The Hive 2018.01

Happy New Year!

It was sub-teens this morning and by the forcast, not supposed to get above freezing today.  Even though this weather is slightly ridiculous, 5 men still posted to the Hive to find something hard to do, and get it out of the way early.

Warmup
SSH x30, Burpee x10 OYO
Mosey to the band practice lot for some yard markers.
Tricep Extension x20, Burpee x10

The Thang
AMRAP for points: front raises = 1 point, 40 yd dash and back = 6 points
I was around 56 points on this one…  Apparently, no one else could add at this point, so I win by default?  I think Geronimo was in the 60s which means he needed to bring out his 50lb KB.  AMIRIGHT?!
Flutter x20, FredMerc x20, Burpee x10
AMRAP for points: bent rows = 1 point, 40 yd dash and back = 6 points
I was at 70 points on the nose on this one, and I was last.  Peabody, Airborne, and Geronimo had me beat.  Sugarbug refuses to count over 32 apparently.
Flutter x20, FredMerc x20, Burpee x10
Split into two groups 40 yards apart: Fireman Carries with 2x 40lb KBs relay style till each man has three 40 yd carries
Squat Hold x12, 40 yard dash
Steven Curry with holds for 20 yards, 80 yard dash to the endzone.

Mosey back to COT.
THE HIVE IS AT HARRIS TEETER CONVERGENCE ON 160 AND SUTTON/PLEASANT NEXT WEEK (12/12).  Joe Davis is tomorrow so WEP is closed.  Read your newsletter for announcements.

BB – Swamp Ruck – Miles and Smiles

Here we go, new year, new workout.

Miles and Smiles

The six of us showed up with our Rucks ready to move it.  Grabbed a cement pipe, and a couple sand bags and got in a little under 3 miles.

Great times and great practice for all of our events coming up.

Glad to have Shakespeare joining us with his new shiny Ruck (yeah I’ll take care of that on Tuesday).  Nasa talked about old man farts coming from ahead of us, I’ll let you guess who the supplier was.  And good times.

If you are new to rucking and want an intro come on out.  Post up and let us know and we can source a ruck for you to borrow.  If you are a expert Rucker come out and log some miles and have a great time with us.

COME OUT TUESDAY TO GC

Ruck Tuesday at Golden Corral

We rucked. It was a real hoot. Here’s what we did:

We loaded up “The Worm” on our shoulders, which for the uninitiated is a 4-section (in this case 3 since there were only 3 of us) beast with 4 short logs connected by chains. It’s no fun after the first mile or so.

Speed rucked down 160 to The DOggy Depot, or whatever that thing is called near Bruster’s, and then we did the following:

100 curls
50 squats
25 OH Press
0 Burpees
25 Triceps Extensions
50 Flutter Press
100 Upright Rows

Speed Ruck back under weight.

We had a few minutes when we got back, so Rad says, “Wanna do some sandbag tosses?” If Rad ever says this to you, the answer is “no”. You’re welcome for that little tidbit. He pulled out a 40, 60, and 80 (more like 90) and we proceeded to rotate through pressing them and throwing them as far as we could. ChaChing absolutely MANHANDLED those things. It was stupid. My arms still hurt two days later.

After that, we joined the BootCampers for COT.

It was a good time. That’s all I have to say about that.

Helmet, out.

Frosty Footloose

11 PAX gathered in about 18 frosty degrees at Footloose.  The most important thing is that they showed up!!!  That is the first step – show up!  Great job.

The work:

A brief disclaimer followed by Windmills and SSHs with a mosey to a church parking lot.  YHC has no idea which church it was as there are about three or four within rock throwing distance.

The main work was centered on a triangle – enough of the four corners – we went with the triangle symbolized by the triangle of pain, the Illuminati or the Taco Bell Stacker.

Three stations, with three rounds at each station with legs, abs and upper body.  After each rotation the PAX ran up and down the church stairs.  On round followed by a brief moleskin and then rinse and repeat.

With time still permitting and the temp only dropping the PAX serpentined the stairs followed by 50 calf raises.  With still more glorious time remaining,  we Indian ran to downtown FM and back to our COT.

We prayed for Squeaky’s daughter as well as Reece and Maggie – Mr. Clean’s 2.0s.

The moleskin:

When I was in college one of my room mates uncles was a priest.  Often, on Sunday, he would call and if we answered (no cell phones in 1981) he would ask whoever answered if we had been to Mass.  When I said no, he asked why.  Why?  Because, I said, I got nothing out of it.

Well, he said, it isn’t about you.  It is about you supporting the others are that are there.  By your mere presence you may mean something to someone.  And . . . maybe, you will benefit.

It is the same with posting in  the gloom – we are there to support each other.  To lend encouragement, a hand when someone is down, to offer advice (its free so its worth what you paid) and to just be there.

That’s all – Twister out.

