IronPax ’23 Week 0

IT’S IRON PAX SEASON!!!! Week 0 was a great reminder of what’s expected and how hard you will be pushed this month.

Week 0 was in honor of Gary R Wieneke, SP4, who served in the United States Army as an X-ray Spec with the 128th Evac Hospital in Germany from September 1955 to 1958. Mr Wieneke is the father of one of F3Greenwood’s own, Michael Wieneke, F3Brut. Mr. Wieneke passed away at the age of 83 and Brut created this workout in honor of him.
Aside from serving his country, Mr. Wieneke was a renowned track and field coach in the US. He coached the US Junior National Team. He was the head coach at the University of Illinois from 1967 until his retirement after the 2002-2003 season. Wieneke was a nine0time NCAA District IV Coach of the year, was named the NCAA National Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year in 1987 and garnered three Big Ten Outdoor Coach of the Year. He has been inducted into numerous different Halls of Fame, among them are the US Track and Field and Cross Country and University of Illinois Athletic Halls of Fame.
Behind the numbers
800 meters was his best event. He coached 11 different student-athletes to 27 Big Ten titles in this event
13 reps for the warm-up exercises represents the number of Big Ten Conference Championships his teams won
5 warm-up exercises represent 1 for each Olympic athlete that he coached
7 different exercises and the 8 burpees after each exercise represent the date he passed away – 7/8/2021
Format
Complete the workout for time
Need a 400-meter track or path marked out
Coupon is needed for this workout
Start the timer when the warm-up starts.
The Thang

The encouragement that happened throughout the workout was top notch. While this was terrible, we all finished. Seeing the list of things that has to get done, is daunting, we all made it to the other side. Don’t let the daunting task stop you in your tracks. You can preserver and overcome.

Great job gents!

8.14.23 at The Badger

In the gloomy morning of August 14, 2023, 10 PAX descended upon the Honey Badger to put in work.

Started off with a timed 2-mile run. Finished that up, did some Mary in waiting for the six.

Headed over to the pull up bars for the main event.

Bradley

On January 3, 2010, while on a dismounted area reconnaissance patrol in the vicinity of Badvan village, his 13-man platoon-sized element was attacked by indirect mortar fire and an improvised explosive device. The initial attack threw an Airman and a Soldier into an adjacent creek, critically wounding the Airman and mortally wounding the Soldier. A second Soldier was mortally wounded and thrown 200 meters across the village by the blast. Airman Smith, without regard to his own safety, immediately rushed from his covered position, and into the waist-high water of the creek to save his fellow Airman and recover the killed Soldier. After moving the victims of the improvised explosive device attack to the Casualty Collection Point, Airman Smith volunteered to retrieve the soldier thrown across the village. Determined to never leave a comrade behind, Airman Smith proceeded at extreme risk, and without regard to his personal safety, along the eastern edge of the village to the Soldier’s remains. Airman Smith retrieved the fallen Soldier and began maneuvering back through the village toward the extraction site. Airman Smith waded back through the waist-high creek and proceeded toward the Casualty Collection Point. Upon arrival, a second Improvised Explosive Device detonated, killing Airman Smith and the platoon medic instantly.

MOGADISHU MILE WOD

WARMUP: Mosey in the parking lot with some stretchy stuff.
THE THANG: Mogadishu Mile History – “Three Rangers Foundation”
In the late Summer of 1993, then-President Bill Clinton deployed a Special Operations Task Force (Task Force Ranger) to Mogadishu, Somalia, to capture Somali warlord Mohammed Farah-Adid. The bulk of that Task Force was composed of American Rangers from the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. On 3-4 October 1993, Task Force Ranger became embroiled with Somalia militiamen in an overnight gun battle, the intensity of which was likened, at the time, to the most intense firefights in Vietnam. (This story is captured and told in Mark Bowden’s best-selling book, “Blackhawk Down,” as well as in the major motion picture, by the same name.)
On the afternoon of 3 October 1993, Task Force Ranger boarded Army helicopters for what was expected to be a “textbook” raid to capture two of Adid’s lieutenants. Using rocket-propelled grenades, Somalia militiamen shot down two US Blackhawk helicopters, turning a planned raid into an unexpected rescue mission. Driving that change of mission was the galvanized commitment of American Rangers to “never leave a fallen comrade.”
When the US and Pakistani relief convoy arrived on the morning of 4 October to relieve the battered Ranger force and return them to the Mogadishu Olympic Stadium, there was only enough room in the armored vehicles for the dead and severely wounded. The walking wounded and the few unscathed Rangers would move from the helicopter crash site to the Olympic Stadium on foot – a distance of about a mile – all the while still under attack from rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. At the end of the battle, 18 Americans were dead and 73 were wounded, and one was captured. To those moving by foot on the morning of 4 October, that relatively short but lethal distance between the helicopter crash site and the Olympic Stadium became known as “The Mogadishu Mile.”

I neglected to remember the significance of the rep count 19. It represents the 18 service members killed + 1 captured.

4 Rounds to be completed with a coupon. Options were Ruck, Cinder Block, Kettle Bell. Never lose contact with your coupon. Shield & Click Bait completed this with a weight vest.

4 ROUNDS
19 Ground-to-Overheads
19 Squats with coupon racked on the front
19 Push Ups: 19 with left hand on the coupon then 19 with right hand on the coupon (38 push ups per round)
400m run with coupon

Once we completed that WOD, we went to the pull up bars.
One man on every bar for 19 pull ups. Every remaining man holds a 6″ plank until all pull ups are completed. Flapjack.
Repeat.

MARY: A few of these exercises for 19 reps.
