Old School Slug Fest at the Corral

Man, I have to give props to our boy Lutefisk for taking over this AO as Site Q and really elevating the attendance and holy cow the consistent FNG’s rolling up here.  It’s so great to see, and likely the only reason I got 14 to come out to my Slug Fest of a Q.

After taking it easy for a week post P200, I decided to turn it on and give the pax a reason for getting up so early.

Warm up was quick – side straddle hops x20, windmlls x 10 and we were off for the real warm-up:

  • Burpee Mile – from COT, I led the pax on a very brisk mosey behind the Teeter, through the apartment complex, up the steep hill, out to 160, down to the gas station and back through the Teeter parking lot and ended back at the steep hill out back.
      • The kicker was that we stopped every 0.2 of a mile and knocked out 5 burpees along the way.  Finished w/ 25 burpees, and then tacked on 5 more just for good measure and a round 30 count.

Next up, a simple Dora…on the hill…with burpees.  We partnered up on the level ground about 3/4 up the hill near the fire station and I informed the pax:

  • Partner 1 runs down the hill, knocks out 5 burpees, and back pedals up the hill.  Meanwhile, the partner not running works on the rep count of the following exercises (partners switch on and off as they complete the hill) –
      • Merkins x100
      • Jump Squats x200
      • Crunchy Frog (Witchhunt special) x300 (we may have cut this off at 200 count)

This stunk.  Back pedaling hills is evil.  Once we finished there, the wounded pax were led back over to the Teeter parking lot via another mosey.  Next up, the Jedi version of Jack Webbs – holy smoke show:

  • On the curb – 1 dip per 4 crab cakes…up to 10 dips / 40 crab cakes.  I  never want to do another crab cake again.  So many crab cakes – appropriate given it’s Golden Corral.  Arms were toast.

From there, we did side shuffle suicides on the full length parking lot which brought my heart rate to 110% of what it’s supposed to do and finished w/ 1 min to spare at COT where we knocked out 11 merkins, 10 diamonds, 9 merkins and 8 diamonds.

Encouraged the pax to read up on Jedi’s Muggo posting about his Greatest Fear and then spoke briefly on something that’s been on my heart .

What would you do differently throughout your day / week / life if you lived eternally focused and NOT from a temporal perspective?  How might you interact w/ your kids or wife or those around you differently?  How might you come to practice more patience / endurance?  Would your timing expectations change?  How might your desires / things you’re asking God for change?

Appreciate all the pax that shared prayer requests and came out to play this fine Tuesday morning.  I was definitely sore so hope each and every one of them walked away in better spirits and a little vomity.

Tinsel’s Birthday month pain fest starts at the swamp

I had the opportunity to sub for Sasquatch, we had 4 bootcampers, 4 ruckers and 6 runners.

I kindly asked the ruckers to join the BC but they declined the invitation to our pain fest.

After a quick disclaimer, Mile High, Cha Ching, Copyright and YHC moseyed for about 1/3 of a mile and did the warm up:

Side straddle hops, windmills, moroccan night clubs,  low slow squats and some cherry pickers.

Following the warm up we moseyed to the stairs next to the back of Just Fresh where some props had been dropped earlier, we started the following with a run up and down the stairs after completion of one circuit:

8 Carolina Dry Docks

8 man makers w/block or weights

8 sledgehammer swing each side

8 worst merkin ever W-R-D

8 touch ground squat

8 biceps curls w/block or weights

8 shoulder tap each side

2 tire flips

After 3 circuits we took a “break” and run around the block were Omega sports used to be to comeback to the stairs and props for 2 more rounds of pain.

With 3 minutes in we found a grassy area for some superhero workout: supermans and the famous Captain Thor, lots of mumble chatter here, one PAX commented that it was the hardest mary he has ever donebut never gave up.

With two minutes to spare we run back to COT to meet the runners and ruckers.

We finished up with announcements, prayers and praises.

Great work by everyone!!

Tinsel out… until the next day

Preparedness and other life skills @ Quagmire

7 was the number for life lessons on preparedness by YHC.
The disclaimer was disclaimed and we were off for a short mosey after a brief intro on what it means to be prepared.
Circle up for some COP:
Morocan Night Clubs, Burpees, Suicide squats, windmills, a circle of merkins, a circle of humpers.

