It was a light crowd this morning, but nothing was light about this workout. I had one goal this morning, to prove no deck doesn’t mean you can’t get a great (hard) workout in. The three of us took off to explore the other great parts of Kingsley. At the entrance of Kingsley I gave the “remember this route speech….” from the entrance take the second right over to the other entrance, take another route. Then another right. Well you get the point we made a rectangle. Right before we got the entrance to go back up the hill is where the pain started. Lap 1: 10 Burpees, 15 Merkins, 20 squats, and 25 LBCs. Run the route and increase by 5 for each exercise. We made it to 4 before we headed back. To start working on number 5 at FMH track. I have managed to avoid Jekyell’s  board of pain, but I heard rumors this was more burpees than the BOP. Ether way it was a lot.

Totals

135 Burpees

125 Merkins

150 Squats

225 LBCs

4.38 miles total

Great work guys, this was not easy this morning. To the many guys that said #brothership was going to be the normal Friday AO…. where are you at? This is still one of the hardest workouts in FM. Don’t believe me…POST

CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!! – How’s that relate to a F3 workout???

What a week for being a baseball fan. One of the best 7 game series for a world series. It doesn’t matter if you are/aren’t a fan of the Cubs or Indians. But who isn’t a Harry Carry or Bill Murray or Eddie Vedder fan? It was an amazing ride for the Cubs to exorcises The Curse of the Billy Goat. More importantly, what a game of strategy by both coaches. As a coach to my sons coach pitch and mnior league teams, the Majors is a whole different ball game. But since the baseball season is over, there has to be a way to celebrate the Cubs win and the end of baseball till spring training. So what better way to incorprate baseball into the workout!

The Thang:
A little COP in front of Chick-Fil-A and then mossy to Empire Pizza parking lot. Circle up at the homeplate cone. Everyone performs the first inning excersise at home, then follows the direction on how to get to first base and compete the first inning excersis, then onto second base, then third, then back to home to begin the second inning, and so forth until we finish 5 innings of baseball. Each rep relates to a statistic from Game 7 (and as I didnt realize, should have found more statsistics since the game only took 15 minutes to play – and lots of Omaha’s had to occur aferwards).

Homeplate
1 inning = 7 monkey humpers for 7 Indian runs
2 inning = 2 burpees for 2 steals
3 inning = 13 left leg scorpion merkin for 13 RBIs
4 inning = 39 merkins for 39 total Cubs at-bats
5 inning = 108 LBC for 108 year drought – FINALLY OVER

Sprint to First Base
First Base
1 inning = 4 burpees for 4 errors
2 inning = 7 big boy sit ups for 7 walks
3 inning = 24 lunges for 24 total hits
4 inning = 26 flutters for 26 total OFF Players used
5 inning = 14 Carolina dry docks for 14 strikeouts

Side shuffle to Second Base

Second Base
1 inning = 8 Carolina dry docks for 8 Cub runs
2 inning = 10 squats for 10 innings
3 inning = 14 right leg scorpion merkin for 14 runners left on base
4 inning = 36 Russian twists for 36 total players played
5 inning = 40 hello dolly for 40 total Indian at-bats

Sprint to Third Base

Third Base
1 inning = 4 diamond merkins for 4 homeruns
2 inning = 10 Moroccan night clubs for 10 pitchers used
3 inning = 17 merkins for 17 players in scoring position
4 inning = 17 wide arm merkin for 17 minute delay
5 inning = 68 squats for 68 yr drought for Indians – STILL

Side shuffle to Home

So know for the second half of a no-weinke:
Circle up for 49 (3 exercises, 7 times each, 7 rounds) with no rest between:
– 7 burpees
– 7 merkins
– 7 LBCs

split into two teams for bases relay:
-Team 1 runs around the bases while Team 2 runs the opposite direction in a relay fashion (this is a fun skill we use for my coach pitch and minor league teams and is a fun competitive skill) – these PAX sure are competitive as well!

Line up along frontage road of Empire Pizza
Just as with playing defense and side shuffling to a ground ball and getting your glove down in between your legs, we ran side shuffles between cross walks, flapjacking direction, then sprinting to final crosswalk. Rinse and repeat.

