Tangled Mess

WARMUP: arriving late (doh) I missed the warm up and when I caught up saw some SSH like activity. I jumped in with apologies for tardiness and kicked off 10x LSS, 20x Merkin, MC & Peter Parker then some runner’s stretching. Distribute resistance bands for leg warm up exercices (not enough to go around, doh), and one-arm rows, and alternate those / jump rope. While untangling the jump ropes I believe it was @band_camp who thankfully took the lead with burpees until untangling completed, if they didn’t get in 20 they got close.
THE THANG: 3 sets of exercise scrawled on crumpled paper one on each of 3 orange cones (why cones? I have no idea, I have a very nice whiteboard collecting dust in my garage, thankfully no one asked):
1: 100 Gas Pumpers, 50 jump rope, run 1/4 mile-ish
2. 25 Hello Dollies, 25 Burpees, 50 Jump Roppe, run 1/4 mile
3. 100 Big Boys, 50 Jump Rope, run 1/4 mile
MARY: 15 H2H, 20 Rosalita, 21 LBC
ANNOUNCEMENTS: lots of 2nd F all over the area next week, a few postponed CSAUPs, too much for my small brain to retain, see slack
COT: Poppins took the lead asking each PAX to give thanks and ask for prayer requests which allowed each man to share more than we usually hear in COT including thanks for 2.0 recovering from potentially life threatening scare & prayers to bring us closer to our Ms and family through the holidays which always bring challenges

Honoring Jose Nisperos

This was my first Q at a Hero Workout. I was nervous… I asked my 2.0, Eat Mor Chikin, to read a Hero story out of the book. He chose some real bad ass Heroes, but we didn’t see any Asian Americans. I did some research and learned that out of the 3,520+ Medal of Honor recipients, 33 were Asian Americans. I decided to honor Jose Nisperos, the first Asian American to receive the Medal of Honor, who received it for his actions in the Philippine–American War.

9 showed up at the usual AO and we prepared to mosey when Dark Helmet snuck up quietly right at 0500 to move us since there were a few band buses parked there with people sleeping. Dirty Harry was all about being loud and waking them up and I had already chalked up the road with my workout, but we moved away to let the band sleep. As we ran towards the front of the school, I was happy to see General made it out. So we had a total of 11. I gave a quick disclaimer and reminded the Pax of F3’s Mission to plant, grow, serve. We started off with a mosey doing butt kicks, high knees, carioca, and NUR (backwards run).

Warm-up: SSH, Low Slow Squat, Hill Billy, Neck Roll

Plank Hold while I read to the Pax about Jose Nisperos.

The Thang: 33’s

Start with one rep of each exercise and run 0.1 mile. Increase number of reps by one, then run back 0.1 mile and continue exercises. Keep increasing reps until 33. We were on a slight incline which added to the challenge.

Exercise for time:

  • Squat
  • LBC
  • Merkin
  • Superman
  • Squat Jump

There was quite a bit of mumble chatter in the beginning with the lower reps. That soon changed after we hit the higher reps. Going back and forth gave us the opportunity to encourage each other. Loved the hand slaps and motivating words being yelled out. Dirty Harry mentioned the distance was more than 0.10 miles. Not my fault, I had it all planned out near the AO and measured perfectly. Oh well, life will always throw you a curve ball. Learn to adapt.

With 5 mins remaining, we found a wall for some arm raises and B2W. I added a twist to the B2W by making the Pax lift one foot off the wall.

COT:

Announcements: F3 Dads on Saturdays at 9am

Dirty Harry reminded us to not be complacent with ourselves and friends. It was deep, thank you.

Prayers: Keep our brothers who are unable to post in our thoughts and prayers.

It was an honor to lead such a great group of men. Chicken Hawk up next to Q on Q 6/24/19!

Encouragement at The Arsenal

The Arsenal Q 10/25 – Sorry this one is late, I was on vacation and lost track of it…

Cobbler asked me to Q at The Arsenal what feels like forever ago. I liked the idea of “crossing the borders” from The Fort to Indian Land. It also helped that this is the closest AO to my house… so there’s that. The opportunity rose and I met it. Plus it’s a very versatile AO with many options.

Rewind to 10/25:

Four PAX up for the pre-run at 5:00. Seven PAX showed up to increase their self esteem by way of “positive talk” for the main event. The clock struck 5:30 and we moseyed down to the football fields.

We stopped for COP on the practice field for a little warming up. It consisted of:

Al Gores

SSH x 29

Merkins x 10

Moroccan Night Clubs x 23

Tappy Taps x 10

During the Al Gores I asked the group what kind of leadership skills they’ve gained from being part of F3. Hilarity ensued.

“I’ve been voluntold to do everything, so I’ve learned how to voluntell people what to do really well.”

“Fire Hazard has really built up my self esteem over the years.”

“I’ve gotten really good at mumble chatter.”

This came up later… but a great technique to speed up a group if runners involved getting in front of them and dropping a bomb of sorts to “encourage” a faster pace.

So we got some good laughs, it was a good quick discussion. We finished off the COP and moseyed over to the football field.

Football Field Circuit

15 Jump Squats

End with some Jack Webs to burn the shoulders – made it to 6 Push Ups & 24 Claps

Mosey up to parking lot

Duck Duck Goose Abs x 2 (Lay in a circle and hold legs at 90°, each PAX takes turns running around the circle throwing legs down, hold at 6” until next PAX gets up).

Hillbilly walkers for obliques x 10

Pistol Crunches x 10 each leg

Overall it was a tough workout with 7 HIM answering the call. The field was wet and made for some discomfort. In the words of Geronimo… get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Thanks for the opportunity to lead and sorry about the late backblast… Disney was calling my name!

Punch List out.

“Tappy Taps? Did you make that up?”

‘Twas a glorious morning at NaFo, and 14 PAX rose to the occasion, including some from surrounding regions (Aye!). A lot of new PAX I’ve never met as well, perhaps a glimpse into how large this community really is. Had a moment to think how much of an impact this community has had on these men, and the impact it will have on many more. The clock struck 5:15 and we began.

Disclaimer to start it off, then we headed out for our warm up.

Tap-py Taps x 10 (Look it up! It’s a thing on F3Nation.)

CSPAN Send off Convergence

141 Men came to show the Respectable**CSPAN** some Respect!!

He leaves The Fort and heads north or as Dredd refers to Yankee land. Not gone forever but just up the road 600 miles to start a new chapter in life and in F3 as he will launch F3Philly.

I am not the most eloquent with my back-blasts and I am usually to the point with posting the workout, add some words and being done, however since I can’t get Italian Job to write this up and Double D challenged the PAX to think of one word to represent CSAPN, I think that is the best way to document this convergence.
