I was part of the support crew for GrowRuck 24 last Saturday Aug 7. Watching those fellas go through what they did reminded me of this passage, so I read it for the pax at the Ranch:

Romans 5:3-5 NIV
3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

This was Q number 1 of 3; doing a Trifecta for turning 47.  Varsity on 8/13 and Alcatraz on 8/14.  Oh boy.

F3 Dads Closing Kickball

  • QIC: Band Camp
  • When: 08/14/2021
  • Posted In: F3 Dads

The sands of time have run through our summer.
F3 Dads had a great run through vacation season 2021.

On 8/14, we’ll close with some kickball games. The 2.0 age range attendance has been pretty strong for elementary age and younger. Occasionally a few middle schoolers deemed us cool enough to workout with. But we were pretty lacking in high schoolers….maybe it’s the early start time, maybe dad just isn’t cool enough to EH his progeny, or maybe structuring a workout for ages 2-18 is challenging.

Here’s a my proposed solution, kickball games!

Kids vs. Dads

We’ll have enough space to have two games happening simultaneous if we need to divide up by ages.
I’m also bringing a kids’ parachute for some parachute games for the smaller ones in a shaded area of the park.

So wake your sixteen-year-old up on Saturday and get them to WEP by 0800. Taunt them this week with some trash talk. They’re going to need motivation to start waking up again.
Starting Monday when they HAVE to go to school is bad form.

Waking up early Sunday for the early service at your church seems too little/too late.

But 0800 kickball on a Saturday is just right!!

Fast 5 friendly, except…

Remember, the Fast 5 was kicking off 2 hours post-COT so we need to make this one leg friendly. I got the memo but apparently, Bonsai did not. While the complaining in the second half ramped up, we knew we’d all be better for it.
With Maximus up for the first 30mins, here’s what happened:

We moseyed around lap around the park with Toy Soldiers and Butt Kickers thrown in for good measure.
Back in the parking lot, we did some slow squatting, 3-way calf raises and wide-arm Merkins

At the playground:
Group 1: 15 Pull-Ups & 30 Merkins
Group 2: American Hammers until Group 1 is done
Due to some questionable form, we did that one again with 10 Pull Ups and 20 Merkins.

Group 1: 15 Pull-Ups & 30 Carolina Dry Docks
Group 2: Freddy Mercury’s until Group 1 is done

Back to the lot for 10 Burpees, Boats & Canoes, Grave Diggers and Super Mans

Hand off to Bonsai:

We moseyed to the area at Fire Dept wall:
Level 1 Drill – 10 each
Merkins / Mountain Climbers, Hip Thrusters (questionable call)
25 LBCs
30sec Wall Sit
Repeat then run to the basketball court and back

25 Dirty Myrtle
15 Mike Tysons
25 American Hammers
25 Squats
Repeat then run to the basketball court and back

30sec BTTW
20 Plank Jack
10 Lunges each leg
15 Leg raises
Repeat then run to the basketball court and back

Bear crawl some, mosey, 30sec 6″ Merkin hold, mosey

Burden Sharing

Thank you to the 3 other PAX who showed up to Bushwood on this beautiful gloom to share in some great fellowship and a little fitness. Thank you to L-Train for allowing YHC to lead this morning.

WARMUP

We began the morning with the following in cadence without the bells: Side Straddle Hops, Imperial Walkers, Low Slow Squats, Peter Parker Peters, Merkins, and 10 6-Count Burpees.

THE THANG

After the warmup we began what is known around F3 Nation as Pearls on a String. Basically, we took a mosey (quick one) and stopped every so often for a round of some exercises (mostly in cadence) called out by YHC. We attempted to impact every muscle group each time we stopped.

Stop 1: Merkins, Static Lunges (each leg), Carolina Dry Docks, LBC’s.

Stop 2: Diamond Merkins, Static Lateral Lunges (each leg), Pike Presses, V-Ups.

Stop 3: On the Bleachers: Irkins, Dips, Step-Ups, Derkins.

Stop 4: Each PAX performed 10 pull ups while everyone else did burpees until all PAX completed their pull-ups.

Stop 5: At the Wall: 5 Squats on one side of the wall, jump over the wall, 5 Merkins on the other side until 0550.

