Webs at Bermuda Triangle for anniversary celebrations

First time out at the Bermuda Triangle, longer drive than usual but it was totally worth it, good to see new faces out in the gloom.

Today marks my 2nd anniversary with F3 Nation and it’s also the first anniversary of the Bermuda Triangle AO, TCLAPS to Homebrew for leading this AO during this year so what better way but to combine the celebrations; 15 PAX decided to get better and were ready to start the party at 0500, some where disappointed to know that no utensils were in the menu but later found out that it was better that I left the utensils out.

After a short disclaimer, we moseyed to the front of the school for the warm up in cadence:

Windmills

Moroccan Night Clubs

Low slow squats

Low slow merkins

I’ve been nursing a pulled hamstring all week so I decided to keep the running part to a minimum; I had 4 cards in my pocket with predetermined webs, we circled up on a “grassy” area, even though most of it was dirt with patches of grass, time to start our webs series, first web LEGS:

1 Knee Tar Jie – 4 squats, progressive to 10 KTJ and 40 squats (55 KTJ and 220 squats total)

Some questions arose when the second card was pulled out of my pocket but you don’t get up at 4 am to to the easy thing, second web CHEST/SHOULDERS:

1 Worst Merkin Ever (wide, regular, diamond) – 4 Carolina Dry Docks, progressive to 10 WME – 40 CDD, after the 8th WME I decided to switch the 9th and 10th round to regular merkins only and the CDD stayed the same. Flux was a champ and decided to do WME on the 9th and 10th as well so some of us joined him in the action. (+-150 merkins and 220 CDD)

we moseyed back to the soccer field for a softer grassy area and on the way there the site Q asked me about the legendary Captain Thor web, well, that was our third web ABS:

Captain Thor
1 Big Boy Sit Up – 4 American Hammersogressive to 10 BBSU and 40 AH (55 BBSU and 220 AH total)

With about 7 minutes left in the clock, I pulled my last card for the fourth web series CARDIO:

1 burpee – 4 goof balls, progressive to 10 burpees – 40 GB (most of us finished the 8th round for 36 burpees and 144 GB) I learned about goof balls last weekend at Hog and Coyote and this exercise really gets your heart pumping,  yes you guessed, you look like a goof ball!!

My plan was to include all groups of muscles into one workout and we did it, great job pushing yourselves out of the comfort zone gentlemen!!

We finished with announcements about Q School at Bermuda Triangle, we included our injured AX, families and kids on our prayers.

Thank you Homebrew for the opportunity to lead!!

Tinsel out…

Nothing but Poopdeck

I have been skipping Thursday’s of late because I almost always work from home that day and have been choosing to sleep in a bit and go for a run as a change of pace so it was nice to come back here.  I believe the Poopdeck was the 2nd “Lake Wylie” AO I ever posted.

It was chilly this morning and felt even colder because of the recent warm weather we’ve been enjoying, but that didn’t stop the other 8 PAX who joined YHC for some fun at the Poopdeck.

I gave a better-than-usual disclaimer since we welcomed back kotter Twitch and we did and Indian Run/5 merkin mosey to the upper parking lot.

CoP

  • Windmills (Abe Vigoda) x8
  • SSH x25
  • Low-Slow-Squat x12
  • Plank (1-2-3 count to x12)
  • Into 6″ Plank (1-2-3 count to x12)
  • Crab Cakes x10
  • Diamond Merkins x5
  • LBC x15

I chose a distance of about 50 yards (between 2 light posts) for the remaining routines.

Partner up, the 1st routine consisted of crawling under and jumping over.  1 PAX would be in plank position while his partner crawls under him, then he drops to 6″ hold while his partner jumps over.   Back to plank and you get the idea. Repeat x10 and then both he and his partner would Bear Crawl to the other light posts and the other PAX would perform the exercise before Bear Crawling back to the 1st light post again.

Then I told all the PAX to do 10 Burpees “OYO” and run “AYG” to the 2nd light post.  Mosey back (this was the break).  Repeat.

Next up, I had one PAX plank again while the 2nd PAX did 10 incline merkins with his hands on his partners back while he holds plank.  Once finished, crab walk to the light post, swap, repeat, and crab walk back.

Then I told all the PAX to do 10 Burpees “OYO” and run “AYG” to the 2nd light post.  Instead of the Mosey back I just had them repeat the 10 Burpees and sprint back “AYG” to the 1st light post again.

