We broke it again…The Brothership 10/21/2016

  • QIC: Witch Hunt
  • When: 10/21/2016
  • Pax: Corruption, Backdraft, Fishsticks, Witch Hunt
  • Posted In: Brothership

Couldn’t sleep the night before my Q at the Brothership. (Something about this AO gets my blood going. There is something to be said for an AO you know is going to give the worst beatdown of the week.) The problem I had was that the Qs before me left a very high bar in the beatdown delivery department, so I did my best to come prepared.

Corruption and Backdraft are already there when I arrive and Fishsticks was not far behind. I was expecting more but I think either Jekyl scared them last week or some were worried about the Po-Po.

5:00 a.m. hits and we are off to the deck. Backdraft and Corruption set a very brisk pace.

The Thang

We used the back left staircase to climb to the top level of the garage. My plan was to keep the workout to the back stairs and top and bottom floors to hopefully avoid getting kicked out. (IT DIDNT WORK. More on that later.)

A couple seconds of recovery on the top deck and we started:

  1. Down the Stairs to the bottom level
  2. 10 LBCs
  3. Burpee broad jump the width of the garage
  4. 10 American Hammers
  5. Jog back to stairs and climb back to the top
  6. Run lap around top of deck
  7.  R&R adding 10 to each exercise on each trip down.

The goal was to get to 100 of each exercise. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending of your pain threshold) we only made it to 50 before we got pulled over by security on a golf cart. Being we were too tired to run away, he told us we weren’t allowed on the property.

With 20 minutes left and my workout cut short, we fast moseyed back to COT and filled the time with some Mary and stretching.

I really hope we can work something out at this AO. I think the Fort region would be losing a good one. This one is worth saving.

T-Claps to Backdraft, Corruption and Fishsticks for hanging in and dealing with things being cut short. I think realistically 100 was a lofty goal. 70 would have been achievable, but we may never know.

Back to the hunt, its Witch Season…

I want to see Cake Boss in spandex

  • QIC: Birdcage
  • When: 10/21/16
  • Pax: Skate or Die, Chick Wing, Kielbasa, Geronimo, What Did
  • Posted In: Varsity

Cake Boss the title is thanks to Kielbasa. Not sure what he was thinking (jk I know exactly what he was thinking). Either way as a group we decided it took the title spot. 6 decided to take the Varsity Plunge. What goes better after a long week than a good HITS workout. I digress….

The Thang

Disclaimer by YHC, mostly accurate….we were off. Indian run lap touring NAFO. Brief circle for

10 Moroccan Night Clubs and 10 Windmills….. Yea we are warm

Mosey to parking lot for the real action. Timer set to 1 minute increments with 10 second rest. We arrived to find 10 index cards laying before us. Each card was a different level of twisted. Exercises  as follows…..Heels to Heaven, Grave Digger Right Side, Left arm high, LBC, Peter Parker, Penguin (as Kielbasa to pronounce this), Right arm high, Superman, X’s and O’s, Grave digger left side.

This completed the first round of 10 minutes. I never thought a timer count down would sounds so good until 1 minute of any of these. Decided we better take a fast lap around parking lot to stretch the core out. Stopped only for some bear crawls and inch worms. Ended hot lap with the plank from hell. Hands out 2″ farther…then farther….then farther still. 10 counts by Skate or Die and Kielbasa.

Back to the fun. Flip the cards over to find nothing good. Next series of 1 minute increments included….Mountain climbers, Mac tar Ji (I guess this is how you spell it), 6″ LBC, Freddy Mercury, V-Ups, Flutter kicks, Elbow plank, Regular plank, Parker peter, Military sit ups.

Yea YHC is an idiot. No one could move. So of coarse we sprinted to the lower lot for wall sits, bear crawls, bomb jacks. Out of time sprint back to COT.

Moleskin

There wasn’t a general theme today but I wanted to relay some struggles I am having. Guard your heart men, don’t be envious of others. Your house, job, salary, or friends don’t make who you are. You (and I) are children of the most high. Find your identity in him. How much more are we than birds that God must provide for. Let us all remember what we have. Don’t fall into the trap, the easy route, and focus on the things we don’t have. Thanks for the invite Skate or Die and thank you brothers for your support.

