Canon X-50 count

10 PAX gathered on a cool(ish) morning when the entire town of Fort Mill had no running water. 8 for Laces In, 2 started 15min earlier for Laces Out

Disclaimer delivered haltingly as Sugarbug exited his vehicle at 5:14 & 58 seconds to join the group.

Mosey to Band Practice Lot:

50 SSH
Downdog –> Honeymooner –> ect.
50 Moroccan Nightclubs
25 Imperial Walkers
25 Hillbilly Walkers
A bit of mumble chatter about the high count

Mosey to the lot in front of the R-Wing
50 shoulder taps
Downdog –> Honeymooner –> etc.
30 Mountain Climbers (was planning on hitting 50 but looked up after 20 and the PAX were slowing down, at 30 most were just watching me count . . . )
0 Peter Parkers (had planned 50, but wanted to avoid the tacit mutiny)

Mosey to the pullup bars

Partner up
on partner holds position while the other partner does 10 reps. Then switch until both PAX had completed 50 reps each (i.e., 100 total).
– Merkins
– Squats
– Rosalita

Revealed the two kettlebells (30lb and 35lb) I hid prior to the workout

4 Pax on the pull-up bars
4 Pax on the ground

Pax on the ground split 2 with bells and 2 holding squat

Pax with bells did 10 KB swings and switched to hold a squat.
– Pax holding squat then switched to 10 KB swings
Pax on bars free hang until during the first 10 KB Swings
– then during the next 10 KB Swings PAX attempted to hold their chin above the bar
– after other PAX complete 20 total KB Swings back to free hang
– after other PAX complete 30 total KB Swings back to chin above the bar

2 rounds of this and then flip-flopped for 2 more rounds

Plank up in a line
Hold plank while 1 PAX jumps out and does 10 KB Swings (for an individual total of 50 KB Swings). PAX waiting in plank alternated between high plank and six inches everytime someone switched to the Kettlebell.

Mosey back to COT for some Mary (Joined by 2 runners)

– Called a yoga variation and added a crunch alternating to each side of the raised leg

(e.g., 4-count: 1 to the center, 2 back down hands above head, 3 to the outside of the raised leg, 4 back down. Notice the extended heel stays six inches above the ground…I may call this again and if enough PAX hate it…consider giving it a name.
– Rolled over for some Pigeon Lunges
– back over for Flutters until time

NMM:

As men, how much are we challenging ourselves with things we don’t like or don’t understand? Physically we do this in the 5am hour with demanding workouts, but do we try this in all facets of our lives? Consider taking in some art (play, movie, music, museum, etc.) you just don’t understand or trying to interact with something (someone?) you really don’t like.

The piece below by Conlon Nancarrow predates “electronic music.” He used a player piano reel to realize music that was so rhythmically complex, no human players at the time could accomplish it. In Canon X, there are two lines. One starts at a slow tempo and speeds up. The other starts fast and slows down. (So a graph of the tempos looks like an X.) This is a tempo canon rather than a traditional melodic canon. (Row, Row, Row Your Boat is a melodic canon.)

Canon X

This kind of composition may or not may be “enjoyable” to listen to. Or you might not “like” it. But it is fascinating. We don’t have to like something for it to be interesting or valuable.

40+ years after these pieces were written, a small ensemble began stretching what we once thought human musicians were capable of performing. They arranged some of Nancarrow’s player piano reels in an acoustic setting. See the original and the arrangement:

Nancarrow – Player Piano Study No. 2A
Alarm Will Sound – Nancarrow Player Piano Study No. 2A

I don’t know what this means for you in specific. But in general, I hope it encourages you to stretch your boundaries and grow. Because that’s part of what the Arts should help us do!

COT
Praise for the fact that most days we can turn on the taps and clean water comes out.

An honor to lead,

Moving about frequently and getting better

A little of this and a little of that took place on an early “coolish” September morning at #lacesin and #lacesout.   YHC had to call his own number to fill in for an injured PAX.  So a weinke was constructed and a total of 10 gathered to get better – 3 to run and 7 for boot camp.  After the disclaimers were announced and the assumption of risk was delegated, PAX took a Pledge of Allegiance to honor those who serve us and day in and day out and then we were off for a mosey to……

COP – 4 corners (and without side straddle hops no less!) – various exercises at each lightpole – 12 was the double count per exercise

  1. Low Slow Squats & Imperial Walkers
  2. Merkins & Mountain Climbers
  3. Windmills (for Trucker) & People’s chair held while doing Moroccan Night Clubs
  4. 12 Burpees – just because

Mosey to the wall by the high school entrance for:

  1. BTTW while each PAX bear crawled to the end of the line
  2. People’s Chair Held while each PAX did 5 burpees (the FNG did not splash merlot)

Mosey to the high school entrance for Partner Dora 1-2-3: One runs the bus loop and the other does:

  1. Burpees (100) – Some modified to Merkins
  2. Squats (200)
  3. LBC’s (300)

On the benches, PAX did 12 D/C dips I/C and D/C step ups I/C

Mosey to the band lot for 100 yards of Lunge Walks and Bear Crawls – Lunge 20, Bear Crawl 20, Lunge 20, Bear Crawl 20, Lunge 20.  Mumble chatter was encouraged down the field.