The last set consisted of decline merkins x10.  1 PAX would hold the legs of his partner while he did merkins (wheelbarrow merkins) and the PAX holding the legs would do x10 Squats.  Once complete, wheelbarrow to the lightpost, swap, repeat, and wheelbarrow back.

Then I told all the PAX to do 10 Burpees “OYO” and run “AYG” to the 2nd light post.  Repeat.

I then told half the PAX to hold Al Gore while the other half did 30 squats and then vice versa.  We then did a lunge walk about 100 yards or more before the mosey back to CoT.

We had 2 minutes to spare so I called on Ice-T for some ab work and we did 10 Big Boy sit-ups OYO, I called out x10 Hello Dolly’s IC and Twich finished us off with 10 American Hammers.

Well done everyone.

CoT

Ice breaker this weekend, Pre-Blast for the Yeti is out, Qsource on Wednesday and Saturdays.  Prayers for Iced-T’s grandmother and health for all those that are sick and still getting back in the groove after the holidays.

Thanks for getting me back out to the Poopdeck Peg!  Hopefully you can make it next time!

Starfish at Poopdeck

This morning was a particularly important one for me to post at, but we will get to that in a few minutes.

Peg had “planned” on having a community Q this morning so after … wait who did the disclaimer? ooops

Flux took us around for a long mosey with shuffles and Toy soldiers and then some warmup
Windmill
Low Slow Squat
Merkins
Mountain Climbers
Moroccan Night Club

Peg took over for BLIMPS, we laid out a path and the mode of transportation was Lunge
5 Burpees
10 Lunge each leg
15 Imperial Walkers each side
20 Merkins
25 Plank Jacks
30 squats

Two Ferns was up to bat and we started at Sherwin Williams for a 10-20-30 with a full parking lot lap between each exercise
10 Burpees
20 Merkins
30 Squats

Cornerstone’s turn and we went a found some wall. First was 30 count balls to the wall then 10 merkins
70 count peoples chair (10 per pax) with some minor crop dusting by DaVinci, luckily I was on the other side
20 more counts of balls to the wall

DaVinci must have liked Two Fern’s idea so much that he also gave us a 10-20-30
Im not confident I have this one right but I think it was 10 LBCs, 20 merkins, 30 squats

Twitch ran us back to the parking spaces for bear crawl 5 spaces, 30 LBCs, lunge 5 more, 10 merkins.
We did this twice

Flutters to finish out the last :45 seconds

Prayer Requests
Honestly I can’t remember them, please post and keep in touch with the PAX to find out what’s going on in their lives! Reach out, make someone know they matter

Well here goes……
Last night and most of yesterday I finally admitted that I have been wrestling against God and not letting go of a specific thing in my life. Ive been very open and clear that F3 has led me down a path of discipline that has overflowed into my life as a father, husband, employee and even church member. This new church has put a family in my family’s life who has literally be the best relationships we have ever had. It is clear that the relationship with these family friends are a benefit to both families and those around us, we have been growing in Christ together and I recently had a discussion with Picasso, the dad of this family, and some of the – not necessarily depressions, but certainly just bleh moments going on in my life lately and he wondered if God is stripping away the identity I thought made me who I was so that He could fill me up with Jesus instead. That has been in my head all summer and I have just refused to give up video games and the like; knowing EVERYTHING about comics, tv, movies, and games was EVERYTHING I was about in middle school through college. So the last time I fought God this hard was October 2008, when I finally gave up and begged God to change my life and put Jesus as MY King. So because of this feeling, I am really not wanting something big right now. Things are smooth, I am only 26 and have been married 7 years, out of college for almost 8, a father for close to 6 and a homeowner my entire adult life, I’ve even been unemployed in the past for months during all this and moved 3 times so I have had enough big things. So I remember some of my favorite, the most theologically charged, the most emotional and the most life changing words in the Bible – “But God” and I am done, I give it up. Ocotber 31, 2008 I gave my life to God for eternity following Jesus’ example and woke up November 1 to a new life and October 31, 2018 I decided to take a new step to lead a life different than before and today woke up and posted to F3 to confirm it and let those important to me know. I life of engaging with Him ceaselessly. I won’t just be a good moral father, husband, person anymore. I won’t just know God, I will enjoy Him and thrive in Him and abide in Him. Please push me in this. God, MY Father, I give my sin to you please take that last piece I was holding on to away from me. This will be a continual process. More to come.

Cone Relay and The Cooper

I don’t know what the temperature was this morning, but it was nice. Somewhere in the low 60s if I had to guess – perfect for getting a good running based workout in. 9 PAX for the boot camp, and 1 Tater went for a run.

