Webb-o-Rama and Snake Hops

The Golden Corral hosted 27 pax total (about a dozen ruckers, a dozen boot campers, and the rest runners) for fun and pain.  YHC can’t speak for the ruckers or runners, but here’s an account for the boot campers.

Mosey around the north side of HT and circle up in the back parking lot for COP Warm-up:

  • SSH x25
  • Mountain Climbers x20
  • IW x20
  • Windmills x10
  • Low Slow Squats x10
  • Run Stance Switch x10

Mosey between the buildings and circle around to the south side of HT to find a cone.  Partner up:

WEBB-O-RAMA
At each cone pax are to do (in cadence) 2 exercises in the spirit of Jack Webbs (1:4 ratio)

  • Cone 1
    • 1 burpee to 4 run-stance switch
      • Repeat with 2 burpees, then 3 burpees
      • >> Bear crawl to 2nd cone about 20 yards away
  • Cone 2
    • 1 big boy sit up to 4 american hammers
      • Repeat with 2, then 3 big boy sit-ups
      • partner wheelbarrow to third position
  • Cone 3
    • 1 box jump (or step up) to 4 dips
      • Repeat with 2, then 3 box jumps
      • partner wheelbarrow to fourth position
      • During the box jumps, YHC noticed Wheezer had an extra spring in his jumps for a few of the reps and then he fled his wall position for a new spot.  Seems there was a snake on the ground near where he was exercising.  Whether it was actually alive is not known.
  • Cone 4
    • Jack Webb – (1:4 ration) for 3 reps
      • Run around to cone 1

For round 2 of the cones, we did reps 4-6 at each station.

Mosey to the wall on the south side of HT parking lot for to Dora with your partner

  • Merkins – 100
  • LBCs – 200
  • Squats – 300

Back to COT

Great work by the pax.  Special welcome to FNG “Panda”, who looked like a regular out there, despite it being his first time.  It was also great seeing Cobra Kai at a boot camp!  Hopefully the ruckers won’t revoke his membership for taking a step out of the dark side.  Thanks to Decibel for scheduling me to Q.  Look forward to next time!

This was a great group this morning and I was just trying to keep up.  I’m learning the art of leading from behind.

The field was pretty wet and I think I heard a few comments about soggy shoes…

Leadership is our duty as men.  To always be leading and always present our best selves.  The majority of our leadership opportunities are given to us at times when we’re unaware we are even leading.  Be a positive light today and everyday…

Thanks Backdraft for the opportunity.

Peace,

Moleskin

They say “the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. Some of our PAX saw that first hand over the last week. As we all now know, the 12 Fort Pax set to serve in Colombia had their plans changed by Hurricane Irma. However, you won’t find them complaining and feeling sorry for themselves about the time and money they poured into this trip over the last 18 months. Rather, you’ll see a confident and faithful group of men that know that no matter what plans they make, God is in control and will put them right where he wants them to be. We all deal with disappointments and setbacks every day because of things that are out of our control. Let’s work to make sure that our attitudes are similar to what we’ve seen this week from these men. Remember Who is in charge. Keep the faith & keep moving.

Today we focused on the 12 men that are leaving tomorrow to serve in Colombia. We had the privilege of hearing the reasons why each of them have been called to serve during todays workout and then pray over them at the close. We are all lucky to have these men as our brothers and will continue to pray for them as they make their way abroad.

As mentioned in COT, each of us were blessed with passion for certain causes and influence to impact them. Find your passion and your calling and answer that call, whatever it may be.

Getting Old-School, Around The School

While YHC has posted to TheRanch a number of times, it’s been a while, and this was possibly the first time Q’ing there (according to my Evernote Weinke folder).  I arrived a bit earlier than usual to confirm a few geographic details that Google Maps and my memory were shaky on.  Already there was Straight Up, getting some stretches in, and What-Did’s empty car, as he was out for a pre-run.

Shortly after, What-Did and the rest of the pax rolled in, and at 0515 the disclaimer was given.

  • 25 SSH
  • Mosey clockwise around school, 1/4 of the way
  • Variety of warm-up exercises (in no particular order)
    • Mountain climbers
    • Butt Kickers
    • High-Knees
    • Imperial Walkers
    • Shuffle Left/Right
    • Windmills
    • Karaoke
    • Run-stance-switch squats
    • Run Backwards
    • Mountain Climbers

Found a wall for People’s chair.  Pax, one at a time, bear crawled “down the line”.
Repeat with crab-walks

Ran around back of middle school to car-rider drop-off driveway.  Found some grass for under-over railroad tracks (until we ran out of grass).

Ran around the driveway to the bottom of the hill (that leads up to the upper part of the driveway) for a Jacob’s Ladder (7) – Morning Wood at the top, Burpees at the bottom.