Discuss what being prepared during a workout means and asked PAX who had some form of emergency contact information on them in case of an emergency. 4 PAX had nothing so it was determined that the penalty was 10 merkins each, split into two sets cause YHC sadly can’t bang out 40 straight at the moment. A short plug for ROADID was given and then we were off for some more fun.
Mosey over behind smoothie store for some bearcrawl races. Half lap race each team finishing when the last member crosses the finish line. Those sucked plenty so we capped it at one full lap and mosey to find snowman’s truck full of goodies.
The truck was found and to nobody’s surprise there were heavy things inside that YHC asked the PAX to pick up and carry around. LIFE training on preparedness really kicked into full effect now.
Half of the PAXs planked up facing the other half while a ruck was placed in between each pair. Once YHC yelled out “go” the PAX on one side would jump up grab ruck and take off full sprint towards the end of Home Depot while the other PAX would perform 5 merkins then sprint to catch PAX carrying Rucks. This was a life lesson in kidnapping prevention. PAX had a lot of kids total so we did that a few times alternating the chaser and chase-E.
More lessons on preparedness with a discussion on who has emergency responder training? A scenario was created where three logs located in the back of the snowmobile represented fellow PAX that have suffered some life-threatening injury while participating in the beatdown. Challenged the PAX to respond as if real life situation and tested situational awareness of the group. PAX determined given the proximity of the injured logs it was probably best to carry each over to the emergency department on the other side of Rivergate shopping center since nobody except YHC had a phone and I refused to let anyone use mine as a penalty for being unprepared. Made it to the stoplight before stopping to reflect on what would have been the best plan for care in a real emergency. The consensus was that every situation is different and the more you can be prepared and think through the terrible situations beforehand the better prepared you can be to react. Dropped logs off at the snowmobile and humped it back to COT. Two minutes late but PAX was dragging after rucking those logs and kid snatching.

NMM: Thanks to the guys for accepting me for the idiot I am. Well at least giving me the respect to humor me while I am the Q and go along with my stupid absurd plans for a workout. They are always a little bit weird but never boring and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead.

Thanks for the opportunity JEDI.

Until the snow melts from all my warm hugs….

Disrupting 12 days???

As I type this up, I realize that copy and pasting right after the workout would have been a very easy task but I decided to wait but build up the suspense….or something like that.  At the Swamp gathering, we divided into 3 groups – runners, ruckers and bootcampers.

As YHC led the bootcampers away from COT off into the gloom, we did a quick mosey that included butt kickers, high knees and side to side shuffles.  Once we reached our destination, we circled up to get in some quick warm up and stretching given the cooler temps.

Starting out we did: SSH, windmills, Moroccan night clubs, low slow squats, smurf jacks, and some hamstring and back stretches along with downward dog and honeymooner.

Once stretching and bodies were somewhat defrosted, we got into the Thang.

Given our first week of Q source was disruption, what better way to mix things up and disrupt the status quo than pick on something everyone was familiar with – the infamous “12 days of Christmas”.  With this in mind, YHC went with “12 days…since NYE” which was still true and this was only the beginning.  Each exercise was going to have a bit of a twist and was going to make the PAX challenge not only their bodies in the early gloom, but also their listening, math and memory skills!  Here’s how we started out and in true “12 day” style, started with 1, then moved to 2 and back to 1, then to 3 to 2 to 1, then to 4….and so on.  Whatever number you’re on, that’s how many exercises were done unless there was a multiplier included after the exercise (for example see #4 which is x2 meaning 8 of each variety of calf raise.  Also where there’s 2 exercises listed, you got to do both at the designated number.

1. Lap / run (which included up and down the set of stairs and around the parking lot for a short loop)

2. Cracken burpees (if you don’t know what this is, a regular burpee with 3 hand release merkins at the bottom and a Lake Wiley special!)

