Sink roulette deck of cards

17 eager and excited pax showed up. Some brought sand bags, some brought just their willing attitude which was quickly put on point upon the pile of sandbags awaiting them.

After a quick run around the parking lot, a few in cadence SSH, followed by burpees, and that repeated a few times, it was time for business.

Deck of cards was the game. Rules were simple. Follow the count on the card and suit to the key on the paper.

Here’s the extra kitchen sink rule: for the 4 cards laid out, 1 card was chosen by a pax to either pick red or black. If correct, follow the card suit/count. If incorrect, penalty was double the count.

All exercises were done with your sandbag.

– 2-7 diamonds manmaker
– 8-Ace diamonds squats
– 2-7 spades lunge
– 8-Ace spades merkins (just do regular merkins
– 2-7 clubs clean and press
– 8-Ace clubs flutter w/ a press
– 2-7 hearts chest press
– 8-Ace hearts curls
– Joker gear carry shuffle 100 yards and then 1 min sandbag toss over shoulder, 100 yard shuffle
– A few “breaks” were added which included some slick run cool downs and a few gear shuffles with no bag toss

For the record, there were some incorrect cards chosen which were a crowd favorite as you’d expect.

The Darkest of ALLL Convergences

80ish of the Fort’s, Lake Wylie’s, and Rock Hill’s finest converged this fine Monday to celebrate and show our support for the Darkest of All Helmet’s becoming the new Nantan of F3 Nation.

After my usual disclaimer and a giving of thanks for those who all showed , Dark Helmet led the warmup. As any true leader would do he quickly refreshed (and reinforced via burpees) the core mission of F3 and our core principles. After a rough start we did eventually nail it. After some side straddle hops and merkins the Pax were released into their own unique workout groups.

HERO WOD(Honey Badger)

This was my Q and I’m always humbled to lead Hero style workouts. They should be hard but also purposeful. For me I have created two unique workouts to honor different men of my family who have served. They would be the last people to ever consider themselves heroes. But that’s why I honor them. They sacrificed more than I ever could and I will always be inspired by them. I hope that in this very simple way their stories help inspire others.

For the purpose of today’s workout I truncated both them in the interest of time.

The “Uncle Paul”

I encourage anyone to Google the USS Pueblo Incident to get the full details but the long and short of it is that my wife’s Uncle Paul was a member of the USS Pueblo crew when it was captured by North Korea in 1968. For 11 months he was help captive as POW. Tortured, sleep deprived, and subject to all sorts of propaganda he along with 81 of his ship mates were eventually returned to the US. As a result of his PTSD he hasn’t been able to sleep for almost 50 years.

The Workout:

82 SSH (IC)

11 Burrpees OYO.

1 LAP around the Earth Fare Complex.

As we returned to our starting position I began the Second Hero Workout of the day. The “Sgt. Major”. This one is a WOD I’ve done before for the Honey Badger and is about my father who was a Command Sgt. Major in the 28th ID. Again for the sake of time I limited the usual 3 miles I try and incorporate into this workout for 3 laps instead. The exercises are as Follows.

28 Burpees

1 Lap

28 Burpees

56 Squats

1 Lap

28 Burpees

56 Squats

112 HR MErkins

1 LAP.

(Pick up the 6 if you can)

This pretty much took us up to the bell after a brief visit by the ruckers. Thanks to all who broke off to me to indulge me and these workouts. They are supposed to be hard and challenging and I hope we all got our money’s worth.

Running Boot camp: Sweep the Leg – FishTix

Group was split into teams of 4. Relay race around the parking lot two stops with exercises. Two runners traveled to stop 1 and stop 2 respectively while the other team members did the exercises at the stops. Once the runners arrived the running duties were handed off. Process was continued until the closing bell.

Stop 1 Exercises: HR Merkins, Dips, Burpees, CDD, Mike Tyson Merkins

Stop 2: Jump Squats, Flutters, Mnt Climbers, Lunges, Box Cutters

Rucking – VA – Olaf

4 corners with low slow squats, merkins, Lunges, and shoulder taps. After round 1 got a 40 and a 60 pound sand bag to spice it up. The bags were rotated around by the Pax.