20 count for wall sits

Repeat side shuffle run

Mossy to COT

As we circled up for COT, I read the statistics one last time. What a series, what a game 7. Even though I am not a huge Ohio/Cleveland fan, you had to feel that neither team should have lost. They both never gave up. That is a lesson that we PAX need to always instill in ourselves, as well as our 2.0’s, kids we coach, co-workers, marriage, faith, etc.. Giving up is not how the Sky Q intended us to live. In troubled times, and good times, prayers and accountability with our PAX and M is the only thing that will allow us to feel alive.

Read the newsletter! Yeti had been announced…..scary!

I think there’s a chance that this Clydesdale’s AO has a chance of making.  It’s really awesome to see the mix of running abilities gather together and truly optimizes what F3 is about.  The +/-2 rule was in effect considering the standard 2 ruckers count went from 27 at start to 28 at COT.

Spoke briefly about margin and areas where we are aimlessly neglecting those around us, self reflection or spending time in his word.

Had the always solid pineapple loop team.    A real testament to that this AO is all about.

I had a very elaborate running route planned but knowing how well these guys are at following directions I chose the wiser option of the standard Wal-Mart loop.

The ClydesTrails team is growing and from what I understand their pace is picking up too.

Ruckers grew from the usual two to three.

Where are you margin weaknesses?  Attending these F3 workouts is one area that you have improved your margin.  Where in your normal day to day activities can you become more diligent?

Appreciate the opportunity to lead this morning.

Cornhole Out.

When DaVinci asked me to Q the Halloween workout. I knew exactly what I was going to do.  Pulled out a favorite.  The beatdown is designed to help introduce being a Q to newer PAX.  As we took off we had all verteran Q’s so I figured this would be an easy concept to understand.  Pick a candy from the bowl, read it off, lead to PAX in performing the exercise.   Well that’s what I thought.  Some guys struggled with reading the papers and some struggled with counting.  So remedial Q school was in session.

Mosey to warm up, Mosey to the Thang.

If reps is less than 10 do ten.
Candy Cal /Gram Rank/Reps Exervcise

After a slow start and some retraining the pace picked up.  Added a running loop around the parking lot after each PAX picked and lead the exercises.  Witch Hunt was pushing hard to get through the entire bowl of candy until Bart pulled Whoppers out.  After 29 burpees he wasn’t as eager and was on a sugar high. fortunately time ran out and had to mosey back to the COT.

Was an honor to lead the PAX.  Great mumble chatter this morning.

Creating Margin to get better

  • QIC: WhatDid
  • When: 11/13/2016
  • Pax: Spider Man, Mainframe, Deacon, WhatDid (QIC)
  • Posted In: The Ranch

This morning’s Ranch Q started10 hours earlier when I began building the weinkie. The first place I went to build my weinkie was to see what this month’s theme was. To my surprise, the theme is margin. But wait, what do we mean by margin? How does that apply to life? Go check it out here.

Monthly Theme: Margin

I couldn’t answer my own questions but reading our well written and always impactful guide I reflected and it hit me. It was right in the middle of the page:

“Margin is the time that is left over after the demands of life and it can be used intentionally or it can be squandered on selfish desires. “

The way I live my life, which I suppose is similar for all of us, is very busy and filled with commitments bestowed upon us by others – I don’t mean just our family, but work commitments, personal commitments, community commitments, friend commitments and even F3 commitments. Now this is where a conflict comes in for the HIM’s of F3. We are drawn to living the 3rd – that is putting ourselves in line behind god and the community. Why do we care about margin? Why do worry about our own margin? Shoot, the question should be why do we even have margin? Shouldn’t that be time spent serving?

Well, as I continued to ponder and re-read the monthly theme, my answer was there.

“Do say no to many good things to say yes to the best things

We are pounded by many good requests and commitments. We want to do all of them but that drains our own capacity and leaves little to no margin to focus on the best things. The best things are those that only us as individuals can do most effectively (lead, give to the community, be there for our sons/daughters/wives) or also better known as our D2X.

