Answering the call of my Shieldlock brother needing a Q for The Ballroom, I figured I could dish out some pain.  PAX could modify up or down as needed.  Its YOUR acceleration. OWN it!

Warmup

Imperial Walkers, Hillbilly Walkers, Windmills, Cherry Pickers, Big Arm Circles, Baby Arm Circles, Moroccan nightclubs, Arm Stretch, Down dog, Calves, Honeymooner, Down dog, Calves, Honeymooner, Down dog, Walk leg and hands together and stand slowly

The Deal – 3 Rounds, 9 exercises each focusing on Upper body, Core and Legs

Round 1 – 10 each exercise

Merkins, LBCs, Calf Raises, Diamond Merkins, Flutter Kicks, Squats, Wide Arm Merkins, Hello Dolly, Lunges

Take a lap or Bear Crawl until crew gets back

Round 2 – 10 each exercise, find a curb

Incline Merkins, Bridges, Step Ups, Switchboards on and off the curb, Rosalitas, Side Lunges, Dip, Freddie Mercuries, Back Lunges

Take a lap or Crawl Bear until crew returns

Round 3 – 10 each exercise, find a curb

Decline Merkins, Heel taps, Al Gore, Left Incline Merkins (left foot and hand on curb), BB Situp, Right Incline Merkins (Rt foot and hand on curb), WWI situp

Take a lap (fast guys were to take 2 laps)

Just. Keep. Posting.

On a crisp 48 degree morning, a similar # of pax posted for a convergence at The Fort/Milkshake to commemorate 8 yrs of pain and impact in the Gloom of Fort Mill, SC and elsewhere in York County.   The occasion drew pax from Rock Hill, Metro and Raleigh.

Naked Man Moleskin

8 years…Is that a long time?  Well, the average time of degree completion for US college students is 6 years.  Only 50% of startups make it to the 5th year mark.  So, I suppose 8 years qualifies as something of a landmark.  At the same time, I don’t personally remember much about being 8 years old.  What about the 8 years from 2-10 years old?  Or maybe 10-18 years old?  Yes, I remember more…and if I had my way I’d like to forget some of those moments!

Well, I can remember quite a bit of the past 8 years.  I quite clearly remember 9.29.12…a date etched in my memory like my wedding day, my daughters’ birth dates and my birthday.

As I reflect back on 8 years of #Impact delivered by the men of F3TheFort, what really matters is 10.06.12 and 10.13.12.  You see, those were the Saturdays when pax returned to WEP for week 2 and week 3.  And FNGs posted for their own personal version of #TheLaunch.  And then Saturdays became Tuesdays, too.  And then a short time later they also became Thursdays.   In the end, what matters the most is not what happened in the past, but what happens today.  Or what will happen tomorrow when pax post to one of 30+ workouts across Fort Mill/Tega Cay or 70+ workouts across York County.

Just. Keep. Posting.  The one true constant across life is #Change.  Since 2012, I’ve moved to a different house,  nurtured two chicks out of the nest, collected a paycheck from two additional employers and traversed through a lot of ups and downs.  One of my rocks during this period has been the community of #HIMs known as F3TheFort.  You’ve been steady in your acceptance of me each time I post.  And along the way, you’ve revealed to me more and more parts of myself as you’ve revealed parts of yourself.  I know I’m all the better for it, and so is my family.  I’m pretty certain you’re better too.  And in the process our town, county and country are also better.

So, yes, we should take heart in what’s transpired over the past 8 years.  It is remarkable.  It is a blessing.  Some might call it a miracle….or miracles.  And the only way to honor this fruit and express our gratitude to God and the men who’ve contributed (past and present) is to Just. Keep. Posting.  Because if a day ever comes when no one posts…well…let’s Just. Keep. Posting.

Football not Footloose

Its September!! Are you ready for some football? Well, Boss Hog apparently isn’t since he tweeted out YHC was bringing a truck load of pain via from some crappy college program, that team from the south (fans of that team from up north will get that joke). Of course Boss Hog was just trying to poke the bear. Of course it worked seeing that I am not a fan of either of those programs (WE ARE PENN STATE), the weinke was developed to be not-a-moderate and emulate a typical football conditioning workout – kuddos go to watching my son and the PKMS football team practice this week.

The tweet definitely brought out some #HIM and a PAX posting for his second time (Ranger)!

Mossy to church parking lot for COP: windmills, low slow squat, Moroccan nightclubs, IW…while we were in COP we noticed the Minnow Pond PAX heading down the hill so we decided to give them a warm welcome by lining up and performing Monkey Humpers as they passed by.

Mossy to other church parking lot for and individual OYO pain station:

100 Merkins

50 Squats

100 LBCs

50 Side Lunges

100 CDD

50 Big Boys

100 American Hammers

50 Mountain Climbers

As PAX were completing this, they took a lap around the church.

Once done, mossy back to other church parking lot for 2 rounds of:

Suicides (whats a football conditioning workout W/O them) – those who had injuries planked as PAX did suicides. Up/Downs – running in place then doing burpees as called out.

Toy soldiers to Withers Street.

3 rounds of:

Run to top of hill, 10 merkins, run back, 10 LBCs. Those with injuries did 10 burpees, 15 merkins, 20 LBCs.

The Limp Noodle at The Ballroom

After a quick tour of the day’s pain stations the PAX were offered the opportunity to chose their partner for this morning’s work.

While one partner would run to the pain station near the bridge to nowhere where the following options were available: Merkins, Shoulder Taps, Burpees, Plank Jacks, Side Straddle Hops and Seal Jacks…  plot twist??  PAX were free to chose the number of each that they would do before running back to their partner who was busy with Squats, LBCs, Flutters, V Ups, Bobby Hurleys and Reverse LBCs until relieved.