It started innocently

  • QIC: Mainframe
  • When: 10/21/2016
  • Pax: Cobra Kai (ruck), Cornhule (ruck), Trucker (ruck), Gecko (run), Gears (run), Boeheim (run), Crash, Puddles, Bart, Kenyan, Nasa, Smuggler, DaVinci, Vinnie
  • Posted In: The Swamp

The Swamp always has a mix of anything you want: ruck, run, or boot camp. It was another perfect morning as the PAX began gathering. Vinnie rolls in at 5:14:55 so it’s time to start. The ruckers started tightening straps and boot campers moseyed off. Apparently the runners started early since most of us didn’t realize they were around.

Mosey to behind Just Fresh for COP. Normal stuff, nothing creative.
Mosey to red balls in front of Target. I had one item left over from the Ranch yesterday so modified it some.
10 Burpees -> 20 Lunges -> 30 Mtn Climbers -> 40 Squats -> 50 SSHs -> 40 Squats -> 30 Mtn Climbers -> 20 Lunges -> 10 Burpees, running 2 balls in between each exercise.

Mosey over to patch of grass in front of Gander.
Knowing how Puddles has a weird love of Jack Webbs we do that. 1:4 up to 10:40.
Shake shoulders out while lining up for suicides. 12 segment suicide run.
Back to the patch of grass. I decided to borrow the junk yard dog from Chicken-wing. JYD is where one person army crawls under one person and then jumps over next person alternating all the way around the circle. Then when its the next PAX turn the guys planking switch. Ups go to 6 inch holds and 6 inch holds go up. So with directions semi-clear and with the best intentions we start. Again, I think Dark Helmet normally calls the Ace and Gary items. You know, the use my body as your weight but don’t look me in the eyes items. This is where it starts to go to the side. Crash and Puddles don’t seem to follow directions about crawling under the other guy. They seem to be doing some type of cat tail rubbing routine. We make it through the first round and several PAX call for a second. Always one to please the group we start round 2. I look up when Puddles is making his way past Crash and suddenly he’s on his back looking like a sweaty chap-less bull rider. After he gets bucked off we quickly finish the rest of the exercise. It’s probably safe to say that exercise will not be allowed back at the Swamp. At least not with certain PAX in attendance.

Not too much time left but we start Captain Thors. 1 big boy situp to 4 American hammers. We start with 5:20 and try to make it up to 10:40. Times up, mosey back to COT. Back at COT the runners I didn’t know were there show up.

Prayers
> We get that image of Puddles out of our heads.
> But in all seriousness, prayers for all those affected by Hurricane Matthew as well as safety for those travelling down to provide aid.

Drive thru at the Ranch

  • QIC: Mainframe

  • Posted In: The Ranch

I’ve been coming to the Ranch for a while now but this was my first opportunity to Q it so I wanted to make the most of it. 14 PAX were ready to begin so we moseyed off to find some light. We circled up in front of the middle school and were starting COP when we see a car driving around the loop towards us. The car proceeds to drive through the middle of us, cracks a window, and says something I didn’t hear and then drives off to park. It turns out to be Straight-Up who’s new to the region and a little late. Way to make an entrance! Chickenhawk ran back to get him and bring him back just as we were finishing COP.

Move over to the benches in front of the middle school for leg pyramid:
10 Burpees -> 20 Lunges using bench -> 30 Mtn Climbers -> 40 Squats -> 50 SSHs -> 40 Squats -> 30 Mtn Climbers -> 20 Lunges using bench -> 10 Burpees

Mosey to rear of middle school for some circles:
10 Merkins, rotate 90 degrees (r90d), 10 Diamond Merkins, r90d, 10 Wide-arm Merkins, r90d, 10 Carolina Dry Docks
Run a lap
20 Plank Jacks, r90d, 10 Peter Parkers, r90d, 10 Ski-hops, r90d, 10 Parker Peters

Mosey to far middle school entrance and repeat the leg pyramid sans bench.
Mosey to parking lot behind elementary school, repeat the first Merkin circle, run a lap, then everyone circle up around parking island. Plank walk half way around curb, then flip over and crab walk with hands on curb for the other half. I need to work on my directions, that wasn’t executed as smoothly as I had it in my mind. Enough time left to repeat second arm circle and then mosey back to COT. I had a third leg pyramid on the weinke but I’ll save it for Friday.

Prayers:
> Bonsai and Wapner have family members who are battling Cancer. Thankfully it sounds like both were detected early.
> Ginsu – Patience for his family as they go through the adoption process.
> Our kids, particularly those that are in the early teen years. Lots of social and peer pressures they’re going through. I think we all remember how tough this phase of life is.

