Where’s my package?

  • QIC: Tchaser
  • When: 10/25/16
  • Pax: Pusher, Ginsu, Seacrest, Atticus, Tesh, Bubba Gump and Package*
  • Posted In: The Colosseum

8 Men showed up to #Colosseum this fine morning and were welcomed to chilly temps and a #Weinke that looked good on paper…don’t they all. Disclaimer presented and off we moseyed to the basketball court for some warm-up. 10 WM, 10, IW, 10 low slow squats, 20 SSH and a plank series to loosen up the muscles. Pax then moseyed down to the field to put in some work. It was a chilly morning but not cold…however, it was cold enough that by the time we got down to the field, nobody could find their Package….#PrematureEvacuation.

    The Thang

Burpee Dash: Start at the end zone, sprint to the 10 yd line and do 1 burpee, sprint to the 20 and do 2, sprint to the 30 and do 3, etc. etc. until the other end zone yields 10 burpees. (55 total burpees) Finish and sprint back down the field and LBCs until the 6 comes home.

Merkin Dash: Same concept as above except the count was by 5s. So, sprint to 10 yd line for 5 merkins, 20 yd line for 10 merkins, etc. etc. until the other end zone yields 50 merkins Appropriate modifier was CDD. (275 total merkins/CDD) Finish and sprint back down the field and LBCs until the 6 comes home.

Squat Dash: As above with 5 counts. (275 total squats)

Mosey to the entrance hill. Lunge walk up the hill then mosey back to the base. Reverse lunge walk up the hill then mosey over to COT to stick the landing at 0600.

Great group this morning and the burpee dash quickly shut down the #mumblechatter…even from Gump. #Mumblechatter picked back up a bit during the Squat Dash and hill portion with Ginsu and Seacrest recounting the NCSU/Clemson game. Apparently there was a merkin bet payoff that was put on hold since most agreed 275 was probably plenty for one day.

Announcements were plentiful. Convergence Friday at Slow Burn followed by 3rd F, Christmas party, Nov. 19 various happenings, Joe Davis run, Baxter trail race this weekend, ASG races this weekend, etc. Read your newsletter.

Prayers for family, parents and the injured.

Thankful for the health and ability to get out and do this nonsense and prayers that we take that same ethic out into the world we are in and make a difference.

As always, thanks for the opportunity – Tchaser, out!

Webb-o-Rama at The Colosseum

  • QIC: Old Bay
  • When: 10/18/2016
  • Pax: Santini, Tesh, T-Square, SnapHook, Ginsu, Weezer, Lil E, Spiderman, Sir Topham Hat, Nomad (FNG), Crosscheck, Mission Impossible, The Fridge, Old Bay
  • Posted In: The Colosseum

14 gathered for another perfect morning that almost didn’t qualify as “gloom” given how bright the moon was. Disclaimer was given, and off we moseyed before YHC thought to ask if there were any FNGs. Affirmative. Sir Topham Hat (and Weezer?) had convinced a neighbor/friend that posting would be a good idea. Our FNG prolly needs to find better friends.

Warm-up
We kept the warm-up short since there was so much to cover in the main event.
– SSH x30 (IC)
– Mountain Climbers x20 (IC)
– Windmill x10 (IC)
– Monkey Humpers x15 (IC)

Mosey over to the playground mini-track.

The Thang
The “Webb-o-Rama” is the next evolution of an idea that started at workout at Alcatraz. It all began with the question: “How can we take the fun of Jack Webbs, and apply it to other exercises.”