Mosey to the Hive lot for F & F – Freddy’s x 12 I/C and Flutters x 12 I/C

Mosey through the Hive lot to the opposite corner for Hello Dolly’s x 12 I/C and Rosalitas X 12 I/C

Hustle to COT for last little bit of ab work (PAX watches were conveniently ahead of YHC’s) so we wrapped up with 13 D/C American Hammers I/C – just to do something more than 12 times.  Then it was 0600.

COT was held and we welcomed FNG Bottlebot to the PAX.

Announcements were made – read your newsletter

Prayers were lifted up for those recovering from a fall, going in for testing, dealing with sickness and dealing with a recent cancer diagnosis.  Praise was offered for those giving care to all those in need and those who will help restore their healing and paths forward.

Honored to serve,

Cyclops

Mountain trip to Dupont State Forest on August 3rd with Trail Running, Rucking and Biking options – there will be a 2nd F afterwords

3rd F

Alright we are 2 years ago we did a mountain trip to Roan Mtn. it was one of the best trips I have made with my fellow F3 brothers. After 10-16 miles we went to Daniel Boone Inn to refuel.

With this in mind I wanted to continue to do this hopefully every year. So on August 3rd we are going to do another mountain trip. This time it will be Trail Running, Biking and Rucking options.

Our destination will be DuPont State Forest. We will leave from the Newport Walmart at 6 am it is a 2 1/2 hr trip. we will either go to the Hooker Falls Access or the Lake Imaging Access. For runners we will try and get 12-18 miles in for Mountain bikers Vuvuzela has about 20-30 mile rout lined up.

2nd F

Afterwords will will go to Daddy D’s and refuel.

Make sure you bring water and something for energy do not come unprepared you will regret it. I did exactly that last time. This will be an unforgettable trip that we will try and do every year. we need to clown car to get there since there are no rental vans available.

Reach out to me if you have any questions.  I have attached links below.

Moleskin:

On this glorious day, we followed our own advice of not “going it alone.” So we decided to lock shields to celebrate the 40th birthday of two Geminis that were born two days apart. We are humbled and honored by the love and support of our F3 brothers for our birthday bash. We can’t thank you enough.

As we turn 40 years old, we understand that we are progressing into the next season of life. Age 0 to 20 is the spring season where we identify who we are. Age 20 to 40 is the summer season where we learn and grow. Age 40 to 60 is the fall season where we influence others. Age 60+ is the winter season where we share wisdom with others.

What season of life are you in? Own it. Celebrate life and your season daily.

Peace,

Deacon & Shady

Laces Out – The Bear Prep Edition

4 men joined me today for an awesome 6 mile tour of some hills around Fort Mill. Why not with The Bear around the corner?

A disclaimer was given, as well as a safety check. We warmed up around the lot and we were off. Whenever Vuvu shows up, and I am the Q, I know I will be leading from the back. He put it to us on Tuesday and challenged the pace again today, although mainframe was the rabbit, as he usually is.

Great group today, albeit small. What I love about running is you never know who you will be spending time with and  getting to know better.  For me, today it was Spud. A true #HIM. We mostly talked about The Journey. What it has meant to him and what it might could mean for me. We realized there was a reason God had us running together today. I love that. All 3 Fs were hit.

Anchorman and Barry were missed.

This was the route-

left on Munn, right on Harris, right on Sutton, left on Richard’s Xing, right on Front, right on 160, right on Sutton

It is a keeper.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead.

Track Magic at Laces Out

You put out one promotional tweet that pokes a little fun at our southern racing heritage and its crickets.  Well not actual crickets but lets just say that a tweet I put out highlighting #HIM Cornerstone went viral.  Lesson learned…I have to help other people with humor deficiencies.

5 posted- not sure it was Dungaree in full sweats and toboggan cold, but there indeed was a chill.  Disclaimed and off we went.

3 laps of mosey warm ups then a round robin of stretching exercises.

The Thang:

Ladder Speed work

  • Run 1 lap (400m) at 5k pace; run 1 recovery lap
  • Run 2 lap (800m) at 5k pace; run 1 recovery lap
  • Run 3 lap (1200m) at 5k pace; run 1 recovery lap
  • Run 4 lap (1600m) at 5k pace, run 1 recovery lap
  • Run 3 lap (1200m) at 5k pace, run 1 recovery lap
  • Run 2 lap (800m) at 5k pace, run 1 recovery lap
  • Run 1 lap (400m) at 5k pace, run 1 recovery lap

Total mileage 5.75 miles + warm ups and any extra.

Great to Dungaree at his first Laces Out.  Well done to all

Loops Around Old Kingsley Pond

Five was the number that hit the road (briefly) with the weekly Laces Out run.  We ran to through the old Kingsley business complex, stopping briefly for a few standard-fare warm-up exercises:

  • 10x SSH
  • 10x Windmills
  • 10x Cherry Pickers

The route from there was to loop the pond as many reps as time would allow.  MacGyver and Corruption decided to go rogue and alternate pond loops with larger “Kingsley Loop” loops.  Mileage ranged from 5-7 miles amongst the group.

Strong work by all men!
