Shady’s back…back again (@ the Yard)

  • Posted In: Millllkshake

8 high impact men came out to a nice Saturday morning moderate workout ready to encourage each other.

After the disclaimer, and some needed mumble chatter from Twister, we started out with a nice little mosey past the basketball courts with some high knees, butt kickers, shuffles, karaoke, and WWL skipping.  This was followed up with warmups including: SSH (x20), Imperial Walkers (x15), windmill (x10), monkey humpers (x15), merkins (x20), mountain climbers (x20), peter parkers (x10).

Now that the PAX were warmed up, it was time for some DORAs (plural).

DORA #1:

  • 10 jump knee to chest (followed by a mosey from starting point to other end of parking lot after each exercise)
  • 25 merkins
  • 50 regular calf raises

Since wisdom is our word of the month, DORA #2 was same as above, but modified (which was wise given our moderate themed workout and what was ahead).

DORA #2

  • 5 jump knee to chest (followed by mosey as noted above)
  • 15 merkins
  • 25 toes out calf raises

DORA #3

  • 10 leg ups (each leg) using the benches by the school (followed by a mosey run as above)
  • 30 dips
  • 50 squats

Wisdom strikes again, as DORA #4 was DORA #3 cut in half and also with a partner for encouragement.

DORA #4

  • 5 leg ups (each leg) using benches (and more running)
  • 15 dips (16 for Twister)
  • 25 squats

DORA #5 (with a new partner) – Partner A runs while Partner B does exercise until Partner A returns for relief

  • 100 team total crab cakes (started out as double count, but wisdom struck again where half way through went to single count
  • 200 Moroccan night clubs
  • 300 shoulder presses

This was the end of DORAs but then we mosey’d over to the basketball courts where a piece of paper was waiting for us titled “Bye bye shoulders”.  Here we did as a group the following.

  • 3 burpees (then 15 seconds Al Gore)
  • 5 dive bombers (then 20 monkey humpers)
  • 8 diamond merkins (then 20 calf raises)
  • 10 wide arm merkins (then 20 flutters)
  • 15 merkins (then 20 SSH)
  • 20 carolina dry docks (then two 10 count rests)
  • 25 plank jacks (then 30 seconds of Al Gore)
  • 30 mountain climbers (then 25 LBC)

Then headed back to COT for 1 min of abs.

  • 30 seconds of american hammer
  • 30 seconds of flutters

Wrapped it up with name-o-ramma, announcements, prayers and praises.  Great having everyone out this am, thx for the added encouragement and of course the Saturday morning banter and mumble chatter.

Breaking In a New Road

  • When: 03/08/17
  • Pax: Frat Boy, Shady, Fishsticks, Falcon Crest, Senator Tressel, Straight-up, Cornhole, On The Rocks, Sputnik, Old Bay
  • Posted In: Pantheon

The threat of cool rain might have kept some pax from posting, but not the 10 that descended on Pantheon this Wednesday morning. Disclaimer was issued and pax set off for a mosey on the road around the soccer field, stopping for various warm-ups, including (but not limited to):

  • SSH
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Cherry pickers
  • Windmills
  • Mount climbers
  • Peter pointers
  • Peter parkers

Pax then took to Gold Hill road for a 100 yards or so (some of which was without sidewalk) to get to the new road heading toward the Tega Cay Walmart. The first stretch of the road isa nice hill, a few hundred yards long. Cones were set up to designate the top, middle, and bottom positions for a ladder exercise. Since the road isn’t open yet, pax had the luxury of using the full width. The ladder started with 7 Crab Cakes at the bottom, and 1 Burpee at the top. For the climb, pax were to shuffle one direction until the middle set of cones, then switch and shuffle the other way until the top. The descent was just a normal run.

Once complete, pax returned to campus for a game of catch and release with a partner. Partner 1 did 10 reps of a stationary exercise, while partner did a moving exercise. Once partner 1 was done, he ran to catch partner 2, and they flap-jacked. We got through 3 rounds of this with the following exercises:

* Flutters and broad jumps
* Donkey kicks and Lunges
* Mountain climbers and bear crawls

We closed with a little mary – seniors choice of an ab exercises.

