We roll in, they hatin, Olaf and YHC will get you wet ‘n dirty. Gonna get you wet n dirty, gonna get you wet n dirty, gonna make you crawl up hill and get you wet n dirty.

10 PAX showed up ready to get to Wet n Dirty at Laces In, WEP style. Disclaimer given by YHC.

The Thang

Warmup run up the hill to the stop sign, 5 burpees, then run back down the hill with butt kicks and toy soldiers. COP in the parking lot of all (IC):

SSH x 15
IW x 15
Windmills x 10
Hillbilly Walkers x 10
Merkins x 10
Honeymooner – 10 count
Right arm high – 10 count
left arm high – 10 count.

Mosey over to the stairway to heaven – Army Crawl, Hand Release Jack Webbs
Army Crawl to the first light pole, 1 hand release merkin, 4 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 2nd light pole, 2 hand release merkins, 8 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 3rd light pole, 3 hand release merkins, 12 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 4th light pole, 4 hand release merkins, 16 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 5th light pole, 5 hand release merkins, 20 overhead claps

Recover on our feet and hand off to Olaf.

Backwards bear crawl down the hill of the stairway. Mosey back up to get the 6.
Form 2 lines facing each other in the grass by the parking lot. Tunnel of love with a squat variation instead of a plank. Everyone goes through the tunnel twice. Mosey back up the hill to the stop sign and do some head, shoulders, knees, and toes. Mosey over to the old Springs lot (where the covered wall is located).

Once at the lot, put your feet on the curb/sidewalk and hold plank position. Going down the line, do a hip tap merkin (merkin/right hand touches right hip while coming up/merkin/left hand touches left hip while coming up). Each PAX does one and then holds plank until everyone has gone.

Circle up for ring of fire, monkey humper edition, 10 monkey humpers each while other PAX hold squat position (the mumblechatter here was amazing and highly inappropriate, probably owe some bombjacks)

Next up was some karoake, side lunges, backwards lunges, forward lunges, and then more backwards lunges. Followed by some people’s chair and Balls to the Wall. Brief talk on Mercy by Olaf before doing some plank walks back and forth on the sidewalk.

Start moseying back for COT, but Olaf realizes we still have a few minutes so we run a couple of sprints. Finish the Mosey back to WEP for COT and BOM.

Announcements – The Forging 11/19, Soccer Arms, 11-19, 3rd F Convergence 10-28, Christmas Party 12-17.

Prayers – Double D family member battling cancer, Finn’s parents and all those dealing with flooding from the Hurricane, Olaf and his M’s pregnancy.

Moleskin
1. Was great getting to Co-Q with Olaf today. Both of us tired and not 100%, but leaders often have to lead when not 100%. Olaf was in charge of marketing, YHC in charge of the BB.

2. Decided to go #oldschool today and get a little wet n dirty. Seems lately we have gotten away from this as Region. A few years ago, when I first started coming to F3, almost every workout I attended at WEP would result in YHC being covered in sweat, dirt, mud, grass, you name it. Can still remember one of my first few posts, Santini had us doing Superman with our entire body laying in the frost covered grass. Or others leading us through tunnel of love through the mud on a wet rainy day. This is where bonds with other men are built. When you have to go through the same SUCK, TOGETHER! Maybe its just me, but I don’t feel like bond is as strong when the workout doesn’t suck a little bit. Why, cuz we all remember the suck we endure together.

3. Thanks Lil E, for the chance to come and lead.

Longshanks (and Olaf)……out (mic drop).

11 men took the daily red pill this morning and joined me under the stars in the gloom on a perfect morning.  Drop thrill came in hot and unfortunately found a pot hole and tweaked his back but he stuck with us but please raise prayers up for him.

The Message:

The message this morning was more of a reflection on Whetstone in my life and how it has changed my perspective on empathy with a clearer understanding of our ability to have mercy on someone requires empathy.  To have empathy you either have to have direct experience or get perspective from someone that does have direct experience with the issue/event/people/place/etc.

FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS: Calling all Fort and Rock Pax

10/28/16
UPDATE:
I just got our work assignments.  We received 5 work orders for tree removal and 1 for house muckout (remove drywall, carpet, etc).  We will need to bring tools (chainsaws, axes, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, leaf blower, etc) like we did last week and additional tools (flat nosed shovels, hammers, sheetrock knives, wheelbarrows, etc) and safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, dust masks, etc) this week.

The current plan is that we will meet at the Lowes by Baxter at 5:00 and leave for Conway, SC.  We would complete work at about 2:00 or 3:00 so that we can return for trick-or-treating with our families.  We will need to bring lunches and water.

Please DM @darkhelmetf3 or email me: frankschwartz@me.com with your HCs.

==============================================================================

10/21/16
UPDATE:
Work crews leaving out tomorrow. We will need help next week as well, so please check your calendars and let me know if you can make it. Here’s the details for tomorrow’s work.

