I read CSPAN backblast on Q school 201. Now I never have a weinke but always have a plan(actually multiple plans). I determine the Thang based on the Pax. The Pax deserve your best and a plan while being excited. I am not always excited, but I am working on it. This also goes with living life in general. Have a plan and work on it excited.

We ended as always in COT. I am thankful for the reminder from Jekyll on the Jester. I needed that at that time.

Prayers and praises .

Taking it to the streets

  • QIC: Sir Topham Hatt

7 Pax fought off the fartsack and took it to the streets at Laces Out this week.  YHC had a track workout planned but was going to take it easy since my legs were still sluggish from some past races.  After a short discussion with the pax, it seemed as if everyone just wanted a good ol easy pace run.  So the decision was made to hit the streets for an hour.

The route took off through the back of the high school and worked our way over to NGR then into Baxter.  After winding our way through the maze known as Baxter (Thanks Menthol for helping us through there!) we popped out on 160 and headed back.

Here is the link to the Strava Flyby – What a cool feature!

http://labs.strava.com/flyby/viewer/#736025150?c=dnnrjng3&z=E&t=1NzXCT&a=PtreKyrb3iug_94r

I really like this route as it has a good variation of hills and some flat thrown in.  It also has a couple of different distance options for everyone.  Strong work today by all the pax with some great fellowship throughout.

Announcements: Read the newsletter,

Prayers: Safety for all the people in the path of Hurricane Matthew, Safety for the runners at Ragnar, Menthol’s grandmother, and our great Nation.

Until next time!

Alcatraz was the very first workout to ‘split’ from the Fort when the Saturday workout at WEP  got too large.  Back in 2013, Funhouse and I were charged with selecting a site in Tega Cay and kicking off a new Saturday workout.  Nineteen showed up that first Saturday, and Funhouse and I led the group through the same workout that we did today.  During the past three years, we’ve had some terrific workouts with killer hills, fence hopping, forays into the surrounding neighborhoods, meetings with Sally, adventures on the tennis court and  golf course, encounters with local deer, and plunges into Lake Wylie,   Our core group of regular Pax has changed over the years, but we always have great fellowship and strong Q’s who challenge and sharpen those who show up on Saturday mornings.

The park was soaking wet at the start, and it pretty much rained the whole time we were out there. But, Funhouse and I stuck to the plan and stayed on the grass, just like we did in 2013. We were drenched within minutes, but nobody cared.  It was another fine morning at Runde with the usual jokes, chatter, and hard work..  We capped off the workout with a little coffeteria under the cover of the dugout.

I’ve been an active F3 member since 2012.  F3 has been a great experience for me, and it’s been incredible watching it grow and flourish in our region.  The strength of F3 lies in the members that make it up.  The guys I’ve met through F3 are guys I want to be around – they are men of strong character who strive to be better and care about each other and their community.  When you are around people like that, you can’t help but become better yourself.  That is what F3 has done for me.  It’s been my privilege to lead Alcatraz the past three years and I look forward to many more years as we grow and improve together.

Prayers, Praises, Announcements

Prayers for those affected by hurricane Matthew (McGruffe already there),  safe travels for Funhouse’s wife traveling to Columbia, and one dealing with a difficult situation with his teenage son.

Operation Sweet Tooth Update October 9th 2016

  • QIC: Olive
  • When: 10/09/2016
  • Pax: The PAX of F3 Nation and FiA Nation
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

Update on Operation Sweet Tooth

I know there have been a bunch of  Pax asking for instructions on the logistics of #OST.  Here is the update with future ones to follow.

To begin with, Operation Sweet Tooth is officially a non-profit 501C3 corporation.

2nd and more importantly, we are gearing up for the OST Toy drive to be administered through our respective holiday parties.  We have ordered 2000 prayer cards to be given with the toys and gifts, at your respective AO’s.  What we ask is that toys and gifts are to be delivered at least 1 week later allowing me to mail or overnight the appropriate number of prayer cards to correspond with the amount of gifts. If you want to take a look at what the cards look like, follow OpSweetTooth on Twitter.  The toys and gifts are important.  The message however, is imperative!