Four cones were evenly spaced down the straight-away part of the track (about 10 yards apart). Pax started with a lap around the track and stopped at Cone 1:

– Traditional Jack Webb (ratio 1:4) (1-4 reps)
– >> bear crawl to cone 2
– Dan Taylor variant – Knee version of Mukhtar N’Diayes (1-4 reps)
– 1 Knee tar N’Diayes : 4 Run Stance Switch
– >> Crab walk to cone 3
– Captain Thor – 1 big boy sit up to 4 American Hammers (1-4 reps)
– >> Duck walks to cone 4
– Sherpee Webb – 1 Burpee to 4 SSH (4 count) (1-4 reps)

Lap around and return to cone 1
Repeat all webs (reps 5, 6, 7)
Lap around and return to cone 1
Repeat all webs (reps 8, 9)

The goal was to get to rep 10, but we ran out of time. Cones collected and we return to COT. Welcome FNG “Nomad”, who didn’t seem to even break a sweat. Let’s just hope Santini’s #mumblechatter didn’t scare him off.

Prayer request:
– Sir Topham father
– General prayer for marriages, kids, and families

Strong work by all pax. It was an honor to lead this morning.

Sacrificial Lambs at The Colosseum

  • QIC: Flat Tire
  • When: 10/11/16
  • Pax: Ginsu, Mission Impossible, Peabody, One The Rocks, Cross Check, Fridge
  • Posted In: The Colosseum

A dark and chilly morning greeted the 7 PAX that headed the call of The Colosseum. Competition is fierce for Tuesday AO’s around The Fort region but I always enjoy this AO.  Rooney got an upgraded playground installed, there are hills to play on, plenty of walls and ledges, everything you could want.  What did we do at this workout?  Well, keep reading for that.  But, full disclosure, I lifted the entire workout from Pusher and Cake Boss.  This is basically what we did at The Deep on Saturday.  You know what they say; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

The Thang:

No FNG’s so we took a short mosey around the school to the parking lot above the football field.

COP:

  • 20 SSH
  • 10 Merkins
  • 20 Moroccan Night Club
  • 20 Squat Walkers
  • 20 Seal Jacks – I screw this up every time I try to Q it. Legs together with clap or out? We (I) finally got it right and did 20 good ones

Mosey down the stairs to the cold, dew covered football field:

Ladder with 60 yard run between. Begin 1st exercise and add next exercise with # of reps.

  • 1 Merkin (12 total)
  • 2 Squats (22 total)
  • 3 LBCs (30 total)
  • 4 Mak Tar Chi (36 total)
  • 5 Burpees (40 total)
  • 6 Freddy Mercury’s (42 total)
  • 7 Jumping Lunges (42 total)
  • 8 Flutter Kicks (40 total)
  • 9 Carolina Dry Docks (36 total)
  • 10 Side Straddle Hops (30 total)
  • 11 Donkey Kicks (22 total)
  • 12 Leg Raises (12 total)

This group was fast through this ladder! No messing around and only minimum grumblings.  Ginsu sang something about the Flat Tire 12 days of Christmas.  Good times!

YHC talked about the theme of the month, mercy.   Greatest example of mercy is Christ dying on our behalf.  2 Corinthians 5:21:  He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. AYE!

Mosey out of the football field gloom up the stairs and over to the now well-lit basketball goals. We used our imagination to envision a track around the perimeter of the basketball courts.

Backward Indian Run

  • Line up for Indian run but 1st man peels off and does merkin. Upon completion, catch up and then it’s the new leader turn for merkins. Lap 1
  • Lap 2, switch to wide arm merkins
  • Lap 3, diamond merkins
  • Lap 4, stagger left
  • Lap 5, stagger right

5 minutes of Mary

Each PAX led their choice.

  • Flutters, hello dolly, protractor, American Hammer, Captain Thor, LBC, and more merkins for good measure

NMM

Great time with a solid PAX this AM. Peabody even said the workout was “really fun”.  Not sure if that’s good or bad?  This workout was good because the group stayed together the entire time.  Perfect weather and great brotherhood, can’t beat that.

Announcement – sign up now for the Christmas party and pay Italian Job. 3rd F Convergence Oct 28

Prayers – friends and family sickness, job opportunities, injured PAX, our country and this crazy election

Thanks Seacrest for having me. Honored to lead! Flat Tire

FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS: Calling all Fort and Rock Pax

10/28/16
UPDATE:
I just got our work assignments.  We received 5 work orders for tree removal and 1 for house muckout (remove drywall, carpet, etc).  We will need to bring tools (chainsaws, axes, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, leaf blower, etc) like we did last week and additional tools (flat nosed shovels, hammers, sheetrock knives, wheelbarrows, etc) and safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, dust masks, etc) this week.

