EMOM Kettle Bell Blast

15 muscle men got stronger this morning with a stupid workout by YHC. We busted out about 40 minutes of straight slinging bells, with very little rest. I mean, this is a kettle bell AO, so we did kettle bell stuff… lot’s of it. Mumble chatter was light, I guess the guys were too busy oxygenating to waste breath, or I was too red-faced to hear it over my own heart beat…

After a quick confirmation that there were no FNG’s we commenced with a quick disclaimer and on to the warmup to get some blood pumping. SSH, Windmills, Imperial Walkers, Moroccan nightclubs…

Gave the guys a brief explanation, and started pumping iron! We did the following 30 exercises for 1 minute each with no rest in between besides how long it took to transition into the next exercise.

5 minute biceps

2 handed straight curls 1 minute

2 handed reverse curls 1 minute

1 hand concentration curl 30 seconds each side

1 hand Drag curl 30 seconds each side

2 handed concentration curls 1 minute

5 minute triceps

Closed tate press (lying down, elbows out to side) 1 minute (not a taint-press, Uhaul…)

Close-grip Bench press 1 minute

Skullcrushers 1 minute

Alternating Tricep kickbacks 1 minute

Overhead extension 1 minute

5 minute shoulders

Alt slicer (straight arm side to side with pass) 1 minute

Bent over rows 1 minute

Overhead press (push head through) 1 minute

Alt side raises 1 minute

Front raises 1 minute

5 minute chest

Push up one hand on bell with pass 1 minute

1 arm fly 30 seconds each arm

1 arm bench twister (palm to rear, palm to front) 30 seconds each arm

1 arm Standing upward fly 30 seconds each arm

Standing Valley press (bell crusher forward press) 1 minute

5 minute back

Power bent over row 1 minute

1 arm underhand row 30 seconds each arm

Alt Side lunge/side bend combo 45/15

Front shrug/Front raise combo 45 sec, 15 sec rest

Goblet squat/overhead press combo 45 sec, 15 sec rest

With about 90 seconds left, Polaroid led us in some flutter kicks until 0600.

Countorama, Nameorama, Announcements, Prayers/Praises

Please keep our children’s mental health in your prayers as they are being constantly bombarded with outside stresses at an unprecedented level, including strange school schedules due to covid, social distancing requirements, political pressures, news…

Thanks Uhaul for the opportunity to lead this incredible group of HIMs. I am truly blessed to be able to associate with you all. Keep accelerating!

Crazy 8’s & The world’s second longest heart charger

11 #HIM began their Tuesday at the Colosseum by choosing the DRP. Here’s what we did:

COP – Mosey to the front of the school – we circled up for a warm up – All execrises were double count and in cadence:

Imperial Walkers X12, Hillbilly Walkers X 12, Windmills X 12, 10 burprees OYO, Low slow squats X 12, hold in the people’s chair while doing 10 air presses and 10 Moroccan night clubs both in cadence.

Mosey to the flag for a pledge to honor those who serve and protect us each day.

Mosey on to the basketball courts for Crazy 8’s – Kracken burpees at one end, run to the other end of the courts for Bobby Hurleys – 7 & 1, 6 & 2, etc. etc.

LBC’s were done while the 6 came in and we then moseyed to the base of the hill for the world’s second longest heart charger.

Every other light pole had two exercises listed – one was an 8 count, one was 25 count – because it was August 25.  Every PAX did 5 burpees every time they returned to the start line.

Pole #3 – 8 merkins, 25 side straddle hops, return to the start for 5 burpees OYO

Pole #5 – repeat pole #3 exercises, then 8 diamond merkins & 25 squats, return to start

Pole #7 – repeat poles 3 & 5, then 8 werkins and 25 calf raises, return to the start

Pole #9 – repeat poles 3, 5 & 7, then 8 burpees and 25 lunges, return to the start

Pole #11 – repeat poles 3, 5, 7 & 9, then 8 kracken burpees & 25 jump squats, return to start

Sir Topham Hat and Harry Caray were kings and all got their share of hill work in. Most PAX were toward the top of the hill when YHC realized at was 0555.  Time to call for the mosey back to COT.

