Leadership Development

Leadership Development, as defined by F3 Q Source, is the process employed
by a group to develop new leaders. While simply stated, this definition can be
challenging to execute if we wade through the world as Sad Clowns. The Fort is
rich in leaders as observed by YHC in COT, in our community and more
importantly in our homes. But similar to fitness, leadership must continually be
developed, these muscles must be challenged, or else leaders too can fall victim
to the Status Quo.

As we introduce a focus on Leadership Development or LDP in the Fort, our
goal is to build internally (Get Right) to impact externally (Live/Lead Right) and
leave a legacy (Leave Right). These core concepts written in Q Source will be
the lexicon of our efforts as we challenge ourselves to continue to grow as great
leaders and develop the next generation of leaders along the way.

The challenge is simple, the content is available but the choice to grow as a
leader is yours. The fruit of this choice has immense potential and I am confident
that the Pax of the Fort will continue to execute.

Whipped out a swampy sweaty wienke with a shable

WARMUP: It was warm and schweaty.

Run around the perimeter of the parking lot with butt kickers, high knees, side shuffles and then circled up. SSH, windmill, cherry picker, low slow squats, merkins, honey nooner, down dog. Back to COT to grab the 40 bag.

THE THANG: Took the bag and pax over to bubbles and bows because they need a trim. This wienke was originally used at the Swamp in June 2019…oldie but goodie.

In a circle we numbered off to determine our order as 2 would follow 1, 3 follow 2 and so forth. Pax 1 would run to the other end of the parking lot to do shoulder presses, min 10 and max 25, and then handoff to 2. While pax 1 was on the bag, the remaining pax were doing exercises and pax 1 would pick up at the beginning or where they left off.

Exercises were: 25 bomb jacks, 50 jump squats, 75 calf raises, 100 SSH, 100 flutter right leg only, 75 CDD, 50 merkins, 25 burpees.

After the shoulder press and all pax completed this, next was 10/25 of curls. Then was 5 squats, then was 3 merkins with bag in your back. So continued to rotate the back as pax completed the 25-100-25.

Ran back to COT for a shable (a story in the tale of a fable authored by shady, shable). False ending so did a full lap around the parking lot, then back to COT.
MARY: went around the circle with stretching exercises called out…it was great.
ANNOUNCEMENTS: heard about how awesome HIM camp was, 9/11 on 9/9 event, newsletter
COT: old school CSPAN prayers and praises

Backwards accumulator with a touch of Apache

WARMUP: Wegs said peace out and ran away.  The rest of us stuck around.  Warmup stayed local at COT: SSH, cherry picker, low slow squat, merkins, windmill
THE THANG: We ran away from COT towards the bus loop and stopped at the corner for our first exercise…of the backwards accumulator.  Started out with 10 bomb jacks followed by Apache 10 count from Mainframe.  Next took off through the entrance and up to the front of the school for some Al gores while we waited and then did 20 diamond merkins along with the 10 bombs.  Here is where Senator gave us an old school Apache 10 count where we learned about this redwood’s history.  Next was back down to the corner where we stopped for 30…30 hammers, then the 20, then the 10.  Undertaker picked up the 6 before we got started, because that’s what we do.  Got us an Apache 10 from undertaker at this stop. We then ran to another entrance of the school for 40 squats, then 30 down to 10.  To the back of the school we packed in 50 flutters down to the 10.  Then we stayed there for 60 calve raises down to the 10.  Then we ran back to COT.  On the way, there may have been some merlot deposits but I think that’s what happens sometimes when you work extra hard and push…so good on you pax.
MARY: had a little time for some Mary
ANNOUNCEMENTS: newsletter goodies
COT: Wegs came back and left us without a wave.  So prayers for him, lol.

Welles Remy Crowther

On September 11, 2001, nine minutes after United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower between floors 77 and 85 at 9:03 a.m., Crowther called his mother from his office at 9:12 a.m., leaving the message, “Mom, this is Welles. I wanted you to know that I’m OK.” Crowther made his way to the 78th-floor sky lobby, where he encountered a group of survivors, including a badly burned Ling Young.  Young had been one of about 200 people waiting at a bank of elevators to evacuate when the plane hit the South Tower and was one of the few survivors. Crowther, carrying a young woman on his back, directed them to the one working stairway. He escorted them 17 floors down and then returned to the 78th floor while wearing a red bandana around his nose and mouth to protect him from smoke and haze. He found another group of survivors, Crowther assisted in putting out fires and administering first aid. He then announced to that group, “Everyone who can stand, stand now. If you can help others, do so.” He directed this group downstairs as well. As occupants of the Tower headed for the street, Crowther returned up the stairs to help others. He was last seen doing so with members of the FDNY before the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m.

Crowther’s body was found in March 2002, alongside several firefighters and emergency workers bunched in a suspected command post in the South Tower lobby. The New York medical examiner’s office said his body was found intact, with no signs of burns, and that authorities speculated that he was aiding the rescue effort as a civilian usher when the building collapsed. Crowther’s family was unaware of the details of his activities between his last phone call to his mother and his death, until Allison Crowther read survivors’ firsthand accounts in The New York Times of being saved by a man in a red bandana, which led to Allison meeting with the people Welles had saved.  They confirmed from photographs the identity of the man who aided them. According to survivor accounts, Crowther saved as many as 18 people following the attacks.
