Men,

As the new year comes in its always a good time to take inventory and check where we are with our plans in all areas. Sometimes this makes us realize we don’t even have a plan in some areas.

Just like our bodies needing a schedule and a workout in order to get better, we can’t expect our Finances to change or get better on their own. Its time to look at every dollar and make sure it has a name. Even if you think you have it all together when it comes to the money game, there is always room for improvement.

Starting in January, I Cake Boss, will be facilitating Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU). I have taken the course and facilitated it in my past and can tell you it changed my life. Again, even if you are in a good place, this is open to everyone. Men, Couples, Singles, College age or whomever needs it, so please refer others to this course.

The course is 9 weeks and about 60-90 minutes 1 night per week. It goes fast but is very full of great information. I encourage couples to attend together because if you are both on the same page it makes life easier, but is not required. Class will be at Forest Hill Church Fort Mill, but is open to everyone and not limited to church congregation. There is a cost, but again this is one time and full of valuable resources. Don’t let cost of class stop you from attending…talk to me! Please review the preview video and let me know if you have any questions.

Joe Davis Run F3 Agenda and Plan

  • QIC: Cake Boss & Pusher & Old Bay
  • When: 1/7/17
  • Pax: ALL
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

PAX,

The Joe Davis Run for Recovery is an F3 must post event as it is a great 1st F event but it is in our own backyard, The Fort, and it brings awareness to the cause!

1st F – Sign up for the Race ASAP –

2nd F – We have had 100 PAX involved in this event and families as well so the fellowship before and after the race is always memorable and makes you realize what makes F3 great

  • Post at Coffeeteria (families invited) 0900-1000 for Hot Coffee and Hot Chocolate

3rd F – Participating in this event goes beyond a good 10k time. It shows there is something more then ourselves. It shows the solid bond within F3 to support our fellow brothers. It shows that we all struggle with something but we know our brothers in the COT will always help make us better.

Any Questions let me know! Cake Boss

Five Men About Town

  • QIC: Senator Tressel
  • When: 12/01/16
  • Pax: Lil'E, Chicken hawk, Figaro, Felini
  • Posted In: Laces In

A band of five men came together on a beautiful SC morning to push their bodies once again.   Here is what they did:

The Thang:

Dynamic warm up:  Knee pulls, ankle pulls, inchworm/downward dog, arm circles and toy solders.  Mosey out of Walter Elisha Park.  Head down North White Street and stop at the Veteran’s Memorial.  We paused to honor our flag with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Circle up!

COP

SSH x 40, windmill x 15, merkin x 10, Freddie Merc x 25, Morrocan night club x 40, diamond merkin x 10, Squat x 25, mountain climber x 40

Mosey to the bottom of Massey Street.  Sprint up the hill, do 10 burpees at the top, and jog back down.  We did this three times.

Mosey back up the hill and jog to the small lot at the back of the Springs building.  Face the wall.

Do 10 wall pull ups, then go right into extended people’s chair with overhead hand claps.  Bear crawl across the parking lot and crabwalk back.  We did three sets, but skipped the bear crawl/crabwalk on the last set.

Mini Mary:  20 LBC, 10 V-ups

Head back to Walter Elisha  for COT

Moleskin

We had a strong group today, and the small number of Pax allowed us to stay close during the workout . YHC decided to avoid the grass due to last night’s rain so we left the park and hit town.  We started off at the Veteran’s Memorial,  and then found our way back to WEP by way of the Massey St hill and the infamous brick wall at the back of the Spring’s building. (one of my favorite spots at this AO) .   T-claps to Lil’E, who has dropped some lbs and picked up some serious speed. He attacked the hill sprints and left us all in his wake.   Well done!  The wall pull ups are always a crowd pleaser  It’s great strength and cardio combined into one – love ’em.     It was an excellent morning and a privilege to lead such a fine group of men.

Announcements/Prayers/Praises

Saturday, Dec 3, 6am.  Meeting at Eternal Church office to continue discussion on race relations and how F3 The Fort can initiate change.

Christmas party on Dec 17 – still plenty of tickets.

Joe Davis Run on Jan 7

Check your weekly newsletter for details.

Prayers:  brother-in-law with intestinal cancer.  We prayed for Hope.

