F3 Dads in The Fort, Lake Wylie – Taking it a step further . . .

Several men have mentioned how they want their boys to be able to connect with other boys of similar mindset or stay out of trouble for the summer. We may see other men in the gloom and talk about our boys, but may not always have time to connect with other PAX and their 2.0 or may want to but just haven’t. This is an F3 Dad’s event as an F2 event. Here is an opportunity foryou . . .

Calling all PAX with 11-12 year old boys! As an Fellowship opportunity for you to connect with your son and with other Dads and sons in a similar stage of life, come to Wendy’s and hang out with us! (change of start of location from Allison Park due to weather).

Benefit: semi-controlled 11-12 year old boy hang out time, connection with PAX, a relaxing evening, and seeing your boy(s) connect with others.

Location: Wendy’s on 160/Pleasant/Sutton in front of Harris Teeter

Date: Saturday, June 8 at 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Activities:

Hanging out, socialization, games, Frosty’s, and eating if you want.

We look forward to seeing you!

Ring of Fire Edition: Pantheon

Serendipity:

/ˌserənˈdipədē/ noun
the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

Had been thinking about pulling the #RingofFire out of my bag of tricks recently and low and behold, last Friday there began some chatter about this very #TBQ beatdown style I think at Slowburn??  Zima got the credit who in turn gave me the credit who in turn admitted everything is borrowed from someone else.
Dynamic warm up of running laps with buttkickers, karaoke,  and some others.
The Thang:
Set up.  8 cones set 20 yards from the center in a circle equidistant.  Each cone has exercise on it.  Do exercise, bear crawl to center, complete 10 Cinder Block Burpees, run out to next cone.  Rinse/Repeat until made your way around circle.
  • 80 CB Burpees
  • 160 yards of bear crawls
  • 30 lunge
  • 30 plank punch
  • 15 merkin
  • 30 Mountain Climber
  • 25 Carolina Dry Dock
  • 25 X and O
  • 25 Squats
  • 25 Freddy Mercury

We finished off with  6 Minutes of Mary.  Great #smoker today.  Half shell was the man and led the whole way.  Zima and I carried the water for the #soccerarm contingent

Partner Work at the Coop

To say I was excited to lead at the Coop for the first time since since handing the Shovel Flag off to Punchlist would be an understatement.

After a brief disclaimer off we went on a mosey past the pull up bars and around the bus loop and circled up. Standard warm up with a couple things mixed in. Shoutout CSPAN for the flutter kick warmup. Also introduced the PAX to a sleeping hillbilly. Laying down on your side, just perform a hillbilly walker on one side, flap jack.

Next we partnered up for the substantive portion of the work. Starting at the bottom of the hill, we wheelbarrowed up the hill alternating after every tree, doing merkins at each tree. The blackout effect has me forgetting if it were 15 or 20.

Mosey back down the hill for a head fake by YHC. Instead of another wheelbarrow, we lunge walked up the hill stopping at each tree for 25 squats. #jellolegs

Regroup at the top for a princess tea party which consists of hand clap merkins and then a people’s chair up against your partner’s back.

A Q at the Coop isn’t complete without a trip at the pull-up bars. Hold a wall sit while each PAX does 3 pull-ups and then holds a plank. Started on the ends and wait 2 at a time. After the last one, regroup and start from the middle and each PAX does 5 knees to chest/toes to bar.

After a short mosey to COT for some abs.

Thanks for PL for the opportunity even if he was too scared to stay in town for this Q.

Laces Out – The Bear Prep Edition

4 men joined me today for an awesome 6 mile tour of some hills around Fort Mill. Why not with The Bear around the corner?

A disclaimer was given, as well as a safety check. We warmed up around the lot and we were off. Whenever Vuvu shows up, and I am the Q, I know I will be leading from the back. He put it to us on Tuesday and challenged the pace again today, although mainframe was the rabbit, as he usually is.

Great group today, albeit small. What I love about running is you never know who you will be spending time with and  getting to know better.  For me, today it was Spud. A true #HIM. We mostly talked about The Journey. What it has meant to him and what it might could mean for me. We realized there was a reason God had us running together today. I love that. All 3 Fs were hit.

Anchorman and Barry were missed.

This was the route-

left on Munn, right on Harris, right on Sutton, left on Richard’s Xing, right on Front, right on 160, right on Sutton

It is a keeper.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

RT out

SlowBurning a Ring Of Fire

Great morning for a workout!  13 pax posted (no new guys). The disclaimer was issued and we bolted out of the Chick-fil-a parking lot, Pusher style.

