Dora’s Backpack Adventure at Quagmire

If you’ve ever watched an episode, you know how annoying it is. The viewer is asked to repeat things she says, find clues in plain sight, etc. It’s terrible. But even in its terribleness, it wasn’t quite as terrible as this am…

Vinnie came in on two wheels, and so we rolled out without him, but we circled around into the Office Max lot to let him catch up and do a little warming up:

  • Windmills x 10
  • Imperial Walkers x 10
  • Merkins x 10
  • Squats x 15
  • Moroccan Nightclubs x 20
  • SSH x 20

Gonna take an adventure with Dora and her backpack. Remember the following: Wine Shop, Target, Gander Mountain – Repeat out loud in Dora fashion, with that awful little sing-songy voice… (I tried to find a clip to put in here for reference, and I could only handle like 8 seconds of her mouth… I’ve never wanted to slap a fictitious little girl with a talking backpack and monkey pet more…)

Mosey to Parking lot behind Wine Shop
Get in groups of 3 – size matters for sure
We’re going to do 150-300-450 of the following:
150 Jump Squats (not tuck jumps)
300 Merkins
450 Flutters

Here’s how it works:
Partner 1 carries Partner 2 (The Backpack) down the length of the parking lot, switch to come back, while Partner 3 does the Jump Squats. Rotate in Partner 3. Continue until Jump Squats complete. When you’ve completed all of the Jump Squats DO NOT move on to the next exercise. We’re going to do that elsewhere…

Mosey to front of Target
Same deal for 300 Merkins

Mosey to Gander Mountain
Same deal for 450 Flutters – though by this time, we were a little smoked and also getting pressed for time, so we modified by NOT carrying each other around.

Then it was time to mosey back to COT. We stopped on a couple of walls to pick up the 6 for wall sits and BTTW on the way back, and then rounded it out with a couple of minutes of Mary at the end of it all.

===============================

NMM:
The best quote of today was definitely from Vinnie. He outright REFUSES to do Partner Carries, and today he ensured that NO ONE will ever try to make him as he said, “I’m not even wearing drawers today.” Personally, I’m not willing to take that chance… are you?

Helmet, out…

What a terrific morning!  The young men of Paradise energized the vets among the pax, bringing enthusiasm, sincerity and personality to the experience.  A whole string of FNGs of the shortie variety posted. Hopefully their experience was positive enough to bring them back out next week and in the weeks ahead.

Deacon & Bolt pushed the pax for a name for this new AO at Steel Street Park.  Leave it to an FNG in the 10-12 YO range to provide the mic drop moment of the morning.  He wanted to name it G-Fit (spelling TBD by Site Qs).  What does that mean? “Get Fit!”  The pax voted among three options in total and G-Fit won out.  Clearly this young man (FNG/Percy) has a future in marketing.

With the monthly theme of Faith, we talked about Failure and the Faith it requires to get back up and move forward.  Whether the failure is of a sinful nature or of a worldly version, I cannot let Failure define me.   I have a 50-year track record of failure that will undoubtedly continue for the rest of my days.  Holding onto my Faith that I am one of God’s creations is what will keep me from wallowing in Failure and ensuring that I can deliver on the mission God’s designed me for.

Deacon and Figaro both spoke of Father’s Day, reminding all pax of our status as sons of the Fatrher above.  Figaro put out some good words tying Faith and marriages together through his experience of helping a broken couple see their way back toward a path of possible reconciliation.

Thanks to Chicken Hawk, Figaro and Jekyll for posting to support the workout!

T-claps to Deacon and Bolt, who are doing an inspiring job moving F3 forward into new areas where they are called to lead.

Thanks for the invite!  It was an inspiring morning for me!

F3 Dads – The Fort 2017 Pre-Blast

  • QIC: Smuggler & Mainframe
  • When: 06/18/2017
  • Pax: All Fort PAX, FNG's & 2.0's
  • Posted In: Pre-Blast

F3 Dads is coming back to Walter Elisha Park on Saturdays in July 2017.

WHO: You and your 2.0s (boys and girls – if they can run, they can come!), and FNG’s.  This is also a great opportunity to EH other fathers that need F3, by inviting them with their 2.0’s.

WHAT: F3 Dads workouts are kid-friendly way to get some 1st and 2nd F with your F3 brothers and their 2.0’s, jack up the heart rate, sweat a little, and play some games.  Mostly it’s about sharing what we do in the gloom every week with our children, and having some fun!

Workouts are structured on the core principles of F3, modified to engage our 2.0’s.  There will be SSH’s, merkins, burpees, squats, and games like tag, sharks & minnows, 2.0 carries, and relay races!

