Well Played Sir! Snake Pit Gets Thrilled

So two days in a row the weather man said DON’T GO TO F3!!!  OK, he didn’t say that, but two days in a row the weather app said it was going to rain and two days in a row it didn’t.  Thankfully I posted both days.

One of those days was today and it was my Q at Snake Pit.

I borrowed a Q of mine and we talked a bit about mental health and also my mom who passed away due to prolonged medications taken because of her mental health.  So the numbers are based off facts about my mom and mental health.  And the thang went like this:

Some of my mom’s favorite singers were Elvis and Ricky Nelson:

Elvis – Born 1935 – Died Age 42 – 33 #1 singles
Ricky Nelson – Born 1940 – Died Age 45 – 14 Top 10’s

35 kettlebell swings
42 goblet squats
33 curls
40 skull crushers
45 flutters
14 Turkish getups (fan favorite)

Round 2

Mom – Born 1945 – Died 2014 – Married 49 years – 69 years old at time of passing

45 American hammers
14 cleans
49 merkins
69 flutters

Round 3

20 veterans commit suicide daily
77% of deaths by suicide are male
10% of men experience depression and anxiety (reported)
33% of those men see help

20 lawn mowers
77 rosa litas
10 burpees
36 LBCs

We got through the three rounds then started back and got about half way through again.

Thanks for coming out despite the threat of rain and for following along.  I’m guessing that Dr. Band Camp didn’t get his doctorate in math.  Just a guess.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead 3D and love to you all.

The Thrill is gone!

Rebel Base Armory – May the Fourth Be With You – Final Monday Hive…

It was a pretty amazing month of April, but I was so ready to have JWOW back running The Armory.  Most favored spot at the corner was reserved for the proper shovel flag, but I was proud to fly The Hive’s flag on Mondays.

The Hive – May the Fourth

The Weinke is attached.  It was brutal.  Much harder than I thought it would be…

Thank you JWOW for allowing The Hive to occupy your spot for the month of April our year of COVID 2020…

Virtual Mental Battle Armory

Be careful when you reach your direct messages.  You never know what they will lead to.  Just kidding.

JWow reached out and I happily signed up to Q today for my first virtual/Zoom Q at Armory.  We talked a bit about my mom, some her favorites, her mental illness and then on to more general topics of mental health.

As I mentioned today, get help if you need help.  I am here for you if you need help.  You can reach professionals at 1-800-273-8255.

On with the show!

For our first two rounds of exercises, the number is pulled from something regarding my mom:

Elvis and Ricky Nelson were two favorites of my mom and these are some stats about them…

Elvis – Born 1935 – Passed away age 42
Elvis – 33 #1 singles
Ricky Nelson – Born 1940 – Passed away age 45
Ricky Nelson – 14 Top 10 singles

35 Kettle bell swings or Calf Raises
42 Goblet squats or regular squats
33 Curls or Big boy situps
40 Skull crushers or Moroccan night clubs
45 Flutters
14 Turkish getups

Mom was born 1945 – Passed away 2014
Mom and Dad were married 49 years
Mom was 69 years old and passed due to kidney failure caused by long exposure to mental health medications

45 American hammers
14 Cleans or Flying squirrels
49 Merkins
69 Flutters

Next we talked about the following:

20 veterans commit suicide every day.
77% of suicides are male.
10% of men experience daily depression or anxiety (reported)
36% of psychological referrals are for me.

20 Lawn mowers
77 Rosa Lita’s
10 Burpees
36 LBCs

The mission of F3 is to plant, grow and serve small workout groups for the invigoration of male community leadership.

Thanks JWow for the chance to lead.  I can’t wait until we are all back in the literal and not virtual Gloom!  Make yourself and the world a better place today.

The Thrill is gone!

Boss Hogg Issued a Challenge at the Ballroom and the PAX did not Disappoint!!!

Boss Hogg threw out a challenge to see how many PAX would show up at the Ballroom.  As usual, the PAX did not disappoint.  39 was the count.

Boss Hogg arrived in his all white Q outfit.  Disclaimer was given.  A quick message was given about the power of being an influencer.  PAX were reminded to always pick up the 6 and to encourage the guys around them.

The Thang:

Mosey to the center of the football field for a quick warmup:

  • 15 SSHs
  • 10 Windmills
  • 15 Imperial Walkers
  • 15 Cherry Pickers
  • 15 Hillbilly Walkers
  • 15 Gas Pumpers (THE Twisters favorite exercise)

Next was a Guillermo 1-2-3 (Dora’s little brother).  Similar to a Dora but PAX break up into two groups instead of pairing off in partners.  All exercises are done in cadence with a focus on form, not speed.

Exercises were:

  • 100 Overhead Claps
  • 200 LBCs
  • 300 Low Slow Squats

The other group started at the goal line, bear crawled to the 20, ran to the 50, did 1 burpee, and returned to the goal line.  Teams switched back and forth until all exercises were complete.