Disclaimer disclaimed. Then we moseyed across the street to the elementary school.

COP

SSH, Windmills, low slow squat, weed pickers, 5 worst merkins ever OYO, superman

The Thang

Cone Relays

We went down to the football field where YHC had set up the first event for the day. PAX formed 2 teams and were told they would be competing against each other, with the losing team getting a penalty exercise. 17 cones had been setup at the goal line on the far end of the field. On each team 1 PAX would sprint to retrieve a cone and bring it back (200 yard round trip). While P1 was running, the others on the team did an exercise which was determined by the previous cone (we started with SSH for the first round). On the bottom of the cone (so you don’t know what you are choosing) was an exercise and rep count which had to be completed by the entire team before the next PAX could run for the next cone. The “waiting” exercise was written on the top of each cone (clearly visible when the cone was selected) that the non-runners had to do. For example, P1 brings back a cone and everyone on the team does 30 merkins. Then, while P2 is running, P1, P3, and P4 do high knees in place until P2 returns. Repeat until there are no more cones. The team with the most cones at the end wins. Here were the cone pairings:

PAX seemed to enjoy this one and there was some good competition. The final score was  a close 9 to 8, with the losing team having selected both the burpee cone, and the lap cone. The winners (YHC, Twitch, Nemo, Royale, and Blocks) had the option of giving 10 burpees to the losers (Wolverine, Lorax, Two Ferns, and Shakespeare) or taking 5 burpees for everyone. We magnanimously chose the 5 burpees for all.

The Cooper

The Deep has a great full-sized track, which I was eager to include in my Q. As a track routine, the Cooper is as simple as it is exhausting: PAX do 10 burpees, 10 squats, 10 merkins, and 10 big boy sit-ups then run a lap on the track. Then they do 9 burpees, 9 squats, 9 merkins, and 9 big boy sit-ups and run a lap on the track. Rinse and repeat until you get to 0 reps. When done to completion the Cooper affords 2.5 miles of running and 55 reps of each exercise… unless you are Nemo and accidently do 10 reps for every round. Technically this was a Sheldon Cooper, but whatever. It was good to see the PAX pushing each other through the running – you definitely run faster when you think you have someone trying to pass you. Most PAX made it into round 3 or 4 before we had to start the mosey back to COT.

COT then coffeeteria at DD.

It was lots of fun to plan this Q. Thank you Shakespeare for the opportunity to lead.

Stay Classy,

Homebrew

Pain Stations and Partner Beatdown on tap at Bermuda Triangle

YHC is a big fan of getting up at 4:20 for the Q at the 5:00AM launch of Bermuda Triangle.  Fresh off 3 miles of Suicides courtesy of Which Hunt at Poopdeck, I was excited to get after it, hoping for a strong turnout.  Disclaimer was delivered and the we got to business.  Here is how it went down:

Warm-o-rama:

Started with a 400 meter (more or less) modified indian run where the lead runner passes back overhead a 10lb medicine ball.  Last man sprints to the front of the line and so on until we arrived back near the flag:

  • 20 SSH IC
  • 15 Imperial Walkers IC
  • 15 Weed pullers IC
  • 10 Merkins IC
  • 15 Mountain Climbers IC

Next on to Part 1 of the workout: a 3 station beat down with pain stations spread around the 400 meter track.

Station 1:

  • 10 Jump squats
  • 10 single count curls/arm (25lb dumbells)
  • 20 Nolan Ryan’s (10/side)
  • 25 LBCs (single count) => run to station 2

Station 2:

  • 10 Lunges per leg
  • 10 WWII Sit ups
  • 10 Tricep hammers/ arm (20lb dumbells)
  • 10 Diamond merkins => run to station 3

Station 3:

  • 25 SSH
  • 20 Flutters (per leg)
  • 15 Derkins
  • 15 CDDs

Rinse and repeat once

Unfortunately for the Pax, we still had 15 minutes left, so on the Part 2:

Partners would split reps, with one running about 100 yards while the other got cracking:

  • 100 Lunges
  • 75 Ranger Merkins
  • 75 Bobby Hurley Squats
  • 75 Carolina Dry docks
  • 75 Crab Cakes
  • 75 Werkins
  • 75 Monkey Humpers
  • 100 LBCs
  • 40 Flying Squirrels

The leaders only got as far as the Monkey humpers.  Pax were told completion at home was optional.

