX answered the call in The Gloom. Here’s what went down:

Quick Disclaimer and Mosey over to the parking lot in front of The Office (slight location adjustment was needed due some leftover splashed merlot).

A brief warm up followed.

THE THANG
A while back Facebook into me to Bobby Maximus and some of his Gym Jones challenges. It goes like this: Set a timer for one minute. Starting at one increase by one Burpee every minute until you can no longer complete the number of Burpees in that minute. This group pushed themselves to the limit and made it 15! For those who don’t want to do the math that’s 120 total Burpees

With all the PAX sucking wind we slowly moseyed over to the building and partnered up for a little DORA. With a partner complete 100 Dips, 200 Squats, and 300 double count Flutters while their partner ran to the parking island and back.

With the PAX sufficiently smoked, we moseyed back to COT.

MOLESKIN
F3 has impacted my life in more ways than I can count. I shared today that for most of my life due to various factors including being bullied, I have never had the confidence to look people in the eyes while speaking with them. I didn’t feel worthy. It felt intimidating. While I’ve held leadership positions, I’ve never known what it took to be a leader. F3 has given me the confidence to finally do that. The mental shift that happens when all of a sudden you lead and others follow is life changing. It’s downright empowering. These 45 minutes or hour leadership sessions have not only impacted my relationships, but my professional life as well.

There’s your preview for BEYOND. Check out the next BB for PART II.

Wild Thing Out.

Steal the flag, pop the balloon

It started with bacon.

Well, really it started with Cha Ching’s Q last week, where fifth grade games were the theme of the day. In planning the weinke for today, YHC decided to stick with this theme, and the first game to come to mind was “Steal the Bacon.” So, six PAX posted in the gloom of Crow’s Nest for YHC’s take on an old favorite (that apparently nobody has heard of).

Disclaimer was given, and off we went on a mosey to one of the side drop-off lots for a quick warmup including knees-to-chest, quad stretches, side shuffles, karaokes, and toy soldiers. We also did a handful of side-straddle hops, low slow squats, windmills, merkins, downward dogs, and a honeymooner (just one…though, just one honeymooner sounds like a bad honeymoon).

Mosey back around to the front for

THE THANG

Five pink balloons, each with a card with an exercise tucked inside, were taped to cones at one end of a 50-yard stretch of road. PAX were divided into two teams and given the basic rules.

  • Complete the buy-in exercise, then go to far cone and back according to prescribed movement
  • Depending on round, assigned team member of winning team would pop balloon to determine group exercise.
  • Losing team on a given round would do five burpees before all PAX complete group exercise.
  • Rinse and repeat for all five balloons.

To add to the fun, every PAX was given a strip of fabric (cut up tee shirt) to serve as a flag/tail tucked into the back of his waistband. In addition to everything else, PAX were to protect their flag. If they lose it to another PAX, they were to immediately complete five burpees. They would then re-insert the flag and continue on. There was no limit to the number of times a PAX could lose his flag.

Round 1:

50 merkins, followed by a run down and back. First PAX back popped the balloon. Card exercise: 100 plank jacks.

Round 2:

40 monkey humpers followed by sneak gorilla down and back. Second PAX back popped the balloon. Card exercise: 30 breakdancer merkins.

Round 3:

30 CDD followed by bear crawl down and back. Third PAX (protect the six!) popped the balloon. Card exercise: 50 30 leg-cross squat turns. These apparently take some coordination. Who knew?

Round 4:

40 crab cakes followed by crab walk down and back. Third PAX back popped the balloon. We ended up popping both remaining balloons and choosing 50 hillbilly squat walkers as the final exercise (as opposed to 50 donkey kicks).

The flag football approach added a fun dynamic to the workout, leading to a killer workout that engaged the brain as well. The final round took a long time, as strategy played heavily into the completion of the crab walks. This actually turned out a lot better than anticipated. Look forward to bringing this one back around again.

Announcements:

  • PAINtheon on Wednesday
  • Hog and Coyote on Saturday
  • Sweati in July

Prayers and Praises

  • QBert and family back to the beach after the workout
  • Cha Ching and family and life with new baby

It was a hike to get to the AO, but man it was fun. Grateful for the chance to lead.

A Primal Beatdown

On a warm sticky morning at the Crow’s Nest 7 Pax rolled into the parking lot while I was preparing for my first ever Q and I was pumped!  After about 10 weeks of following all the great Q’s of my past workout’s I was eager to prove my mettle and present a challenging workout with a theme of how animals move in nature.