Announcements were given, prayers & praises were offered up.  Newsletter was encouraged to be read.

Thanks to Hardwood for the opportunity to Q.  Always great to get out with a group of #HIM and get better.

Honored,

Cyclops

We jumped the fence, but could not escape the Ring of Fire

Thirteen men were present for the workout at Alcatraz.  Four pax arrived early for a 3-mile run with pull-ups (mini bootcamp).  Geronimo came early to set up his half hour of pain.  It looked like we were in for a difficult hour.  After a quick disclaimer, YHC began with the standard warm-up exercises:

SSH x 20

Imperial Walker x 15

Windmill x 10

Plank stretch

Next, we ran across the baseball field near the pitcher’s warm-up cage to the top of the hill.  Once up the hill, we did 5 burpees…Trucker complained so we did 5 more.

Next, we ran back to the baseball field next to the restrooms.  We partnered up for a series of exercises.  Partner 1 performed an exercise on the field while Partner 2 ran across the field, jumped the fence, ran up the hill, and performed an exercise.  Flip flop once complete.

Exercises:

Round 1 – Merkins (1) , 5 bomb jacks (2)

Round 2 – LBCs (1), 10 bomb jacks (2)

Round 3 – Balls to the wall (1), Run to fence and back (2)

Round 4: Burpees (1);  5 bomb jacks (2)

Next, we jogged to the bottom of Hill. We ran up backwards to the street sign and forwards to the top.  Back down to the bottom and repeat.  Once we were at the top, we ran back out the parking lot for Geronimo’s Q.

We started at the field where there were three medicine ball.  We split into three groups behind each ball.  The first person threw the ball and did an exercise, the next person did the same. Essentially, an interval run with a heavy object.  We did three rounds of this exercise, switching the balls between the teams.  At the end of each round, the winning team got to decide the penalty exercise for the other two teams.

Next, we moseyed to the basketball court where there was a circle of cones laid out.  Each cone had an exercise written on it.  Complete the exercise, bear crawl to the middle, five burpees, and bear crawl backwards to the next cone.

Great work by everyone today!

Covid Vaccine for the Soul Coming in September… Join In

Has Covid frozen your faith Journey as Churches have closed their doors?  Or maybe Covid has you asking bigger question of God and you would like to be in a community of Men to discover the answers.  Are you interested in growing in your faith walk? Discovering a path toward an Intimate, Abiding relationship with Christ through a small group study.

Maybe you have been in the church for your entire life, the last 10 years or you are just now opening your mind to this idea of a higher power… a “Sky Q”.  Regardless of where you are in your faith walk we all have room to grow and mature in our relationship with Christ.

We are all on a faith journey and some of us are more or less equipped to take our faith deeper.  If you have a gap in any of these areas then I have a challenge for you.

  1. Do you feel that you have created a solid foundation of knowing who God is and his desire to be a part of your life?
  2. Are you in a group that is consistently seeking to grow in a relationship with God?
  3. Do you feel that you have an adequate tool kit to help you grow deeper in your faith?

In September, we will be launching into a Journey to build from the ground up a knowledge of who God is and to start to learn how to have an intimate, abiding relationship with him.  Please reach out to any of the Journey alumni to learn more and to get connected.

Accelerating via pyramids

7 #HIM braved the rain (which subsided nicely around 0515) and joined YHC at Laces In for a little of this and a little of that – partner work was done and many burpees were a part of the weinke.  Here’s what we did:

COT – Mosey to the top of the Hill at the 21 entrance to the High School.  From there, we circled up to do Low slow squats, holding to a people’s chair and doing Moroccan Night Clubs and Air Presses in cadence while in the people’s chair.  A few burpees were done in between some of the exercises which included Imperial walkers, hillbilly walkers and merkins – all in cadence and double count.  After getting warmed up, we moseyed back to the band lot for the main event – partner pyramid work.  During our trip, we passed Stang, Da Vinci and Cornerstone in the midst of their ruck.

