Helping your brother bear his burden

WARMUP: SSH, Morrocan Night Club, Down Dog, Up dog, Merkins, Seated Surfers, KB squats

THE THANG: We began with a short mosey to the curb and back. Picked up our bells and lined up on a line in the parking lot. 50 man makers were called. It’s a lot. And it’s reminiscent of many of the burdens we carry. The PAX were challenged to push through and persevere. In turn, any PAX who finished was tasked to go take the bell of his brother and lighten the load. Demonstrating how we share the load with our brothers in need. No one goes alone.

After the glorious man makers, we moseyed to a more lit area for some station work. There were the following stations in a circle:
+Split Leg Squats 10 each leg
+Single Leg Deadlifts 10 each leg
+Calf Raises 20
+John Deere(lat pulls) 10 each arm
+American Hammers 20 IC
++The method of movements were bear crawls and overhead carries.
We completed 2 laps around the circle or so before COT.

COT: Praises for the acceleration of the Fort and the leadership were shared. Thanks for the opportunity to Q and participate in Q school week.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
RSVP for Cyclops bourbon and BBQ fundraiser on 5/21. Blood drive is next week on 5/12. Trash pick up on 5/14. Read your newsletter, lots going on.

COT:
Follow up on message about Concentrica. Had a recent meeting with my supervisor/professional mentor and experienced an honest conversation of two men on opposite sides of the work/life balance. On one side, personal life going well, but work is tough. On the other side, “excelling” at work but have no time left for family. Through the course of the meeting, the mentor/mentee roles reversed. PAX, be intentional on making the main things the main things. Be present and take care of those closest to you – your Concentrica.

Prayers for those suffering through recent loss, prayers for those with illness, praise for birthdays and celebrating the joys of life.

COT:
After several days of intense upper body beatdowns at AKA this week, on this Good Friday YHC concentrated on legs & core along with a message about the GOOD that is all around us and inside of us at all times. It’s easy to get sucked into the negative in our media, our workplace, our schools, our families and friends. Even when I block out media, change jobs and reel in my interactions with others, the negative INSIDE ME can still take charge and become my focus. It takes strong and intentional commitment to focus on the GOOD. The GOOD is just as much around us as the negative, and the GOOD even surpasses everything else! Let’s make it our mission to focus on the abundance of GOOD all around us.

Among the GOOD this morning was FNG/Hot Wheels, EH’d by Tesla and rising out of bed at his home in Mooresville! Not only did HW drive an hour to post at The Swamp, he engaged like a veteran pax taking his turn counting exercises, sharing about his priorities (Faith, Family, Friends) and his how he surrounds himself with people focused on values and character. In talking about the GOOD in his life experience he highly recommended Love’s as the best truck stop food on the interstate!! Sorry Cake Boss, no Bucee’s mention.

Airwolf’s cadence count melody suggest some real talent hiding in those vocal chords. Hey, Band Camp, we might have a Barbershop quartet or Acapella group Q here!?!?!

Slapshot continues to Make The Swamp Great Again! Thanks for your leadership and the invite to lead in the Gloom!

Last, among the NOT SO GOOD things today was YHC’s poor safety skills. I made the decision to wear the florescent vest even though the parking lots are lit to ensure we could be seen. But that’s not even half the battle — strong safety also requires SEEING and good judgment. Near Death Island got it’s name because of my call to mosey to the traffic island across from Fuji then my lead of the pax into the street without looking left. Yes, I missed an incoming car with high speed destined to take out the back of the pack. Fortunately, they looked and had the presence of mind to stop. The driver stopped too and waved them across. A teaching moment for sure. Stay safe men!

COT

Naked Man Moleskin

Strong push from an intimate crowd today with the sprint starting gun passing to each pax.

Funhouse didn’t let a gimpy hammy keep him from running the whole workout at modify pace and no recovery.  Then he carried the pax through the shoulder tap escalation with an aggressive cadence count.  And he capped the workout with a reminder that he wouldn’t be pushing the way he did without the presence of brothers in the Gloom to accompany him.  #King

The workout structure and message today revolved around the importance of Recovery, a key  element to enabling each of us to push ourselves, to grow, to achieve Acceleration.  In all areas of life — physical, emotional and spiritual — fitting recovery into the flow of life is an essential discipline.  It’s true for HIMs and true for Ms (thanks to Cohiba for the M reminder!).  Put Recovery on your to-do list.

Always an honor to lead.  Thanks to Yard Sale for the Q stick.

Hair Club for HIMs & others Conquer the Rooster

10+ pax of The Fort posted in The Gloom of Rock Hill amid heavy rain, high winds & falling temps to chase the rooster around the loop for 26+ miles.  Pax from Gashouse & Lake Wylie plus some FiA teams also joined the HIMs of The Rock for the CSAUP adventure, raising funds for Bethel Men’s Shelter in the process.

The Thang

Team relay consisting of 1 mile loops

Naked Man Moleskin

Congrats to HCHIMs on a great morning!  New milestones reached included:

  • First relay for JWOW and 38 Special
  • Return to The Gloom for Old Bay
  • Renewed lessons for NASA in tent set up in the midst of uncooperative weather
  • New glamour shots for YHC & JWOW in mullet wigs

Shout out to IJ, Longshanks, Cornerstone, Straight Up and Vuvuzela on their successful finishes with RH teams.

T-claps to Blueprint and Ponytail in Rock Hill for putting on a great event and to Catfish and Reborn for keeping The Rock solid!

These CSAUP events are as much about the fellowship with pax of The Fort and other regions as they are about pushing through the pain of the fitness elements (and the weather!).  A COT that includes a cold beer is a pretty good thing!

Six days until the Yeti!  Make it great!