3. Fluttters & Rosalita & American Hammer (3 sets of each and double count with flutters and hammers)

4. Calve raises (all 3 varieties – inside, regular, outside) x2

5. Smurf jacks x2 (this is a squat position while doing SSH)

6. WWII big boy (legs in butterfly position and big boy situp)

7. Diamonds & Hand release

8. Jump lunge (each leg)

9. Dips x2

10. CDD x2

11. Plank ski jump (1 full cycle is 1 count)

12. Squats x3

13. Bonus round…Toe Taps

A few PAX made it through the 12 days and were looking for more, so in true disruption fashion, YHC was happy to accommodate with a 13th bonus day!

Headed back to COT with 4 min remaining, we managed to get in a few minutes of Mary while we were joined by our fellow runners and ruckers.  Wrapping up with name-o-rama, announcements and TAPs, YHC was happy to be called upon to lead.

Even with the disruption we face every day, no matter how big or small, it’s how we handle the change that makes us better.  Even if throwing in a small curve ball into something like “12 days” gives you pause to think about change, applying this “pause” to everyday life for bigger curve balls is great practice for the game of life. Slowing down life to wait for the curve balls that will come across the plate is a patient man’s game. Disrupting the status quo for controlled (or even uncontrolled) practice…there’s nothing wrong with that game!

Santa’s Trip 2.0

Similar to the last Santa Trip in terms of exercises and idea, however we changed from a 4 corner style workout to a run-around-stop-somewhere-and-exercise type of workout.  What would you call it?

Mosey to North Pole (Salsarita’s)

  • Warm-O-Rama (Windmills, hillbilly walkers, weed pullers, light stretching)
  • SSH, Boxcutters, American Hammers in cadence to “Little St. Nick”-Beach Boys

Mosey to Asia (PetSmart/Fuel Pizza-ish area)

  • Dora w/ Partner… Partner A-Bear Crawl and back to start Partner B-Sumo Squats.  Repeat until “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”- Andy Williams is over.

Mosey to Australia (Home Depot)

  • Dora w/ Partner… Partner A- run to a tree and back Partner B- Peter Parker. 2nd Round- Partner A- same Partner B- Prison Cell Merkin Burpee.  Repeat until “What Christmas Means to Me”-Stevie Wonder is over.

Mosey to Antarctica (Between Home Depot-Target)

  • Seal Jacks, Imperial Walkers (during instru. part), back to Seal Jacks to finish out during “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree”-Brenda Lee plays.  (Not gonna lie, this was my favorite part… I thought it looked cool.)

Mosey to Africa (BAM)

  • Dora w/ partner… Partner A- Crocodile Crawl to spot and back Partner B- Moroccan Night Clubs.  Complete this during length of “Do They Know It’s Christmas”-Band Aid (Not gonna lie… this was my least favorite part. But still fun?)

Mosey to Europe (CVS)

  • Dora w/ partner… Partner A-Run laps around parking lot Partner B- Freddie Mercury.  2nd Round subst. ski jumps for Freddie Mercury’s over a parking spot line.  Did this while playing “Wonderful Christmastime”-Paul McCartney.  (cut short due to running out of time with 2 continents left!)

Mosey to South America (Fountain Area)

  • Dora w/ partner… Partner A- run a lap while Partner B- mountain climbers.  Subst. monkey humpers for mountain climbers.  Complete to “Jingle Bell Rock”- Bobby Helms.  (kudos to Witch Hunt for pointing out that “Feliz Navidad” would have been better.  Just couldn’t pull myself to do it… didn’t want that song stuck in my head all day.)

Mosey to North America (COT)

  • CDDs, Crabcakes, American Hammers during the length of “Christmas in Hollis”- Run DMC
  • We had 1 minute left… Witch Hunt led us in some LBC’s to his favorite Christmas song/artist of all time Mariah Carey- “All I Want For Christmas”.

Name-O-Rama (almost forgot it)

Announcements- Convergence, Q Source, possible late start for Abyss on the 26th?

Prayers- traveling this season, Cha-ching’s M w/ surgery Wednesday

I had fun planning and executing this workout.  It was fun… silly… slightly awkward at times.  But the lighthearted conversations and laughs are always welcome in my opinion.  Even so… we still logged in somewhere between 2-3 miles (who knows?) and other stuff.

Come out to Poopdeck Thursday for the 3.0 version of this workout!  #SYITG

Thanks for the opportunity to lead Jedi!