Warmup

I had an instant COP to warm up the morning stiffness

20 SSH

10 Cherry Pickers

Arm Circles

10 LSS

Then I had the Pax do an Indian Run to the main event area with the rear Pax doing 1 Burpee to continue the warming up period.

The Thang

I pulled out a deck of playing cards for the beatdown

Spades were Bear Crawls

Clubs were Crab Walks

Hearts were Donkey Kicks

Diamonds were Pull Ups (Monkey)

Jokers were 14 Grasshopper ‘Mericans

Rep ranges were 2-14 depending on the card with BC’s and CW’s  going a certain distance corresponding to the card.  Thanks to Flux for the helpful modification on the BC’s and CW’s.

During the beatdown I pulled out 2 scripture readings, the first being on how our bodies’ are our temple’s to SkyQ from 1 Corinthians and with the word of the month being Accountability I knew a great passage from Ezekiel on being watchers on the wall.

After getting through most of the deck we moseyed back right on time for COT.

Thoughts and prayers for this country on yet another school shooting.

Russian Roulette

To start:

Simple stretching while I explained the idea of what I call Russian Roulette.  During the workout, rock songs from a 90s and 00s playlist were blasted on shuffle.  One song on the playlist would function as a punishment song and, if played, the entire group would have a punishment to complete during the length of the song.  Naturally, that song was by Nickelback because they might be the worst band of all time (as if having to listen to Nickelback wasn’t bad enough, the group would have something terrible to do during that time as well).

The Thang:

PAX split into pairs to work through 6 different stations of various exercises.  Each set of exercises were completed twice before moving on to another station.  Each station were as followed:

  1. 2x40lb Sandbag Farmers Carry, Medicine Ball Balance Merkin, LBC’s w/ 10lb weight
  2. Agility Ladder SSH’s, Dumbbell Tricep Extensions, Flutter Kicks
  3. Burpee Medicine Ball Slam, 40lb Sandbag Bicep Curl, Big Boy Situp w/ 10lb weight
  4. Jump Rope, 40lb Sandbag Squat w/ Overhead Press at the top, and Freddie Mercury’s
  5. Ski Jump Over Jump Rope, Carolina Dry Docks, Medicine Ball American Hammers
  6. Plyo Box Jumps or Step Ups, Band Chest Press, Dying Cockroach

Based on my observation, most PAX completed one full round plus a few extra stations in the time that we had.  Luckily for us, Nickelback never played.  Next time, when I shorten the playlist, we may not be so lucky.

P.S. – Just in case you weren’t aware… Nickelback sucks.

Cinder Block Surprise at Crow’s Nest

A beautiful morning for my first Q at the new Crow’s Nest deep in Lake Wylie.  It’s also the closest AO to my house so I was able to set up the night before.  I warned the attending PAX to bring gloves, but my P200 brother Peg still couldn’t find his…lucky for his white collar hands (like mine) I brought several extra pairs.

We had six men ready to roll at 5:15am, gave the disclaimer (including a modify if it’s too dangerous for you) and we started out.

Light jog to the north parking lot with a dynamic warmup including,

High Knees – Butt Kickers – side shuffles – toy soldiers

COP

20 SSHs – 20 MNCs – 15 IWs – 8 Abe Vagota  Windmills – 10 Merkins – 20 Mountain Climbers – 15 Plank Jacks

Small mosey to the hidden big old white board with some cider block coupons.

Partner Up

1 PAX will use the cider block for an exercise while the other partner does exercise #2, then rotate

Exercises were:

20 Curls –> Flutters

20 Overhead Presses –> Calf Raises

30 Bent Rows –> Squats

30 Durkins –> LBCs

10 Man Makers –> American Hammers

20 Tricep Ext –> Lunges

30 Irkins –> Rosalitas

30 Squats –> Imperial Walkers

The men did such a good job we got to do the whole rotation twice. Lots of good mumble chatter and sharing from Peg about Childrens Attention Home, YHC about G-Fit and Flux about the BrewRuck 002 from this weekend.

We moved over to the wall of the school to do:

Wall sits while each PAX did 5 Merkins

BTTW 30 count

Wall sits while each PAX did 2 burpees

We went back to the cinder blocks, grabbed one for the walk back to COT and the PAX changed holding positions when I called for a switch.