The current plan is that we will meet at the Lowes by Baxter at 5:00 and leave for Conway, SC.  We would complete work at about 2:00 or 3:00 so that we can return for trick-or-treating with our families.  We will need to bring lunches and water.

Please DM @darkhelmetf3 or email me: frankschwartz@me.com with your HCs.

==============================================================================

10/21/16
UPDATE:
Work crews leaving out tomorrow. We will need help next week as well, so please check your calendars and let me know if you can make it. Here’s the details for tomorrow’s work.

Everyone,
We have been assigned 6 work orders to remove fallen trees (some greater than 18″ diameter) in the Bishopsville area.  We will be meeting tomorrow morning at the Lowe’s in Baxter at 6:00 am and will be leaving at 6:15. This will put us in Bishopsville at about 8:00.

We will be splitting into 2 groups and each group will have a team leader and will work on 3 work orders.  We will carpool and drive down as groups since the groups will be working at different addresses.

The teams are a mix of F3 Pax and Men (and one M) from my church. Again, there will be opportunity to go again next weekend, so LET ME KNOW.

We need to bring the following tools and we will split them up between the 2 groups:

Chainsaws (I think 5 were volunteered and so please bring them along with gas, oil, sharpening tools or whatever else would be needed)
Crowbars
Rakes
Axes
Wheelbarrows

Bring what you need to work safely.
In order to ensure we are as safe as possible while working on these projects, remember not to work after dark when good visibility is no longer possible, and please be sure to bring:

  • Safety glasses / goggles
  • Work boots or sturdy closed toe shoes
  • Work gloves
  • Pants (not shorts)

We need to bring our own lunch and water.  The team leaders will bring a cooler for water and drinks to be put in.

We will work until 5:30 or 6:00 and so if we finish our work orders early then we will see if there are other neighbors in the area that would like some help.  We can then find a place to eat in Bishopsville or head home.

==============================================================================

10/19/16
UPDATE:
Flood waters are finally starting to recede on the coast in some areas to a point where we can get in to help. I don’t have all the details yet. They should be forthcoming soon, but here is what I know and what I need at this point.
WHAT I KNOW AT THIS POINT:
Early Saturday morning we are looking for strong backs and weak minds to travel to Myrtle Beach and Florence, SC to start the debris clearing. This means that we will need willing men, chainsaws, hand saws, loppers, shovels, possibly wheelbarrows, etc. We will be heading back that evening on this go around. (We will likely be doing an overnight trip next week once the mucking out of houses and such begins. Flood waters are not allowing for this in most areas at this time, is what I understand.) We will also be taking donations down with us. We will take the water that has been collected to now, and any other that we may be able to collect between now and then…
WHAT I NEED AT THIS POINT:
Your HCs ASAP! Hit me on twitter: @darkhelmetf3 (I’ll follow you back so we can share contact info if needed) and tell me if you can make it. It will be a very early start and a fairly late return that day.

Men, I know that there are TONS of ways to help right now, and TONS of places we could do it. If this doesn’t fit you, that’s ok, just help somewhere. However, this is what we are being asked to do for right now. It may seem like a small thing, but it will make a big difference.

==============================================================================

10/11/16
UPDATE:
Pax, I thought it would be good to give an update on where things stand with the relief efforts. There is much more damage and many more problems than we anticipated in SC, GA, and NC than we (in the Fort) have resources to take care of. It’s important to remember that we will hear of needs all over. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do it all. I often get frustrated and sad that we can’t just fix it, but so be it.

That said, at this time, we are in a holding pattern. The storm surge is continuing to rise in many of those areas, and over the next 48 hours or so there will be continued flooding and other problems that will continue to arise. It will likely be this weekend and into next week before we can safely enter any of those areas. So, as hard as it is, hang tight. Please keep letting me know about the needs that you hear of and about your individual availability to travel (possibly overnight) to affected areas over this weekend and into (and through) next week. Also, keep your eyes on the Twitter machine and FB, etc. for further updates.