So, as I built out my weinkie I made a commitment to focus on my margin. Building, creating, identifying capacity to use my margin intentionally and not squander it. To be an intentional father (see: A Voice That Carries: EMPOWER FATHERS TO BE POSITIVE INFLUENCES IN THEIR DAUGHTER’S LIVES ), intentional husband, intentional friend and simply to be intentional at those things I choose to do vs. those things I simply do.

My margin creation starts most days at 4:45 AM – posting with the pax is intentional and reminds me why we do what we do as HIM.

With that, my wienkie was built……

There were no FNGs and 3 of my favorite Pax to lead and we were off with an extremely brief disclaimer….
Headed down to the middle school drop off circle, which is the only lit area. We squared up (hard to make a circle with 4 pax) and began IC

25 SSH
15 Windmills
15 Imperial Walkers
10 Merkins
15 mountain climbers
20 Moroccan night clubs

Great thing about middle school off circle, besides being lit is that it has benches and about 0.25-.30 mile circle (someone fact check me). The weinke called for 2 rounds of…

15 Bench Jump ups, squat (on bench), jump down, jump backwards, burpee and repeat (mumble chatter called for a cadence count but that didn’t happen)
When done, mosey around the circle. I did say mosey, but with pax in attendance, it turned out to a mosey X10 pace.
15 IC knee tuck step ups on the benches(each leg)
Another lap around the circle
25 dips and 15 Derkins on the bench
Another lap around the circle
16 Curb Merkin Walk IC (8 to the right, 8 back to the left)
Another Lap
repeat sequence – By this time, we were feeling pretty spent due to the natural ISI each of us pushed on our pace and intensity.

Once the second round was done we headed back up to the main lot for some unconventional bear crawls.
We paired up and standing at the middle of three light poles, partner one bear crawl forward to their light poll while partner two bear crawled backwards towards the other light pole. Partner one did 15 LBCs, partner two did 10 box cutters. Mosey back to the middle light pole and then switch.

We literally ended at 6 AM and headed back to COT.

NMM
When I showed up, I almost threw the weinkie out as it was 5:12 AM and only spider man was there. I was ready to make it a 45 minute run around the country. Then rolled in Mainframe and of course, Deacon rolled in on two wheels ready to go.

The Fort is growing and we all forgot what its like to work out with just 4 pax. We liked it. We found that we pushed each other more as nobody could hide or phone it in.

Praise & Announcements
We talked about this month’s theme, margin. We all recognized how we struggle to find margin and when we do, what do we do with it. How do we make sure we’re intentional? I think we’ll find ourselves continuing to work on it.

Tuesday morning was day #2 in a row on Q. Doesn’t it always seem to work out that way? I can go months without Qing and really get the itch to lead, and then have 3 in one week! Either way, it’s always an honor to be out there with men of F3. I arrived at Trinity in York about 7 minutes before launch, and was happy to see how many PAX were already there. Some familiar faces, but I was informed we had a few FNGs and some guys that haven’t been able to post for a while. By the time we were ready to roll, 19 men were there. With FNGs I gave the long disclaimer. And we were off.

Mosey for a quarter mile, ended up in the grass over by the Hotbox
COP
25 SSHs – 20 IWs – 10 Windmills – 10 Merkins – 20 Plank Jacks – 20 LS Squats – 25 MNCs – 20 Mountain Climbers

Mosey to the parking area we call the Hotbox, I asked the PAX to remember where two signs were at the top of the hill so they know where to run to.

First Pain
Dora 1-2-3
Partner up – partner 1 does the exercise; partner 2 run up the hill to the signs and back down to partner 1. Cumulative reps.
100 Burpees
200 Carolina Dry Docks
300 Flutter Kicks

Sounds easy on paper, right? Man this one hurt. Guys were gassed, but the best line came from Joe Dirt, since Witch Hunt and I come down to York from Lake Wylie…”You Lake Wylie boys can stay up that way!” I loved it, tells me I’ve made the PAX work hard. I’m sure he loved it too…around noon…

For our 10 count, I shared a little piece around our new 3rd F theme of the month “Margin”. This one really hits home for me. When I read the theme document (read your newsletter!) I defined it to the PAX (thanks again theme docs).