Then we moseyed up the .25 Mile hill behind the football field stopping at each streetlight to perform 5 Burpees.

This morning was full of mumblechatter and fun. What you want to have at any F3 Workout.

NMM

Yesterday I received an unexpected phone call from a brother in F3 The Fort asking me a question. He asked, “How can we help?” What he was asking about is way too long to put into a BackBlast, but just to know that he and others are there to help me is one of the most important aspects of F3 to me, if not the most.
I challenged the PAX today to not carry their burdens alone. We are not meant to bear the weight of everything we put on ourselves. Be vulnerable and share your burdens with others and take the burden off of someone when you know they need it.

Aye!

NMM:

Been reading Hunter, Gather, Parent, it’s amazing how much anger western culture parents with. We think kids are “testing their boundaries,” when maybe they just don’t have fully-developed brains. It’s like anger is the hammer of parenting tools. And if it’s the only one we’ve got, every problem becomes a nail. I’m working on having other tools, and seeing the world (and my kids) in a different way.

Prayers for teachers, parents, and students starting school soon under changing conditions.

OPRAHS Vision at Quagsource

Qsource topic was Vison. Q point 3.4 if you happen to be following along with the numbering system.
Vision can be defined by Recognizing advantage and the movemnt required to achieve it.

OPRAHs made an appearance thanks to DiVinci and my fatigued mental state from being on vacation last week.

OP => Overhead press
R => Rows, bent over alternating with upright rows or as I like to call them Scooby Doos.
AH => American Hammers with ruck
S => Ruck Swings

Thanks to Flounder for taking us out at COT. My man has a gift.

Also note that Flounder is getting much better in his leading of cadance and will be on the q schedule very soon at Quagmire.
Thanks for the mumble chatter gents.

Stay frosty my friends.

Travis Manion Foundation 9/11 Heroes Ruck/Run Shadow Event

  • QIC: Tinsel
  • When: 09/10/2021
  • Posted In: Chupacabra

PAX,

As we approach the 20th anniversary of 9/11 we honor the fallen heroes through the Travis Manion Foundation, unfortunately they didn’t have a Charlotte chapter this year so I’ve created a private shadow event for the 5K ruck/run.

We had  a great turnout for the TMF WOD to honor 1st Lt Travis Manion at 52 PAX and my goal for this event is to reach at least 75 PAX, let’s show TMF what F3 The Fort and F3 Lake Wylie are made of… feel free to spread the word, you can ruck or run the 5K.

We’ll launch from Chupacabra at 0500 on 9/10/21, all paces welcome and you will get a cool patch, shirt, race bag and swag.

You will not find this shadow event in the TMF main page so please follow this link:

https://www.travismanion.org/events/911-heroes-run/2021-private-shadow-events-registration/

then follow directions in the attached PDF below to register, don’t forget to use code GORUCK15 for 15% off:

Wild at Heart – Love God…Live Free

  • QIC: Kaiser & Divac
  • When: 08/18/2021
  • Posted In: 3rdF

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs…ask yourself what makes your heart come alive, because what the world needs is men fully alive”

Why is it that the desires we find deep in our hearts are so far from the lives we find ourselves living?  It is this question and the question of the antidote for this lack of whole heartedness that we will be searching for over the 7-week temporary Third F AO “Wild at Heart”.

This is a journey into whole heartedness guided by a video series from Wild at Heat Ministry – see the trailer HERE!  Each week we will gather to watch the video (each about 20 min) and have some guided discussion over coffee afterwards.  Our hope is this 7-week session will be the beginning of a deeper work to unlock our masculine heart and unleash the impact we are meant to have in the Kingdom.

It’s time to cut through the BS, it’s time to remove the fig leaf, it’s time to stop living from your false self…it’s time to be fully alive!  It’s going to be a wild ride…join us!

When: Each Wed from Aug 18 – Sep 29 at 0615-0715

Where: Springfield Community Clubhouse – 420 Horton Grove Rd, Fort Mill

Schedule is designed so that you can post at 1st F of choice then head straight to the clubhouse for 3rd F.  Coffee/Water will be provided each morning.