None of the PAX present posted at golden corral for YHC’s Tuesday Q – therefore, the pyramid was new to all present.  We combined DORA, pearls on a string and pyramid work.  Partner 1 started at the 10 yard line doing 10 burpees while partner 2 ran to the opposite goal line and back.   When Partner 2 returned, partners switched off and partner 2 picked up where partner 1 left off.  Here was that pyramid:

10 yard line – 10 burpees

20 yard line – 10 burpees, 20 squats

30 yard line – 10 burpees, 20 squats, 30 merkins

40 yard line – 10 burpees, 20 squats, 30 merkins, 40 flutters

50 yard line – 10 burpees, 20 squats, 30 merkins, 40 flutters, 50 jump squats

40 yard line – 40 flutters, 30 merkins, 20 squats, 10 burpees

30 yard line – 30 merkins, 20 squats, 10 burpees

20 yard line – 20 squats, 10 burpees

10 yard line – all PAX did 10 burpees OYO but together to finish out the set

a 10 count was called and we moseyed to the benches near the gym entrance for:

10 dips double count in cadence

10 flutters double count in candence

Mosey to the base of the hill near the stadium for interval work.

PAX did 2 rounds for 90 seconds per round – A round consisted of 45 seconds of burpees and 45 seconds of lunge walks up the slope.

Mosey back to COT – for geometry class – ab work via the protractor – PAX held at varying degrees for 15-20 seconds.  2.3 miles  and 45 minutes later, 0600 was upon us.

Announcements:

Classroom Ready fundraiser – try to get to 750 notebooks by 6-30.  Message Bonsai for details.

Alcatraz and The Fort are converging at WEP on July 4 and The Fort Convergence will be at WEP on July 11 as well.  Alcatraz will be closed that day.

Read your newsletter.

Prayers were offered up for all suffering from sickness and for families.

NMM:  Remain steadfast in your beliefs and be the example your concentrica needs.  Leadership matters – and we are all called to fulfill that mission.

Thanks to Slap Shot for the opportunity to Q.

Honored to lead,

Cyclops

Heart Change to Make Change

Thank you to the 11 PAX, including YHC, who showed up at Minnow Pond on this moist humid gloom to sharpen iron and push each other. It was a blessing to be back at this AO with my brothers and facing the gloom together and not alone.

WARMUP

We began this workout by sharing the F3 Core Principles and the F3 Disclaimer. Then at 0514 Longshanks led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The warmup included the following in 5-Merkins in Cadence, 20 Jump Lunges OYO (10 Each Leg), 10 Flutters in Cadence. YHC then gave the route and plan to all and we began.

THE THANG

After this everyone was pretty much warm, we began the thing. The Prelude was to head up Main St. to the corner of Academy St. and turn Rt. The route was down Academy St., Left of Withers St., Left of Tom Hall St., Left of Main St., and Left on Academy St. until we were complete with time.

YHC asked the PAX to stop at the four corners (Fort Mill Church of God, Fort Mill Town Administration, Fort Mill Animal Hospital, and Fort Mill Police Dept. parking lots) and perform the following exercises at each location:

10 Merkins, 20 Jump Lunges (10 Each Leg), 20 Flutters (Dbl. Count), and 10 Burpees.

Then we headed back to the COT where YHC shared from the heart a little.

All men did an awesome job this morning. Great work was displayed by all. Thank you again for joining YHC and Longshanks this morning.

NMM

This past Saturday there was a discussion in the Region about the current situation we are experiencing in our country. The unfortunate thing is that this current situation is not current. It is ongoing and has been since the beginning. People are different, but the issue is the same. I am not talking about the beginning of the founding of our country. I am speaking of the day Adam & Eve decided to eat of the fruit. Since that day, man has been dead, and his heart has not been right.

Ephesians 2:4-10  ‘But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.’