3 Cones and The Snare to Compare

  • QIC: CSPAN
  • When: 11/30/16
  • Pax: Package, Trucker, Witch Hunt, Da Vinci, Bones, Whopper, Andretti, Mr. T, Cornerstone, Bart, Wild Thing, Vinny, Nasa, & Royale
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

Conditions were wet/no-rain and unseasonable warm at 68 degrees on the last day of November

Disclaimer

Warmup-O-Rama = all my favorites in ten counts in cadence

line up 3 cones in a “bermuda style” triangle

Divide group by ages – 1st cone = CDD, 2nd cone = LBC, 3rd Cone = Mountain Climbers and burpee broad jump between cones 2 and 3 (crowd pleaser)

Form up for quick chat about “the snare to compare”

Count off by threes

Each platoon would call their own cadence for merkins at each cone with running between cones, followed by a very wide variety of #ABLAB at each cone with running to each cone in between…started to feel like we dried the entire parking lot…with our shirts and shorts.

circle up for 3 VQ to call a round of cadence (Andretti, Whopper, and Mr.T)

Out of time

Packer/Eagles burpee score settle

COT / Prayer or Praise / BOM

Naked Man:

Today’s sermon was on comparison. David Chadwick calls it “the snare to compare”, as you start to covet others gifts/goods you devalue what God has already blessed you with. This is a time of year with parties, Christmas, and gifts when most men just feel financially overwhelmed and quickly fall into this snare. As we discussed this morning your kids see your behaviors, and if you are never satisfied with your possessions, why would you ever think your kids will enjoy a gift or present. Witch Hunt said it best this morning, that we need to enjoy the little moments in life. The details that others look past are where #HIM can find great glory and satisfaction with our relationships. This is a complicated subject, find me at the next workout to have a “real” discussion.

Be a better man today than you were yesterday,
AYE!

Back to parking lot for COT

Moleskin: Today we made sure that no man was left ALONE! Full House was having some issues and he did a very important thing, he told us! We waited for him to catch his breath and walked back to COT to with him to make sure that he made it back safely.  This is something that all QIC and PAX need to be mindful.  If you are struggling at the workout, pace yourself and tell someone if you are having troubles. QIC, keep an open eye for your PAX.  Remember that you are there to serve, not to be served.  Make sure everyone is 100% safe.

Prayers for Mark, Cha-Ching’s friend with stage 4 cancer.  Also Full House’s wife, Tonja, also with stage 4 cancer.

Pre-Blast – Laces Out @ The Fort

Join YHC for a Run-N-Gun style workout.  Start with a nice 3 mile warm up to Shutterfly and end up at the Y.  Meet at back lot and lets do a Dora 1-2-3 for about 20 minutes.  Exercises will be unpacked at time of pain disbursement. We will snake the parking lot to get .25 miles each round.  Then back to the high school for a strong 1.5 mile finish.  Goal is to get about 7 miles in with some pain stations at the Y.

It should be dry and about 50 when we launch at 0500.  See you in the gloom!

Rucking hate running with a ruck

  • QIC: Spider-Man
  • Pax: Dark Helmet, Witch-hunt, Little E, Trucker, WhatDid, Peabody, Orange Crush
  • Posted In: Golden Corral

Warm-up:

  • SSH X25
  • Merkin X10
  • Imperial Walker X10
  • Peter Parker X10

This workout was designed to get the heart rate up, allow for a break, and then rinse and repeat the whole thing.  As the PAX grumbled out during the workout, the weinke was short but distinguished.  The first step was to pick a partner to enjoy the pain with.

Lap 1:  Lap Catch me if you can

  • One partner takes off with both his ruck and his partner’s ruck (one is each hand) while the other partner completes 10 merkins and then runs to catch up with his ruck carrying partner.
  • We started at Bubbles and Bows and did the full loop of the parkting lot.  Bubbles and Bows to State Farm to the last parking isle at HT and back to Bubbles and Bows.
  • Follow up with hands on knees and heavy breathing

Lap 2:  Ruck (2X2) with pain stations

  • Ruck to State Farm
  • Bear Crawl from State Farm to the salon at the end of the building
  • Ruck to the last parking isle in front of HT
  • Overhead ruck carry back to Bubbles and Bows
  • 15 flutter kicks with a ruck press
  • 7 merkins with the ruck on (apparently these are harder of a long overhead carry)

Lap 3:  Catch me if you can

Lap 4: Ruck (2X2) without pain stations

Lap 5:  Ruck (2X2) with pain stations

Lap 6:  Catch me if you can

Meet up with the coupon carrying crew led by Jekyll at Golden Corral for COT

Superheroes invade Alcatraz

  • QIC: Aqua Man and SpiderMan
  • When: 11/26/16
  • Pax: Cornhole, Change Order, Cha Ching, Senator Tressel, Maximus, Spark Plug, Fish Sticks
  • Posted In: Alcatraz

YHC had the honor of co-Qing at one of my favorite AOs with Aqua Man. We exchanged a few text messages in planning for this one and agreed that he would take lower body and I would take upper body.  I will just say that my legs were completely smoked in less than 20 minutes.

Aqua Man led off with a mosey around the fields and headed for the hated hill. We moseyed down the hill and up the other side to a parking lot I have never visited for COP.

  • SSH X25
  • Merkin X10
  • Peter Parker X10
  • At least two other exercises that I can’t remember

We then took a mosey back to the base of the hill where the pain would ensue. The PAX partnered up to provide each person with someone to help push them.  Aqua Man called for 15 squats at the bottom of the hill and 15 jumping lunges at the top.  We completed this 4 times stopping at the top after the final ascent.  The PAX gathered on the sidewalk for some Mary.  LBCs, but the real treat were the box cutters while resting back on the forearms.  If you haven’t experienced that it takes the exercise to the next level.