Everyone,
We have been assigned 6 work orders to remove fallen trees (some greater than 18″ diameter) in the Bishopsville area.  We will be meeting tomorrow morning at the Lowe’s in Baxter at 6:00 am and will be leaving at 6:15. This will put us in Bishopsville at about 8:00.

We will be splitting into 2 groups and each group will have a team leader and will work on 3 work orders.  We will carpool and drive down as groups since the groups will be working at different addresses.

The teams are a mix of F3 Pax and Men (and one M) from my church. Again, there will be opportunity to go again next weekend, so LET ME KNOW.

We need to bring the following tools and we will split them up between the 2 groups:

Chainsaws (I think 5 were volunteered and so please bring them along with gas, oil, sharpening tools or whatever else would be needed)
Crowbars
Rakes
Axes
Wheelbarrows

Bring what you need to work safely.
In order to ensure we are as safe as possible while working on these projects, remember not to work after dark when good visibility is no longer possible, and please be sure to bring:

  • Safety glasses / goggles
  • Work boots or sturdy closed toe shoes
  • Work gloves
  • Pants (not shorts)

We need to bring our own lunch and water.  The team leaders will bring a cooler for water and drinks to be put in.

We will work until 5:30 or 6:00 and so if we finish our work orders early then we will see if there are other neighbors in the area that would like some help.  We can then find a place to eat in Bishopsville or head home.

==============================================================================

10/19/16
UPDATE:
Flood waters are finally starting to recede on the coast in some areas to a point where we can get in to help. I don’t have all the details yet. They should be forthcoming soon, but here is what I know and what I need at this point.
WHAT I KNOW AT THIS POINT:
Early Saturday morning we are looking for strong backs and weak minds to travel to Myrtle Beach and Florence, SC to start the debris clearing. This means that we will need willing men, chainsaws, hand saws, loppers, shovels, possibly wheelbarrows, etc. We will be heading back that evening on this go around. (We will likely be doing an overnight trip next week once the mucking out of houses and such begins. Flood waters are not allowing for this in most areas at this time, is what I understand.) We will also be taking donations down with us. We will take the water that has been collected to now, and any other that we may be able to collect between now and then…
WHAT I NEED AT THIS POINT:
Your HCs ASAP! Hit me on twitter: @darkhelmetf3 (I’ll follow you back so we can share contact info if needed) and tell me if you can make it. It will be a very early start and a fairly late return that day.

Men, I know that there are TONS of ways to help right now, and TONS of places we could do it. If this doesn’t fit you, that’s ok, just help somewhere. However, this is what we are being asked to do for right now. It may seem like a small thing, but it will make a big difference.

==============================================================================

10/11/16
UPDATE:
Pax, I thought it would be good to give an update on where things stand with the relief efforts. There is much more damage and many more problems than we anticipated in SC, GA, and NC than we (in the Fort) have resources to take care of. It’s important to remember that we will hear of needs all over. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do it all. I often get frustrated and sad that we can’t just fix it, but so be it.

That said, at this time, we are in a holding pattern. The storm surge is continuing to rise in many of those areas, and over the next 48 hours or so there will be continued flooding and other problems that will continue to arise. It will likely be this weekend and into next week before we can safely enter any of those areas. So, as hard as it is, hang tight. Please keep letting me know about the needs that you hear of and about your individual availability to travel (possibly overnight) to affected areas over this weekend and into (and through) next week. Also, keep your eyes on the Twitter machine and FB, etc. for further updates.

Thank you, men, for all you do.
Helmet, out.

==============================================================================
10/8/16
Almost one year to the day from our relief efforts in Columbia, SC, and here we go again. Our brothers (F3), but maybe even more importantly, the communities where our brothers and sisters (God’s children) live are feeling the force and will soon be digging out from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew.

I am in contact with some of our coastal Pax and with members and leaders of my Church to try and get updates on needs. I imagine that there will be needs for donations, much like we had for Columbia (water, food, fuel, etc.), and also we want to organize work crews to go down as needed. At this point (10/8/16, 1700hrs), I know of many downed trees, lots of flooding, etc., but we do not know yet what can be done or when. Many communities (whole counties actually) have not started letting residents back in yet.

Here is what I need from you. I need to know if you can plan to go down with crews sometime in the coming days and weeks to administer relief. This will likely consist of delivering supplies, clearing roads, removing debris, and gutting homes and businesses that were flooded. We will need tools, strong backs, and donations. As soon as I know more, I will amend this post.

Again, at this point, if you can comment on this post, or DM me on Twitter, as to whether you can go and what days, that will help to start. Also, if you know of needs or people that are in those areas organizing efforts there, that would be great to know also.

Aye!

