The Coop – Small Victories make the Difference

15 Men arrived at Nation Ford HIgh School (NAFO) aka The Coop for a Wednesday morning Daily Red Pill. The thing we do not realize is we win more than we lose. We focus on the big monsters in our life but never celebrate the small victories in our lives. Simply getting out of the Fartsack and posting is a huge Victory. Leading a group of brothers in getting better, is a HUGH victory. Getting better physically, socially, spiritually is winning at life!! Celebrate the Victories and learn from the losses.

I spoke to the PAX about we need to know our objective and what are we trying to win. (Marriage, kids, career, life) and do we have the pieces and parts needed to succeed. My objective is to Glorify my Sky Q and i need to be in the word, prayer, fellowship with fellow believers and be accountable to this objective by my brothers. Find Victory brothers by having the right ingredients for winning!

NMM

Sermon was about taking life for granted. I talked about travels, family, work, and how my stuff has gotten complicated over the last few weeks. On Sunday night I did the Capital Ruck Tour in Atlanta with a blind Marine who did the entire ruck with us. A few times on our route our path got dark and I wanted to complain about my path getting dark and hard to see (+I forgot my headlamp), and I quickly realized how “silly” that sounds after hearing John’s testimony on Sunday night. Each day we should realize how good we have it rather than waiting for things to be taken away to make us understand…

Cheddar shared a great message in COT about getting your $hit together as men because tomorow is not guaranteed…

We played with blocks at Varsity. You know, like men do…

I was super proud of myself for figuring out how to make my bluetooth speaker work. Then I didn’t realize the stupid timer app won’t let you stream music while it’s on. The music has to be downloaded to your phone. So, sadly, Pax had to endure my a capella renditions of 80’s hits while we worked out. Next time, Karaoke for sure…
It’s a HIIT workout. So I decided we would do a 60-40-20 workout. 60 seconds of work (AMRAP), 10 second rest, 40 seconds of work, 10 second rest… and so on. The same exercise is performed for each set of 60-40-20. In between sets, we ran down the hill to the Elementary School and back. Which is to say, we all watched Straight Up run way ahead of us while we thought, “how do we get faster…? Oh yeah, chase that guy… but his name is Straight Up… does that mean there is no Chaser? Hey, where IS Chaser? I haven’t seen him in a while… I wonder… oh… I’m at the top of the hill, I better get to work…”

Round 1: Curls
Round 2: Overhead Press
Round 3: Squats
Round 4: Flutter with Press
Round 5: Swings
Round 6: Lunges
Round 7: Standing Straight Out Chest Press
After the last set/round, we ran to the bottom of the hill and AYGed it to the top.

I feel like there was another round in there, but it was dark, so I couldn’t see…

Helmet, out.

Impromptu Q Can Be Painful Too…..

It’s always interesting when the PAX show up for a morning workout only to look at each other and ask “Are you the Q?” and not get an affirmative answer from anyone in the group.  Obviously, hence the title of this workout blast, not one of the PAX in attendance had the Q.  After several minutes of mumble chatter and nervous looks by the PAX to each other, YHC huddled up the PAX and away we went.

The PAX moseyed to the back end of the parking lot, circled up, listened to a slightly delayed disclaimer (thanks for the reminder Magnum, especially since you brought an FNG), and got busy with the warm up.

The Warm Up

25 x SSH

15 x Windmill

15 x Moroccan Night Clubs

10 x Merkins

20 x Flutter Kicks

and I am sure there were others.  Somewhere in the middle of the warm up, CottonEye came in hot and  “agreed” to assisting with the morning’s Q.

The Thang

The PAX moseyed to the curb at the middle school where we assumed the plank position along the curb.  The PAX, while in plank, shuffled left while the person on the right end bear crawled to the end of the row.  Think Indian Run in plank with bear crawls as the sprint.

From there the PAX climbed a Jacobs Ladder between the two basketball goals.  Exercises were Merkins and Bombjacks.

4 rounds of 4 corners was next on the list with the 4 corners being LBC’s, CDD, Merkins and Squats.  The PAX split into two groups and proceeded to get on with it.  1st round x 20 reps, 2nd x 15 reps, 3rd x 10 reps, 4th x 5 reps.

The PAX moseyed to the back of the elementary school to visit our old friend Dora. The Dora consisted of 50 x Merkins, 100 x LBC’s and 150 x Squats.  All partnered up and proceeded to go on a search with 1 partner performing the exercise and the other running the loop behind the school.  Once finished with Dora, we met up with our old friend Jack Webb and learned to count to 10.

Once completed, all moseyed back for a quick round of Mary then COT for announcements, prayers and praises.

We were all reminded of the relatively short time we all have here on earth, brought front and center this week by the loss of a Fort Mill Teen, and that we should love and hold on to our children and loved ones, for tomorrow isn’t guaranteed to anyone.  We all have the opportunity each day to be the best we can be given the tools God has given us; whether at a work out, being a friend, a son, a father, a spouse, or most importantly in our daily walk with Christ.  Ask yourself daily, “Am I being the best I can be?”  I know I fall short in many things, but Lord knows, I am trying….

YHC challenged the 8 PAX to do 2 sets of 5 pull ups with ruck on.

Rucked into stadium and lined up in 2 columns for sandbag throws from one end of football field to other and back. Then rucked up and down the football stand stairs from one end back. Rinse and repeat with sandbag throws and stadium stairs. Threw sandbags again down to other side of endzone and then formed 2 lines abs flipped tires from one end to other. MESSAGE ON LEADERSHIP- F3 gives us a great platform to grow our leadership skills and build confidence as a leader. The Pax will let you know if/when something has gone wrong but will also be there to lift you up. Also, the best leaders don’t focus on their ROLE, they focus on the GOAL. So, be the leader you were called to be.

Great group of men came to work. Veterans guided the FNGs and encouraged them at every step of the way. YHC kept reminding the group that it is UvsU out here. Some quality mumble chatter about what moderate means. Smiles all around when moved on from the stations.

Wrap Up

What we have at The Fort is special. It is a strong group of PAX led by men who live with intentionality. I am sure that each of us would agree that it has impacted our lives in ways that we will never be able to describe. At some point for each of us, we were gifted F3. We were headlocked by someone who recognized the impact that F3 had on them and how it could help us. With that in mind, let’s pay this gift forward. Be the leader you were called to be and use your influence to headlock the sad clowns around you, FNGs and Kotters, that are where you once were. Be a leader.

Moleskin

They say “the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. Some of our PAX saw that first hand over the last week. As we all now know, the 12 Fort Pax set to serve in Colombia had their plans changed by Hurricane Irma. However, you won’t find them complaining and feeling sorry for themselves about the time and money they poured into this trip over the last 18 months. Rather, you’ll see a confident and faithful group of men that know that no matter what plans they make, God is in control and will put them right where he wants them to be. We all deal with disappointments and setbacks every day because of things that are out of our control. Let’s work to make sure that our attitudes are similar to what we’ve seen this week from these men. Remember Who is in charge. Keep the faith & keep moving.