It was now time for YHC to take over. We took a mosey away for the park and along the path on Tega Cay Drive.  The PAX collected at the wall next to the 9th fairway of the golf course.  We completed wall work with one PAX doing an exercise (derkin) and then taking one shuffle down the section of the wall. The next member of the PAX would follow once two reps of the wall exercise had been done.  While one the PAX moved their way down the wall any PAX either waiting to start or having completed the wall would do an exercise.

  • Derkins on the wall and burpees for the idle PAX
  • Dips on the wall and bomb jacks for the idle PAX
  • Incline merkins (two lengths of the wall) and Aqua Man’s awful version of the box cutter for the idle PAX
  • Derkins on the wall and burpees for the idle PAX

Shoulders completely useless at this point we moseyed back to the parking lot, filled the last four minutes with Mary and COT.

Announcements:

  • Christmas Party
  • Joe Davis Run – Run option and a ruck option

Prayer Requests:

  • Keep encouraging all PAX
  • Cha Ching’s M is 1 year out from losing her mother.  Prayers for the family as the season is a reminder of their loss.
  • Prayers for the law enforcement as they continue to stand on the front line.

Bear Crawl Ring of Fire

  • QIC: Bart
  • When: 11/28/16
  • Pax: Mainframe, Vinnie, DaVinci, Wild Thing, Bones, Royale, Qwerty, Tater, Puddles
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

10 Pax unwittingly posted to Quagmire for a moderate 4 day weekend following workout.  Start with the usual low impact warm ups.  Mosey to the restaurant lot, overheard special request for Balls to the Wall(ignored momentarily).  Circle up for … wait for it… Bear Crawl Ring of Fire!  Bear crawl in a circle until I decide we need a break, such break consists of plank in said circle as each Pax takes his turn with 5 merkins.  Resume bear crawl, take a “break”, merkins, resume bear crawl…you get the idea.  Once the whining became un”bear”able, split the Pax in half for Dora.  One group runs a lap, others engage in exercise.

curb derkins, merkins. low country crab, peter parker, parker peter, LBC, I think I’ve forgotten at least half of them

As with any rock star you have to give the crowd what they want, so off to the wall for a quick inverted ball-walk.  Almost time for COT but we stop a little short for the “Highway of Pain”(totally just made that up).  Bear crawl as far as you physically can, then lunge walk until you think your arms may work again and go back to bearcrawl to COT.  Prayers for injured and travelers, Royale led us out beautifully as always!

Dont Patch It, Change It…The Deep 11/19/2016

  • QIC: Rolyale & Witch Hunt
  • When: 11/19/2016
  • Pax: Whopper, Olaf, Cha-Ching, Da Vinci, Royale, Witch Hunt, Vile, Stork (FNG)
  • Posted In: The Deep

Royale and I decided to split at Q on this beautiful morning at The Deep, with me taking the first half and Royale taking the second.

Once all the Pax we assembled (kind of), I gave the disclaimer and we were off. Once we started our mosey I see a truck enter the parking lot so we need to circle back and pick up two Pax and one FNG (Gave second disclaimer just to be safe). Back to the mosey.

We moseyed across the street and circled up in front of the elementary school for some COP:

  • 25 SSHs
  • 30 Morracan NCs
  • 10 Push Back Merkins
  • 20 Beast Crawls

Then we moseyed to the cul de sac behind the school for The Thang:

I setup four cones in a square pattern approx 25 yds apart. Pax would pair up and work there way around the cones.

Cone 1: Partner A: 10 Merkins; Partner B: 15 Squats; Partner A: 20 LBCs; Both 1 Burpee
Cone 2: Partner B: 10 Merkins; Partner A: 15 Squats: Partner B: 20 LBCs; Both 2 Burpees
Cone 3: Continue pattern adding 1 burpee at each cone

The goal was to continue this pattern until we got to 16 burpees, we got close. Whopper and Cha-Ching made it to 14 Burpees before we called it for time.

Great push from all the Pax. Started easy but finished tough.

After a quick 10 count and some discussion about change, I passed it over to Royale.

We did a quick Black Snake Run over to the track for a pick your punishment. Royale gave us the option of the Merkin Mile or B.O.M.B.S. After the prior burpees, the Pax chose the Merkin Mile.

4 Laps around the track stopping at the starting line each time for 25 merkins. Not fun.

Quick ten count and moseyed back to COT, but since we still had some time left Royale graced us with the Caption Thor. 1 Big Boy Situp X 4 American Hammers all the way up to 10 X 40.

With the Pax spent, we circled up for COT.

Thanks to all the Pax for the hard work.

Until next time, its back to the hunt…