I could think of 100 ways I am selfish and not using the margin of time left to me for glorifying God or spending it being a better father and husband. If you don’t think you are, ask your wife or significant other their opinion about you. I used the easy example of my football Sunday. Don’t ask me to do anything while the Packers are playing! But what’s truly more important, building memories with my family or seeing my team score a touchdown? OK OK, I’m not saying give up football… but my time surfing the web on my iPad or reading to my daughter? That I can change… be intentional with your time. Make it count! You have to ask yourself, “How can I consume LESS to give MORE?”

Back to Work, time to Mosey to the building Wall on Main Street
People’s Chair while 1 PAX bear crawls across to the other side. Keeping sitting until all PAX have bear crawled.
BTTW

I didn’t tell anyone I launched a new AO

  • QIC: Anchorman
  • When: 11/03/16
  • Pax: Barry Manilow, Kielbasa, Maximus, McGruff, Change Order, Plymouth, Culture Club, Bird Cage
  • Posted In: Footloose

This was a surprise Q.  And a surprise AO launch really.  YHC has felt like we needed a Thursday moderate option for PAX either starting out, on the mend or just looking for a touch less beatdown.  After mentioning it to a few guys on Tuesday and Wednesday, they wanted to go THIS WEEK.  So I did as I do and got it done.  Word.

Note to folks unfamiliar with ‘moderate’.  It’s a notch down from a regular workout.  Doing exercises in reps of 10 (which also forces you to do them correctly) mixed in with a 10 count here and there.   Plenty of good work happens at these every week.

The Thang:

A little run around the block thru downtown Fort Mill.  Change Order wanted to stop in for cheese fries at Hobo’s but their hours aren’t PAX hours.

Into the parking lot of St. John’s UMC for a little warm up.  SSH, IW, Moroccan night clubs and more.

Over to the wall for a quick sit session.

Down the hill to the First Baptist parking lot for a pavement tour.  Lunge halfway across, 10 LBCs, then lunge the rest of the way.  Follow that back with soccer walk/CDD, Toy Soldier/squat and hug knee/Peter Parker.

Lined up with a partner for partner suicides.  Which Maximus insisted were called homicides.  Partner 1 ran to the next line, did 10 lbcs while partner 2 did squats.  When 1 returned partner 2 then ran and did lbcs while Partner 1 did squats.  Next round you ran one additional line across the parking lot doing an exercise while your partner did something else.  All fun stuff like Carolina Dry Docks , overhead claps and more.

The stairs at the church were calling out to me, so we moseyed over for a look-see.  I thought it would be a good idea if we ran up and down and did merkins.  Someone thought we should ask permission to use the steps.  I cleared with Sky Q with a quick prayer and up we ran.  And down.  And merkined.  5-4-3-2-1.

Back over to the parking lot for more homicides, but first we had a visit with Mary.  All the standard fun ones inc American Hammers, Hello Dolly’s and the protractor.

SIDE NOTE – There are houses around the neighborhood, so we had been in semi-stealth mode.  During our round with Mary the train came thru town.  The engineer likes to use the horn.  So I think we can be louder next time.  Which means Twister can come.

We hit the curb for some Cakebosses…err…CALF RAISES.  Someone made the comment about what he would look like in spandex.  Conversation went rapidly downhill.  Shirtless, mullet, 1980s.

Back to the wall for a little sit where YHC stunned the crowd with a 10 count using only Nascar driver names.  My melon is full of useless knowledge.

COT

Great time with great PAX today.  Since we are doing this out of the Baptist church lot, the logical name for the workout seemed to be Footloose.  We are dancing all over that place.

Reminder with all this election nonsense that someone needs to be positive and be the light.  That’s us.

Til next time.

Another morning at The Poopdeck…

  • QIC: Dark Helmet
  • When: 11/03/16
  • Pax: Witch Hunt, Royale, Bonsai, Old McDonald (FNG), Austin Powers (FNG), Dark Helmet (QIC)
  • Posted In: Poopdeck

The fun never ends and the party never stops, so we get up another day and keep working.

