24….

It was a gloriously humid morning at BAOPS where I was joined by 4 other pax to tackle the hills of Tega Cay.

WARMUP: 24 SSH. That’s all we needed to get warm with 70ish relative humidity.

THE THANG: Sprinted out of the parking lot for roughly.25 miles.

Performed the following:

12 Merkins IC
12 Squats IC
12 LBCS IC
12 Flutters IC

Sprint another .25

Repeat the exercises reducing the reps by two.

We would run from the traffic circle by Anchorage all the way to the marina and back towards the fire station to complete this sequence. When we got to 4 reps I had us run up “the hill” and then back down to get our set of 2 reps in.

From there we ran back up “the hill “ to the fire station for part 2 of the Weinke.

Here I began part 1 of a Webb. HR Merkins and Double Count shoulder Taps. We got to 6 and 24 and then sprinted a little over .25 miles up towards the TC clubhouse. Here I flapjacked the exercises so we would do 1 shoulder tap for every 4 HR Merkins. We got to 5 and 20 where YHC looked at the time and got us back to the Runde parking lot.

Back at the lot we finished with 6 Taps and 24 HR Merkins.

Part 3 of the Weinke took us to the basketball court where I led the pax in a core focused Tabata. This included BBS, LBCS, Flutters, Hello Dolly’s, Freddy Mercurys, Dying Cockroach, Hammers, FGLbcs, and a plank. The “rest” in between sets was a sprint in the parking lot.

With exactly 35 seconds left YHC realized there was an exercise he didn’t call but everyone expected. So we ended with 10 burpees OYO.

Great Work by everyone as we ended with over 3 miles and lots of Merkins.

I spoke a little today about an accomplishment I had earlier in the week and how great it felt to get it done. But I also mentioned that with accomplishment comes the threat of complacency. While we should be proud and enjoy achieving a goal… that doesn’t mean we don’t stop pushing or finding that next “hill” to climb. A message I thought appropriate for Alcatraz.

Announcements were plenty. We have a lot going on in the Fort and are blessed with the opportunities we have.

Prayers for health and guidance.

Until the next time …. Slapshot 👊

This is going to be a speed based running AO, geared towards improving overall speed. If you’re not fast, then this is for you. If you are fast, this is also for you. COT: Great to have Cousin Eddie out for his 2nd post after FNG status last week. T-claps to Rebel for helping him launch well and to Cousin Eddie for giving Rebel some added purpose!

The workout today was inspired by Sprockets from F3Boone, who led a brick based workout 2 weeks ago. The intent today was to break out of our routine and to create an extra push and some accountability with a partner.

After 10yrs+ posting in The Gloom, I still find it tough to roll out of bed at 0430 most mornings. It’s easier than it once was but it’s NEVER easy! I know that I’ll get better if I post, but I’m also susceptible to the voice in my head saying “you need some sleep” or “you can still exercise on your own at 0600”. Either or both might be true on any given day, and when I’m focused on ME, then the odds of me giving into that voice are high. The key to rising early and posting with you, my brothers, is when I can focus outside of me and instead see YOU. I know how much I’ve needed you over the years, which reminds me that there are many mornings when you need someone else beside you in the Gloom. Making that choice to be that someone is always the extra push I need to get out the door. When I can surrender my self, my ego, my petty simple desires…that’s when I find that something extra — another gear, a purpose, inspiration, the Holy Spirit…whatever you call it for yourself. Surrender…give your morning for your brother…it’s a small sacrifice with a HUGE payoff.

Thanks to Kermit for the honor of leading the pax this morning!

Keep Posting!!!

Shout out to the originator, Jekyll. He started this many years ago. Each week during the month of June, he would q this workout at Laces. Pax would show each week trying to get better each week.

I have a love hate relationship with this workout.
1. First workout I posted to in the Fort (many yrs ago)
2. 2nd workout I brought Shady to. He hated me for a few days after
3. First workout I q’d after my heart attack (2 yrs ago). The one and only time I believe Pax allowed the Q to clipboard Q.

Run, ruck or crawl…we’re taking the hill

WARMUP:
– Quick warmup lap around the parking lot (slick).  YHC received immediate feedback about running at a ruck WO.  Complaints noted.
– COP:
   – LSS (IC)
   – Overhead clap (IC)
   – SSH (IC)
   – Peter Parker (IC)
Runners started rolling into the parking lot as the 4 ruckers departed for “the hill.”  Apparently the hill is useful not only for a ruck WO, but also to train for The Bear.

THE THANG:
There are many hills on the peninsula, but Heart Attack Hill is in a class all its own.  Today’s wienke was simple…out/back to summit the hill.  While in route, we stopped at 5 minute intervals to complete 10 reps of each of the following exercises:
– Merkin (ruck on)
– Overhead press
– Ruck curls
– Ruck rows
– Squats (ruck on)
For the final 100 +/- yards up the hill, PAX were not permitted to wear the rucks on their backs.  We started with an overhead carry and were permitted to front carry (no straps) to rest.  Anyone who’s been on that section of the hill will understand the balance challenge this presents as due to the incline, you’re practically nose to pavement.  Heart rates were elevated.  The highest recorded metric was Divac’s 170 BPM “recovery” reading on the descent.

2.55 miles and 7 rounds of exercises (350 total reps)

The runners remarked at the ruckers impeccable timing as we rolled into COT at 0559:45.  That could be attributed to solid planning, pure luck or more likely a little of each.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
– Q School
– FM Care Center
COT:
– Prayers for marriages

Honored for the opportunity to lead. Thanks Divac!

Running with Burpees

WARMUP: PAX were disclaimed.  That is all.
THE THANG: 3.5 Mile route with 10 burpees every 1/4 mile. X marked the burpee spots. Speedy PAX got 4 miles and change. Us mere mortals did not.
MARY: 4 minutes of stretching with Stang
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Were announced
COT: Prayers and praises were offered

YHC is grateful for a tremendous group of HIM to help in acceleration and staying on the right path. The cooler temps and lower humidity was a blessing to start the week. Thanks to Badlands for the Q spot. It is always a privilege to lead.

Honored,