With the remaining time, the PAX moved to the track for some large dice fun.  One die contained the name of an exercise on each side.  The other 4 were used to determine the count.  Dice were rolled, exercises were done, and the PAX moved 1/4 of the way around the track.  This was repeated until the group had moved all the way around the track.

Time was up and the group headed back to COT.  Announcements were made.  Prayer requests focused on physical healing and marriages.  Due to the overwhelming support from the PAX in attendance, $1,000 was donated to Classroom Ready.

A great reminder to all PAX, don’t just be influenced but go out and be influencers!

“Backblasting” sans Trucker with a few Zimamiles

10 gathered on a chilly morning.  YHC and JWOW were the first to arrive.  After JWOW got his passport stamped and was granted entry into Tega Cay, a pre-emptive stroll took place around the grounds before PAX began to trickle in.  At 1 minute before launch, a Zima sighting took place.  Once it was confirmed that no FNGs were present (there weren’t).  Disclaimers were given and off we moseyed around the ballfield to circle up.

COP – SSH x 10, Windmills x 10, Cherry Pickers x 10, Merkins x 10, Mountain Climbers x 10, Down Dog, Up Dog and a quick recovery followed by a short mosey to the First base line.

JWOW decided it would be a good idea to partner for a DORA 1-2-3 where partner #1 runs up a hill (aka Mt. Mulch) while partner #2 exercises.  The 100 was burpees (this was met with little to no approval), 200 squats (YHC’s form was subtly corrected by Geronimo – thank you, guardrail) and 300 flutters.  The climb was steep and the mulch made for fun later.

Following the DORA, PAX went to the base of Mt. Mulch where JWOW called for partner pushes – one pushing the other up the hill while the other leaned downhill against the other.  YHC was displeased when Gears decided to be especially difficult on this, but we persisted and reached the top along with all other PAX.  A lunge walk back down (carefully) Mt. Mulch and we switched positions.  After a successful round 2 of partner pushes and lunge walks, JWOW decided to call time and hand off to YHC for the second half.

We moseyed on the running path around Runde Park stopping at 4 spots along the way.

Stop #1 – Circle up for 5 burpees (because we had not done enough already), followed by a people’s chair with arms out.  While holding the people’s chair, we did 10 double count Moroccan night clubs and 10 shoulder taps in cadence. Mosey to:

Stop #2 – 4 burpees OYO

Stop #3 – 3 burpees OYO

Stops #4 & #5 – 2 burpees OYO and 1 burpee OYO

A quick 10 count was called and a mosey back to the ballfield to go “around the horn” for the main event of the second half.

YHC called for a change in partners so PAX switched up and we began a 4 corner beatdown that earned many not so subtle comments from PAX.

At each cone, PAX were to partner up and do the following:

Round 1 – 10 burpees, 20 hand slap merkins, 30 sumo squats (hands touch the ground) – rinse and repeat at cones 2, 3 & 4 for a sum total for 40 burpees, 80 hand slap merkins and 120 sumo squats.  PAX were pleased…..sort of.

Round 2 – 10 hand release hand slap merkins, 20 jumping lunges, 30 big boy sit ups – rinse and repeat at each of the 4 cones for a sum total of 40 hand release hand slap merkins, 80 jumping lunges and 120 big boy sit ups.

YHC and Cornhole strategically moved to a different cone from other PAX as “backblasting” had commenced prior to the workout ending.  Before round 2 was completed,  Zima eloquently observed that the exercises addressed opportunities for improvement: #truestory

Unfortunately, round 3 would have to be saved for another time as PAX completed round 2 at 0726.  We moseyed to the parking lot for 5 more burpess OYO and 2 minutes of Abs:

15 boxcutters in cadence

Protractor at different degrees (0 degrees was the crowd favorite)

In honor of Zima, a 30 second body destroyer was called.  0730 and COT was upon us.

Announcements – Read your newsletter – lots happening including the Yeti next weekend.

Prayers were offered for Fishstick’s Dad battling cancer, JWOW’s friend Anthony battling addictions and keeping his jesters at bay, for safe travels for Bonsai and his M this week and for families and our patience.

NMM – YHC (Q #2) was to lead a Q Source discussion following the workout and it reinforced the very thing that we must keep top of mind as to why we post.  We are, as PAX, one another’s guardrails.  We keep one another on the right path toward living 3rd and being better for those around us.  Regardless of where you are in your journey – 1st, 2nd or 3rd F’s.  Get out, post often, and plug into this great group of #HIMs.  Acceleration can not be achieved in isolation.  We go through nothing alone when we choose.

Thanks to JWOW for splitting this morning’s Q and to Smuggler for the opportunity.  YHC’s first post ever was at Alcatraz.  It was great to get back out with a fantastic group of #HIMs.

Honored,

Cyclops & JWOW

Board of pain, faraway fences and bat flipper bear crawls

Nearly 3 miles were achieved by some, significantly less by others (Slash & UHaul always chose Bear Crawls…).  Some very solid mumblechatter…  A little flatulence…  Short chat on Lent and the presence of Catholics in Fort Mill…  Probable hair styles for the Son of God…  All in all it was a pretty eventful morning…