Thanks to the pax for allowing me to lead, and to Fish Sticks for scheduling me. Great pushes and encouragement by all. I look forward to next time!

Wall of Aces at Ballroom

  • Posted In: The Ballroom

12 pax gathered at the Ballroom for some fun and games (and music). YHC issued the disclaimer and we cranked out some SSH before moseying down into the business park. We turn onto the road that ends at a fence next to the car dealership for a little warm up. Being that it’s now 4 days after the workout, and I’ve Q’ed another workout since then, my memory may not be 100% on the exercises we did.

Warm-up:

  • Windmills
  • Cherry pickers
  • Hillbilly Walkers
  • Mountain climbers
  • Peter Pointers
  • Peter Parkers

Most pax were not familiar with the Peter Pointers (which is an Assassin speciality). Upon demonstration, one pax said “Are we really doing this?”. Yep, and Anchorman certainly had the best form.

Pax then moseyed to the parking lot below the infamous wall. There, we found a deck of cards and small speaker. Each pax was to take a turn flipping the top card of the shuffled deck. An exercise was done based on the card that was flipped, as per the following:

Spades – Scorpion Dry Docks
Hearts – Hello Dollies
Clubs – Monkey Humpers
Diamonds – Dips

Royalty cards were as follows:
Jacks – 5 Bomb Jacks in place
Queens – Lunges out to parking lot island
Kings – Sprint to road and jog back
Aces – Scale wall and run around

During the workout, pax jammed to enjoyed 80’s rock, a la Spotify over the speaker.

Pax did great, and it was an honor leading. Thanks to ChangeOrder for allowing me to Q!

Rain, Hills and Wisdom at the Abyss

  • QIC: Royale
  • Pax: Vinny, Flea, Mr. Rogers, Cornerstone, Snooki, Bones, Hauschka, Witch Hunt, Royale
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

9 PAX came out on a drizzly but kinda warm day to the Abyss. I pulled in and it was great to see Cornerstone and Mr. Rogers doing some pre run work. Mr. Rogers told us he’s lost 55 pounds since starting this F3 thing! I love to see guys give it their all, and it’s great to watch that change in a man. I tell all the new PAX, it took me 4 months to keep up with a full 45 minute workout, but you keep posting you’ll be there in no time! We’ve got a new member drinking the Kool-Aid of F3 so far this week. Our new Lake Wylie man “Flea” posted for the 1st time Saturday at the Deep, and since then this Wednesday at the Abyss marked 3 out of 4 days for him! That’s the kind of start I like to see. Not since Witch Hunt as a man started so fast out the gate! I’m pretty sure (excluding Sundays) Witch Hunt has posted 142 consecutive days…look it up!

The Thang

So being Flea’s 3rd day I gave the longer disclaimer and we were off.

Mosey to behind the school to the bus parking lot.

COP
20 SSHs – 15 IWs – 20 MNCs – 10 Merkins – 15 Plank Jacks – 15 L&S Squats – 10 Ab Vagotas (sic)

1st rotation

Partner Up
1 partner run 1 lap around the track while the other partner does the following exercise then switch

Dips – Pull Ups – Freddie Mercury’s – Burpees

I like Cornerstone’s variation on the burpee, more of the jump squat version, but it helped Mr. Rogers and Flea stay in motion!

Our 10 counts consisted of my version of sharing Wisdom…I don’t do it consistently at all of my Qs (something I’m working on)
The Theme of the Month makes it easy! T-Claps to our PAX that create and post the theme documents every month. I asked the PAX what the theme was this month now that we are in March and a few got it correct – WISDOM

I shared the definition of Wisdom (reference your Weekly Fort newsletter, pull up the theme document, print it out, keep it at work, live to it’s higher standard!)