Thank you, men, for all you do.
Helmet, out.

==============================================================================
10/8/16
Almost one year to the day from our relief efforts in Columbia, SC, and here we go again. Our brothers (F3), but maybe even more importantly, the communities where our brothers and sisters (God’s children) live are feeling the force and will soon be digging out from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew.

I am in contact with some of our coastal Pax and with members and leaders of my Church to try and get updates on needs. I imagine that there will be needs for donations, much like we had for Columbia (water, food, fuel, etc.), and also we want to organize work crews to go down as needed. At this point (10/8/16, 1700hrs), I know of many downed trees, lots of flooding, etc., but we do not know yet what can be done or when. Many communities (whole counties actually) have not started letting residents back in yet.

Here is what I need from you. I need to know if you can plan to go down with crews sometime in the coming days and weeks to administer relief. This will likely consist of delivering supplies, clearing roads, removing debris, and gutting homes and businesses that were flooded. We will need tools, strong backs, and donations. As soon as I know more, I will amend this post.

Again, at this point, if you can comment on this post, or DM me on Twitter, as to whether you can go and what days, that will help to start. Also, if you know of needs or people that are in those areas organizing efforts there, that would be great to know also.

Aye!

BB or it didn’t happen

  • When: 10/04/16

Warmup

Mosey to halfwall by playground
SSH x30
Windmill x20
Vertical Merkins on half wall till failure (lower chest to top of wall and back up is 1)
Wall sit 1:30, jog across parking lot and back
Vertical Merkins till failure
Mosey to football field

The Thang

Dora with 100x pushups, 200x situps, 300x squats
Mosey to hill
Bearcrawl up hill to wall and hold balls to walls
Armlock with backs to hill, Backpedal up hill (aka Bernie Sanders I’m told) x5 (it burns…)
Bearcrawl to ballstowalls again
Burpees x10 OYO
Seal Team (armlock) situps x30
Mosey to COT

6MOM

Freddy Mercury’s x20
Protractor
American Hammer x20

Naked Moleskin

This turned out to be a fairly well rounded workout.  I always wing it, so its like cooking a soup with whatever you can pull out of the fridge: you never know how it’s going to turn out till you taste it.  This armlocked workout brought to you by the third ring.  I kinda stumbled over the exact terms but here they are:
1. First Ring: M (wife)
2. Second Ring: Shorties (children)
3. Third Ring: Shield Lock (brothers in arms)
4. Fourth Ring: Blades (younger men)
5. Fifth Ring: Mammon (work)

Prayers go out to Ginsu’s 2.0 that has “minor” surgery today;  (As a parent, I never consider it minor…)  Deacon is headed off to South America, safe travels brother;

Lastly, if you Q, write a backblast.  The Fort is at a 50% completion rate… That’s unacceptable IMHO.  In videogame culture theres a phrase ‘screenshot or it didn’t happen,’ and this applies to workouts too.  Backblast or it didn’t happen.  I look back at the Swamp Rabbit BB on my first workout, and I see my name with the FNG tag.  I have vivid memories swell up when I read the backblast.  If you don’t post a backblast with an FNG, YOU ARE STEALING SOMETHING FROM HIM.

Coliseum – Identity and HOPE in Sky Q not in Bourne or Cake Boss

  • QIC: Cake Boss & Bourne
  • When: 9/27/16
  • Pax: Senator Tressel, Stang, Photobomb, Atticus, Double Dribble, On the Rocks, Seacrest, Tesh, Lil E, Bourne, Cake Boss
  • Posted In: The Colosseum

After a rough week in our neighboring city to the north and with the presidential debate Monday night, 11 PAX came to the Coliseum to work off some tension and maybe find some HOPE as it seems to be diminishing each day. However, with Sky Q and F3 there is always HOPE, as we know we are blessed by a Sky Q that gives us everything and we have brothers along each side of us that never leave us behind. Bourne and I collaborated on a beat down and a message of hope that we meant for encouragement in a time that seems dark but Sky Q sent a light for us all and that light is all we need to get through any storm!