Thanks again to all the PAX coming out and MI for the opportunity to Q.

Prayers for children and family.  Safe travels this weekend.  Prayers for Carbomb’s M and 2.0 on the way.  Praise for marriage and 2 years for Carbomb and his M.

Moleskin:

YHC waited in the lot until 0515 wondering how to proceed if no one showed.  Considered multiple options.  Thankful for Carbomb’s accountability and enjoyed getting to know him more in the gloom.  A true HIM.

Where the heck is everyone?  I know Tesh is on a work trip (excuses…excuses…sigh).  Great time of year to EH an FNG.  KB’s are a great way to finish out the week!

Congrats to Carbomb on his new job at CMC, 2.0 on the way and 2 years of marriage.  A lot happening in his life right now.  Praise!

Convergence at Empire Pizza next week.  This AO will meet there.

Thank you Tesh for the opportunity to Q.  Always an honor and a much needed kick in the butt to show up!

Until next time…Seacrest, OUT!

Wait…Is this a Running AO? LW Recon 10/20/2016

  • QIC: Dark Helmet & Witch Hunt
  • When: 10/20/2016
  • Pax: Kenyan (Respect), Snookie, Valley Girl, Royale, Dark Helmet, Witch Hunt
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

6 Pax showed up to our 2nd recon of this high-potential AO. We made sure to have two headlamps with us this time to avoid any more curb snipers. With great weather and great attitudes we set off to see what else this AO had to offer.

(T-CLaps to Royale for tagging all the cars in the YMCA parking lot with F3 cards prior to starting the workout.)

Dark Helmet started us with a short mosey to “The CURB” which he handled much more delicately this morning than last. Then a quick hello to the Cat Lady and we circled up behind the liquor store for our warm up.

Wind Mills IC
Cherry Pickers (or whatever they are called) IC
Mountain Climbers IC
SSH IC
Merkins IC

(Sorry dont remember the counts)

A quick mosey to the front parking lot to show off to the YMCA crowd. We did the following across the parking lot and then slow mosey back:

  • Bunny Hops
  • Broad Jumps
  • 50% Run
  • AYG Run

Then he handed it over to me for some punishment. I wanted to see as much of the AO as possible so running was on the agenda.

We started with a 1/2 mile loop through the back neighborhood of Reverse Indian Runs (Thx Pusher) with 10 merkins. We finished in the boat drop-in parking lot.

There we did some line work. One Pax would run the parking lot loop (much larger than I thought) while the rest of the Pax did the following exercises:

  • Line Hops (Forward and Back)
  • Plank Walk the line back and forth
  • Line Hops (Side to Side)
  • Side Shuffle the Line
  • Ladder (In and Out)
  • Line Hops (Forward and Back)

After two quick 10 counts we were off to see the next thing. I let the Pax decide between running the bridge or some wall exercises. To my surprise it was a near unanimous vote for the bridge (Sorry DH, majority rules). So we set off across the bridge which accounts for around a mile loop.

Once we were done with the bridge it was time to head for COT. On the way to COT we pass someone out running. T-CLaps to Dark Helmet for the EH on this one, ended up getting all his information and a HC for next Thursday.

Thanks to all the Pax for all the effort today and helping support this new AO.

It was a beautiful morning on Tuesday out at the Golden Corral. Several men started gathering and getting ready to split off into two groups. Rucking is starting to be a regular event at the GC on Tuesdays! It’s an option I usually partake in, but today I was QIC for these men. I looked around, was a little disappointed that we didn’t have an FNG…gave the disclaimer and 7 of us took off to start the workout.

The Thang
Mosey behind Harris Teeter with dynamic warm-up jog
High knees : Butt Kickers : Pull Knee to Chest : Toy Soldiers

Circle up for COP
20 SSH : 19 IW : 25 MNCs : 19 Squats : 19 Plank Jacks : 19 Seal Jacks

During COP, I look up and another guy had joined us and said “Hello Josh!” Sure enough, it was my coworker Joe, who I’ve been trying to EH for months. I sent him an email the night before and called him and left a message on his cell to say “Tomorrow is YOUR DAY” I’m the Q 3 minutes from your house…be there!

Sure enough, he showed up. He found the ruckers first, and they pointed him to us. The fact that he was wearing a bright orange shirt sealed the deal as his new F3 name will forever be “Detour”! I was happy Joe made it, for the last few warm-up items. Little did he know what was in store for the last 35 minutes!

