Dragon’s Den

This week is a special week as Thursday makes four years since I joined F3 up in Area 51 (south Charlotte) so I was happy to chip in and q again at Tomahawk which is at Doby’s Bridge Elementary, with a school mascot of a dragon.  Small world as my elementary school also had a dragon for a mascot.  Anyway, enough of this on to what we did.

After a pretty standard COP we got the bells a swinging.

25 swings
25 goblet squats
20 merkins
20 tricep extensions
25 LBC’s
30 curls
20 skull crushers
20 calf raises
20 American hammers

After every third exercise, run/walk a lap.  We got through two rounds and I added some core work in there as well just for fun.

I got at least one “I hate you!” from Polaroid or someone sounding like him so I feel like I did my job.

Welcome to Data Breach!  Looks like you guys are busy EHing your friends and neighbors.  Keep it up.  Great work out there DB!

Thanks for the HIMs you guys are and how you encourage me every day.

Peace out.  DT

You’re making the easy exercises suck

5 PAX showed up on a picture perfect morning. We grabbed our bells and strolled up to the top of the pick up lane.

Circled up and immediately dropped to a plank. Peter Parker

Honeymooner/Downward Dog

Parker Peter

Imperial walkers

Sugarbug told me these next exercises I was ruining because they were the easy ones.

Held Al Gore and did morracan nightclubs and overhead claps

The Main Event:

20 KB Swings and 10 Merkins, then run a lap

20 Swings and 9 Merkins., lap. You can probably sense a pattern here. I quickly shortened the lap since the full drop off lane was a tad ambitious.

After 200 Swings and 55 Merkins, I wanted to try something that would make anyone watching the security footage question our sanity. We bunny hopped through the parking space posts like a slalom course.

Next, we lunge walked along the pillars of the drop off lane and did 20 squats at the halfway point. Continued our lunges and squats for a total of 3X. Then we bearcrawled the last half of the pillars stopping at each one for 3 CDD.

Circled up for a PAX called exercise for 5 minutes.

COT

I want to thank Polaroid for the opportunity to lead these HIM on a beat down. I feel somewhat guilty that I was able to take a nap after while the others had to go to work. One verse that has been in my head all morning is from Matthew 6:34 “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of it’s own.”

Working on the Bum-Bum

This was my first kettlebell Q so truth be told I googled “kettlebell circuit workout” and the bulk of the decent sites were ladies teaching how to firm up you “bum-bum’s”… Seemed like we all could use a little help in that department so I plagiarized heavily from these sites…

The disclaimer was disclaimed and we began with a short mosey around the lot with some butt kickers, high knees, side shuffles, and toy soldiers.

We circled up for warm up consisting of:

-25 Side Straddle Hops

-25 Moroccan Night Clubs

-12 Windmill

-12 Imperial Walker

-12 Hillbilly Walker

-12 Goofball (for Geronimo)

We mosey over to the pick-up line curb for the beginning of toning our “Bum-Bum’s”

We completed 2 circuits each consisting of 15 reps of 15 exercises with a lap around the parking lot between every 5 exercises.

-15 Kettlebell Swing

-15 Sumo Squat

-15 Lunge Pass Though (each side)

-15 Calf Raises (I actually raised this to 20 on accident but Dark Helmet kindly reminded me that I had committed to 15 earlier in the description)

-15 Split Squat (squat in a lunge position) – each side

LAP

-15 Bent Row (each side)

-15 Shoulder Press (each side)

-15 Curl (each side)

-15 Halo (each direction)

-Drive the Bus for 3 10 counts (bell extended 10 straight, 10 turned to the right, 10 turned to the left)

LAP

-15 LBC’s

-15 Flutter

-15 Hello Dolly

-15 Freddy Murcury

-15 Box Cutter

LAP

after about 2 cycles we mosey to COT for announcements and prayers

Tomahawk-0 to 60 in 45 mins

12 PAX and YHC came in da Gloom of Doby’s Bridge Elementary to take our daily Red Pill. As I thought about what type of beat down I’d apply I realized simple is sometimes enough. We over complicate many things and our lives and we can’t do any one thing well. So I kept it simple and effective!

The Thang:

Warm Up around the parking lot with mini COP

Grab the bells and get after it. 20 exercises for 60 secs or 1 min each and after 4 we run a lap.  Fun times had by all!!