Off to 2nd rotation
11s on our Abyss Hill (several groans when we stopped here, how can PAX not like to get wet??)
Top we do Merkins starting at 10
Bottom Carolina Dry Docks starting at 1
Up and down the Hill until you’ve completed the 10-1 reverse

The PAX pushed this one hard, and it was hard to tell if it was rain, sweat or tears that had us drenched…but all the men kept going until the six could finish up. I’m always impressed by the encouragement the men give each other. One of my favorite things about posing in the Fort region.

Wisdom Speech #2
I shared 3 highlighted areas of the “Make it Personal” section of the document, then shared my our personal insight (see the moleskin below)

Mosey back to parking lot by cars.
Final 4 minutes: Captain Thors
1:4 assending reps of Big boy sit up to America Hammers

We went until 6am, made it to 6 Sit ups and 24 AHs

Moleskin
At the 2nd Wisdom reading I shared a little about my current life struggles and how “Wisdom” is helping me through this time. On Tuesday, my struggling, unemployed, alcoholic father called to tell me he had been evicted from his apartment after several months of not paying the rent due to his unemployment since this summer. I’ve talked about him in COT many time’s in the past, and we pray for him regularly. A few weeks ago at the Abyss, Mr. T was on Q and he shared the famous Serenity prayer.

God grant me the
Serenity to Accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
and the Wisdom to know the difference.

That has meant a lot to me during these trials with my father. You want to “help” him. It might seem callous or dismissive, or even hateful to outsiders how I’ve treated this situation. It’s easy to give my father food, or money, or help him look for jobs, take him to his doctor for the medications he needs for depression…but none of those things truly help him improve. They just keep him surviving. For months I’ve carried the weight of trying to move him forward to be a functioning member of society, all to little success. So after countless warnings that not paying rent will get him evicted it finally happened. He’s homeless…what now? Bring him to live with me? I’ve already taken in my 16 year old niece and 13 year old nephew that need my family, there’s no room for another person. If I did, what then? Let him live the same way he has for months… being doped up on prescription pills doing nothing? Or worse, take him off those pills and he hallucinates and talks like a crazy person? Allow him to drink beers all day? The stress of that to my already overworked and overburdened wife would destroy our family. My mother is heart broken, and wants to help…but she is his “enabler” and this cycle in his life has happened countless times in the past. She would be sacrificing her own health and well-being to take him in and take on his stresses.

So with prayer we’ve come to the realization that we cannot change him, he must change himself. People do have to hit rock bottom to find that drive and motivation to get back on the path God has created for them. I pray all the time for my father to find his way in this world…and through prayer I’ve found peace that things will work out as planned, even if I don’t know what that plan is. I’ve provided my father with the homeless shelter phone number, I hope he calls it. Now at night, or in the rain, my heart sinks to know he’s out there on his own…

Work is all around us… Dredd gave us some strong words on Mammon this week and it made me think of my relationship with my work… The work I do in the world for sustenance, the work I do in my home with my Shorties, the work that I do in the Gloom with my brothers, the work that I do in my house of Faith. Against what am I measuring myself in these various aspects of work? To what standard am I holding myself? Of whom am I asking for help, and to whom am I turning for accountability? There are a lot of things we could talk about with each of those questions, but in each place there are those to whom I must turn to give an objective accounting of my work. It is the intention of the Creator to have us work, but if I work in my own echo chamber and become a law unto myself, my efforts will fail. I know it firsthand… Ask me about the last 18 months of my life sometime… When my feet need to be held to the fire at home, I have my M and my Shorties… At work I have a very sharp Ops Man and my other employees who don’t let me get in my own way… In the Gloom, I have my Shield Lock and the PAX… So today at The Poopdeck… we WORKed.

Tire Time

  • QIC: Birdcage

  • Pax: Kielbasa, Sauerkraut, Soft Pretzel, Tuck, Fire Hazard, Airhart, Waterwings, Ringer, General
  • Posted In: Uncategorized

As many of you know I try to keep things fresh and different, its kinda my thing. Cakeboss has big calves, Apache is loud, and CSPAN is old. We all kinda have a thing. So I was thinking the other day what exactly is there left to do. Tires came to mind. I have been to a few workouts where a tire was around but never a true tire workout. You Tube here I come….