3rd I know many of our Pax have asked me what the parameters are with the gifts, toys etc.  I encourage each AO to find an institution that can benefit from our F3 (and beyond) generosity.  Locally here in Charlotte/Huntersville, my personal plans are to contribute to Levine’s Children Hospital and Children’s Hope Alliance, the parent company of Barium Springs Orphanage in Troutman.  I know some Pax asked about Jeff Gordon’s Children Hospital.  Although I prefer not to donate their due to their negligence and lack of care and sympathy during and after the passing of my daughter, I understand the children who are sick did not play a hand in Christina’s order and should not be punished because of it.  I leave that entirely up to you but you will have our blessing and support regardless.

4th Many of you ask what is actually acceptable.  For children’s hospitals, they are specifically clear on what will be accepted due to hygiene etc.  For an example, please click the link below.

http://www.carolinashealthcare.org/documents/lch/donation-wish-list.pdf

For a children’s home or orphanage such as Barium Springs, here is a list that this particular institution may need.  Please click link below:

https://www.childrenshopealliance.org/needs-list/

I ask each AO to take the responsibility to find an institution that you want to help to change lives and have a positive impact on the lives of children in distress and need.

Lastly, I ask that each OST Q please contact me personally so that I can answer any questions but also to have the necessary contact information to send the prayer cards and whatever other support I can provide.  Other than twitter at F3_Olive, OpSweetTooth, we can be reached at OperationSweetTooth@yahoo.com or OperationSweetTooth@gmail.com.  The website is a work in progress as well as Instagram and Facebook.  All will be operational once the official website is.

I want to close with saying that this was just a thought…to have our local Isotope brothers support children as a way to honor my daughter, my everything, my Sweet Tooth and 2.0.  Never did I think this would have the sustainability and traction that OST has garnered.  Selfless acts of support from brothers local and afar have given me hope that we can make a difference, even if that difference does not bring my baby back.  What will start out as a toy drive this upcoming December, will morph itself to bigger and better things to come in 2017.  Events we are looking at are potentially a 5/8K race, golf tournament (thanks for trying Big Papi), continued toy drives and community outreach days.

The overwhelming support of F3 has been tremendous and I can honestly say, without you all, and FiA, my wife and I would not have the strength to want to pull this off, let alone get out of the fart sack.  We still struggle to this day.  But near and far, many of you have reached out and have had a positive impact on us…and we can only hope to repay the favor to hundreds, if not thousands of children who are not nearly as blessed as us…not to mention their parents , who I am sure have their own struggles.

Your generosity, your support and commitment, is not only helping us heal, but potentially helping hundreds of children and their parents do so as well!

Further announcements will be made available.  As for now…#SERVE

Humbly Yours,

-Olive, Jager and Happy Meal

FLOOD RELIEF EFFORTS: Calling all Fort and Rock Pax

10/28/16
UPDATE:
I just got our work assignments.  We received 5 work orders for tree removal and 1 for house muckout (remove drywall, carpet, etc).  We will need to bring tools (chainsaws, axes, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, leaf blower, etc) like we did last week and additional tools (flat nosed shovels, hammers, sheetrock knives, wheelbarrows, etc) and safety equipment (gloves, safety glasses, dust masks, etc) this week.

The current plan is that we will meet at the Lowes by Baxter at 5:00 and leave for Conway, SC.  We would complete work at about 2:00 or 3:00 so that we can return for trick-or-treating with our families.  We will need to bring lunches and water.

Please DM @darkhelmetf3 or email me: frankschwartz@me.com with your HCs.

==============================================================================

10/21/16
UPDATE:
Work crews leaving out tomorrow. We will need help next week as well, so please check your calendars and let me know if you can make it. Here’s the details for tomorrow’s work.