Mosey to the front parking lot
11s
Start with 10 burpess run 40 yards move to 1 Ranger Merkin
Run back 9 burpees run back 2 Ranger Merkins until we flipped to final 1 burpee 10 Ranger Merkins
This took a good 20 minutes, and we were pretty gassed.

We used our 10 count to share our F3 names with the new FNG, and what the 5 core principals of an F3 workout are.
1. Free of charge
2. For all Men
3. Held outdoors rain or shine
4. Led in a rotating fashion by members of the PAX
5. Ends in a COT

Next Mosey in front of Burn Bootcamp (always fun to taunt)

Complete “Lt Dangers” the length of the building
(This consists of lunge-lunge-squat-merkin) picked this up from my York PAX!
Run a lap around the building
Next round: Broad jumps, then run a lap around the building

Several women from burn bootcamp came out doing their own exercises so they scared me away and we moved on…

Mosey to Fort Mill BBQ
Find some curb:
In cadence – Rocky Balboa
20 Derkins
OYO Rocky Balboa 1 minute
20 Incline Merkins

Mosey back to the flag for 5 minutes of Ab Lab
Each PAX picked an ab exercise and counted in cadence. Even Detour stepped up and counted really well on his 1st day!

The Ruckers joined back up with us for COT

Smuggler gets credit for picking “Detour” as Joe’s F3 name.

I talk about F3 to anyone that will listen. I try an explain what many of us get out of it is so much more than a workout. But you’ve all been there, not easy to tell…you must SHOW! We’re still struggling on getting the word out in Lake Wylie, and seeing Detour show up was very refreshing to me and the efforts we are trying to put in place to grow this thing. He even came to Crossroads after for a coffee and got to meet several more of the PAX. I hope he’ll come back. I’ll be making sure of it!

We roll in, they hatin, Olaf and YHC will get you wet ‘n dirty. Gonna get you wet n dirty, gonna get you wet n dirty, gonna make you crawl up hill and get you wet n dirty.

10 PAX showed up ready to get to Wet n Dirty at Laces In, WEP style. Disclaimer given by YHC.

The Thang

Warmup run up the hill to the stop sign, 5 burpees, then run back down the hill with butt kicks and toy soldiers. COP in the parking lot of all (IC):

SSH x 15
IW x 15
Windmills x 10
Hillbilly Walkers x 10
Merkins x 10
Honeymooner – 10 count
Right arm high – 10 count
left arm high – 10 count.

Mosey over to the stairway to heaven – Army Crawl, Hand Release Jack Webbs
Army Crawl to the first light pole, 1 hand release merkin, 4 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 2nd light pole, 2 hand release merkins, 8 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 3rd light pole, 3 hand release merkins, 12 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 4th light pole, 4 hand release merkins, 16 overhead claps
Army Crawl to 5th light pole, 5 hand release merkins, 20 overhead claps

Recover on our feet and hand off to Olaf.

Backwards bear crawl down the hill of the stairway. Mosey back up to get the 6.
Form 2 lines facing each other in the grass by the parking lot. Tunnel of love with a squat variation instead of a plank. Everyone goes through the tunnel twice. Mosey back up the hill to the stop sign and do some head, shoulders, knees, and toes. Mosey over to the old Springs lot (where the covered wall is located).

Once at the lot, put your feet on the curb/sidewalk and hold plank position. Going down the line, do a hip tap merkin (merkin/right hand touches right hip while coming up/merkin/left hand touches left hip while coming up). Each PAX does one and then holds plank until everyone has gone.

Circle up for ring of fire, monkey humper edition, 10 monkey humpers each while other PAX hold squat position (the mumblechatter here was amazing and highly inappropriate, probably owe some bombjacks)

Next up was some karoake, side lunges, backwards lunges, forward lunges, and then more backwards lunges. Followed by some people’s chair and Balls to the Wall. Brief talk on Mercy by Olaf before doing some plank walks back and forth on the sidewalk.

Start moseying back for COT, but Olaf realizes we still have a few minutes so we run a couple of sprints. Finish the Mosey back to WEP for COT and BOM.

Announcements – The Forging 11/19, Soccer Arms, 11-19, 3rd F Convergence 10-28, Christmas Party 12-17.

Prayers – Double D family member battling cancer, Finn’s parents and all those dealing with flooding from the Hurricane, Olaf and his M’s pregnancy.

Moleskin
1. Was great getting to Co-Q with Olaf today. Both of us tired and not 100%, but leaders often have to lead when not 100%. Olaf was in charge of marketing, YHC in charge of the BB.