We ran past BP in front of Jimmy John’s for a bit of COP warm-up:

  • SSH
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Merkins
  • Windmills
  • Morning Wood, OYO

The Thang

We then ran down to the parking lot in front of Empire and found 12 cones spread out to a large ring.  Time for a burning ring of fire.  Each pax was to start at a cone, doing the exercise (and count) written on the cone.  Once done, they were to run across the middle, around the cone on the opposite side, then back to the middle and plank up for 10 seconds (the non-modified version does cinderblock burpees – yuck!).  After planking up , the pax runs to the next cone.  Rinse and repeat until all 12 cones completed.  Pax were encouraged to pair up.  YHC struggled to keep up with MOAB.  Here were the exercises, in no particular order:

  • 10 Monkey Humpers (4 count)
  • 10 Hello Dollys (4 count)
  • 7 Burpees
  • 10 Merkins (single count)
  • 10 SSH (4 count)
  • 10 Mtn. Climbers (4 count)
  • 10 Bombjacks
  • 10 LBCs(4 count)
  • 10 Plank Jacks (4 count)
  • 7 Morning Woods (turkish get-up)
  • 10 Box Cutters
  • 10 Seal Jacks (4 count)

Once completed, we moseyed to a nearby wall for a little People’s Chair:

Round 1 – one person at a time jumps out and does 2 burpees
Round 2 – Jack Reachers (10x)

We ended with Jack Webbs.  But wait!  We got to COT with 2 minutes to spare so we did a few ab exercises.

Great work by all!  Thanks to Hootie for the opportunity to lead!

Keep it spicy,
Old Bay

Kettlebell Rounds

F3 Lake Wylie remembers Badger
Cannonball – May 21, 2019

I was a bit nervous coming up with a routine at Cannonball. I had never done a ‘Q’ at a place where we use weights so I pieced together a workout that would hopefully benefit chest, arm, back, leg and ab muscles. And as always I love to run during my ‘Q.’

We had a run around New River Church and then circled up for the warm up.

Warm-Up
15 Goof Balls (IC)
15 Windmill
15 Seal Jacks (IC)
15 Mountain Climbers

Run lap

The Thang

Round 1
15 up right rows (left and right arm)
15 shoulder press (left and right arm)
20 tricep press
15 kettlebell curls (left and right arm)

Run lap

Round 2
25 kettlebell swings
30 goblet squats
15 kettlebell lunges (each leg)
15 traveling swings

Run lap

Round 3
20 merkins left arm on bell
20 merkins right arm on bell
40 chest press
20 kettlebell figure 8

Run lap

Round 4
25 kettlebell American hammers (count each side)
25 kettlebell little baby crunches
20 kettlebell sit and press
15 kettlebell v ups

Run lap

We had about 10 minutes left so I decided to do some ‘Mary’ with each Pax picking a kettlebell exercise.

Circle of Trust
Royale shared some thoughts on the celebration of Badger who passed away a year to the date. He was a big Wisconsin fan and all Pax were asked to wear red.

Aye,

Let’s Play

So in my last Q I was drunk/hungover and in this one I am currently sick.  However duty calls and myself and 12 other Pax answered the bell for this morning’s workout. After a disclaimer we moseyed around the Bowl N Bounce buildings while also doing Toy Soldiers/Bear Crawls/Crab Walks.

COP- SSHx20-Cherry Pickersx10-Mini Sun Salutations(Reach To Sky/Touch Toes/HoneyMooner/Down Dog)-Merkinsx10-Mini Sun Salutations-Plank Jackx10-LSSx10

While 1 Pax was in BTTW position and shimmied from one end of a wall to another the Pax that were waiting did Burpees.  With 13 Pax we did a lot of Burpees.  We then moseyed on over to the Habitat For Humanity parking lot.

Main Event

We played Catch Me If You Can-Partner A does 5 Burpees while Partner B Bear Crawls. Partner A then sprints and the 2 Pax switch exercise.  We did three rounds of that then another three rounds with Crab Walks instead of Bear Crawls.

We then did a DORA. 100 Lunges/200 Big Boys/300 Jump Squats.  We did not have enough time to finish so we headed back to COT.

Prayers/Announcements

Murph scheduled after Monday morning’s workout for Memorial Day.  Prayers for healing of cancer and heart disease.  Thanks Peg for opportunity to lead. Peace!

Shot Put At The Ranch

I’m a little late posting this but trying to stay off Funhouse’s naughty list. Go time arrived, disclaimer was given, and 7 of the finest PAX moseyed off behind the elementary school. Circled up for some quick warm-ups: Imperial Walkers, Windmills, Peter Parkers, Parker Peters. Partner up for a Lazy Dora:

  • P1 10 Merkins, P2 Plank Hold, flap jack until group completes 100 merkins
  • P1 20 LBCs, P2 6″ leg hold, flap jack until group completes 200 LBCs
  • P1 25 SSHs, P2 People’s Chair, flap jack until group completes 300 SSHs

Mosey to middle school parking lots. Keep same partner for jump overs. P1 holds plank while P2 jumps over and does a burpee for a total of 8 jump-over burpees, then flap jack. Run to opposite side of parking lot and repeat 6:6, 4:4, 2:2.

Bear crawl over to shot put location. I laid out 5 cones at ascending distances. The area between each cone was assigned as exercise: burpees, bombjacks, handslap merkins, partner situps and seal jacks. Each area also had a number of reps 10, 8 -> 2. The idea was for one PAX to put to determine exercise and then another PAX to put to determine number. Various forms and techniques were attempted for a mix of burpees, handslap merkins, and a lot of bombjacks. Some of the ruckers even came through and attempted to shot put.