Everyone,
We have been assigned 6 work orders to remove fallen trees (some greater than 18″ diameter) in the Bishopsville area.  We will be meeting tomorrow morning at the Lowe’s in Baxter at 6:00 am and will be leaving at 6:15. This will put us in Bishopsville at about 8:00.

We will be splitting into 2 groups and each group will have a team leader and will work on 3 work orders.  We will carpool and drive down as groups since the groups will be working at different addresses.

The teams are a mix of F3 Pax and Men (and one M) from my church. Again, there will be opportunity to go again next weekend, so LET ME KNOW.

We need to bring the following tools and we will split them up between the 2 groups:

Chainsaws (I think 5 were volunteered and so please bring them along with gas, oil, sharpening tools or whatever else would be needed)
Crowbars
Rakes
Axes
Wheelbarrows

Bring what you need to work safely.
In order to ensure we are as safe as possible while working on these projects, remember not to work after dark when good visibility is no longer possible, and please be sure to bring:

  • Safety glasses / goggles
  • Work boots or sturdy closed toe shoes
  • Work gloves
  • Pants (not shorts)

We need to bring our own lunch and water.  The team leaders will bring a cooler for water and drinks to be put in.

We will work until 5:30 or 6:00 and so if we finish our work orders early then we will see if there are other neighbors in the area that would like some help.  We can then find a place to eat in Bishopsville or head home.

==============================================================================

10/19/16
UPDATE:
Flood waters are finally starting to recede on the coast in some areas to a point where we can get in to help. I don’t have all the details yet. They should be forthcoming soon, but here is what I know and what I need at this point.
WHAT I KNOW AT THIS POINT:
Early Saturday morning we are looking for strong backs and weak minds to travel to Myrtle Beach and Florence, SC to start the debris clearing. This means that we will need willing men, chainsaws, hand saws, loppers, shovels, possibly wheelbarrows, etc. We will be heading back that evening on this go around. (We will likely be doing an overnight trip next week once the mucking out of houses and such begins. Flood waters are not allowing for this in most areas at this time, is what I understand.) We will also be taking donations down with us. We will take the water that has been collected to now, and any other that we may be able to collect between now and then…
WHAT I NEED AT THIS POINT:
Your HCs ASAP! Hit me on twitter: @darkhelmetf3 (I’ll follow you back so we can share contact info if needed) and tell me if you can make it. It will be a very early start and a fairly late return that day.

Men, I know that there are TONS of ways to help right now, and TONS of places we could do it. If this doesn’t fit you, that’s ok, just help somewhere. However, this is what we are being asked to do for right now. It may seem like a small thing, but it will make a big difference.

==============================================================================

10/11/16
UPDATE:
Pax, I thought it would be good to give an update on where things stand with the relief efforts. There is much more damage and many more problems than we anticipated in SC, GA, and NC than we (in the Fort) have resources to take care of. It’s important to remember that we will hear of needs all over. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to do it all. I often get frustrated and sad that we can’t just fix it, but so be it.

That said, at this time, we are in a holding pattern. The storm surge is continuing to rise in many of those areas, and over the next 48 hours or so there will be continued flooding and other problems that will continue to arise. It will likely be this weekend and into next week before we can safely enter any of those areas. So, as hard as it is, hang tight. Please keep letting me know about the needs that you hear of and about your individual availability to travel (possibly overnight) to affected areas over this weekend and into (and through) next week. Also, keep your eyes on the Twitter machine and FB, etc. for further updates.

Thank you, men, for all you do.
Helmet, out.

==============================================================================
10/8/16
Almost one year to the day from our relief efforts in Columbia, SC, and here we go again. Our brothers (F3), but maybe even more importantly, the communities where our brothers and sisters (God’s children) live are feeling the force and will soon be digging out from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew.

I am in contact with some of our coastal Pax and with members and leaders of my Church to try and get updates on needs. I imagine that there will be needs for donations, much like we had for Columbia (water, food, fuel, etc.), and also we want to organize work crews to go down as needed. At this point (10/8/16, 1700hrs), I know of many downed trees, lots of flooding, etc., but we do not know yet what can be done or when. Many communities (whole counties actually) have not started letting residents back in yet.