However, we are constantly reminded how truly blessed we are and how often we run into people who have very heavy burdens. YHC was reminded the night before of some folks that have truly heavy burdens. In comparison, mine are light. So, let’s pick up our cinder blocks and move cheerfully on!!

19 Pax posted to Laces In including 3 runners who were looking to get in 9 holes of running at the golf course.

Weather

With the recent start to Fall, the weather is quickly becoming perfect F3 weather. Soon, it will be time to choose long sleeve vs. short sleeve. In YHC opinion, that is a perfect time to post!

YHC was looking forward to this Q this week and had reviewed several backblasts to prepare. While many had visited the ‘Merica Hill, it was just too good to pass up this week. YHC clowned car in from Baxter with Atticus and Flat Tire. As we exited the vehicle, Atticus stated that SSHs hurt his ankles. While YHC was planning to include them in the Weinke, this statement meant that we should definitely do more.

On another note, a clown car is where it is at. I know CSPAN (dubbed Uber) and several others have one. Pax are not meant to be post alone and that goes for the ride to the AO. I always enjoy great conversation with whomever I clown car with and today was not an exception. Love the conversation with Flat Tire and Atticus as we continue to strengthen each other and hold each other accountable.

Lastly, this week I received an excellent message from Maximus about how to “Help the Next Gen Win” from North Point church near Atlanta, GA. You can listen here: http://Help the Next Gen Win . The message offers purpose for sharing experience and guidance to help the next generation win. As a father, it hit home for me and was great timing. Thanks Maximus!

Naked Man Moleskine:

It has been a long time (too long) since I have led a workout. If you haven’t led or haven’t led in a while it is a good feeling to get back out there.  It didn’t hurt that the group that had arrived today brought some really good mumblechatter.  That made it seem a bit easier.

I am a bit late getting this backblast posted but this workout occurred shortly after the protesting began in Charlotte, so there was a lot of discussion and prayers regarding peace and understanding.

A workout happened. This is where you read about it.

  • QIC: Dark Helmet
  • When: 09/14/16
  • Pax: Twister (Respect), Birdcage, Leg Breaker, Crab Cakes, Cha-Ching, Double Dribble (FNG!), Java, Lil E, Figaro, Kielbasa, Olaf, On The Rocks, Witch Hunt, Flat Tire, Maximus, Bonsai, Dark Helmet (QIC)

I always love to pull up and see a lot full of cars. Oooh… and an FNG to boot… Fun times…

I gave a very official disclaimer, and with that we were off…

First we moseyed to the lot across Ardrey St. from the entrance driveway to the park.
Warm up
Windmills, Merkins, Moroccan Nightclubs, Squats, Mountain Climbers, SSHs… all around 15 or so a piece…

Then it was time to go to church… Mosey up Ardrey Street to the Church of the Nazarene
Partner up – SIZE MATTERS
– Wheelbarrow up the steps and run down – flapjack
– Bunny hop up the steps and run down
– Run to the top of the steps hitting every step, then run down
Repeat this sequence (all of it) X 3

Mosey over to the wall for a little Pink Floyd (soon to be a lexicon submission = a series of wall exercises of varying types):
– People’s chair for a 30 count, the last 20 count with air presses
– BTTW for a 30 count
– Descending testicles – 3 at top, 2 at 45, 1 at bottom
– Repeato x 3

Mosey back to the parking lot hill (the BIG hill was too wet) at WEP for another soon to be submitted to the lexicon:
The Grand Old Duke of York (a series of terribles up and down a hill)
– Grab your original partner, run down the hill and partner carry up the hill then flapjack (modify = Run backwards up hill)
– Next, partner 1 run down and bear crawl up while partner does LBCs then flapjack
– Since this was a crowd pleaser, we did it two more times…

What’s that? Someone’s puking and someone else is wandering aimlessly toward the cars?
We must be done… Jog it down to the parking lot cul-de-sac and plank for the 6.

Then we counted, name-a-rama’ed, and gave the FNG his name. He likes basketball… His name is now Double Dribble… This is not a prostate joke…

Helmet, out…

Lots of talk about FNG “skinny jeans’ worship leader at Forest Hill Fort Mill, he did great, and #TCLAPS for Ginsu closing the deal on his EH. We talked about The #ShieldLock and supporting each other when needed.

We also talked a quick lesson on the vertical relationship with God and the importance of having quality relationships on your horizontal (this world) relationships, in my worldview you can’t have one without the other.

In F3 it is described this way:
CONCENTRICA: The circular rings formed by a man’s relationships on the Big Ball. Please look it up on the lexicon for a much more articulate definition.

1. First Ring: M (wife)

2. Second Ring: Shorties (children)

3. Third Ring: Shield Lock (brothers in arms)

4. Fourth Ring: Blades (younger men)

5. Fifth Ring: Mammon (work)

Be a better man today than you were yesterday, and I appreciate the invite Twister, and it is always an honor to Q a pack of #HIM,