In Closing

We circled up to name 31 year old FNG Matt Hickey , now forever to be known as “Love Bite”.  Praises and prayers for health and healing, comfort and celebration were brought forth.  YHC closed the COT with prayer.

As always, I’m grateful to be a part of F3 Nation and fort the opportunity to Q.

The Modified Murph

Michael Murphy was a Navy Seal from my neck of the woods on Long Island, New York who died in service to this great nation.  The Murph challenge has been gaining steam for the last couple of years as many people have taken to the challenge of doing a 1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 pushups, 300 squats and then running another mile with a 20-30 lb ruck sack on.  I did my first modified Murph this past memorial day(no ruck sack) and could not wait to do another, so I figured I would do a modified one and torture my F3 buddies along the way.

We did a quick mosey on over the back basketball courts with side shuffle’s and toy soldiers worked in.

COP

10-SSH w/2 Donkey Kicks

10-Sungods fwd and reverse w/4 DK’s

10-Windmills w/6 DK’s

10-Cherry Pickers w/8 DK’s

10-Down Dog into Thigh Masters each leg w/10DK’s

The Thang

Since I figured everyone can run forward, I decided on having everyone nur for 2 laps around the track that surrounds the basketball courts then do 100 pull-ups, 200 archer ‘mericans and 300 one legged squats then nur for another 2 laps.  I instructed the Pax to do the modified Murph in 10 sets of 10 pull-ups, 20 archer ‘mericans and 30 one legged squats.  There wasn’t much mumble chatter for this workout and Austin Powers even threatened to get even with me the next time he was on Q.  Little does the late showing Mr. Powers understand, I enjoy a good challenge, the harder the better.  Dr. Evil is in the house!

Around set 6 I figured in the interest of time that we do regular push ups and squats to finish the Murph.  Unfortunately, there is no modification for pull ups.  My timer rang at 5:55 and everyone was in the middle nuring the last 2 laps so I had us mosey back to COT where we finished up the workout with 4 minutes of Mary.

Big Boy Sit Up’s until a runner ran to the far island and back.

Freddie Mercury’s until a runner ran to the far island and back.

Hello Dollie’s until a runner ran to the far island and back.

LBC’s until a runner ran to the far island and back.

Observations:  Better late than never AP.  Respectable Olaf and Haushka ran during the boot camp and were not part of the name-o-rama but respect to them for coming out in the gloom and training.

Prayers to the family of String Bean(Will Frederick) from the York Pax who has gone to be with Sky Q.  A tough loss at only 23.  Prayers for Stang’s mother in law who is having bypass surgery today.  Prayers always for Pax looking for work or dealing with the loss of a loved one.

Peace brothers.

Dice Dice Baby

After being on IR for a month, YHC was finally back in the game and got to (at last) Q at Bermuda Triangle. We had a couple of late comers, but the final count was 7 PAX.

Disclaimer made.

Jog around the track to the basketball court then circle up for COP.

SSH, MNC, Merkins, Windmills, Crab Cakes… probably forgetting some other stuff.

The Thang

Moseyed to the large traffic circle where PAX

·         Bear crawled around circle, then 7 worst-merkins-ever

·         Crab walked around the circle, then 20 crab cakes

·         Bear crawled around circle, then 7 worst-merkins-ever

Easy to write, hard to do. This traffic circle is no joke.

Die of Doom

I really need a better name for this one. But the night before the Q, Die of Doom was all I could come up with. PAX moseyed to the far side of the school where a whiteboard and novelty foam die had been set up. Reps for each of the 12 rounds were predetermined: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 then 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10. The die roll determined the exercise. Each round a PAX would roll the die for the group (resulting in cheers or groans), everyone would do the corresponding exercise for the assigned reps OYO, then run to the end of the parking lot and back. Rinse and repeat until all 12 rounds are complete.

Die values:

1 = LBCs

2 = SSH

3 = Dips

4 = Merkins

5 = Monkey Humpers

6 = Burpees

Lady Luck was definitely in a burpee mood that Friday as we rolled burpees on the ascending 50… then rolled burpees on the descending 50 again. At least she stayed away from burpees on the 60 rep rounds. The distribution of the exercises was surprisingly even – not the reps, but the variety in rolled numbers. We ended up having to cut things short in the 8th round as we were quickly approaching 5:45. YHC will have to budget more time for this in the future. Mosey back to COT.

Great to be back in the gloom getting sharpened by you men. Being on IR sucks, so don’t forget to reach out to PAX who are injured. The 2nd and 3rd F stuff shouldn’t stop just because you can’t post to a workout.