Flutter kick
Russian twist
V up
Hello dolly
Leg raises
Lunge
Squat
Right leg
Squat figure 8
Left leg
KB Swing
Shoulder press
Upright row
Bent row
Lat raises
R/L Curl
Concentration curl
Tri extension
Skull crushers
Calf Raises
YHC spoke about restoring old cars and how people can see the beauty in things that some of us don’t. I mentioned the research center in NC where body parts are being grown with people’s actual cells, so they can be interchanged if something goes bad….like car parts.
As much as we can exercise and change parts there is only one way to be restored…..through the Grace of Sky Q. He takes our old away and makes us New. He sees beauty in us that we don’t even see in ourselves. Find time to realize how Sky Q plans to make you restored and living a brand new life today!!
2/17-Breakfast at Philly UMC
2/20-1stF and 3rdF convergence at Forest Hill Parking lot
2/24-YETI…..just do it!
Thanks for Lead Polaroid!

First taste of The Tomahawk

Got my first taste of the many options that Tomahawk has to offer. Perhaps agreeing to Q the day after the Super Bowl wasn’t the smartest thing YHC has ever done, but no one wants to disappoint the Pax. After taking a recon drive past the school on Saturday, a plan was formed. Being nervous as to how long it would take to get to this AO that is nowhere near my home base, I, of course, arrived way early. But, as i was searching for the perfect spot for my cones, the lights miraculously came on at 5 sharp. That lifted my spirits tremendously.

Pax rolled in starting with He who loves the Thrill of the Drops. Tried to introduce myself to the arriving pax to introduce myself to those I had not met and to set a tone that we were in this together.

Disclaimer offered at 5:15 sharp and off we went. Mosey around the drop off circle with some high knees, buttkickers and karaoke. Circle up.

COP:

  • SSH * 20
  • Windmill * 15
  • Merkins * 10
  • Squats * 15
  • Wide Arm Merkins * 10
  • MOROCCAN NIGHTCLUBS * 20

MOSEY behind the School to an array of cones

THE THANG: LADDER

  • 10 KB SWINGS-RUN TO 3 RD LIGHTPOST AND BACK
  • 10 KB SWINGS, 15 SKULL CRUSHERS-RUN
  • 10 KB SWINGS, 15 SKULL CRUSHERS, 20 SQUATS-RUN
  • 10 KB SWINGS, 15 SKULL CRUSHERS, 20 SQUATSS, 30 Upright ROWS-RUN
  • RINSE AND REPEAT (SORT OF)
  • 10 KB SWINGS-RUN TO 3 RD LIGHTPOST AND BACK
  • 10 KB SWINGS, 20 FIGURE 8S-RUN
  • 10 KB SWINGS, 20 FIGURE 8’S-RUN, 20 BENT OVER ROWS-RUN

THOUGHT ON ANXIETY/WORRY: EACH OF US SPENDS SO MUCH TIME&ENERGY WORRYING ABOUT MATTERS OUT OF OUR CONTROL. DO YOU SEE JESUS WALKING WITH YOU WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE WORRIES? (SHARED A PASSAGE FROM THE BOOK “THE SHACK”)

To the Wall- Peoples Chair with KB held out front while each Pax jumps out of line and does 5 Bombjacks. Repeato, but this time with 5 merkins

MOSEY TO COT

Prayers for Polaroids’s daughter having trouble sleeping, prayers for my family after my brother’s recent death, other unspoken prayers.

Really enjoyed my morning with the Pax of the southern reaches of The Fort. I’ll be back sometime, but not so early next time. Thanks Polaroid for the opportunity to serve this growing region.

Short Sale Out.

20-18s Word of the Year at The Tomahawk

Backblast is late, but the words needed to be shared. The PAX brought forth their words for 2018 throughout the workout and shared why they picked it, and we are all there for encouragement. Continue to ask your brothers what their word is and how they are progressing. Lend an ear, hand, and offer encouragement as we will all have set backs.

We did a mosey around the school for a warmup with a COP halfway through. Once back to the parking lot we got to work with 20 reps on the right side pillars focusing on upper body and 18 on the left pillars focusing on the lower. We started on the outside and worked our way towards the center. At the center few we closed out with abs.

Thanks for the opportunity to Q Polaroid.

