Capped it all off with a gorgeous sunrise and Pledge of Allegiance at COT, along with some announcements and P&Ps.

Special kudos for Clickbait for opening up his home for anyone who does not have anywhere or anyone to go celebrate the holiday with. #HIM

NMM:
7-4-1776 was a BIG day in the history of this world. Not only is it the birth of our great nation, but it was a loud exclamation to the world that freedom reigns and is worth fighting for. We exercise our freedoms every day whether we know it or not, from being able to wake up early and go work out with like-minded men, voice our opinions on whatever topic in however means, practice whatever religion or belief system we choose, or choose not to practice any type religion or belief system – all without fear of persecution. There are some people in this country who are challenging these various freedoms, not knowing that they themselves are exercising the constitutionally guaranteed right to challenge the status quo and advocate change. Many countries would severely persecute that type of vocality. Yet we as a nation allow and even foster it, for through adversity, change, and pain comes growth, wisdom, and strength.

During your various Independence Day celebrations please take time out to give thanks for the many things we have (i.e., blessings) as well as our many various freedoms, however you may define them, including – IMO most importantly – the freedom to speak up and make change happen, however large or small the magnitude, scope, and/or scale. That’s what happened on 7-4-1776, on a great scale and magnitude, and has continued since. The United States of America as a whole is never stagnant, it is always evolving. Hopefully for the better. It is by no means perfect either (what made of man is?), but it could most definitely be worse in many many ways. It is up to each one of us, exercising our various freedoms, to ensure we as a nation continue to move forward and get better in some way every day. Change happens through action, not just words. The mission behind F3 is to plant. serve, and grow small workout groups for the purpose of invigorating male community leadership. Keep at it, continue to BE the change you want to see in this world through not just your words but your actions. Give it away, for when you do YOU help facilitate positive change in others.

Have a happy and safe Independence Day. Happy Birthday America!

Thank you for the opportunity to lead. Blessed and thankful for every one of you F3 The Fort PAX that are in my life. SYITG.

Gam Guillotine Redux Part 6

Pantheon was were it all started for me on 6/26/16. F3 workout #1 was right here at Pantheon, back when it had a much stronger following because there were fewer Wednesday options. The workout I led today was the same workout presented that day, led by Jekyll. It was just as ugly today as it was back then.

Disclaimer was disclaimed, and off we went.

Nice run to Memorial Gardens and Veterans Park to gather around the flag for the Pledge of Allegiance and warmup.

COP:
15-20 of the following
SSH, WM, IW, HW, and MNC

The Thang:

Mosey to the grass field park near Trailhead park, to the trail that leads up to the dreaded power lines and Heart Attack Hill. At the end of the field is a nice little trail hill that leads up to Cascading Pines Dr. At the base of that hill is the north end turnaround. That’s the start point. Then we ran up the hill, crossed the road, and continued up to the top of the hill next to a power line. That is the south end turnaround point. Between the two is what’s known as the camelback. The hills are short, maybe 100-120yds total, but quite steep. There is a little flat area when they cross over the road, but otherwise they’re nonstop.

Part 1: 5 squats on north end, run uphill, 5 jump squat on south end, run downhill back to start. 1 round is down and back up. 5 rounds total.

Afterwards we did 3-4 mins of ablab exercises and discussed how F3 has changed me, and others, for the better in many ways, all 3 Fs.

Part 2: 5 lunges (double count) on north end, run uphill, 5 jump lunges (DC) on south end, run downhill back to start. 1 round is down and back up. 5 rounds total.

Afterwards we did another 3-4 minutes of ablab exercises and discussed the importance of each PAX paying forward what we have been blessed with, including F3.

Altogether that was 10 rounds of that hill, about 1.5 miles. Ugly.

Back to the Memorial Gardens. More exercises and ab lab.

Back for COT, announcements, P&P. Happy Birthday to The United States of America!!

Thank you for the opportunity to lead,
-NASA

Shout out to the originator, Jekyll. He started this many years ago. Each week during the month of June, he would q this workout at Laces. Pax would show each week trying to get better each week.

I have a love hate relationship with this workout.
1. First workout I posted to in the Fort (many yrs ago)
2. 2nd workout I brought Shady to. He hated me for a few days after
3. First workout I q’d after my heart attack (2 yrs ago). The one and only time I believe Pax allowed the Q to clipboard Q.

Run, ruck or crawl…we’re taking the hill

WARMUP:
– Quick warmup lap around the parking lot (slick).  YHC received immediate feedback about running at a ruck WO.  Complaints noted.
– COP:
   – LSS (IC)
   – Overhead clap (IC)
   – SSH (IC)
   – Peter Parker (IC)
Runners started rolling into the parking lot as the 4 ruckers departed for “the hill.”  Apparently the hill is useful not only for a ruck WO, but also to train for The Bear.

THE THANG:
There are many hills on the peninsula, but Heart Attack Hill is in a class all its own.  Today’s wienke was simple…out/back to summit the hill.  While in route, we stopped at 5 minute intervals to complete 10 reps of each of the following exercises:
– Merkin (ruck on)
– Overhead press
– Ruck curls
– Ruck rows
– Squats (ruck on)
For the final 100 +/- yards up the hill, PAX were not permitted to wear the rucks on their backs.  We started with an overhead carry and were permitted to front carry (no straps) to rest.  Anyone who’s been on that section of the hill will understand the balance challenge this presents as due to the incline, you’re practically nose to pavement.  Heart rates were elevated.  The highest recorded metric was Divac’s 170 BPM “recovery” reading on the descent.

2.55 miles and 7 rounds of exercises (350 total reps)

The runners remarked at the ruckers impeccable timing as we rolled into COT at 0559:45.  That could be attributed to solid planning, pure luck or more likely a little of each.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
– Q School
– FM Care Center
COT:
– Prayers for marriages

Honored for the opportunity to lead. Thanks Divac!