Kettlebell – Armory – BandCamp

4 Rounds:

16 clusters (clean, squat, press

16 single arm swings (alternating)

16 lateral lunge with a row (8 a side)

Short Mosey

Some overhead lunges and suitcase deadlifts when the heart rates got too high.

Running – Flight Plan – Bass-O-Matic

Ran a bunch 🙂

At 6:00 I blew a whistle and we all reconvened for the longest Namearama I ever conducted a brief reminder of the Rooster, to read the newsletter and to have our Nantan of the Fort Esso lead us out.

Best of luck to Dark Helmet in his new role! Let’s all continue the mission!

AYE!

Grab ‘em by the ears

WARMUP: ran around big parking lot. Max was right that when you say “he won’t run far, he has boots on”, that’s a bit of a lightning bolt to make you want to run further and faster.

We stopped for round 1 of 11×33 paying tribute to our boy Cha-Ching. 11 burpees, 33 SSH OYO. Kept running back to COT for round 2 of 11×33. Rucks on, sandbags on, 10 squats OYO.
THE THANG: Picked up our kb and headed towards the stop light. Dropped the gear for 20 in / erkins (incline merkins). Grabbed the rucks for 20 shoulder presses.

Headed down the hill with all our gear and stopped half way for 20 tricep extensions (dropped sandbag, kept ruck on). Left kb and put the sandbag on for the bottom of the hill. Bottom of hill with ruck on, AMRAP the sandbag for shoulder presses. Back up the hill to the kb spot.

Drop the sandbag, grab the kb (by the ears I guess) for front shoulder lifts – AMRAP. Reason for the AMRAPs is because we wanted to max out and guys had different weights…and different stopping points.

Gear up and back up the hill to our incline merkin spot at the light. After 20, gear up to the school entrance for the last stop. Drop all the gear, ruck overhead for another 20 shoulder presses. Back to COT to drop the gear, then a lap around the small lot…with round 3 of 11×33. (We did have at least 4 former 1stF Qs present so why not…and then 9 other beasts, all with 1stF leadership qualities and/or current or previous site Q roles.)
MARY: Mixed it up and replaced core work with stretching let in a rotating fashion (core principle #4).
ANNOUNCEMENTS: thanksgiving convergence is on…thanksgiving. Upcoming December CSAUP- be there and get a team.

Do difficult and uncomfortable things! Life is going to throw these at you – why not prepare yourself!
COT: CSPAN style because we all need this.

3 Evolutions of Hurt

PAX were encouraged to add an extra 10-15 pounds to their rucks for this week’s version of intense ruck training. Right after a quick disclaimer it was explained that the reason for the added weight was to prepare for the reality of GORUCK event. Rucks never weigh 20 or 30 pounds at an event. They start there and go up with the weight of gear, food, and water. So why train with less than you are going to shoulder when it comes time to face the challenge?

Unfortunately only 3 PAX carried the added weight this week, so hopefully the message sank in. And the added heckling from Cheddah for those not increasing weight probably didn’t hurt either.

WARMUP:
SSH X25
Merkins (slick) X10
That’s all…..

THE THANG:
Evolution 1:
Ruck to the top of the parking lot, drop the sandbags and ruck to the other end of the lot. We had the full length of the soccer field fence on our left side.

– Bear crawl 3 parking spots, complete 1 merkin
– Bear crawl 3 parking spots, complete 2 merkins
– Continue the series until the end of the spaces and 10 merkins was reached.

Collect the sandbags and complete a ruck around the big loop.

Evolution 2:
Drop the sandbags at the end of the parking lot on the same section we bear crawled. Walk down to the half way point and drop our rucks.

Ladder with 10 on one end and 1 on the other.
– Curls with the ruck
– Bent over rows with the sandbag
– Run between ~50yds

Collect all the gear and complete another big loop.

Evolution 3:
Pretty simple and terrible. Starting at one end of the stretch we were working on and moving the full length of the fence.

Toss the sandbag and complete a Man Maker until you reach the end.

MARY:
Went around the group calling exercises. From memory, we had LBCs, Big Boys, Box Cutters, Freddy Mercuries, and at least one more I can’t remember.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
9/11 WOD at NAFO this Saturday at 0630. Bring a ruck and sandbag

COT:
Spocket is doing some great things with this AO!! I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it.