Stay classy,

Homebrew

2 Year Anniversary of The Abyss

Today we celebrated 2 years of the Abyss.  When the shovel flag was planted 6/29/20016 by Dark Helmet the Abyss was merely an idea that “if we build it….they will post.”  And post the PAX did!  Over the past year and half it has been an honor to be the Site Q of this versatile AO and I appreciate all the PAX who have come out and led a workout.

Q got to the AO with seconds to spare due to an emergency bathroom visit at a 24 hr Harris Teeter in route.

Once disclaimers were given and the 5 F3 Principles given (due to FNG) we were off.

Quick mosey around the front half of the AO to allow all stragallers to exit their vehichles (ehem…Wildthing) and then to a warm-up circle.

Warm-up

  • Windmill
  • Weed Pickers
  • Moroccan Night Club
  • Slow Low Squat
  • Plank (a few Broga moves)
  • Merkins
  • Stretch with knees to chest

The Thang

I told the PAX that I wanted to highlight a few of the “features” of the AO during the workout so we started with the Flag pole.

  • Bear Crawl around circle in front of school

Mosey to very back hill of the AO for a series of hill exercises

  • Lunge walk–Sprint to top
  • Broad Jump–Sprint to top
  • Basketball shuffle Flip half way

Mosey to the Basketball court for some Suicides

First Suicide–

all four goals and back

Second–

  • Start with 10 Squats
  • 2nd Goal–10 Merkins
  • 4th Goal–5 Burpees

Mosey into “wet and muddy” field

  • Elbow Plank position with Peter Parker’s
  • Jack Webs (everyone’s favorites)

Mosey to “the hill”

  • Finished strong with 5 sprints up the hill

Mosey to COT.

Everyone pushed themselves and got better for it…includding FNG who was off to the side threatening to Merlot.

Once Namorama was finished we welcomed FNG Oompa Loompa!

Announcements and Prayers

Thanks again for all the PAX who came out today to celebrate this AO.  We had 24 there and we have set the goal for 30 next year!

BEYOND – CONFIDENCE & SELF-WORTH

Being the BEYOND Q has been something that I’ve found to be quite intimidating after the first few that I attended. I’ll admit, I’m not the most experienced in the 3rd F. How will I find a message that will resonate with the PAX? Will it impact them? Will it move them? These are all of the questions that have been on my mind since getting on Q schedule for BEYOND.

5 brave PAX split from the group and went off into The Gloom with YHC.

Pre-Amble:
Throughout the majority of my life I’ve had the luxury of being able to take the easy way out when things got tough. High School Sports Injury? Rehab is too hard I’ll just find something else. Finding out the career you want involves hard classes and real work? Find something easier that takes less effort. Tough time finding a job? Take the first and easiest option instead of facing rejection. I can’t even count the number of goals I’ve set for myself and just sat back watched as goal date just floated on passed.

What do all of these easy way out decisions lead to? Regret. They lead to happy hours and late night talks about how I could’ve done X, but (insert lame excuse here). They lead to late nights saying I should’ve been Y, but (insert lame excuse here).

Where does all of that come from? What makes it so easy to compromise? I think it comes from not knowing who you are as a man, or what is important to you. I’ve spent most of my life trying to assimilate into whatever peer group would have me. Tupac summed up my teen years the best, “I hung around with thugs and even though they sold drugs, they showed a young brother love”. The quickest way to make friends in college? Find the party or hang out in front of dorms and meet the smokers. So far, probably not the most High Impact Men to surround myself with.

Enter F3 about 2.5 years ago. This group of men has given me confidence. It has built enough self-worth in me that I can now look people in the eyes when I talk to them. It has given me the desire to want to finish what I’ve started, to complete the task, to not accept not meeting the standard. The saying we’ve adopted is “Do the Harder Thing”. That is how I want to live my life.

Today the feeling of regret stops. Today we come back to one task, one goal that has eaten away at me slowly for 18 mos…

THE THANG
About halfway through our F3 Custom GoRuck Challenge, after carrying heavy logs and each other, Cadre Danny and Cadre Flash challenged us to a PT Test.

100 Burpees
Run 1.1 Mi
50 Burpees
Run 1.1 Mi
Time: 32 minutes (for the vent they added an extra few minutes)

My time the first time was over 40 minutes.

All participants finished in 31 minutes or less!

Thank you Maximus for the opportunity to lead.

Until next time in the gloom,

Wild Thing out!