Like every F3 workout, we will end in a COT with a prayer, so EVERYONE will need a cool F3 name.  If your 2.0’s don’t have a name already, give them one before the workout so that they can participate in the name-o-rama.

WHEN: F3 Dads will meet each Saturday in July (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, & 29th) from 10:00 – 11:00 am.

WHERE: Walter Elisha Park – Fort Mill

WHY: We have accepted the mission of F3 and have the opportunity to share our principles and leadership opportunities with our 2.0’s.  Investing time in those that we love and sharing our values with them.

Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Mainframe and Smuggler are serving as Site Q’s for 2017.  If you’re interested in Q’ing a Saturday in July, please DM @F3_Mainframe and @F3_Smuggler to sign up.

Who Invited this Guy to Q?

  • QIC: Senator Tressel and Skate or Die
  • Pax: Decibel (LIFO), Cable Guy, Smuggler, Nuke, Trucker
  • Posted In: Alcatraz

Seven men posted at Runde on a very humid, non-gloomy morning (sunrise at 5:45!). With no plans for the Hog and Coyote,  Alcatraz was an excellent alternative  for a Saturday morning beatdown.  This is what that alternative looked like today:

The Thang:

Senator Tressel on Q:

Mosey out of the park for a light jog around Mariana’s loop and back to the park.  Circle up for COP

All in cadence, double count:

SSH x 40, Merkin x 10, Windmill x 15, Slow squat x 20, 10 diamonds, 10 burpees OYO, Peter-Parker-Peter (10 R/L), Monkey Humper x 20, Morrocan Night Club x 40, Freddie Mercury x 20, 10 burpees OYO

Mosey to the playground

10 burpees OYO

10 pullups, 20 dips, 20 flutters:  rinse and repeat cycle two more times with Hello Dolly and Big Boy sit ups.

10 burpees OYO

Hand off to Skate or Die

Mosey out of the park to Windward road and line up

10 burpees OYO, then run up the hill, around the median and back (rinse and repeat)

11 burpees OYO, up the hill, around the median and back  (crowd pleaser)

Mosey toward Tega Cay drive and take a right at the steep hill on Mariana Court (oh no..)

Line up and face Mariana Drive (less steep).  Run all the way to the fire hydrant and back.

Line up at the base of the hill on Mariana Court (more steep)  One by one, sprint up the hill and back.  When one guy is running, the rest of the Pax are doing squats.

When everyone finished one trip up and back, we bearcrawled to the top of the hill and jogged back.

Line back up, one by one, sprint to the top of the hill and back.  When one guy is running, the others are alternating between Al Gores (fixed squat) and planks.

When everyone finished, jailbreak to the top of the hill and jog back to the park for COT.

NMM

Whew – that was a rough one.  The high humidity (90%) always makes for an enjoyable experience, and everyone, especially YHC, left puddles of sweat on the ground today.  Skate or Die’s hill running circuits only added to the fun.  But in his defense, he offered the Pax the choice of plan A or plan B and Decibel asked for plan C so we can blame him.

During COP, there was a lot of chatter/good-natured ribbing, between Decibel and Cable Guy.  CG could not help but notice that Decibel has gained a few pounds since the last time he saw him, and decided to call him out (CG is known for being direct).   Cable Guy is on Decibel’s Ragnar team so he has a vested interest in Decibel’s fitness.  It’s good that you have your F3 brothers to hold you accountable!    YHC could not remember laughing this much when on Q,  and actually lost count a couple times.

YHC has bringing a lot of new Q’s to Alcatraz the past few months and this week we welcomed Skate or Die.  He was a last minute sub, and despite not knowing anything about Runde, (or even that the park existed), he adapted quickly to the surroundings and found good use for many hills around the park.  Amidst the groans and gasps between the hill repeats today, YHC heard ‘who invited this guy’ more than once.

It was a pleasure to share Q-duties with Skate or Die,  and always a privilege to lead such a find group of men.  T-claps to the Pax for grinding it out today in tough conditions.   Happy Father’s Day to all the Pax!  Your kids will appreciate your ability to hang with them during their athletic endeavors, and you will set a great example for them to stay active throughout their lives.

Another beautiful Friday and 22 of us decided burning was better than fartsacking. We had an FNG so we disclaimed proper-like and then also reviewed the mission and core principles of F3. Always a good reminder for all of us… After a reasonable amount of ribbing of Gilmore and Deep Dish for having matching neon yellow shoes… (aww… so cute…) we were off…

The Thang:
Warm up:
Mosey to the lot in front of Empire Pizza
Circle up:

  • Windmills x 10
  • Imperial Walkers x 10
  • Merkins x 10
  • Weed Puller x 10
  • Squats x 15
  • SSH x 15

Mosey to the construction of the new Holiday Inn. We’re going to travel around the lot a few times. Here’s how we are getting around:
Start with 5 of an exercise at one end, run to other and do 10 of that exercise;
Run back do 15, then run and do 20, back and 25, one more time down do 30 of that exercise, run back to start. We’ll do this as many rounds as we can, as time permits. Yes. It’s as confusing and stupid as it sounds.