Continue mosey around the school to a nice piece of grass not far from the shovel flag for traditional Jack Webb (1:4 ratio, to 10).

Finish with some Mary:

  • Flutters
  • American Hammers
  • Chop-sticks

TIme’s up.  Head to COT.

Thanks to Backdraft for allowing me to Q.  I look forward to hopefully being a regular on the schedule.  Great work by all pax this morning for a pretty traditional beating.  Until next time…

13 HIM stepped onto the Pain Train YHC and Repeat were delivering in the gloom. With no FNG’s present, a quick disclaimer was given.  The thang….

Mosey over to the front of the middle school and the flag poll for COP.

  • 25 SSH IC
  • 15 Windmills IC
  • 3.5 Imperial Walker Squats IC? This was a bad idea. YHC should have practiced the cadence count on this more prior to breaking it out.  After intense mumble chatter…an audible was called
  •  15 Imperial Walker IC
  • 10 Merkins IC10 Mountain Climbers IC

Post the COP, we took advantage of the hill in the driveway.  Start on the right side of the hill….

  • 25 Merkins OYO
  • Run backwards up the hill to the center & flag poll
  • 50 LBC OYO
  • Run down the other side of the hill
  • 50 squats
  • Run backwards up the hill to the center & flag poll
  • 50 LBC OYO
  • Run down the other side of the hill
  • 20 Merkins OYO
  • **Repeat until we we’re down to 15 merks

***plan was to finish this, but I wanted to hand it over to Repeat (Bad Option)

Repeats Train

Focus was on accountability, one man holding another man accountable, and doing the exercises fully and properly. We partnered up (size didn’t matter).

  • 10 Squats
  • 10 Flutters
  • 10 Burpees

When you and your partner were done, mosey to the next light pole and repeat. When done again, mosey to the next light pole. Continue until the time ran out (felt like forever).

NMM

Not much to add here, but Backdraft did comment that by having WWL at his site that he must have a major announcement.  Maybe similar to his post 7 months ago to let us know that he was expecting his first child.  Well, no major announcement.  Mom and baby are doing well and life will change in 2 months.

Thanks for the honor to lead this fine group of HIMs.

Doing more of the things I (don’t) Love

Today I figured out a cool way to make cones really light up in the dark. Just thought I’d put that up front.

It’s been a little while since Qing at the Coop, so this was a good time. I was a little punchy after working a swing the night before, so I’m glad that all the PAX had patience with me this fine morning.

The Thang

Warm up Phase
Line up and the following for 20 or so yards
1. High knees/mosey back
2. High skips/mosey back
3. Butt kicks/mosey back
4. Toy soldiers/back mosey back
5. Power skips/back mosey back

COP
Goofballs 20xIC
Squat Imperial Walkers 10xIC
Merkin-crab dips-Merkin-crab cakes
Howling monkey ring of fire x10 each

Pull Yourself Phase
Partner up- Pull up/merkin- rotate- then Flutter kick for the six
4 Regulation Corps Pull ups/ 8 regulation merkins
4 Switch grip Pull ups/4 offset merkins 2 sets of each to get both sides
4 Close hands chin ups/8 close hands merkins (diamonds)
4 Regulation Corps Pull ups/ 8 regulation merkins

Pull Bricks Phase
Circle up at the Sugar Creek ES parking lot.
2 sets of cinderblocks attached to the big ropes
2 PAX hand over hand drag the bricks the length of the lot then backpedal pulling the bricks back to the start- hand off to the next 2 PAX
All other PAX are rotating through the following, changing whenever brick dragging PAX exchange change direction.
1. Tuck jumps-Modify to alternating lunges sometimes(SOOO many tuck jumps)
2. Tempo merkins IC
3. Hip slappers (on the curb if you are awesome, on the wall if you are crazy like Geronimo!)
4. Front- back -go Overlooked this on the Winke

NMM
I wanted to try out an idea I had this week. In my head I have a list of exercises that I like least. Today I tried to incorporate many of them (missed partner carries and backwards bearcrawl uphill, ugh!). It may or may not be surprising, I really don’t like doing pull-ups. 2 1/2 years ago, I could maybe strain out 5 in a row, followed by a good break. I don’t like slow cadence merkins. I REALLY don’t like flutter kicks. Tuck jumps and monkey humpers make my legs burn, as does the back pedal brick pull. I was introduced to the inclined hip slappers by the SOB boys, and quickly added that to my list.

All that said, I will be the first to goad the Q into calling any number of the aforementioned activities. “Why do you do this insanity?” Is probably flying through your head right now. I know if I do more pull-ups, I get better at pull ups. The same goes for all of those things things that are difficult for us. Extrapolate that a bit and apply the same idea to work. I don’t expect that I’ll ever enjoy performing ISO audits, but the more I do them, the less it sucks to do them.

Now, if we could just stop doing partner carries altogether…

Geronimo!