2. Decided to go #oldschool today and get a little wet n dirty. Seems lately we have gotten away from this as Region. A few years ago, when I first started coming to F3, almost every workout I attended at WEP would result in YHC being covered in sweat, dirt, mud, grass, you name it. Can still remember one of my first few posts, Santini had us doing Superman with our entire body laying in the frost covered grass. Or others leading us through tunnel of love through the mud on a wet rainy day. This is where bonds with other men are built. When you have to go through the same SUCK, TOGETHER! Maybe its just me, but I don’t feel like bond is as strong when the workout doesn’t suck a little bit. Why, cuz we all remember the suck we endure together.

3. Thanks Lil E, for the chance to come and lead.

Longshanks (and Olaf)……out (mic drop).

Romans 5:3-6, 8
Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭3-6, 8‬ ESV)
Talked about how suffering is part of our Christian walk and how Christ suffered the ultimate pain on the cross for all of our sins so that we might be justified and forgiven of our sins.

Suffering happens in three categories:
1. Due to God’s discipline because of sin in our life
2. Due to persecution for standing up for God’s statutes and standards.
3. For no apparent reason (this is where the workout falls)
Remember that sufferings produces endurance that produces character, which allows God to utilize our experiences of suffering to help others through suffering when it comes into their lives.

Reminder that even though suffering was involved in the workout, that was temporary and we needed to focus on eternal things.
How do you get better at suffering?
Let go and LET GOD TAKE OVER. Submit to God and let Him handle it in His strength.
It was an honor leading these 12 strong men today and seeing all push their limits. Great job men!!! Aye!!

On a side note, as I was speaking during some of the warm up about how aweful it would be today, my words came out wrong. I was trying to convey that it wasn’t going to be fun and inadvertently said, “you have the privilege of being here today.” My words should have been “misfortune,” not privilege. I don’t ever want to convey arrogance in any way as I truly have nothing to brag about in light of who I am before Almighty God. I feel that even though I might have gotten “tongue tied” and said words that I didn’t intend to say, it really speaks to the sinful nature within my heart. It is something we all have to keep in check daily, and this morning did not come across that way. For that, I humbly ask for the apologies of all who were there today.

Thanks again for pushing through today men!! It was a honor to be able to participate in the Site Q swap with Mayhem!!

Tempo boldly went…

When you post to a running workout on a small peninsula, there’s only a number of routes that you can take unless you plan on swimming. We’ve (or maybe just me) been waiting for this connector road to be completed so Tega Cay (Tempo and Pantheon) had a little extra option to the runs and workouts. I mean, we can get to Dam Road and New Gray Rock much quicker. You could possibly pre-run to Colosseum and hitch a ride back to the peninsula. The options are limitless.

I noticed Slumlord’s route in my Strava feed the other day. His route seemed to go directly to Walmart from Pantheon. Interesting.

“Hey Slummie, does the road go all the way through?”
“Yeah, we had to walk a few areas but you can get all the way through.”

Sweet! Tempo Q Ready!

The Thang

-Depart Trailhead Park towards 160
-Pass Pantheon and make an immediate right onto the connector road
-Run on Pavement for a good .30 miles
-Run on compacted dirt for another .15 miles
-Duck under a crane, watch out for rebar
-Delicately cross bridge (not sure if the cement was dry so we let Fishsticks go first)
-Fork in the road (50-50 shot at being right)
-We go left (wrong) and keep running through the new neighborhood along 160
-Pop out on 160 and run to Dam Rd
-Make a right at Dam and then a right at Stonecrest Blvd (Hills)
-Left at Hubert Graham Way
-Continue Straight past cones and signs that so don’t go this way
-Back to the fork in the road, the bridge, the dirt, the pavement
-Left at Gold Hill
-Short jaunt back to Trailhead park

Distance: 5.2 miles
Time: 45:33 minutes
Pace: 8:46/mile
2ndF: Priceless

I was a little nervous at first. I was leading a running workout with Gears, Gekko and Fishsticks? All fast dudes. Fortunately it was an easy pace day for them (not for me). Really enjoyed scouting the connector road and appreciate the input from Gears on re-routing after I got us lost. Little know fact, YHC gets lost…a lot! Google Maps=BFF

I really enjoyed the run and the fellowship. It’s nice sometimes to have a small group where the fellowship takes the front seat. It was like that this morning. Thanks guys.