Here are the exercises:
Round 1: Merkins
Round 2: LBCs
Round 3: Squats

Then we moseyed over to a different lot to have someone who had never Qed before (in this case Bullwinkle) lead us in some Mary… then AYG back to COT.

NMM:
Nothing special or insightful to write on this one…

Helmet, out…

Great to be back at Footloose, and to see it growing so well! The diversity of the terrain is fantastic, and I especially like it’s proximity to a couple other Thursday AOs that can converge. T-claps to FNG Asphalt for a great first post, and to Vernon who EH’ed him.

Great work to all, and thanks to Anchorman for allowing me to Q.

The PoopDeck answers the challenge

  • QIC: Wild Thing
  • When: 06/08/2017
  • Pax: Peg, Royale, Flea, Austin Powers, Andretti (Respect), Brickhouse, Dixie Chicken, Snaphook, Short Shorts, Sparkle, Kenyan (Respect), Sugarbug, Ginzu
  • Posted In: Poopdeck

It all started with a challenge from Witch Hunt to see who would have more PAX between the PoopDeck and GrandStrand. Luckily for me the PAX and Site Q’s came through to deliver one of the best showings the PoopDeck has had. 14 PAX answered the challenge. YHC issued a quick disclaimer and we moseyed off before a quick warm up that went something like this:

-SSH x 25
-Windmill x 10
-Peter Parker x 10
-Moroccan Night Club x 10
-Mountain Climbers x 25
-Plank Jack x 10
-Imperial Walker x 10
-Merkin x 10
-Squat x 10
-Parker Peter x 10

The THANG

For our first station we completed 3 rounds of a modified Ascending/Descending Testicles. It goes like this…start in Merkin position with feet against the wall, hold for 10 seconds, move to 45 degrees for 10 seconds, then full BTTW for another 10 seconds. Repeat on the way back down. Recover into The Peoples Chair for 30 seconds. Rinse and repeat moving to 7 seconds then down to 5 seconds.

Next we moseyed to the boat ramp parking lot for some fun with a cinder block. With the theme of the month being Faith YHC encouraged the PAX to have Faith that we looked out for each other and would not make the group suffer for our own recovery. PAX circled up and took turns running with cinder block while the remaining PAX completed the exercise. We did 2 rounds cutting the run in half the second time. The exercises are as follows:

Kracken Burpees
Squat Jumps
LBC’s
Calf Raises
Carolina Dry Docks
Flutters
Merkin
Bear Crawl
American Hammer
Jump Lunges

We still had a few minutes left so we moseyed back towards COT where YHC got the opportunity to try something new with the PAX. For the remaining few minutes YHC took the PAX through a few Yoga poses to stretch out, focus, and recover.

Casting Seeds and Shovel Flag Hand-off at The Ballroom

  • QIC: Old Bay
  • When: 06/13/2017
  • Pax: Anchorman, Change Order, QuickBooks, Cotton Eye, Newman, CB, Rebel, Gopher, Pinup, Beacon, Mash, Barry Manilo, Tarantino
  • Posted In: The Ballroom

Great showing of pax on a fairly warm morning. The garbage bin in the parking lot was especially pungent, which was nice. 14 total gathered before YHC issued the disclaimer, and Quickbooks moseyed us out to a remote place for Warm-up. The exact exercises escape me, but it was something like:

– SSH
– Imperial Walkers
– Hill Billy Walkers
– Merkins
– Mountain Climbers
– and several others I can’t call.

At some point, we moseyed to another location to complete the warm up. Like a college student’s memory of the previous weekend, the details are fuzzy.

The Thang
Pax ran to one of the flat parking lots where a cone and lantern were set up, shedding light on a list of eight exercises. About 70 yards away (other side of the parking lot) another cone was placed.

Partner up, size doesn’t matter. Partner 1 was to do a moving exercise from one cone to the second, while partner 2 alternated between a pair of stationary exercises. Once partner 1 reached the second cone, he ran a loop back to the first cone. Also during this time, partner 2 started the moving exercise. Once partner 1 got back from his loop run, he started on the pair of stationary exercises until partner 2 reached the second cone. Rinse and repeat until all pairs of stationary exercises were completed.