Back to COT for Announcements

Read your newsletter, Word of the month is Worthy

Spring is here, start EHing the guys back out!

Happy to start my day the right way,  and a big shout out to Flux for leading this new AO in Lake Wylie!

An Honor to Lead…

Never Board at the Abyss

Great morning!! Or was it? As I was setting up the BoP out back, I saw a couple of cars parked. Lights off, side by side. I was wondering if I was about to become a crime statistic. Then as I drove back towards the front of the school, I noticed an unusually large number of cars rolling in. Someone more self-effacing might have thought it was for them. I was hopeful. Turns out there was a school field trip gathering. Oh well.

Disclaimer was disclaimed. Moseyed around to the side of the school for the COP:

  • SSH x 15
  • WM x 15
  • IW x 15
  • MNC x 20

Didn’t want to take too much time away from the main event. No talking (believe it). Due to the full lot out back, moved the BoP to the front of the school for the main event .

The MINI Board Of Pain

The real Board of Pain has become somewhat of a legend in The Fort region. I figured we need to keep our eye on the prize and came up with the mini version to break out every now and then to keep us prepared for the real deal. Three groups of 5 exercises, 25 reps each OYO (unless otherwise noted), nonstop, with runs after every 5th exercise:

  1. Burpees
  2. Calf raises (50)
  3. Ski Abs
  4. Merkins
  5. Long, slow squats >>> Run a lap
  6. LBCs (50)
  7. CDDs
  8. American hammers
  9. Mac Tar Jai
  10. Jump squats >>> RUN FORREST, RUN!!
  11. Mountain climbers
  12. Shoulder raises (50)
  13. Mary Catherines
  14. Hello Dolly!
  15. Wide arm merkins >>> Run like the wind(ed)…
    >>> RINSE AND REPEAT
(missing from the original BoP were squat jacks, nipplers – whatever the hell those are, and burpees)

Again, NO talking from the Q. I did provide some Pandora streaming music, and it was noted that my playlist stunk. Playlist? I don’t have time for that. That’s why I use Pandora. The PAX really got after it! Alot of great support and mumblechatter. Everyone completed 2 full circuits, a few started on their third. GREAT JOB BY ALL!!

We took it right up to ~ 5:57. Enough time for a slow Indian run back to the COT.

COT:
* Read your newsletter. Get out there, get involved, make a positive impact somehow. Get better every day.
* Brewruck 002 Sat 3/31
* CAH Guidance 3/31
* Whetstone is starting back up. Get better!
* Prayers for families, children, parents, and health
* Prayers for MOAB’s Dad who recently survived a heart attack, and that he is given the strength, discipline, and courage to follow through with the changes needed in his life to get better.
* Prayers for Zoe Deen, the man who hit her on Tuesday AM, and their respective families/loved ones.
* Many more said – sorry I cannot remember them all

NMM:
I kept quiet today at this workout. Did not say much at all. No moleskin, deep thoughts, or talking about the word of the month. I kept thinking about what happened on Tuesday morning, around 6am. Right about the time many of us were in COT. It’s regarding the Olympic high school girl Zoe Deen who was killed on Tuesday AM as she was crossing Youngblood Rd not too far from the location of The Abyss……as those who posted that morning were in prayers and praising, she left this earth.

Life is very precious, and can be very fleeting. You never know when your time will come. I’m sure this young woman and her family thought that day would be like any other. Going about their normal morning routines. Setting off to begin another day. I’m sure the driver of the SUV thought the same thing…..just like any another day. They never suspected that morning their worlds would change forever. In an instant she was gone. In an instant his life was forever scarred. In an instant those kids who saw it happen were forever changed. In an instant the lives of the families all those involved were forever changed as well. That’s all it takes. An instant. And it’s not just one life affected……the wave of change spreads outward and touches many others. We are blessed with this precious thing we call life. What you do with it is up to you, but if you leave doubts in anyone’s minds – yours or others – about how precious it can be, then you failed regardless of how much else you may achieve, gain, or accomplish. Take nothing for granted. Value every moment. Leave no doubts in anyone’s minds about love and life.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead,

It was getting a little windy (super windy) so we quickly started moving. As a special treatment for the 2 P200 runners showing up so soon after the big day, they got to control our 10 counts and replace any exercise set with 5 burpees (we had no 10 counts and I don’t think anything was replaced with Burpees)