3 Celebrated the New Year With The Tomahawk

Yes, it is indeed January 16th, and yes this workout took place on January 1. LIFE.  Enough said.

I was a good boy on New Year’s Eve and limited myself to a couple drinks and stopped drinking by 9pm.  My friends gave me a hard time, but I already had my mind made up.  2018 will be the year I get BETTER; the year I do BETTER; the year I live BETTER.

Pinup and I weren’t sure if anybody would actually show up on New Year’s Day, so we were excited to see Skate or Die pull up.

(I think this is accurate, maybe missed something thoug
The Warmup
40 SSH right at the start to get the blood flowing
A short mosey to the wall where we took turns squatting while the next guy did High Knees for 60 seconds.
Funny how those 2 exercises can get you warm like no other.

The Thang
We moseyed to the back of the school for a few rounds of 2 minute AMRAP
Round 1 – Kettlebell Swings
Jog to the 1st light pole
Repeat Kettlebell Swings
Jog to the 2nd light pole

Round 2 – Curls
jog to the 1st light pole
Repeat Curls with the other arm

Round 3 – Tricep Extensions
Jog to the 1st light pole
Repeat Tricep Extensions with other arm
Jog to the 2nd light pole

Round 4 – Halos
Jog to the 1st light pole

Round 5 – Around the World
Jog to the 2nd light pole

Round 6 – American Hammers
Job to the 1st light pole
Repeat American Hammers, jog to the 2nd light pole

Mosey back to COT but we had a few minutes so we did some AB LAB

At COT I shared my Word of the Year: BETTER
2018 is the year I make everything I do and everything I am, better.  A better Christian by making more time for our Sky Q.  A better Husband by helping my wife more with our everyday duties.  A better Father by making sure my kids know I’m here and that I will give them the attention they desire.  A better PAX by being a better HIM…showing up to more workouts and Serve Saturdays. That leads to better Health and Emotional Wellbeing.  Skate or Die shared some ways for me to make sure these things happen.

We wrapped up with Prayers and Praises.  Happy New Year F3!

Milkshakes at Tomahawk

I love a good Twitter Storm… a little chatter and we had a pretty strong showing for a Monday. Milder weather probably didn’t hurt anything either… Let’s get to it:

Warm up lap around the outer loop of the parking lot

Circle up in middle of lot:
10 x windmill
10 x merkins
10 x squats
15 x SSH
10 x Moroccan Nightclubs

Grab your bell and go around school to small back parking lot.

AMRAP is the name of the game today… As Many Reps As POSSIBLE… You define possible for yourself, but I 100% promise you are capable of more than your mind thinks you are.

Very simple… 40lb. Sandbag is hoisted on to a Pax shoulders, and he runs about 150 yards down and back. This man is the timer. Do the exercise on the cone until the sandbag runner gets back, then rotate to the next cone.

Cones:
Curls
Goblet Squats
KB Front Hold
Flutters with press
Clean and press (L then R)
KB Swings
Around the World (or Slingshot)
REPEAT

NMM:
If you want to know what’s in a man’s head, watch his actions for a bit… We will eventually always betray what is inside us. I had hard work on the mind over the last few days, so I attempted to bring it to the Pax. After a couple rounds, though, I think I had quitting on my mind… I gave some inspiring blah, blah, blah at the start about working hard and how we were going to do as many reps as POSSIBLE, and how we should push and so on and so on… I ran fast when it was my turn… I lifted the heavy things… but I didn’t do it with the intensity and purpose that I knew I should/could have… I keep saying, “The hard work of this world will not be done by weak men.” I know it’s true, but I think I’m not even close to strong enough yet. Fortunately, I don’t have to be yet.

Helmet, out.

JOE DAVIS + SPEED FOR NEED = IMPACT

In just under a month, we will have an opportunity to run one of the best races of the year which has become our Signature Fort Race, The Joe Davis Run for Recovery.

This year is going to be particularly special in that we will also be adding the opportunity to push race chariots for SPEED FOR NEED.

Here’s how you get involved, if you know of someone who has a child with a disability, someone who has a child whose home has been affected by addiction, or a child in some other kind of need, then DM Dark Helmet on Twitter and let him know. If you would like to help push, let him know.

We have a chance to have as many as 6 chairs there (several are already spoken for, but some are empty). That’s the most of any race yet…

So man up! Register, find a “Track Commander” to push, and let’s get after it!