Paradise Reading Center

PAX!! As you know we have been engaging with the Paradise community and the experience has been awesome! We now have a chance to become even more ingrained with the community through the Paradise Reading Center. The Reading Center takes place every Monday and Wednesday from 4PM-5PM at Bethlehem Baptist Church 601 Joe Louis St. Fort Mill,SC 29715. The kids are doing homework and reading and we have the opportunity to assist or listen. This is  a great opportunity for us to mentor and encourage beyond the workout. Looking to get a schedule with 4-8 PAX each session starting 1/8/17 and going throughout the school year. See link to sign up. https://docs.google.com/document/d/11ak80g7L12X6hCDN1_h5cSUemDlqWzBdgMyJII1RHy4

Looking forward to the PAX continued effort and making an everlasting impact in the Paradise community! Reach out to Copay or Deacon with any questions or to get on the schedule for session(s)

More Running, Less Bootcamp

#HypeTrain rolled into the #LacesIn Station once again.  This time it was a family affair with #SPEEDFORNEED coming south to join forces as well as #LacesOut (#F3RunClub) (#Yogging (soft J)) converging with the Bootcampers for 45 minutes of …..well lots of running.  The irony was not lost on YHC (the artist formerly known as Mountain Buffalo) as he gave up the ‘running for an extended period of time’ thing years ago.  Vowing never to return.  Yet his own Q hijacked by nothing more than simple running.  At the very least YHC squeezed in a couple of merkins (only for #Rooney’s sake) and taught everyone what an “updown” was – seriously?  Who doesn’t know what an updown entails?!?  It’s even in the gawl-dang name.  YHC digresses.  Here is what happened:

Little Baby Jog to the football field (so cushy – so soft).

Dynamic Warmup

High Knees, Butt Kickers, Side Shuffles, Toy Soldiers, Toe Touches, Long Strides, Power Skips (Trademark: WWLs).

Then merkins (Rooney!!!)  and windmills to straighten everyone out.

Time to Bootcamp:

Partner up and size kinda matters for very confusing sequence.

UpDown – Partner Push – Run to Opposite Side of Field – UpDown – Partner Push

Repeat this every 20 yards as you move down the field to the endzone and then go back down to the other endzone.

(This was a rugby (shocker – I know) simulation – expend energy – sprint – get on the ground – get back up – expend more energy – sprint again – then repeat.  While it was unorthodox and confusing to some – it was a smoker.)

Rinse and Repeat with 2 updowns before each partner push.  Another smoker.

Give me a ten count.

Hey – let’s breakout the running chairs and do some sprints!!!  Tolkien was nice enough to give us all a quick tutorial about how they work.  We split into teams and relayed around the track with weights.  Then we got on the field and chased the chairs for 100 yards – over and over and over and over and over again.  Then some (small) pax jumped in the chairs and they got pushed and the rest of us chased for 100 meters over and over and over and over again.  Okay – enough running!!!  Back to the field.

YHC went back to one of his favorites – the extra long bear crawl.  This time – 100 yards.  Crowd pleaser!

We worked our way back with some rugby sprints (could not resist).

Ended with a little bit o mary then ran the chairs back to COT.

Great time out there among so major #HIMs and it’s always an honor to lead.  YHC saw a tweet asking for more “SERVICE” to our community from F3Nation.  No better example of pure SERVICE then Tolkien.  The amount of time/energy/passion/service this man brings to #SPEEDFORNEED is incredible.  Follow his lead in 2018 – get out there – get uncomfortable – and serve others!  Aye!

One Year Celebration at The Coop

On my second Q in as many days to celebrate my one year anniversary of F3 I had a much better turnout (Can’t blame Clemson for fartsacking today…)

12 men arrived in the slightly chilly morning air to make themselves better.

A short mosey led us back to where we started to begin warm-up

-25 SSH

-10 Windmill

-10 Imperial Walker

-10 Hillbilly Walker

-25 Moroccan Nightclub

-10 Peter Parker

-10 Parker Peter

-10 Mountain Climber

We then took a short mosey toward the large wall on the side of the school.  This mosey included high knees, some karaoke, and imperial walkers

Once at the wall we completed 3 sets of

-Peoples chair waterfall with each PAX giving a 10 count

-40 OYO dips on the curb

-25 OYO flutter

-Wall Plank-45 degrees-Balls to the Wall each for a 10 count

Once this fun was completed we mosey over the the base of the parking lot near the stadium and partnered up for DORA with one partner running to the top of the parking lot at the stop sign and back with the other completing the exercise.  Total of 100 merkins, 200 squats and 300 LBC

The PAX was much more efficient with the DORA than I had given them credit so we then mosey back to the smooth pavement just past COT for some Mary which included Freddie Mercury, Plank Jacks, LBC’s, X’s and O’s, Mountain Climbers, Dying Cockroach, and the ever popular Body Destroyers

COT with announcements and Prayer Requests.  Please pray for Squeaky’s daughter.