The moving exercise was: 1 pair of lunges, 1 broad jump, 1 bombjack. Then 2 of each, then 3…and so on until the second cone was reached (most pax got to about 5-6 before they reached the second cone). The stationary exercise pairs were as follows:

-20 Plank Jacks and 20 Monkey Humpers
-10 Merkins and 10 Box Cutters
-10 Dry Docks and 10 Plank Jacks
-20 Apolo Ohno and 20 Chop Sticks

Pax next ran to the parking lot just below the launch/COT point (next to the wall) for some Crawling Dips with Crab Walks. Explanation: Lining up on the curb, all pax were to hold a dip position. First pax was to crab walk to end of line, while the rest of the pax dip-suffled (kind of a side-ways crab walk on the curb) up to toward the front of the line. We completed one rotation, and several pax modified the crab walk to bear crawls.

Pax then moved to People Chair with Jack Reachers (10 count). Quick repeat of that, then back to COT, with instruction to scale the wall to get there.

Naked Man Moleskin
Today the shovel flag for TheBallroom was handed off. Huge T-Claps to Change Order for launching and leading this very popular Tuesday AO, about 2.5 years ago. It didn’t start out as moderate, but changing it to be so a few months after it launched was a great move. Also T-Claps to CakeBoss for taking over as SiteQ (who was also involved with the launch).

During the workout, discussed the same message I gave at Run-n-Gun last week (CakeBoss was the only one to have to hear it a second time). If you read that backblast, no need to continue reading (#cutandpaste). 1 Corinthians 15 talks about “dead” seeds growing into living, renewed bodies – bodies that we won’t have any idea what will look like until that time. If we take that same concept and apply it to the seeds of Christ’s message that we cast in peoples lives, we also quickly discover that we don’t have any idea how those seeds will grow. After I accepted Christ in college, I returned home and very much wanted my two closest friends back there to have the same relationship with the Lord. I began casting seeds, with a pretty specific plan in mind of how they would grow. But they didn’t follow the path I had planned. Not even close, as a matter of fact. It was disappointing, but God had other plans. During the brief times we had together (college was far from home), I continued to cast seeds, and pray.

I believe that’s what God wants us to do: keep sharing his message and his love through our words and our deeds (casting seeds) and let him take care of the germination. In the case of my two hometown buddies, both of them are now strong followers of Christ, and I feel like I had nothing to do with it. Perhaps some of the seeds I casted helped in some small way…15 years later than I had planned, but exactly the timing God had planned!

Thanks, ChangeOrder, for allowing Quickbooks and me to Q!

PAINtheon Games 2.0 (2 Year Anniversary)

  • QIC: Zima & Anchorman
  • When: 06/14/17
  • Pax: Anchorman, Atlas, Bob the Builder, ChaChing, Copperfield, Cornhole (R), Crawdaddy, Dark Helmet, Falcon Crest, Ginsu, Greenwave, Jekyll, Lutefisk, Olaf, Senator Tressel (R), Trucker, Witch Hunt, Zima (YHC)
  • Posted In: Pantheon

The shovel flag was planted at Pantheon a little over two years ago (06/10/2015) by YHC. It’s had it’s share of horribles over these two years, but other than a Black Diamond by Jekyll prior to becoming an AO, the PAINtheon Games takes the prize. YHC even referenced that the Games pretty much resembles a Black Diamond and has #CSAUP written all over it. Tclaps to those who had the stones to come out and get after it. Even more so to those who used this as an appetizer for this weekends main event, the Hog & Coyote! Another day, another CSAUP, that’s life in The Fort!

So a couple of comments before I post the scores. It was great to see so many fresh faces come out who hadn’t experienced the games yet. Also to those who’ve grinded out the Games before and still posted (Atlas, Dark Helmet and a few others). I designed the PAINtheon Games to be a physical test where each of the exercises builds on the next and the body begins to fatigue as the Games progress. Each exercise is specifically placed in an order to cause pain and confusion (that’s why your legs feel like jello transitioning from 100 Yard Bear Crawl to a 1 Mile race). Again, everyone got after it and I am always humbled by the Pax willingness to A) let me lead them and B) do some of the crazy stuff I dream up. Here are my notes/highlights:

-Shout out to Anchorman who has faithfully helped me with every single CSAUP. Thanks brother!
-Tclaps to each of the winners (we all are) in each category
-Witch Hunt may bear crawl faster than he actually runs
-1st F leader Ginsu with his abs of steel
-Dark Helmet eats burpees for breakfast
-Senator Tressel proves once again that you get faster as you get older (Respect!)
-Olaf almost died/melted
-Truly Impressed with Trucker’s performance. If we had a pull up division he would be the standout winner.
-Was fun watching Crawdaddy and ChaChing 6″ it out (that sounds wrong)
-You’ll notice YHC didn’t participate much. I have a doctor’s note.
-Mark your calendars, we’ll do this in 6 months at The Coop. Consider it your BI-Annual Fitness Test (Thanks Atlas)