Here is what I need from you. I need to know if you can plan to go down with crews sometime in the coming days and weeks to administer relief. This will likely consist of delivering supplies, clearing roads, removing debris, and gutting homes and businesses that were flooded. We will need tools, strong backs, and donations. As soon as I know more, I will amend this post.

Again, at this point, if you can comment on this post, or DM me on Twitter, as to whether you can go and what days, that will help to start. Also, if you know of needs or people that are in those areas organizing efforts there, that would be great to know also.

Aye!

23 for Clydesdales. A warm 5:15 am welcome to Clydesdale first-timer and 1 day #HIM Dano. After the disclaimer, the PAX were encouraged to think about a time when Mercy was extended. Mercy – not getting what we do deserve. Three herds left from Starbucks for an early morning run, finally cooler weather with low humidity. The Original Clydesdales took off through Baxter Village, another herd took a more brisk pace through the village and the Third Herd went on a traditional Biscuit Run. In a rare moment in Clydesdale history the entire group was back by COT. It is always a pleasure and an honor.

The Deep – Matthew shows up but not Package!

  • QIC: Cake Boss & Pusher
  • When: 10/08/16
  • Pax: CSPAN, Bubba Gump, Twister, Flat Tire, Jekyll, Dark Helmet, Davinci, Main Frame, Maximus, Worldwide Leader, Bonsai, Witch Hunt, and Honorary Sheamus and Package.....NOT!
  • Posted In: The Deep

12 PAX and 2 Qs showed up at THE DEEP in Lake Wylie for a “Moist” DRP. Little rain in the area but that did not stop this bunch because as Pusher mentioned, we could all be sipping our Lattes watching constant coverage of Hurricane Matthew on our couch or we could be getting better with our brothers in the wind and rain (one of the 5 core principles) and taking our Daily Red Pill. We all chose to get better and make memories together as the storm surges on.

No new FNGs…..I can’t imagine why, however we all need to continue the EH. As Dark Helmet brought up we are all ridiculously blessed “more than most of our peers” and this is the truth. The fact that we have each other in this brotherhood called F3 is one blessing and then to include Sky Q, food, shelter, love and fellowship. We must EH and get more men involved and those in F3 need to continue to stretch themselves and get better in all 3 Fs!

The Thang:

Cake Boss on Q for short mosey across the street

COP:

  • 12 Windmills
  • 12 Imperial Walkers
  • 12 Squats
    • something about “are your legs that big or are you happy to see me”….my legs are that big and I’m Irish to prove I’m not that happy to see anyone!! Hence Sheamus arrived!
  • 12 Merkins

Mosey to Track:

Ladder with 100 yard run between. Begin 1st exercise and add next exercise with # of reps.

  • 1 Merkin (12 total)
  • 2 Squats (22 total)
  • 3 LBCs (30 total)
  • 4 Mak Tar Chi (36 total)
  • 5 Freddy Mercury’s (40 total)
  • 6 Burpees (42 total)
  • 7 Lunges (42 total)
  • 8 Flutter Kicks (40 total)
  • 9 Carolina Dry Docks (36 total)
  • 10 Side Straddle Hops (30 total)
  • 11 Donkey Kicks (22 total)
  • 12 Leg Raises (12 total)
    • 1300 total yards running

YHC talked about how after JC fed the 5000 peeps with some loaves and fishes, the crowd went nuts like at Toby Keith or Zac Brown concert. They thought JC and the disciples were the bomb, and the disciples let it get to their heads…..they thought they were rock stars. JC gets them in the boat an takes them away to give a lesson on humility and grace. This leads to all of us and how we sometimes think we are “all that and a bag of chips” because of accomplishments and feats of strength. Nothing wrong with feeling good about doing well, but we need to always remember who gives us everything. From Grace to Mercy, we get what we don’t deserve and don’t get what we really deserve because Sky Q is a loving father with arms wide open not judging but loving each of us. He only asks the same in return.