In the end, over 2 miles were completed along with many of the above… Not too shabby for a “moderate” workout.

Thrill… Running!?

So Boss Hogg the fastest man in Fort Mill invited me to Q Footloose.  I hate running, but i’m slowly getting to not hate it so much now that my back is much better.

For those that don’t know, in 2015 I fell doing a mud run and royally screwed up my back.  It took years to get where I could even walk without pain, much less run.

So today I pulled a very old Q out of the bag and modified it up a bit.

We started at the beginning, a very good place to start.

Warmed up at First Baptist, and launched into Round 1

Each round includes the same exercises, but we perform them in a ladder style going up and down the rep counts.  The exercises were:

Squats
Lunges
Calf raises
Moroccan Nightclubs
LBC
Reverse crunch
Hello Dolly
Superman
Flutters

Round 1 – 5 reach
Round 2 – 10 each
Round 3 – 15 each
Round 4 – 10 each
Round 5 – 5 each

After each round we ran, yes ran to the next stop.  We stopped at the corner across from Hardee’s, then the Methodist Church, then reversed back to the corner, then back to the start.

We finished off with a round of Mary and called it a day.

6 endured Broga and Bunzercise

Most of us dont stretch enough, especially those of us who do a lot of KB workouts.  That’s me.  I’m usually KB MWF.  Since I was asked to Q Footloose, I thought it was a good opportunity to get myself some stretching.

After waiting for Uhaul to not show, we ran down to Church of God for a warmup and more comfortable surface. Let the PAX in a variety of the usual warmup exercises (SSH, cherry pickers) then started into Broga and stretching for about 25 minutes.  I could sense the PAX were restless so threw in some Burpees after a smart alec remark from Polaroid.  Then we ran the COG zigzag stairs and back to the lot for a variety of ab work.  Followed with another stair run and then Airborne’s Hip Flexor torture.  Ran back to COT.

Cindy shows up at Slow Burn

It was nice to get out into the gloom on Friday for a mildly foggy start at slow burn.  A little pre-work at the lower parking lot set us up for a back to the basics beat down.  Shout out to Twister for inviting Cindy to join us for the morning.  We started out with the disclaimer and intro and moved on to grabbing our coupons and moseying down to our first stop.

A quick call to circle up for our warm-up that encompassed:  Side straddle hops, windmills, Moroccan night clubs, imperial walkers, hill billie walkers, and overhead claps.

Now on to the meat and potatoes of the workout with a little 4 corners and our coupons.  Each corner had 5 exercises starting with 10 reps per exercise at each corner. We did the first 2 exercises and moseyed to the next corner with Cindy.  After the first round of corners we took a lap around the building to let Cindy get some rest.  Round 2 for the remaining 3 exercises at each corner.

Somewhere in between there we had a short plug for shieldlocks and the importance of having accountability with each other.  A very important part of leadership and growth.

If you are curious the four corners and exercises are below:

  1.  Side Straddle hops, Shoulder taps, flutters, triceps and squats
  2. Mountain climbers, merkins, Big Boy sit-ups, chest press, calf raises
  3. Peter parkers, wide arm merkins, curls, monkey humpers
  4. Overhead claps, Carolina dry docks, Freddy Mercuries, overhead press, sumo squats

Heads Or Tails

Friar Tuck put it out on Slack that he needed a substitute Q for Slow Burn today. No one had responded so I figured i would take my 2nd Q in a 2 week span. Im starting my taper for my upcoming 50k next weekend and figured it would be a great way to keep moving. Before we started workout i gave Trucker a coin and told him the fate of our workout rested in his hands. Heads was Dora 1,2,3 and Tails was Baxter stairs. It was tails so we moseyed to Baxter corner beside McAllisters.

Everyone grab a partner. One partner stays on bricks doing exercise while other runs across street up stairs across the front of building back down steps to relieve partner and flip flop.

We ended the workout 10 minutes early for some Broga. There was so much moaning and groaning going on from the Pax that it sounded like we where in the maternity ward at the hospital. Stretching is so much overlooked and we need to do it daily especially with what we put our bodies through. A Broga only AO will be coming in the near future.

Thanks for letting a trail runner Q today Twister. We got 1.71 miles in so it was a good all around workout.

Self Scouting and Kotter Fest @ THE Ballroom

17 (or 18) hearty Fort Pax unpartook of the fartsack to join their brothers at Ballroom. Amazed to see some Kotters (like Free Bird and Deep Dish) as I pulled in. Always exciting to see some of the boys come back to the Gloom just like it’s exciting when new faces show up. Bro hugs ensued.

At the appointed hour, Disclaimer was given and we were off to the other side of PKMS for:

Warm-O-Rama ; Seal Jacks, Merkins/Plank series/Imperial walker, Squats, LBCs. MNCs. Then a nice mosey to the football field for:

The Thang;

7 of diamonds – 7 Plank Jacks in each corner of the field, Bear Crawl to Goal Post then Lunge Walk. Run Length of field 2nd Lap- 7 Plank Jacks & 14 Squats- Got some of the newer Pax to call the cadence, getting ’em ready.

To the track – Partner up, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN -3 BURPEES/PARTNER. RUN BACKWARDS AROUND TRACK. Round 2-5 Bombjacks, but run forwards.

Some Words ON Self Scouting in the New Year- Take to time to look back at your year with an eye towards improving in some area in 2020. Learn form your past mistakes but don’t let them define your trajectory. Your History is not your Destiny.