Mosey around the bus lane? for some warmups
SSH IC x20
Calf Raises IC x10
MoroccanNC IC x20
Cotton Pickers IC x10

I kept the warmups relatively easy and repetitive to encourage mumblechatter and get some storeis out of our P200 PAX. I was glad we had a crew who was able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Partner’d up and went down to the bottom of the smaller hill (Not the Green Giant unfortunately)
One partern ran up the hill and back while the other partner did an exercise then switch
I picked some spelling partner routines from the Exicon

B.O.P.O
Burpees
One-Leg Burpee
Plank Jack
Other-Leg Burpee

B.O.M.B.S.
Burpees
Overhead Claps
Merkins
Big Boys
Squats

Everyone handled this really well so we ran back up the hill and continued to mosey around the backside of the school. I tried the single file run again (I think Indian run is the wrong name, is it Spartan Run?) Front PAX drops for 5 merkins, catches up to the line and yells DROP. We went through the full rotation twice, everyone took it upon themself to run in any random direction or shape when they were the lead which kept it interesting.

We lined up next to the loading dock and looked maybe 20-25 yards away to the curb and grass and I prepped everyone for some sprints immediately followed by 10 merkins. We did this 5 times and I took the time on the walk back to unload some form of wisdom

The English word abide means to follow instructions, be obedient, endure and follow through on a task. Jesus entered this world to expand our definitions of very basic words. He took everything in the Law and added a layer of humility and selflessness. Inspired us to look inward and realize our depravity instead of focusing on whatever we could do outwardly. How does this apply to abiding? These questions lay in front of us: How are we abiding? Who are we abiding in? Why are we abiding? It should be our goal to walk with Jesus, to do as he did, read his Word and live life in a manner as similar as possible to the way Jesus lived and taught. I mentioned the the apostle John really likes our current word of the month but more on that later.

It was super fun to talk for about 30 seconds then just yell SPRINT and watch them scramble before getting back to my word of the month chat. Again we did this 5 times with 10 merkins each time.

Mosey all the way back near CoT and found some good low brick wall around the playground for step ups. I led a modified W.A.S.H. I’ll call the ‘Partner WASHing machine’
While one partner was doing step ups (left leg first) the other partner would do 10 reps of an exercise then switch. Both PAX did left legs, then right leg, which meant everyone did 20 of each of these—-

Merkins
American Hammers
Hillbilly Walkers
hand-release Werkins

We then found a nice patch of grass for some 1:4 ratio Jack Webb (plank jacks, not merkins) incrementing all the way to 10 plank jacks, 40 overhead claps

This was a super great push for all PAX as we made sure no one dropped arms during the last 40 and finished all together

I am starting a thing where I end all workouts with 5 burpees so watch out!

Deck of Death – Uno at PoopDeck

A cold chilly wind was blowing over the marina this morning as 6 HIMs joined the Poopdeck to take a little break and play some cards since all the P200 runners are resting in preparation for the big day.

After a regular dislaimer – adding that we would be staying close to CoT so phones did not need to be brought along in case of emergency – did a mosey around the lot with high knees, toy soldier, toe walk and heel walk.

Circle of Pain

Abide!
Men, abiding as defined by Webster is to act in accordance with a rule, decision or recommendation, but Jesus came to this world to heighten and deepen our understanding of what is right and to bring matters into the heart as inward thoughts and feelings and not just outward actions. Abiding in Jesus is obeying and acting in accordance with others rules, decisions and recommendations and adding on a layer of selflessness, respect, and humility. If asked to go one mile, go two. If asked for your shirt, give your coat also. This was the word left with the PAX this morning

Indian Run around the parking lot, front PAX drops for 5 merkins then catches up to the line to yell DROP to the new line leader, everyone dropped twice

Lunge walk ALL THE WAY from the little restaurant back to CoT, you LKW PAX must be hurting just reading that now.

2 minutes of flutter, hello dolly and protractor to call it a day

CoT
Count-a-rama
Name-a-rama
Wild Thing’s kid – prayers that the attitude is a passing moment and not a prolonged phase of life
Homebrew’s M – new baby, less sleep, we all understand and are supporting you
IcedT’s son – is moving to a nval base in FL to be closer to his son’s wife
Respectable Olaf’s family – they just moved here a few weeks ago and are going through those normal struggles