Pusher on Q:

50 Side Straddle Hops…..lots of mumble chatter here

Backward Indian Run

  • 1 mile run with each PAX doing 10 merkins at each round
  • 1 more lap for kicks…..Sprint the straights/Mosey the curves

50 Side Straddle Hops…..more mumble chatter here

Pusher mentioned how important it is to post, EH and never take what F3 has done in our lives for granted. We make each other better together and if anyone is in a real storm, we got brothers on either side of you to sharpen you and hold you accountable and make each of us better each day!

Announcements: 10/28 3rd F Convergence, 11/19 The Forging, PAY NOW FOR CHRISTMAS PARTY

Prayers: For all those effected by Hurricane and Ragnar participants, and all spoken/unspoken prayers

Peace Out!

1. Today marks the end of 1 year and 4 months as the Site Q of the Hive. I know Tesh will do great things with this AO despite the dwindling numbers as of late (wonder why that is). This AO has a lot to offer if PAX would just bring their bell out and give it a chance.
2. Always great to have Deacon out with us. Love hearing about his perspective about things as I know I don’t see the world as he see’s it but at least it helps me understand things better. Although I know you were planning on being in Columbia (the country) today, it was great to have you to speak truth. True #HIM
3. Good Luck to all our F3 brothers as well as all the others partaking in the Ragnar relays this weekend. May God keep you all safe and injury free.

16 pax got out of the fart sac this morning, likely do to the twitter marketing campaign highlighting the two Qs (YHC & Repeat), more and more lately people don’t believe us when we tell them we are not twins, let alone not brothers… But we are Whetstone partners, holding each other accountable, encouraging each other to go deeper into our lives, coaching a Let Me Run team at a title one school in Charlotte and coaching each other as we do this thing called life.

After questioning what CSPAN meant in his text message “see you there”, “FMH track or deck”, “yes” we moseyed to the Watchtower via a new route down Kingsley Park Rd at a nice easy 7:29 pace.

Repeat on Q:
Plant until 6 gets in
Partner up for wheelbarrow merkins (wheelbarrow up deck, every 2 concrete sections 5 merkins, partner carrying the feet does 10 squats) switch partners as needed
At next level, wheelbarrow up the stairs, switch at each level
Rinse and repeat wheelbarrow merkins/squats (this time with 10 merkins/squats, cuz 5 just wasn’t enough)

Hand off to WWL
First up, parking deck suicides, each level of the deck is a suicide mark, 4 levels, 10 merkins at the bottom, 5 burpees at the top, end at the bottom
LBCs until 6 gets in
A WWL Q standard is the Powerskip, so we powerskipped the straightaways, lung walked the down ramp for two level until we reached the basement.
Run up the stairs to get back to the top
Descend the deck, jog the down ramps, backwards run the straightaways

Muster up whatever you have left to get back to your car.

COP until 6 gets in with squats, monkey humpers & merkins. Total mileage was 4.4.

COT

Repeat shared his experience with Whetstone this morning, highlighting the value it can have, the accountability it can bring and impact on our community around us. At first I was skeptical about needing another mentor, I thought to myself, I’m 29 years old, married, no kids, stable job… life isn’t that complicated, how could I even benefit from doing this Whetstone thing…

Man was I ever wrong. I was too prideful to admit my own weaknesses and areas of my life were I simply wasn’t letting the light shine in.

There is no man in our community that would not benefit from having another man hold them accountable, if they are honest with them self.

Prayers for those families and communities impact by hurricane Mathew.

The Moleskin – The cinder block is heavy and it is a burden as are many things in life. However, we are constantly reminded how truly blessed we are and how often we run into people who have very heavy burdens. YHC was reminded the night before of some folks that have truly heavy burdens. In comparison, mine are light. So, let’s pick up our cinder blocks and move cheerfully on!!