So, I don’t know if you were aware or not but the night before this post was the WORLD FREAKING SERIES! Spoiler alert: The Cubs won and made baseball relevant again to the general public! And as exciting as that is, we lost a number to #worldserieshangover… It happens.

I pulled up to the AO and was joined by Royale, Bonsai, and Witch Hunt shortly thereafter. Then, off in the distance I see two men approaching us. I don’t recognize them, but it’s dark… Are they friends? Foes? Crossfit guys coming to tell us to get off of their turf? Could they be Cat Lady’s nephews coming to tell us to stop scaring the crap out of her in the morning when we run around the corner while she feeds cats out in back of the Chinese Restaurant? Yeah… unrelated note: remind me to NOT eat there…  Not the kind of Pu-Pu Platter you’re looking for… I promise.
Aaaaaaaaannnnnddd ADHD release in 3…2…1… So anyway, they were FNGs! EHed by a dude who came out for the first time last week! This whole “having a YMCA at the end of the strip mall and working out in front of the folks walking in” thing is gonna work out well, I think. REALLY tough to give the “I can’t get up that early” excuse if we are watching you walk into the gym at 0500… Just saying…

Well, with two FNGs, we gave a quick review of the core principles and very thorough disclaimer and moseyed off for a lap around the strip mall.

Circle up down at the YMCA end of the lot for:
Windmills x 15
IW x 15
SSH x 30
Merkins x 10
Mountain Climbers x 20
Moroccan Nightclubs x 20
Squats x 15

Mosey to the front of the Y and then burpee broad jump down to the Bowl ‘n’ Bounce (about halfway) and jog it to the end. Then we took a lap on the loop through the neighborhood behind the AO (about 1/2 mile).
From here it gets a little fuzzy because I was making it up. The original plan was to burpee broad jump the entire front of the strip mall, then take the 1/2 mile lap around and repeato until we ran out of time. That was possibly going to be the most terrible idea I may have ever had. I think that I was glad that two FNGs showed up so I had to modify… At any rate, I’ll do my best to remember and I’ll let the Pax correct me in the comments…
I think next we bear crawled halfway down the front and jogged it out. Then I remember something about crab walking and Witch Hunt doing break-dance burpees… Pretty sure he plans on doing these at the Christmas Party.
Then we went to the very end and ran the front of the mall under the overhang. One man after another ran to the low wall, jumped up and then broad jumped to the middle. That was awful. Let’s do it again!
Jog it back to the end and then repeat. Then jog it back for Partner Carries. New guys must be initiated… I have no idea what is wrong with me. I’m going to stop doing those. I’m tired of catching crap about it all the time. Just kidding, I don’t care at all. We’re going to keep doing them. Because they are really difficult. And an F3 workout is supposed to be a little difficult.
After the carries, it was time for some wall work.
I call it “Pink Floyd”:
Wall sit for a 30 count
BTTW for a 30 count then
Descending Testicles (1 merkin vertical, then 2 at 45 degrees, and 3 with feet at about 12 inches up the wall)
Repeat 3 x.

Enough is enough after that scatter brained Q, let’s go back to the cars, do 30 flutters and call it done, name some FNGs, and go home.

NMM:
I’m coming up on two years of this foolishness. I know I’m not alone in this sentiment, but it is almost laughable how much happier/better I am as a man than I was two years ago. I remember one Saturday, Dredd had come down to work out with us in Indian Land and we were doing the Gladiator Games. We happened to be standing next to each other at one point and I just felt to lean over and say thanks to him for doing all this and bringing this to us. Then he hit me with something that changed my thoughts and feelings. He said, “This isn’t mine, brother. I didn’t do this. I couldn’t come up with all this stuff and make all these things happen. This is yours.” F3 doesn’t “belong” to anyone. If Dredd won’t take credit, then no one can. Therefore, if it’s not ours, then we must GIVE IT AWAY. It belongs to everyone, so we must find all the everyones that there are and get them to free themselves.

Helmet, out. Aye!
