The average age today was 48 with Hash Brown being the youngest at 26 and Twister/Short Sale being the War Daddies at 60. Today was a great example of the gift we have in F3. Many men live an isolated life of loneliness lacking friends and connections. They have lost track of school or service buddies years ago and Covid decimated their work and convenience relationships. What they are left with is time and no one to spend it with. That’s why F3 matters. We have true friendships that add value to our lives. We have a brotherhood of men that are older, younger, richer, and poorer. They don’t always look like you, vote like you, attend your church, or pull for your favorite team. And you know what, we are all better because of it. That’s why we have to share what was first given to us. EH that guy down the street. I promise he will appreciate the request as soon as he realizes you have what he needs. Be that guy for the guy that needs what you have.

Aye!

D-day at the Coaches Box

Today’s workout was about perspective. History provides the best perspective and on 6/6 we were reflecting on D-Day.

Started with a mosey towards the entrance of the high-school.

Stopped and did

20 SSH IC
10 Windmills IC

Mosey to the bottom of the hill right at the entrance.

To celebrate, honor, and remember the 80th anniversary of D-Day we executed the following:

80 seconds work
2:40 minutes recovery

80 HR Merkins
80 Squats
80 4ct Flutters
80Diamond Merkins
80 Calf Raises
80 LBCs

So the idea was all Pax do as many reps as possible in the 80 seconds then the “recovery” run was back to the top of the hill where we each did 6 burpees and then get back to the bottom. Any excess time left of the 2:40 is your “rest”.

The Pax loved this and looking at time we got through 7 rounds of this before breaking back towards COT.

On the way we stopped by the band lot and did a 80 yard bear crawl followed by 44 SSH to close us out.

One last note on perspective…. It’s easy for us to get caught up in the day to day but take a step back, reflect on how we all got here and the opportunities each day brings because of the sacrifices of others.

Thanks to Warning Track for the opportunity!

COT: Started with a reminder that F3 is about bettering the men that choose to appear in the gloom.
Rather than ask for standard prayer requests, YHC asked the group to list something positive that we could think about throughout the day. This turned quickly into a list of prayer requests…

F3 isn’t about any particular faith or viewpoint, we are here to become better partners, fathers, friends, and citizens of the world. We’re learning to live 3rd.

The Circle of Trust doesn’t have any prescribed formula, and our region tends to use it as a prayer chain. I feel being locked into this methodology is a bit of a disservice to ourselves and our time in the CoT. I say this in the least self-serving way possible.

This is our time to work on OURSELVES.

The CoT is a place where PAX have an opportunity to say what’s on their hearts. We could talk about personal pain and difficulty, and celebrate the victories we have against daily obstacles.

More often than not we hear about a friend or relative going through a tough time. I’m glad people are concerned, I really am, but what I would rather hear is how that affects you, and how that is going to change you. What action will you take? Send a gift card to your friend whose wife is going through some shit. Watch your neighbor’s kids so they have time to go to a job interview. Help change a set of brake pads. When you get home and the M hasn’t cleaned up after her Ramen mess for the 4th day in a row just smile, take a breath, and appreciate your M.

This morning as my CoT turned itself back into the prayer meeting I decided to read between the lines. I heard some PAX say some things that were the usual fare. What I heard was that we have a lot of men in the Fort dealing with anxiety over things they cannot control, things that don’t affect their daily lives.

So when I got it back, I simply asked that we think about what our brothers had to say and find a way to make the lives of those around us a bit better. Let’s live 3rd in a way that enriches and does not tear anything down.
