Nothing but light poles

Back to Back Q’s are always my favorite. Especially when I had 8 hours to prepare. Kielbasa took the day off so I jumped on the chance to Q on what I still consider to be home turf. Vernon walked up confidently with what I came to find out was an FNG. I instantly Omaha’d from my original set LOL. Didn’t want to scare him off day one.

I gave the disclaimer (just showing off for the new guy) and off we went. Short mosey around the parking lot then on to the proverbial stretches. Moroccan night clubs, imperial walkers, and merkins. To end the merkins Airborne held 6″…..

Grab the bells and ran down to the mild of 9 light poles lining the entrance road to the school. Starting from the entrance going all 9 light poles toward the school the exercises were as follows.

10 Gunslingers, 20 flutters , 30 tri-extensions, 40 goblet squats, 40 American Hammers, 40 LBC, 30 Curls, 20 KB Swings, 10 plank flys

We started in the middle at the Hammers. We did those then went to the next pole to get the LBC’s. Then we went back 2 poles and hit the Hammers again and then squats. Next it was back toward the school for Hammers, LBC’s, then Curls. You may be catching on by now…..Next was back accross them all toward the entrance for LBC’s, Hammers, Squats, and Tri-extensions.

This went on and on until we reached the flutters on the entrance side and the flys on the school side. We almost made all of the poles but after what amounted to 1.5 miles of running with the bell and something to the order of 300 Hammers with the bell we were all toast. COT time

Prayers for our country, Texas folks affected by the storm, and our group.

I am not the preachy type. I’m more the “is that a Greek God” in human form type. But, with a new comer in the crowd I felt compelled to speak today. Somewhere around light pole 14 we paused for me to drop the truth. What started as a normal F3 speech quickly transformed and I found I was speaking to myself. I started to describe our group as follows.

We are just normal guys. What gets most of us is the freeness of the event. Most guys do anything thats free LOL. That’s at least what it starts as…..we are a band of brothers for a greater cause. When you wake up always know we are there in the gloom waiting on you. When someone Q’s understand they want you to not only be physically stronger, but mentally and spiritually as well. This group has brought me to heights I never thought achievable. Hell, I ran a fricking half marathon and the P200 at 250 pounds. Yea the physical conditioning helped, but the most valuable asset of all is every single member of this group. When I ran those events I thought of all my brothers running ahead of me, with me, and encouraging me from behind.

If you come here to work out then basically you’ve missed everything. You can do that on your own time for free at your community gym. Get plugged in, hit the 3rd Fs, volunteer, go to convergences, get in Whetstone. Basically in Birdcage language…sh*t or get off the pot.

Well now that its out I can get preachy I expect a flood of messages about me speaking at events. I offer an F3 discount, just be sure to mention the special promo code CSPANISOLD

Thanks Sauerkraut – even though you weren’t there

Welcome FNG Neo- Vernon must not like you to bring you to one of my Q’s

Respectfully, Birdcage

The Hive 2017.32

Quick and dirty backblast:

Warmup: SSHs, IWs, Merkins

The Thang:
Mosey to the drag strip patio for decent concrete and good lighting (it’s also better for acoustics  😛 )

2223 – inspired by the CrossFit games this is 4 intervals, three 2 minute intervals with 1 minute rest and a 3 minute interval to end it.  So each interval is 20 Jump Squats, 60 Freddy Mercuries (single count), AMRAP KB Snatches (alternate arms)

This is a real burner.  Its only 12 minutes but I definitely had to rest and then mosey and then rest some more.

Next was 3 rounds of 4 count Russian Twists x20 and B2W Shoulder Taps x10

Finished it with some abs and 10 KB burpees.

G-Fit 2017.28

Today I was endowed with the immensely gratifying responsibility of Q at the Paradise AO.  It was a lot of fun, and having some experience coaching soccer, I found it to be near my comfort zone.  I brought a bag with soccer balls, basketballs, and footballs.  All of which were put to good use.

Warmup:  SSH, Merkins, Windmills, Freddy Mercuries

Mosey down Berry St and back to the courts.

Next we split into two groups for a little relay race competition.  One team has a basketball and the other a football.  Run the width of the court then pass it back to a teammate to run.  Finish when all PAX are across the court.  I think we did this 6 times (each team got 3 times with each type of ball) because no one likes second place and there was always demand for a rematch.

Another set of exercise: 30sec hop on each foot, plank shoulder taps, cherry pickers, oblique crunches

Split to two groups for practicing layups and rebounding.

Lastly, we split into 4 teams for some 3 on 3 half court.  I got paired with Speedy and Roundhouse who both impressed me.  Speedy can launch a ball from well beyond the arc and Roundhouse was very strategic in finding lanes.

It was a blast and seemed pretty apparent everyone has a good time at this AO.  A couple kids even asked to make sure I was coming back which warms my heart like a matchstick.  There’s something here that may not blossom or bear fruit immediately, but with enough diligent investment, I’m sure it will have an exponential return on investment.  T-claps to Deacon and Chicken Hawk for the hard work and guys like Figaro and Optimus for spreading the word to an audience that may not get bombarded by EHs.  Hopefully I have done this service justice.

Jekyll’s Ladder

20 Men descended upon the Colosseum for some pain yesterday. YHC was proud to have such a large group considering all of the great AOs and great Qs we had in the Fort. The Colosseum has become one of the toughest workouts in our region and the  Weinke did not disappoint.

Last year, Jekyll introduced the Pax to the light posts located behind GHES. Interestingly enough there is a great hill attached to those light posts. With a little bit of work by YHC, Jekyll graciously shared his Weinke from last year and it was up to me to execute.

The Thang

Mosey to parking lot avoiding a HUGE spider web along the way

COP

SSH x 30 (that should be the minimum for a COP)

IW x 15

Windmills x 10

CDD x 15

Plank

Mtn Climbers x 20

Plank

Moroccan Night Clubs

Mosey to the light posts

10 light posts to the top. Stop at each one and do the following:

10 Merkins – Round 1

10 Squats – Round 2

10 Bombjacks – Round 3

10 LBCs – Round 4

Time cut us short so we moseyed back doing LBCs along the way and finished at 6:03

Covered 3.9 miles and 100 of each exercises….Whew we were tired!