The Thang:

Mosey to back of Middle School for for COP:

  • SSHs
  • Merkins
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Wide Arm Merkins
  • Hillbilly Walkers
  • Squats
  • Mountain Climbers
  • (Stang was bitching we were too quiet and not “Apache” enough)
  • Plank series
  • More SSHs
  • couple other things

Mosey over to Basketball court lot

  • Count off in 1’s and 2’s
    • 1’s run suicide while 2’s do squats
    • flapjack
    • 1’s run suicide while 2’s do Imperial Walkers
    • flapjack
    • 1’s run suicide w/5 burpess at each stop while 2’s do sumo squats
    • flapjack

Hand off to the man!

Borne take over at the Q:

Divided into teams of two.

1. Dora team Merkins:
40 Diamond
50 regular,
60 wide arm. Partner ran wide around parking lot.

2. Recovery phase:
One partner rest with forearm planks, second partner light jog around parking lot. Switch.
Apache 10 count… Secrest shared a little bit about himself.

3. Switch partners.
Tell each other about your M & 2.0s or something else about yourself if you’re not married.
Partner Doris:
100 sidesaddle hops,
200 overhead clamps,
300 calf raises.

4. Mosey to wall. Wall squats with Indian run beer crawls. Three sets.

Cot:
Jn 15:1-4. announcements, prayer request, telling about the other partner’s M and 2.0

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15

We talked about hope and finding hope in Jesus as in these dark times it is so easy to focus on the negative and sink to low places, however if we abide in JC and he in us, we can’t help but be grateful and blessed with everything he has given to us. We still live in a great country and have so much, so why would we lose hope in the one that paid it all for all of us!

Have a great week! Thanks Seacrest for the lead!

Pitbulls in Pajamas – 4 at The Colosseum

  • QIC: Dark Helmet
  • When: 09/20/16
  • Pax: Tesh, Bubba Gump, On The Rocks, Dark Helmet (QIC)
  • Posted In: The Colosseum

Another exercise in backblasting… This one is especially important because there are a lot of guys who want to know what happened. You know how I know that? ONLY 4 OF US WERE THERE. 🙂

I thought that I was marketing well, but I was up against the re-launch of Block Party and apparently no one believes me anymore when I say that the workout will be like a dandelion blowing in a gentle breeze. I even posted a picture of puppies in pajamas… Then Anchorman pointed out that the puppies were, in fact, pitbulls… That’s fair. I should have made note of that… Well, regardless of the reason, there were still 4 who came ready to work, so work we did…

First, we warm up…
We took a lap around the two bus lanes in front of the Elementary School and Middle School and did some dynamic stretching and warming up as we went (toy soldiers, knees to chest, etc.), then we circled up, well… squared up?…. really, more of a trapezoid maybe?… Whatever… and then we continued our warm up:
SSHs, windmills, merkins, squats, etc… and then we did Moroccan Nightclubs. Tesh gave us an education on proper form. Two insights there: 1. Most of us are doing them wrong.  2. If you do them right, they really suck…

The Thang:
Today’s delight was 4 corners-style around the two bus lanes in front of the Elem & Middle School. Partner up and between the two of you complete the following (One of you should be doing one exercise while the other does the other and then flapjack at a predetermined number or when one of you is tired):
Corner 1: 100 Merkins/100 Squats
Corner 2: 40 burpees/80 LBCs
Corner 3: 100 Curb Dips/100 Flutter Kicks
Corner 4: Something awful I don’t remember now… Dang it. This is why you should plan your weinke ahead and write it down, or you should write your backblast sooner after you finish the workout…
We did about 3 rounds of this, and then ran back to the cars for On The Rocks to lead us in a little Mary. Way to step up and start getting used to leading us fools!

That’s all I got for now.
Helmet, out.
