The Herd at Sweep The Leg

Week 3 of Sweep The Leg was not about to be a letdown. Apparently, 24 other PAX posted to hold me accountable in ensuring they got the return on their investment, too. Gears started this AO a few weeks ago to present the PAX with an opportunity to push themselves harder and faster than currently offered at another AO, at least on a Monday. It is so easy to come out of the gates hot but the hard work is in consistency. Hard work was what we did for 40 of the 45mins this morning which concluded with some up hills and a jail break to ensure we finished as strong as we started.

Lots and lots of headlights kept rolling into the lot and as we were about to start the disclaimer, 4 more cars rolled in. So…

Cindy shows up at Slow Burn

It was nice to get out into the gloom on Friday for a mildly foggy start at slow burn.  A little pre-work at the lower parking lot set us up for a back to the basics beat down.  Shout out to Twister for inviting Cindy to join us for the morning.  We started out with the disclaimer and intro and moved on to grabbing our coupons and moseying down to our first stop.

A quick call to circle up for our warm-up that encompassed:  Side straddle hops, windmills, Moroccan night clubs, imperial walkers, hill billie walkers, and overhead claps.

Now on to the meat and potatoes of the workout with a little 4 corners and our coupons.  Each corner had 5 exercises starting with 10 reps per exercise at each corner. We did the first 2 exercises and moseyed to the next corner with Cindy.  After the first round of corners we took a lap around the building to let Cindy get some rest.  Round 2 for the remaining 3 exercises at each corner.

Somewhere in between there we had a short plug for shieldlocks and the importance of having accountability with each other.  A very important part of leadership and growth.

If you are curious the four corners and exercises are below:

  1.  Side Straddle hops, Shoulder taps, flutters, triceps and squats
  2. Mountain climbers, merkins, Big Boy sit-ups, chest press, calf raises
  3. Peter parkers, wide arm merkins, curls, monkey humpers
  4. Overhead claps, Carolina dry docks, Freddy Mercuries, overhead press, sumo squats

It was great to be out with the PAX and have to opportunity to lead.  Thanks Twister!

God

What an amazing day in the gloom! The temperature was perfect and the rainy forecast held off. Long Shanks posted this morning after a solid season of coaching basketball. Moleskin:

Freedom is a privilege and responsibility. You have the freedom to choose how you react to situations. Sometimes, we are chosen to be tested by troubling situations. Our response to those tests helps define us.

Unfortunately, we often think of the “what ifs” when the future is uncertain or bleek.  Those what ifs tend to take us down a downward spiral of negativity.

We can also respond to troubling situations with an optimistic approach of “God Is.” Yes, you are being tested with big challenges. But, hasn’t He provided for you in the past when you were stuck between a rock and a hard place? The answer is undoubtedly yes. You could not have made it out of the situations without his help.

Do not worry. God provides and protects. You will be challenged but you will also be saved. Cancel your subscriptions to the “What Ifs” and commit to understanding that “God Is” bigger and stronger than your challenges. Be encouraged in knowing that God Is.

Footloose in Fort Mill

Five men met in downtown Ft. Mill for a boot camp workout on a brisk South Carolina morning.  Here is what they did:

Warm up with some walking stretches:  knee to chest, ankle to waist, lunge twists, toy soldiers, and arm circles.  Mosey along Monroe White Street to Tom Hall and head towards Maint Street.

Circle up in the Kimbrell’s parking lot.  All in cadence:

Mosey on Main Street, take a left onto Confederate,  and assume people’s chair along the building across from the Improper Pig (take in the smell of smoked meat…)

Hold People’s chair with overhead arm claps.  Recover and then BTTW and hold until all pax did a 10 count.  Repeat this two more times.

Naked Man Moleskin

It was pretty cold this morning.  When I arrived at the church, there were a handful of cars in the lot and no one was outside.   I started stretching outside and thought the guys would come out and join me, but no takers.  No one left their car until about 5:14 and I actually had to coax Uhaul out of his car so we could start the workout.

Once we got moving,  though, everyone warmed up pretty well.  We moved through town and took advantage of the buildings, lots, and green spaces available in the area.  This was my first Q at Footloose and it was fun to explore this great AO.   Welcome back, Kotter:  I had not seen Lil’E in a long time and it turns out he’s been on an extended fartsack leave.  Good to have you back, brother and let’s keep it going.  It was a pleasure to lead the group today.  T-claps to Boss Hogg who went for a solo walk this morning, but re-joined us at precisely 6:00 on the dot.   That’s impressive timing my friend.  Anchorman and Barry Manilow finished their run and met us for COT.

Announcements, prayers, and praises:

Read  your newsletter.

Prayers for Kenyan and his family.

WOW!!! 26 for the Ballroom.  25 BCers and 1 IR’d walker.

Workout – Blast from the Past.

As if last week’s focus on 70 TV themes wasn’t enough, YHC went in for a return to the early exercon with BLIMPS.

The workout –

Brief warm up of 20 SSH, 10 Windmills and a run around the school to the far side and the “wall.”   At said wall, the PAX executed a round of wall sits whilst the PAX from each end executed two burpess and we worked our way inward.  Followed by BTW.

Afterwards we ran to the field with one lap around the track and divided into four teams at the goal line.  For the remainder of our time here we did four rounds, maybe five, of BLIMPS.  Every 10 yards the pax moved themselves by running, bear crawling, broad jumping and duck walking after the BLIMP was finished the pax ran to the opposite end zone.  What are BLIMPS?

  • Burpees 5
  • Lunges 20
  • Imperial Walkers 15
  • Merkins 20
  • Plankjack 25
  • Squats 30

What was the moleskin?  There wasn’t one . . . YHC was so taken by the 26 pax at at AO he couldn’t think.  However, if there is one it should be this – men, savor every moment with you children if you have them.  Do not complain.  It is amazing and the time is so short when they are little that you cannot comprehend it until they are older.  SAVOR IT!!