Paul was speaking to the church of Ephesus and to us in the beginning of this passage concerning their state prior to salvation, and then explained their state after Christ. This passage has been resonating with YHC over the past few weeks. God has shown us mercy and given us grace through Him. And because of that we have been ‘raised up’ from the dead and seated us along with Christ at His own right hand.

What we are experiencing in our world is a display of the state of man without Christ. Without change in the heart, no change in the world can happen. Policies may be changed; reforms may occur; the world may feel different; but will it be different without the changing hearts of man? The things of this world will rust and fade away, but the things of Heaven will last forever.

My challenge to you today is to look first at your heart. Not what is around you, but what is inside you. If you are not spiritually alive, then things may appear to be changing, but they technically are not. Once you have made that heart change, you can be a part of the real change that must occur in this world. A change in the direction of where we should be heading and need to be heading. The direction of Christ.

Once you know your heart is right, then I challenge you to go out and love others as you love yourself. If you love others in this manner, you will want to serve them, and by serving them they will respect you. Show love and be blessed.

If you do not know how to make this Heart Change for yourself, please let YHC know and we can discuss further.

Uphill Times

19 Pax posted on a Yumid morning to salute Old Glory and dig deep to tackle the surrounding hills.  We were honored to welcome FNG/The Fonz (EH’d by Pusher) and a quasi-Kotter in Santini ( who has lost his excuses for not posting to any downtown FM AOs).  Longshanks led The Pledge and then the fun began.

The Thang

Hills, hills and more hills — that was the recipe for the day.

Brief warm-up in the parking lot to allow Body Wash to catch up with the pax on his late arrival — SSH, Mtn climber, Parker Peter, Merkins

Run to parking lot at WEP

Muster at bottom of hill leading to stop sign at entrance of parking lot

Run to top, do # Burpees of your choice, run back down; rinse & repeat adding # Burpees on each return to the top (UvU format — you pick initial # and increment); continue repeatedly

Muster at bottom of Stairway to Heaven

Run to light pole at top, do # Merkins (starting from last # Burpees, using same increment pattern), run back down; rinse & repeat adding # Merkins on each return to top; continue repeatedly

Run to large parking lot across from gun shop on Massey Street

Run to bottom of Massey Street; run back to top, do # Freddie Mercurys (starting from last # Merkins, using same increment pattern), run back down; rinse & repeat adding # Freddie Mercurys on each return to top; continue repeatedly

Mosey home

COT

Naked man moleskin

Thank you to Longshanks for the Q invite at Minnow Pond — great AO, great format, lively pax who all got after it today.  It was especially sweet since it was my first Q back in The Fort in 90 days.  (Apologies to a few pax I missed in the attendees — Gen X camera malfunction)

Welcome to The Fonz!  Yes, he set a new fashion standard to rival Slash’s collars.  Plus, he pushed toward the front of the pax throughout.  Great first time out….look forward to seeing you again.  And T-claps to Pusher on the EH.

Great to have Santini in The Gloom!  If you have any history with this #Redwood, then you know why it’s great to have him back.  If you don’t, then find the chance to saddle up next to him the next time you see him in the circle and ask him about origin of the Moroccan Night Club. or Stairway to Heaven or the Echochamber.

Theme for the day was hills, because they provide great training for runners.  AND, because we’re living in “uphill times” in my view (pandemic, unemployment, social distancing, racism, injustice, protests, rioting — pure chaos in the headlines).  These hills in life (short, long, steep or any combination) can be strong training ground as well.  Much has been said by many about the “silver linings” of lockdown life.  Certainly that’s been true for me and my family.  At same time,  the tough stuff, the difficulties, the adversity in life are also challenges that can build endurance, resilience, passion, vision for the road ahead.  Take some time to reflect where the tough parts of your current situation are sharpening you and your family for the journey ahead.  Don’t limit your review to just the fun, funny, joyful, positive experiences  — the darker more challenging moments can provide training benefits too.

Great to be back in The Fort!

Keep pushing!