I prepared for the workout, but didn’t fully prepare for the turnout. I was anticipating 4-6 and got 10. Wouldn’t have been so bad if I had 5-10 tires but I had partner exercises planed and only 4 tires. O well, adapt and overcome. Things could have been smother but I know better for the next tire workout.

The Thang

Warm ups consisted of fast lap around parking lot, 10 mountain climbers, 3*10 second 6″ hold (insert bombjacks here), 10 wall muscle ups, 10 imperial walkers, 10 wall muscle ups, fast lap back to tire station

We had 1 semi steer tire and 3 regular pickup tires. The count went until the group with the semi tire was done. Then each group rotated until we all had a crack at the big tire. Series 1: Big tire flip 30 each partner. Small tire groups did partner tire throws, partner pass tire sit ups, overhead tire presses, back to back tire passes

Series 2 : Big tire drag 150′ each partner. Small tire group did toe taps, half Turkish get ups (with a tire), side to side wood choppers (imagine making a rainbow with a tire), declined merkins, and dips.

The final set was pretty basic. We split into 2 groups while still keeping our partner. 1 team would run about 100′ carrying the semi tire then change to another team to run back with it. While everyone else waited we did merkins, Moroccan night clubs, SSH, sit ups, and squats. After all the teams ran is when we would rotate to a different exercise. Things went ok…ish until the 4th to 5th time of running with the stupid tire. Let just say it got heavy….

I want to thank the guys that came out today. Wasn’t my best organization and everyone did great with adapting as needing and staying moving. Prayers for family, friends, and wealth. After a couple 10-counts to recover, we moseyed back to the field for some Iron Hulk.

1-by-4 Merkins to Overhead Press until you get to 10-by-40. This was a shoulder burner.

With less than 10 minutes left, we did a quick mosey around the park and back to the parking lot. Then finishing the final minute with the Protractor.

I designed this workout to really push the Pax. As Lil E said, “Witch Hunt isnt going to drive 25 minutes not to deliver some pain.” T-CLaps to Cooter for pushing through this workout after being off at Mardi Gras. Thanks to Lil E for the chance to lead.

YHC started with a few thoughts for the beatdown this morning and landed on a tour of The Ranch. With that, I knew we would be keeping our heart rate up, working hard, pushing each other, and getting stronger today. There was a choice that PAX could make, hit the EASY button and stay in the fartsac, or make yourself better today which will ultimately make this type of workout EASY in the future. Think about how to keep your accountability to yourself to hit your goals, your intentions, measure your progress, achieve daily your word for 2017.

Starting to think there is no love for YHC as Q. it was 05:11 and there was only cornhole and YHC (and cornhole was asked to bring a special coupon). Deacon comes out of nowhere rucking some extra miles, and then Sasquatch and Crab cakes pull in at last second.

NAFO Ruck WO – Trucker Q: 1 40lb & 1 60lb sandbag. Ruck with coupons around parking lot until COP (14 IW, 14 squats, 20 merkins, 14 morroccan night clubs), continue ruck to intersection with ROTC bldg. Drop coupons – Bear crawl as a unit until Q says merkins, continue BC until Q says merkins, ect.. end near path. Lung walk back for coupons and ruck to Elem School to telephone poles. 20 squats, 10 merkins. Head over to the poles and grab gurney. PAX thought we were about to use a telephone pole with only us 5!! Head fake!!! Coupons on gurney and ruck to other side of school for wall sits and merkins. Sasquatch introduced us to a new wall sit – toes up – they hurt!! Ruck with gurney to pull up bars. Each PAX max pull ups w/Ruck then did squats till 6 was done. Repeat w/o ruck, then repeat w/ruck one more time. Ruck with gurney around parking lot with station stops of merkins and squats.