After several rounds of that time was running short. Moseyed back to elementary lot and circled up. First round all PAX were doing lunges until it was your time to do 2 burpees. We went around the circle twice with this. Next round all PAX were holding plank until it was your time to do 2 worst-merkins (wide, regular, diamond=1). Time’s up, moseyed back to COT and met up with all the ruckers.

I tried to come up with something different with the shot put piece but ultimately it led to too much standing around in between turns. I’ll have to think about how to modify it to keep things moving. But thanks to all the PAX for trying something different and to Jiffy for the opportunity!

Hour long Q’s are hard on everyone

Had a little challenge on my hands for this one – a group of the Deep regulars including the site Q were taking on the Savage Race course, so for those who were not peer pressured into participating in that, I had to make the Saturday boot camp just as awful (minus the ice bath obstacle).

Rolled up w/ my fellow Lake Ridge guys Lutefisk, Olaf and Pothole and we waited for what I thought would be just a few guys rolling in.  This is not the case anymore – these pax roll out in numbers and we had 22 including some very brave 2.0’s in attendance all ready to work, including 1 2.0 who’s 11th birthday it was this week.  Royale gave me a heads up a couple days ago, so the workout was made with that in mind, nothing but 11’s for Pierce, aka Lancelot.

1.  For those that know me, I’m not a big fan of warm-ups,  although I may need to rethink that during hour long workouts. Our “warm-up” – mosey over to the nice 400m track across the street and do 4 laps, stopping every 100 meters to do an exercise 11 or 22 times for birthday boy.

  • lap 1 – merkins (stop 1 – 11 merkins, stop 2 – 22 merkins, stop 3 – 11 merkins, stop 4 – 11 merkins)
  • lap 2  – squat jumps (stop 1 – 11 reps, stop 2 – 22 reps, stop 3 – 11 reps, stop 4 – 11 reps)
  • lap 3  – big boy sit-ups (stop 1 – 11 reps, stop 2 – 22 reps, stop 3 – 11 reps, stop 4 – 11 reps)
  • lap 4  – yep, burpees (11 reps per stop)

2.  With the warm of 1.2 miles, 66 merkins, 66 jump squats, 66 big boys and 44 burpees complete, we moseyed back across the street and hit the baseball field…all dirt, some rocks, no grass.  Asked all 22 to count off by 2’s so we had two teams then I explained the rules.  I set the 15 minute timer, blast some old school papa roach, and you try to score as many runs as you can in the 15 min.  How to score a run?  Like this:

  • lunge walk to 1st base, then do 11 diamond merkins
  • bear crawl to 2nd base, then do 11 jump squats
  • broad jump to 3rd base, then do 11 donkey kicks
  • crab walk home, do 11 burpees, then step on home plate.  That’s 1 run.

Believe Lutefisk scored 5 runs, otherwise everyone else was hovering around 3 to 4 runs.  The intent which I totally overlooked in the heat of exhaustion was to add up both teams scores and issue a penalty to the losing team:

Loser:  burpeee bounce from home to 1st base (ie. burpee where you go down, do a push up, but explode up and forward 3 times so that you cover some ground on the uptick, then up, jump and that’s 1 burpee.  Do as many as you need to, to get to 1st base.

Winner: mack tar jais along the first base line while the the poor saps do burpee bounces.

3.  From there we hit the hills behind the baseball field for some true 11’s.  Start at the bottom of the hill with 1 “worst merkin” (wide grip merkin, reg merkin, diamond merkin = 1 worst merkin), run up and 10 knee tucks, then back down for 2 worst merkins (ie. really 6 merkins lol).  This just about killed the group.  I was very encouraged to see at about the 5 or 6 count of worst merkins that every single pax was modifying lol.  I think I even saw some Pax’s faces face down in the weedy grass we were in.

4.  We had about 5 minutes left and we were at 2.3 miles, so I really wanted that 3 mile mark.  We moseyed to the gate near COT and I told the pax about the X crunch suicide we’d do.  For those of you doing the app based ab challenge that Nasa organized, there is a “X Crunch” that absolutely sucks.  Basically start in the v-sit position, go down all the way and make an X with your arms and legs and then back up to v-sit position.

  • 5 x-crunches at the start line (basically the gate) then run to the 1st corner at the back of the school
  • Do 5 more x-crunches on corner of school and run back to start line
  • Do 5 more at the start line, as you pass 1st corner in the back of the school, do 5 more, and then when you get to the next corner do 5 more.  Then run back to the start line.

That took us to exactly an hour which was good because I think I may have gotten beat up had we kept going.  Had a great time w/ this group again (second time in a week!).  Cannot believe how much they’ve grown this place in the last year.  Props to the EH’ing machines over there and the consistency with how often they post.

Hope to get back out to the Deep a little more consistently now that my third son is no longer a little baby.  Thanks Shakespeare for the chance to lead this great group.
